I am a repeat customer for many years and recommend Open Range highly. The owners' attention to detail is remarkable: the service is attentive and friendly but discreet, the food is outstanding every time, the wine list is interesting and reasonably priced, and the artwork on the wall is carefully-chosen and helps set the understated but very Western Canadian atmosphere.

My first time at Open Range, and I was very impressed! The herbed sourdough "cheesy bread" appetizer was outstanding. The duck breast was juicy and not at all tough, and my husband's elk flank was delicious. The service was attentive but not overbearing. Loved the ambience - we sat underneath a cool pair of deer heads.

This was my first experience at Open Range and I will definitely will be back. I was there on a date and she was very impressed with everything. Our meals were outstanding .. she had the bison steak while I had a boar rib. The atmosphere is very causal and not pretentious which is great .. very much a Calgary dining gem.

Great, laid-back atmoshpere. Our group had the charcuterie board, lamb, arctic char, bison and the mighty porterhouse along with jalepeno mac & cheese and scalloped potatoes. All the food was superior quality cooked to perfection. Possibly best steak in Calgary.

I booked here for our sons birthday. The menu was quite extensive with a great variety of dishes. Everything on menu sounded so delicious it was hard to choose. Everyone enjoyed their meals and service was very attentive. Our only complaint was there was too long of wait between appetizer & entree which kinda killed our appetites. Great selection of meat dishes and definitely not a place to dine for vegetarians. Love the ambiance too with the ranch, cowboy theme. Would definitely return especially w out of town guest.

We had parents anniversary, service was great, meal was prepared very well, good presentation, good portions. Appetiser Soup and wild meat platter; soup was very good lots of flavour, Meat platter was enough to share for five. Wine selection we brought our own $100.00 bottle corkage is $20.00, so we did not check the selection out it appeared that there was enough to satisfy every ones taste. Desert was very good no complaints all were impressed at the table. Definitely recommend

This was the second time my husband and I dined at Open Range but a first for our friends. The atmosphere was very relaxing, ee were not rushed and didn't wait an unreasonable smount of time for our delicious food. I tried the Elk Dianne this time. The presentation was delightful and the taste was out of this world. Our waiter was polite, friendly and knowledgeable. We have several overseas visitors and this is one restaurant on my list of places to take future visitors. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. Thanks

We had never been to this restaurant so we were a bit apprehensive going in. Conclusion: we will be back. We loved the atmosphere and enjoyed our table by the fireplace. The staff was professional and attentive to our needs. My wife has some dietary restrictions and this restaurant not only had more menu choices but were able to make some accommodations (eg. they brought out special non-wheat wafers for her for our chesse board appetizer). The only slight comment is that my wife's meat was cooked a bit too much but I think that is a matter of communication between staff and kitchen (steak was to have a bit of pink and came back no pink, but still tasted great). We would definitely recommend this place to friends and we'll be back.

My wife and I returned for another Friday date night. I enjoyed the wild boar rack while my wife chose the sturgeon steak. Appetizers were very good as well. Although they have an extensive wine list of premium priced wines, there is also an excellent French Merlot for $32 per bottle. Love this restaurant.

The atmosphere is rustic, cozy, comfortable and warm. The service is always just right. Every time we go we have the special which means we've never had the same thing twice, and we are always blown away! The wine list is sufficient enough to make sure you always have the right pairing, and there are plenty of great bottles for sipping as well. My fiancee raves about the ceasers. We never leave this place Hungry or Unsatisfied. Very well done Open Range.

Definitely worth your money. The portions are huge. I ordered the porterhouse special. It was very tasty. However, the steak was not cooked to my satisfaction. I ordered medium rare and the final product is more like rare, so I had to ask them to take it back to the kitchen to cook it a little more. They didn't hesitate and by the end of the night, we were so stuffed and didn't even bother looking at the dessert menu.

My wife and I decided to dine at Open Range for our 2nd year anniversary. Since Open Range is in our neighbourhood, we decided to go to a restaurant that was convenient and had a good experience with. This is our second time at Open Range and it never disappoints, the food and service were amazing. For appetizers we ordered the Mussels, for entrees I ordered the Bone-in Rib Chop and my wife ordered the Wild Boar Rack, for desert we had the Goat Cheese Cake, everything was delicious. Thumbs up all the way!

As a lamb lover, tried the lamb shank. As there was no mention of potatoes or veg on the menu, I asked our sever Greg, who explained all main courses come with both, except the lamb that comes w grits & a biscuit. When I asked if I could substitute roast potatoes for the grits, he said yes. When the meal came, it was so dark in the restaurant and the lamb was so good that it took me a while to discover I had no veg - it had not been clear that the lamb's grits & biscuit replaced not just the usual potatoes but the veg too. Greg quickly supplied a side of veg at no charge that made up for the miscommunication. The feature dessert, a chocolate brownie w ice cream & chocolate sauce, was excellent. Overall, a very good experience.

I have been coming to open range for around 5 years and have never been disappointed. It is an excellent local restaurant that showcases food offerings from the area, and is a great place to bring out of town guests who are new to Calgary. The menu rotates and always has some great selections; at my most recent dinner I had the lamb, but I've had excellent beef, elk, bison and arctic char in the past as well. Service is excellent, with waiters that are knowledgeable and attentive but without being invasive or pushy. The server at my most recent meal was sure to highlight the chef's recommendation on how to cook my lamb as well as make an excellent wine recommendation to go with it. The ambience is quite pleasant and relaxing.

I have been to OR before and it was great. This time I did not enjoy my meal at all. I had the boar and the whole meal in general was not good - the meat was so small and fatty, the potatoes were very dry, I know they werent reheated veg but they tasted like it. And then the pork fat on the plate was disturbing. I will be back to try something else however was disappointed with my meal this time.

Food came all at once despite request via server to have Chef stagger and serve as s/he saw best. So, 10 appetizers came all at once to Table for 2 and request made to at least keep food warm under heat light or use another one of the empty tables nearby. Server looks very upset, inconvienced and blamed us for ordering all at once. Foie gras pate was actually chicken liver pate. Food quality was mediocre; no creativity. At least server took off foie gras dish after noted. But great front door service by gentleman!

I reserved this restaurant because I thought it looked like a special place to take my wife for our 16th wedding anniversary. We were seated right away, but waited about 15 minutes to get our drink order in. The server apologized, and said that they seated late reservations. The bread basket came just before our meal. Our meal came to the table and we were finished our plates before our server even asked how our meal was. We noted a few tables around us that were getting great service by the same server. They were having birthdays. The food was amazing, if not for that, I am not sure if we would go back again. It is a pricey restaurant for sub standard service.

I tried to book this restaurant for a work related gathering earlier in the week but they were already full. Took my wife for our anniversary dinner on Saturday. What a great choice. Casual cozy dining area with fire place. The staff are very friendly and the service was fast. My wife had the duck and I had the wild boar rack. Both were prepared to perfection. Wine list is extensive and we enjoyed a French Merlot for $32.Finished off the meal with desserts that were excellent. Homemade ice cream on mine. The art work on display is tasteful and has a definite western theme. Most pieces are available for sale. If I have one negative comment, there is no need for the TV in the dining room.

We have been to Open Range several times over the last few years. Each time, it has been a great meal out. It's not a fast food joint, so don't expect to be in and out in a half hour. Each time we go, the food is amazing. The tenderloin is melt-in-your-mouth delightfulness. The staff there take pride in their work and have added that personal touch each time I've been. I also appreciate that they take allergies seriously. Portions are filling and the food manages to be high quality and well presented without losing a home-cooked meal feel. The only reason I would hesitate to recommend it is purely selfish, in that the more people who experience this place, the harder it may become to get reservations ;)

Lots of local product including quality beef, chicken and pork, but also elk, bison and wild boar. The wild boar is spectacular. They just happened to run out of the elk special or I would have tried that. Menu goes from the common to very unique high quality game with really good preparation and taste. Found this through Open Table, and what a find! No chain restaurant here.

We never felt rushed and were able to enjoy a relaxing meal. The only slight problem is parking. With only about a fozen spots behind to cover 2 restaurants you may have to look at street parking but be careful as some is by permit only. Love this restaurant.
