Diner Reviews
  • "This is our 3rd time to eat at Opal, we had a great meal. We live right in the Seaside Farms neighborhood so it is great to have such a fine restaurant close-by with free parking. We were dining for the first time with new friends and it was a perfect, intimate setting for that. I had the salmon, everyone else had the triggerfish special - all were wonderful. We'll be back."

  • "Experienced a pleasant family dinner with our party of six to celebrate my daughters 30th birthday. We all found the appetizers and entrees to be outstanding. But, at the end of the evening I was surprised to see a $25 corkage on the check. After finishing the first purchased bottle of wine, I did open one of our favorites which was brought in. But, it wasn't opened by the staff, no glasses were offered as a refresh and the staff made no effort to serve it. Thus, I was a bit bewildered when they refused to omit the fee since surely, it wasn't earned. Had I known that I would be charged, I would have simply bought another bottle of our original, but not preferred selection. Put a damper on what would have been a great dining experience!"

  • "My wife's meal was over salted and could not be finished. We alerted the server .Not a repeat for us."

  • "I'd heard good things about Opal from friends and neighbors as we live in Mount Pleasant. Many of our "go to" places were unavailable during Friday night of the Cooper River Bridge Run and we were able to get a table at a decent time here at Opal. We ended up having a delightful meal. We feasted on a shared Charcuterie board of delicious meats and cheeses. Our party enjoyed salads, salmon, swordfish, pasta, and pork chops for our entrees. Everything was expertly prepared and well presented by the chefs and wait staff. The pasta dishes were particularly standout. In a world of pasta and red sauce, these dishes were super creative and just great! We'll go back...its a whopping 3 miles from our house but I'd drive much farther!!!"

  • "This was our third time at Opal and it did not fail. The food is always delicious. The ambience is quietly sophisticated. The wait staff is knowledgable and patient. We have given it rave reviews and so have all of the friends we have brought with us."

  • "We had friends in from out of town, Opal is one of our favorite local restaurants and we love to show it off."

  • "So the 4 of us were finishing a wine tasting when the ladies realized we have not eaten. So the painful process of where to eat was discussed and we all decided between 2 restaurants that we had not yet been to so after a quick game if paper rock, scissors we chose Opal. We are very happy with the choice and will put this on the rotation of our approved restaurants."

  • "I ate at Opal for the first time last weekend! The food was amazing and the staff was very attentive and friendly. I will definitely be returning!"

  • "We were seated immediately and given water. Then it took our waitress over twenty minutes to come to the table and that was only after we had to ask someone to send her over. She started right in on the specials before asking if we wanted something to,drink. The first course came at the same time as the bread. We had been there at least 30 minutes by now. The second course came as the first was being cleared. We were asked several times if "we were all enjoying " our meal like children who have never been in a restaurant before. The food was, as always, wonderful. Fortunately we have been to,Opal several, times and will continue to go back. Had this been our first visit, who knows?"

  • "We came to the restaurant since it was highly recommended in Auto Club Guide. Well it exceeded our expectations on all counts. The food was great, the service excellent and as a trained cook, I can see that the presentation was spot on and matched the menu and oral presentation. Would highly recommend this to anyone. We had the Crispy Chicken my partner had Maple Glazed Wild Salmon done perfectly as ordered. The dessert menu was presented well, the descriptions were on target and quality excellent. This restaurant and the chef who created the menu is top shelf and would go back again and again and make it our favorite place when in Charleston area."

  • "We dined at Langsdon before and we decided to try Opal. The food in general is about the same as the other one; the menus are similar. The fish dish we ordered is very good. The pasta dish with shrimp is not bad but the portion is very small. There was only a few cut-up shrimps and small portion of pasta which was suppose to be tthe larger portion. For the price they charged they could put a few more whole shrimps and little more pasta. If you a regular guy, you need to order two portions."

  • "I took my wife to Opal for her Birthday and had one of the best dinners we have had in years. We had four courses and every course was outstanding as well as the service. The food at Opal was better than any of the over hyped restaurants we have been to in downtown Charleston. I highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "This is a great restaurant. Everything was wonderful. We ended up closing it down. It dies get a little loud, so I would not recommend it to someone going on a first date if you are interested in getting to know each other better."

  • "We have eaten at Opal many times over the years. It is usually excellent service and food, but sometimes not so much. This visit was an inattentive waitperson, very slow kitchen, and food not up to par in idea or execution. Tomato salad was okay, but seafood bisque was basically flavored heavy cream. Duck pasta was as expected, but the salmon dish with a large blop of the simplest of salad beside it lacked a lot. We will go again and hope this was just a bad night for them."

  • "Best part of this dinner was my charcuterie platter. Wish I had taken picture of it! But the pasta bolognese was good, too. The three of us had it!"

  • "On our last night visiting Mt Pleasant, we were searching online for a restaurant, and Opal had great reviews and was less than a mile away. Our waiter made an excellent suggestion from the wine list that wasn't too pricy. We started with a creamy tarragon salad for which the waiter was able to get me the list of ingredients. The tilefish was incredibly good, as was their signature chicken entree. We wil definitely come back to OPAL on our net visit."

  • "When I first went on Open Table it said there were no reservations available from 6:30 thru 8:00. When we got to the restaurant there were plenty of open tables during that time frame. I almost went to a different restaurant to make a reservation. Why did Open Table show no reservations available?"

  • "Friday evening was filled , so we could get only reservation from 8 pm. Seating at 4 place table in middle of restaurant (very noisy). We much more prefer Langdon 's ...for our age group. Prices for Food and Wine somewhat on the high side."

  • "The wife and I went the day after Valentines day and it was a great experience. Made a reservation which I suggest and was quickly seated. Everything was timely about the service. Gave you a good amount of time to talk and the food was right on time after drinks and appetizers. The only thing I'm not a fan of is were sat in the area against the wall which has a bench seat for all in that section and the close proximity to other couples takes away( a little) from the privacy/intimacy. Still that's a personal thing. All in All we're going again and you should too."

  • "Both of our daughters recommended Opal for the homemade pasta dishes and creative style. We were very pleased with our appetizer and entre choices. The lobster on fresh pasta special was exceptional. The service was excellent as well."

  • "We absolutely love opal. Our son moved to Mt. Pleasant 2 years ago from NY. We come there quite a bit to visit him. Opal is our favorite spot for dinner. The service is outstanding and the wait staff remembers us every time. I would recommend Opal to everyone."

  • "We started with the CHARCUTERIE & CHEESE which was out of this world, our next visit will be to enjoy that dish and a glass of wine and that will be more than enough. But, we continued on with our meal. I had the Center Cut Filet of Beef with Mascarpone-Chive Potatoes and Barolo Sauce which was delicious and cooked perfect. My husband had Seared Crispy Duck Breast with Barley, Fennel Sausage, Greens and Cherry-Malbec Gastrique which was out of this world. We ended with cappuccino, lemon crème brulee and a chocolate cake which again were outstanding. Personally, we would cut out dessert due to the fact we were extremely full. Beautiful and simple atmosphere but a wonderful find for us."

  • "Bbest oysters i have ever had, folly creek selects prepared right, liquor still in each shell and oyster cut from the shell for easy eating. Salmon dish was exactly what the menu promised, nice mix of flavors and preparation of the mixed greens was well thought out. Get here soon before the water warms up, oysters like this only come around every 10 or 12 years when the water gets this cold!!!"

  • "Everything is hand-made. From the salamis to the pastas, this place is excellent. The food is outstanding. The service is attentive without being overbearing. The cocktails are unique and complimentary to the menu. This is a wonderful find in the Charleston area."

  • "Our first visit to this restaurant produced a very pleasant Saturday evening. No surprise since it's from the same people who gave us Langdon's. Decor is very attractive, though we were a little chilly sitting right next to the glass exterior walls. Food was tasty. Wine list above average. Service friendly and well-paced. Overall a winner."

  • "Delicious food and great service. Classy yet casual atmosphere that is not the least bit pretentious. The shrimp bruschetta is easily my favorite meal, although it is intended as an appetizer, but I'm not sharing! Lucky to live so close."

  • "This was our first visit to Opal. We were all (4) happy with our appetizers and entrees. We did not have dessert. The service could have been slightly better in terms of closer attention to our needs. We plan to go back."

  • "Had dinner on a restaurant week night. The Bisque was delicious as was the dessert. The Pasta was very salty and the small portion of Lobster was very chewy and tough. As for my taste the combination of the two starches (squash and pasta) was too heavy. Others at my table agreed. The service was excellent."

  • "I have eaten at Opal for the last two Restaurant Weeks. This time I was a bit disappointed. The Restaurant Week Menu which was 3 for $40 (If I remember correctly it used to be 3 for $30) had 3 entrees to order from. Tile fish, or a pasta, plus a steak with a fancy name but not Filet; however there was a $5 supplemental charge if you ordered the steak. (Then that's not really 3 for $40 but 3 for $45). When looking at the menu, I decided not to take advantage of the "special menu" because instead of spending $45 for steak, I could order the filet ($34) and the soup ($8) for a total of $42. (still cheaper) The only difference was I didn't get dessert which was okay. My filet was overdone but the waiter disappeared so I ate it."
