A word from OPAH Restaurant & Bar @ Town Center Aliso Viejo
At Opah Restaurant & Bar, we serve the finest fresh fish in Orange County. Carefully hand selected each day to deliver the best quality available. Come in and enjoy the menu created by Marc A. Cohen, One of the Best Chef's in Orange County. The menu is exquisite, featuring edible works of art, that look so good the could be on a magazine cover. Dont forget to try one of our signature Award Winning Martinis, or have some wine outside near the fireplace on the patio. We offer live music for our patrons on certain nights as well to add to the dining experience. If you wondering how we came up with the name Opah. It comes from the Hawaiian word for Moonfish, which was once viewed as Good Luck by fisherman, & often given away as a gesture of Good Will.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "OPAH always good - but too noisy. Just the nature of the beast - the place is not designed with quite in mind: more toward the OC trend setter crowd. Not a slap - just a fact. Yea, I'll go back, but selectively."

  • "Always great food, perfect cocktails and our favorite waiter, James!!!"

  • "Always nice to sit out on the patio at Opah, you feel like your on a side street in the city, not a shopping center! Terrific service from our entire wait staff. We all ordered salads and they were awesome!"

  • "Special order? Not a problem at OPAH. Want to know what's in that sauce? Not a problem at OPAH. Want a great meal? Say YES to OPAH."

  • "Let's just start with the service... I have never had bad service at Opah! They always take care of their customers. Food is great. The chef always has an alternative option on a daily basis. Happy hour is fun... Try it...you will like it!"

  • "My husband and I have been going here since they opened-due to how wonderful their sister restaurant 230 Forest in Laguna is. We were very happy to have a Marc Cohen restaurant a bit closer to our neighborhood! Opah has been consistently a great place to dine. Perfect location in the middle of the Aliso Viejo Town Center. Great outdoor dining area-perfect for summer, especially during their popular "happy hour" (everyday 'til 6:30 pm). Service is always top notch, always. Our server Marco did a fine job of seeing that everything was perfect. Food is always great-I had their salmon and it was perfectly cooked. Hubby loves their fish & chips (and their Kamakazi's!). You can't go wrong dining at Opah (or, 230 Forest in Laguna)."

  • "Three out of the four dishes our table was served were not good. Shrimp and mussels were overcooked and dry. The sauce for the mussels was bland and had no flavor. The crab cakes were supposedly "lump" meat - tasted more like back fin and claw meat. Also, not good. For a seafood restaurant we expected better quality. It seems like the quality of the food is suffering and could use more attention while the bar crowd is keeping the restaurant going. We won't be back."

  • "My husband and I drove up from San Diego because we had visited the owner's other restaurants in Laguna. Opah did not disappoint! The food came out quick and fresh, the presentation was wonderful and the taste was great. I had the trout and my husband had a salmon burger, then we shared the bacon wrapped dates and had a bread pudding for dessert. We ate every bite, and our waiter was friendly and attentive without hovering. Will absolutely be going back!"

  • "Nice place surrounded by many other restaurants so don't miss this one. Food is quite good. Nice covered outdoor seating available and a pretty good bar with friendly bar tender."

  • "Sitting outdoors (indoors is too noisy) you have time to relax and catch up with friends. Appetizers (bacon wrapped dates and the chicken meatballs) are very good to share. Entree portions are large so easy to split. We had the trout which was very tasty. I like that the tables outside are not close together, so you get a more relaxed feel."

  • "Now you have to understand, I am a big fan of cioppino, the Italia-American fish stew. Opah does it right, with half a lobster, beautiful green lip mussels, fat shrimp, sweet scallops, pink salmon - all in rich tomato based broth. I've had it from Boston to San Francisco( it's birthplace), and this is up there with the best of them. It's $32, so definitely a splurge entrée, but it WAS my birthday. I started with their wedge salad, which was delectable - cold, crisp with creamy blue cheese dressing. My wife enjoyed her seafood salad, loaded with shrimp - she took half home. We started with the yummy bacon wrapped dates, a perfect accompaniment to icy cocktails."

  • "Celebrated a birthday with dear friends. We had a fun evening. Our waiter was attentive & personable. I had the scallops with the risotto and my friends had the opah and shrimp scampi. We loved every bite! The staff at Opah was very welcoming and helpful. Will come again, soon!"

  • "We opted to eat at the bar, and although our order seemed to be confused and delayed, the bartender was great, personable, and attentive. Enjoyed some great fish on a warm corn relish. Definitely worth a try, and probably a return."

  • "The food and service were excellent. The only reason for less tha five stars is that the seating/ambiance in the dining room is closer to a diner than an upscale restaurant. The opah fish dish was outstanding!"

  • "They have a large inviting bar area & a large al fresco area under cover w/heat lamps. Nice. Tried a few oysters (very good). Also liked the calamari & the lamb chop entree salad. Very nice wine list. The expresso hot fudge sundae was the perfect topper - - oh yeah! A little pricey, but plan to return."

  • "Went to Opah with a party of 6 on Valentine's Day. The service was slow at first, it was about 15 minutes before we got cocktails. The service did get faster and our servers were friendly and knowledgible. The food was completely unreal! Just delicious! I rate the tatse of the food there amongst my favorite restaurants around the world. Good luck finding oysters elsewhere. It was a little pricey, but qell worth it."

  • "We dined outdoor in a very comfortable and quiet Patio setting. The inside of the Restaurant is more noisy. The food was very good, well prepared and tasty (Chilean Sea Bass and Filet Mignon). Decent Wine selection and full Bar. Friendly and attentive server. And guys, you can sneak peaks at the large indoor flat screen TV's with sporting events on from most anywhere in the restaurant or on the Patio dining area."

  • "Most of the time I would just go for a few small plates. Great hang out place before or after movies or after work. Happy hour prices and great selection of appetizers and drinks. Interesting specials on food and drink. Last night appetizer special was squash and ricotta cheese deep fried. Quite good. My friend ordered bacon-wrapped dates. The special cocktail was ginger liqueur plus strawberry liqueur and proseco. Ok, nothing special. We both ordered 6oz filet with blue cheese and is asked to substitute my mashed potatoes with red wine mushroom. The onion rings were crispy and good, steak was tender, mushroom was heavenly. For the price, this restaurant is awesome. The calamari appetizer is a must if you go there for the first time."

  • "Event Team Lunch8 people: Food the Chicken Katsu that 2 team members order was very overcooked and they could not eat much of the chicken. Server started out good but then did not see needed to refill drinks and we got the desert menu late so ran out of time for that. thank you"

  • "This is my go-to restaurant for Also Viejo and the area around it, especially for a night out. Reservations are a MUST for weekend nights, and give yourself time to find parking. The area has only this one (admittedly large) strip of shopping & dining, so it's popular. Opah deserves it! I love the fresh grilled fish, and the cioppino is extraordinarily generous with shellfish."

  • "I made a reservation for 5 pm New Years Eve requesting a relatively quiet table or outside if there were heaters. (The inside is pretty loud.) Our table was perfectly situated outside under the heaters. As in our past visits the food was very good and the service prompt and helpful."

  • "We were excited to try the Aliso Viejo Opah's for New Years, and had not been to the restaurant for years. Food was mediocre, and overpriced. My husband ordered the halibut and did not realize it would be breaded and fried, and he was disappointed. The service was good, but was overall disappointed with the meal."

  • "Love it. Food arrives steaming hot (when appropriate) and every dish is a visual feast. Exceedingly good management. Manager is on the floor, working alongside the rest of his team. Very impressed. Music too loud for my taste. Chicken sandwich a tad over-cooked..."

  • "We had been to Opah once before and were looking forward to another lovely meal. We were seated at a tiny table for two so close to the diners at the next table that it was just plain awkward - no chance at all for a private conversation. Our waiter spouted off the specials so fast we couldn't follow him and then disappeared for 20 mins. We had to ask for water for our table, chase down someone for fresh drinks and then ask another staff member for a pen to sign the check. Service was poor and the seating was unreasonable given that we had made reservations well in advance. Lucky the food is good."

  • "The food was superb - the opah was perfectly grilled with an excellent mango salsa that thankfully had no spice to ruin the delicate fish flavor. The butternut squash risotto and haricot vert almondine were perfectly prepared and wonderful accompaniments to the fish. The chocolate croissant bread pudding with fresh berries was an excellent ending. A wonderful meal from beginning to end."

  • "Always good food and good service. Classy place for dinner!"
    Dined on 11/6/2013
  • "I will preface this by saying that I am somewhat sensative to salt but...the food was way too salty! All that I ate was a veggie burger - I didn't even eat the fries. I was up all night with a racing heart because of all of the salt that was in the burger. That is just way too much salt! Restaurants need to rely more on the flavors of food rather than just overly salting things to make them appetizing. My finace' had the fish and chips and a salad. He said both were marginal. Also, the tables indoors are very close to one another - we might as well have had a conversation with the table next to us as they were so close that we could hear every thing they were saying and visa versa."
