Open KitchenGood as alwaysThe chilled asparagus soup with crab (not on the menu) was particularly delicious!6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food near West Falls MetroWe had not been to Open Table for a while and were pleased to find that it is still a great restaurant. We ate outside on the patio. The view is of the McDonalds parking lot, but the excellent food more than makes up for the location. I had mussels, rockfish, and a chocolate torte as part of their pri fix menu. We ordered the Willamsburg John Adler Chardonnay. I was one of the nicest meals I had for awhile. Definitely coming back soon.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently high qualityThis is not the place to go for a cheap, quick meal. But this is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant where you can get a great meal while watching the chef prepare it especially for you with local ingredients. We have been several times and have enjoyed great seafood, steak, and chicken (try the Crispy Chicken on the current menu) with good wine and outstanding service. If veggies are your thing, they always have some new takes on old favorites. Be prepared to spend a little $$. Dinner for two was $80 (sharing an appetizer and dessert, no wine) but the three course prix fixe menu (which we haven't yet tried) looks like a good value. They also have special events and private cooking classes.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways delicious!Menu changes seasonally. Service is always great. We are always offered a taste of a wine or two that we are considering before we order a bottle. The pork ragu pappardelle and empanadas were highlights - then the limoncello glazed cornmeal cake arrived! Delicious!6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food & fun wine club!Reading reviews about Open Kitchen I was expecting a just "ok" experience but was really charmed by the place. It's an oasis of quiet and charm at a busy crossroads near Broad and Rt. 66. My first experience was a bus-stop Mom's wine tasting in early April at a Monday night wine club featuring the wines of Chateau St. Michelle followed by the spring menu dinner in the bistro. Everything was absolutely wonderful. The tasting was fun and conducted on the enclosed patio -- other wine club members were gathered at tables and seemed quite open to even singles walking in. We enjoyed the tasting -- CStM wines / Wash state are always refreshing. Our bistro dinner was wonderful -- dinner and desserts amazing! We've been back since! Say NO MORE!6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a regular for us whenThis is a regular for us when we want an elegant but reasonably priced Friday night out for dinner. We come by ourselves and often with friends.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food with a kitchen viewWe were quite impressed with the unique blends of common food assembled with precision and mastery. It was evident that this restaurant takes their food serious. The view.., large screen tv of the chefs wasn't that appealing to us,but to each his own.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother fine dinner. SittingAnother fine dinner. Sitting at the chef's counter really adds to the overall experience, but we think it really works best for a party of two. Many new and excellent dishes on the menu. We had corn soup and beet salad, arctic char and meatloaf (yes, very good). Drank a 2012 Valpolicella that went very well with both mains.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMYummy sustainable foodWe really enjoyed our meal here. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu, wine, and what paired well together. Everything we ate (mussels, hanger steak, beet salad, and a pork shoulder special) was delicious, except the cornbread, which was just ok. The desserts were amazing!
As others have noted, it is in a strip mall, but it's away from the noise of the street, and you'd never guess the location from the inside, which is lovely. The outdoor patio seemed like it might be nice on a cooler evening, too.
If you're looking for a good meal in the area, and want to feel good about your environmental footprint, this is the place to go. Enjoy!5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMHighly recommended. I'll beHighly recommended. I'll be back. Dinner was very good. .I especially liked the wealth of healthy food choices and it all tasted fantastic. It's prepared very well. Pricing was very reasonable for this level of quality ingredients and preparation. Owner and staff are very attentive.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWe've been here several times,We've been here several times, and it's always delicious. The staff is friendly and helpful, and it's great to be able to watch the chef in action.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMA great dining experienceOpen Kitchen is a terrific overall dining experience. While the food is very good, it is enhanced by being able to watch the preparation. The menu changes on a regular basis, and usually has very interesting choices and specials. A fun place to go, particularly for those who are tired of some of the stuffy restaurants in this area.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMI'm happy it is surviving!I'm happy it is surviving! And thriving! Love sitting at the bar and watching the cooks. Wines list is fun. Imaginative dishes.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMMy new favorite restaurantLast week, a student of mine told me all about how great Open Kitchen is, and so I decided to try it when a friend was visiting from Alaska. I must say it was the most delightful dining experience I've ever had. The waiter was so friendly and informative, and spent time talking with us. The ambience was warm, cozy, and beautiful. The food, last but not least, was wonderful! I declared to my friend "this is my new favorite restaurant!".4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had dinner at Open KitchenWe had dinner at Open Kitchen as part of a fundraiser for Food for Friends. The food is great and the service is even better. We sat on the covered deck and enjoyed watching the full moon rise during our meal. It was perfect!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious!Thank you for a lovely dinner. My husband and I greatly enjoyed our meal and the service was very good! I think our waiter was named Carlos and he did an excellent job serving and making recommendations! We had a wonderful first date after being at home for the past 6 months with our new baby. Thanks for making it such a wonderful evening! We look forward to coming back!!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother great meal - the foodAnother great meal - the food is outstanding and service is great - at least early on a Saturday night. Not sure how it is later in the evening. Highly recommended.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were on vacation in theWe were on vacation in the D C area. This ws a two gem. Food was innovative, fresh, and tasty. W ish we lived here we would frequent your business. Thanks for. Great dining experience.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was exceptional! TheFood was exceptional! The dining room does get fairly noisy so it's not a conversational dinner spot - but very, very good!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMOn our third visit to OpenOn our third visit to Open Kitchen we ordered Chicken Pot Pie with Buttermilk Biscuits, and it was unlike any other chicken pot pie we'd ever had. It was in a dark brown sauce and contained small bits of carrots, asparagus & both white and dark meat chicken. The biscuits were tasty with herbs. Although a bit too spicy for us, we enjoyed it and would probably order it again. Next time, we will order soup or some side dish because portions are small. Our primary complaint about OK is the extremely limited menu. It is very clean and the staff & service are outstanding.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMMy new favorite neighborhoodMy new favorite neighborhood restaurant. Great food and service. Nice atmosphere; don't care that its ina strip mall. There is plenty of parking. The kitchen is on camera so everyone can watch and they serve seasonal, locally grown food. The timing of courses was really my favorite part. We didn't feel rushed and stayed for about two hours. Great for a date night.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAlthough I fell in love withAlthough I fell in love with OK when it first opened, I'd stayed away for the last year or so b/c the menu and service had declined. Went back on a whim with friends this weekend and was thrilled that the old OK is back. Love the cheese and charcuterie options and the empanadas were great. My friends liked their risotto and chicken pot pie. Wine is excellent and unusually transparent (they list both the table price and the "market price"). I wholeheartedly recommend it as the best restaurant in the city of Falls Church.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMA HIDDEN GEMI read the reviews before placing our reservation-they all sounded unbelievable. How could all the reviews be THAT good!
Its all true, its a hidden GEM. We will definitely be coming back. Friendly service and delicious food from start to finish (including our wine).3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMSietsema -- you're missing this!Open Kitchen remains our #1 dining spot. In fact, we can't understand why Tom Sietsema (Washington Post's foodie) hasn't bothered to come see just what they can do since they opened. (Actually, we're kind of glad he hasn't because we don't want them to become so popular we can't get squeezed in on those nights we don't make reservations.) The spring menu rocks -- carried over strengths from earlier seasons and added some new items. The Farmhouse Meatloaf has an updated recipe and is not your mother's meatloaf! Applewood bacon balanced well against the BBQ sauce in an entirely unexpected way. Artic Char was perfectly done and complemented by the salsa. Wish I could cook as well. But since I can't, we're glad Open Kitchen is close by.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMOpen Kitchen - great findAlthough the location is unassuming in strip mall, it is a great neighborhood find with great selection of wines and a changing menu each season.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome. Not the first timeAwesome. Not the first time we've dined at Open Kitchen but they never fail to impress with their evolving menus, great wines, and terrific service. Our favorite place to bring out of town friends. Consistently good!3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst visit after being recommendedFirst visit after being recommended - VERY impressed. The food was very impressive - everything was seasoned just right, with a lot of care taken in the preparation. Some high end places overdo each dish, and they are too rich, etc - that wasn't an issue here. We went on a Saturday night early (6pm) and didn't have any issues with service - the waiters were very knowledgable, didn't hover, but were very attentive. Will definitely return.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was awesome! EveryoneFood was awesome! Everyone was friendly. Will be back.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThe online reservation optionThe online reservation option was helpful and easy; the host was welcoming and efficient; waiter was kind and knowledgeable about the menu; the food was wonderful; the portions were just right; the wine was delicious and in the right glass; we very much enjoyed watching the dynamic of the kitchen and the monitor showing the food preparation. It was a lovely experience and we will come back again as well as recommend it to others.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Food!We have eaten at Open Kitchen numerous times and have always had an excellent meal. The wait staff is professional and attentive without hovering and always have excellent suggestions on wine.
This is a nice place to have good food in a casual atmosphere.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMCame for my hiusbands birthday.Came for my hiusbands birthday. Great dining experience!
