The menu is an infusion of cultural flavors. The steaks, seafood, duck, and lamb are a few of our guest's favorite items. Layers of flavors contribute to the dishes we serve. Ophelia's stands out for its remarkably flavorful, light, high-quality choices in its brunch. My two friends never take seconds, and both went to the buffet for seconds. Two of us had omelets that were delivered to our table piping hot by the omelet chef. All the food was fresh, well-prepared, and delicious. Ample parking in front and nearby. Ambience: I found the lighting inadequate especially considering the dark walls, floors, and furniture. Also it was quite noisy."

  • "We really enjoyed our Easter brunch last year, so we were quite disappointed this time. The main restaurant is very nice, but we were seated in a dark, tacky banquet room in the back. When we complained, we were told that all larger parties were seated there, which we noticed wasn't true. We had seven people and saw tables larger than that in the main area. We had the reservations for several weeks ahead of time, so it wasn't a matter of a last minute addition. The food was not bad but not amazing, and the server was very nice but appeared overworked. We were overcharged about $30 but didn't notice until later that night. "

  • "My husband and I went to Ophelia's to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. We had never been there before so thought we would have another "first" together. It turned out to be a great decision. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and food. We started with the Portobello Rangoon Rolls and Ophelia's Salad. Both were great. My husband ordered the Chateaubriand and I the Brick Chicken for our entrees. The food was delectable and we cleaned our plates. I had a side of brussel sprouts and they were delicious. For dessert, we shared a dark chocolate mousse. It was a great finish to our wonderful meal. We look forward to returning to try more of their specialties. "

  • "Ophelia's is consistently good. We bring out of town guests, have nice romantic evenings, and experience a fine dining experience close to home. This was no different. Food was delicious, drinks were well crafted, but service was slow. Our guest had nothing but great things to say about the restaurant, so impress the guest mission accomplished, but it did take a longer time to dine due to slow service in between appetizer and dinner entrees. We enjoyed the chicken & chorizo dip, the chicken special, & the chateaubriand. Again, the food is good and well worth the price & overall experience, but the only issue was slow service. Friendly service, but slow."

  • "Our server was pleasant and knowledgable, but it took quite a long time for our food to arrive and my group of four were the only ones dining at the time. Refills of drinks was poor. The food was good when it finally did arrive, but because this was weekday lunch we were all later than we wished to be in returning to our work. Perhaps, they only cater to diners for whom time is no object."

Made our reservation a month ahead of time for Valentines day, got there on time and were sat at the tiniest little table with no elbow room at all that our food and drinks barely fit on. They were busy just as everywhere is on Valentines but we walked past not only a booth but two other tables that they could have sat us at. Our waiter was top notch though. He was very polite and quick with everything. The food was good but I think that it could have been better. Both my husband and my had ordered steaks and they were both a little over cooked. Our appetizer was very good. I would however go here again to give it another chance."

  • "Our meal at Ophelia's Friday night was without a doubt the best dining experience we've had in the past year in Kansas City. Our waiter Molly was outstanding and very knowledgeable about the entire menu and specials. Every dish was exceptional, from the Portobello won ton appetizer through an outstanding soup to an well prepared duck confit. The brioche bread pudding was equally outstanding. We'll definitely be going back again soon."

  • "We dined here on a Sat night. It's fairly close to us & we like the ambiance (live piano player). Our salads were fine-i like the Ophelia's salad dressing. Seafood special wasn't described correctly by our server. It was "corrected" to what my companion thought he was ordering but that didn't dispel the awkwardness. My pork chop entree was fine. The desserts were ok, but i had to remind our server i wanted decaf coffee as she was pouring my cup. Wine list has some interesting glasses/bottles and is reasonably priced. Our server was very pleasant, but there were some missteps with us and we overheard missteps at other tables. The food was ok, but not up to performance in the past. Apart from the piano player, we didn't enjoy it that much."

  • "Better known as the Chilean Sea Bass in the US, was prepared perfectly at Ophelia's. Wife and I celebrated New Years Eve here and were very pleased with overall experience. Fine Food restaurant in heart of historical Independence, MO. We sat at front table looking out over court house decorated with Christmas lights. Wife ordered the peppersteak and she enjoyed it. My Chilean Sea Bass was the highlight of my experience. Pan seared to perfection and the side dishes of spinach and corn bread side was excellent. Portion size was better than I expected from such a fine food establishment. The presentation with the sauce was excellent as they avoided putting any on the sea bass. We had great experience."

  • "My wife and I went to Ophelia's for our wedding anniversary. When we got married in 2002, we had dinner at Ophelia's after the wedding. This time the group was smaller, but it was still a wonderful occasion. The menu is ever-changing, and they have finally hit their groove. I had the peppercorn-encrusted strip steak, and on my request, the chef very kindly prepared an au poivre sauce. We also had the pork belly appetizer, which sounds kind of gross, but was absolutely wonderful. Give it a different name, and you could make it an entree. (For the uninitiated, it is very thick slab of bacon, marinated in something really good. You have to try it to appreciate it.) Great evening."

No-one walked by without making sure we were all having an excellent experience. GM came by and we had a great conversation about local nature of the food served there. Save room for dessert!"
