  • "My husband and I really love Opus 9, but this last weekend I took my daughters and was sadly disappointed because the food tasted so different. The usual fries with the hamburgers were totally different and honestly not very good at all. My raspberry vinaigrette chicken salad also tasted different/not nearly as good as usual. Hope they fix this as Opus 9 is my favorite place."

  • "I am always skeptical ordering steak at a restaurant, if it is not better than what I can do at home why bother. Opus 9 had an excellent steak it was definitely one of the best I had at any restaurant. I was in the mood for a surf and turf and we ordered the fillet topped with crab meat. Fillet steaks are a likely tricky to cook, I went with the large 12 oz and it was cooked to perfection, Medium Rare. I will look forward to returning! We had a great table and service was superb."

  • "As usual, my huband and I chose Opus 9 for our Anniversary dinner, always one of our favorites places. His swordfish special and my crabcakes were excellent. Yet, the dramatic rise in prices on the menu and the diminishing niceties that used to accompany a meal (dinner mints, no anniversary recognition, etc.) will no doubt make our visits less frequent. If you have an early dinner as we did, your conversations may have to compete with the noisy happy hour bar."

  • "The $40 ribeye, the least expensive steak on the menu, and the easiest, most forgiving steak for a restaurant to pull off, was unmarbled, tough and tasteless. Three people, the server, the maitre d'hotel, and a third server picking up the check, all asked how the steak was, all in an entirely perfunctory way, and had no response when I told them. I'd expect a $40 steak to be prime beef. If Opus 9's supplier purveyed this steak as prime, shame on all of them. To call it choice would have take a suspension of judgement. The sides were grim, too. À la care creamed spinach was soupy and mulched; potatoes au gratin lacked un gratin, and were tasteless escalloped potatoes. Overpriced, mediocre, pretentious restaurant."

  • "I was underwhelmed by their signature steak, The Oscar. It was overcooked and it wasn't seasoned well. The bernaise sauce made it more flavorful. But overall, it was not a great steak. I wouldn't order it again. Also, once we were finished eating and I had paid, the waiter didn't really return to ask us if we needed anything although we were finishing a bottle of wine. I was disappointed. The food wasn't worth the expense."

  • "We very much enjoyed our lunch at Opus 9. It was a pleasant opportunity to sit outdoors and have some well prepared food. You can get the best club sandwich here and the French Onion Soup is hearty and delicious. And with Martinis that are expertly made one could hardly want for much more. Though our server seemed to be having an off day. He never brought us our place setting or flatware. I had to retrieve some for us. We were also lacking on refills for our water glasses. When he returned with my credit card, there was no credit card slip. I chalk it all up to either an off day for him or lack of experience."

I liked the fact that we were in a side room which was quiet and contributed to the ambience of a great evening out. If you are looking for the best steak in Williamsburg, more like the entire Hampton Roads area, this is the place. I have eaten at steak houses in New York City and Chicago that were not as good as Opus 9. A true gem! We will definitely be back."

  • "I was looking for a nice restaurant to celebrate my boyfriends 30th birthday and found a winner with Opus9! From the moment we entered the restaurant the experience was wonderful. Our waiter was exceptional, he recommend a great wine to compliment our dish. The food from appetizer to entree was hands-down the best!!! The ambiance was relaxing with just the right touch of elegance. The music was set at a volume which made it great to enjoy and still enjoy a conversation across the table. At the end of our meal our waiter brought out a complimentary desert with a candle for my boyfriend. Overall it was an excellent night, we will return!!"

  • "I was there a week ago and had the same $30 steak & lobster special, but this time the server was different and not nearly as attentive as Stasil was last Monday. Onion soup was only Luke warm and the entree meal must have been sitting out a while as the steak and lobster were almost cool. Still tasted ok but I didn't want to mention it when asked. I find their wine by the glass list vacant of nice Italian and French choices. Prices ok but poor selection in my opinion. Generally this is a fine restaurant and I'll go back again."

Opus 9 is at the corner of an outdoor shopping center. The décor is modern, but a classic fell. The food was wonderful, and the wait staff attentive. The best part was having a 3 1/2 year old with us who was catered to as much as we were. The whole experience rivaled those I've had at Donovan's in San Diego. Well done!"

  • "My husband and I had a special 3 course deal. The dressing was light on the Cesar salad, the way I like it. The potato and onion soup of the day was nicely seasoned. Both of us ordered the New York strip steak, which came out sizzling on our extremely hot plates. They were nicely seasoned and cooked as ordered. The desserts, cheesecake and flourless chocolate cake, were made in house. Steve, our server, was very friendly and attentive."
