A word from Opa
Opa is a Modern Greek restaurant and bar located in Center City's Midtown Village neighborhood. The menu features a fresh take on traditional Greek flavors. Featured items from the mezedes (small plates) include herbed keftedes (meatballs) in a ouzo-tomato sauce, octopus and spinach croquettes served with a smokey feta dip. Large plates offer a variety of items such as striped bass and pastitsio. The signature cocktail list and Greek wine selection offer the perfect complement to your meal. Acclaimed designer, Jun Aizaki/Creme, created an alluring setting which includes a striking birch branch canopy.

Walk-in seating is available at the 24 seat bar and offers the full menu.

Diner Reviews
  • "This was a great find with excellent food and a great selection of beers on tap. However our portions were extremely small - more like a tapas bar. We had not been prepared for that. No wonder the prices were so reasonable. However the food is excellent and I still recommend this restaurant. I had the grilled octopus and my companion had the stuffed oregano pasta. The small portions would not be an issue for the feta-stuffed burger which looked normal size. We had dessert later - the amount of food was actually perfect for me, but not my 20 year old son."

  • "Looking for good, relatively inexpensive Greek food. The food and cocktails were both great, but the service was pretty poor. I got served about 20 minutes after everybody else at my table and there were long waits between courses. The server said they were short staffed that night, so maybe it'd be better on a different night."

  • "Excellent modern twist on authentic Greek food with a very good beer selection, Greek, American, and craft beers. Service was attentive and courteous."

  • "The food was good, if not great. The servings were ample and the waiter was very friendly and helpful. We would go back."

  • "Opa is a great place for a lively tasty dinner. The energy is high and after 10pm the DJ really gets things going. The drinks are also pretty great. Overall, I've been here twice and I will definitely go back again"

  • "Don't ever go on St Patty's Day. It was so crowded you could not move. It was overly noisy. It was overly rowdy. It was not fun. The food was good but had I known what was in store I never would have gone. Bad experience in what should have been much better."

  • "Experience was great I really enjoyed myself and so did my date."

  • "I had eaten some pasta made by the chef elsewhere and it was delicious. We decided to give the restaurant a try. The interior is attractive but the noise level was deafening. The spinach croquettes (?) were good. The rabbit stew tasty. The pastitsio was way too rich for my taste. I must admit that my family is Greek, so I'm comparing everything to what I'm used to. It was pleasant enough, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there."

  • "Great place to hang out with friends, eat delicious, unusual bar food, and enjoy great cocktails. The place is small but cozy and has a lively bar. Definitely a top pick for a casual girls' night out with friends."

  • "Parked, walked a couple blocks and found the restaurant held our table as we were a couple minutes late. The server recommended my cocktail, the house martini- yummy! Next we ordered veggie flat bread my daughter ordered the burger-fries were awesome with the added oregano. I ordered the salmon over kale wonderful! Dessert was beignets with honey, walnuts, banana sauce and chocolate sauce. We were not rushed... Will go again. Beautiful!"

  • "A very enjoyable restaurant not far from Kimmel Center. Great interpretation of modern Greek food. The loukoumathes dessert was to die for."

  • "Really enjoyed dinner here - I had the salmon, which was an excellent piece of fish paired nicely with kale and a reduction that softened the flavor. It wasn't a huge portion, but I wanted to try the mussels anyway, so I ordered them and wasn't disappointed. Two Opa martinis (white wine, vodka, lemon and orange blossom) nicely completed the meal!"

  • "I had several very good dishes here. We unfortunately picked St Patrick's weekend which was extremely loud. In fairness, the restaurant called ahead to warn us. There were some very good appetizers: the greek baked cheese is delicious and the appetizer with pita and vegetables and multiple dipping sauces was very good. The fried calamari was also good. The Lamb shank was their "specialty' and we thought it was good. It was not great. The vegetarian pasta dish was very good with a light lemony cream sauce with nuts and vegetables. I would definitely like to try this restaurant again. I think the food could benefit from a little more experimentation but several of the dishes were right at the border of great."

  • "Well we didn't think about the fact that it was St Patricks's day weekend; there was a noisy crowd around the bar which takes up most of the center of the restaurant; could not hear ourselves think, let alone carry on a conversation; a very disappointing experience even though the food and service were fine; We had been on a prior occasion and really enjoyed ourselves which is why we returned; Go if you can rely on being there on a non-party occasion or if you don't care either way; In our opinion the management should have taken steps to eliminate the crowd by dinner time"

  • "After the flower show on a cold Monday we went to OPA. Had the place to ourselves because of weather. So service was excellent, but then again it should have been. Nice wine list full of Greek wines, which are a bargain. Menu features a nice mix of reasonable size appetizers and main dishes. My wife had the mussels - fairly large portion for a starter - and the Veggie Flatbread. Both were excellent and sized perfectly for her. I had the Grilled Octopus to start and the Rabbit. Again, sized about right and excellent. This menu is a little more eclectic Greek than Estia's classic Greek, which was OK with us. Not up to Estia's standards as far as ambience and cuisine, but still very good and worth a try."

  • "We had a really nice lunch here after a morning at the Flower show. The food was outstanding and the service excellent. Of course it was a Sunday and there were only 5 customers in the place, but we prefer that to hustle and bustle. We had 2 drinks which were very good (a little too sweet for my wife, but she's not into sweet drinks). They also brought us complementary ouzo after dinner... very nice touch."

  • "1. Spinach croquettes 2. Tender, moist skewers 3. Beignets-- we came back the next day JUST to eat these again!"

  • "IPA is a very Greek fun restaurant. It is noisy so I would not recommend it for a romantic evening out, also not great for kids. It took awhile to get seated and the service was not in tune to our needs. The food was incredible though. If you are looking for delicious creative Greek food this is the place to go."

  • "Went here to try so called new Greek cuisine; I think the old cuisine is better. The waiter was super nice but the food was only OK and the wine list needs sprucing up. I went here before a concert so it served its purpose but I think there are better options for Greek food in Philly. I might try it again for a lunch, that might be better."

  • "We arrived early for our reservation and were seated immediately. We like to sit near the back and again there was no problem. Our waiter Zack was friendly, upbeat and was happy to be at work. Good waiters are hard to find and Zack was a great waiter. We ordered Saganaki and Brussels Sprouts to begin, Salmon and Braised Lamb Shank as entrees and had two drinks all for under $80.00. Food was cooked to perfection, restaurant was lively and the new staff a pleasure. We will be back. Thank you for a great experience."

  • "We went here for dinner. Food was delicious... the Lamb Shank was well done, the Rabbit stew was tasty... I'll recommened this place... service was friendly, but slow... it took about 30 min. to get the first appetizer..."

  • "Found this while at a convention in philadelphia and glad we did. It is a small place but we enjoyed the food. Appitizers we had winter squash soup and grilled octopus. The soup was very flavorful and the octopus was sliced as I had never had it and had a nice smokey grilled flavor. For the main course we had pasticio and lamb shank. the pasticio looked small but was tasty and filling and the lamb shank I would say was very tender, but I felt the sauce could have been slightly more flavorful, but I won't complain too much. Skipped the dessert to get gelato down the street."

  • "Apps good ( meatballs and beet salad)- both carefully prepared, sauced, and spiced. Tomato ragu in meatball app was great- meatballs themselves perfect combo of veal/pork, bread, and beef. Beet salad had generous slabs of goat cheese that was fresh and tasty. Problem was entrees- burger/fries served lukewarm and fries limp ( sent back); burger odd consistency of chewy meat. Three very tiny lamb chops came overcooked, a bit dry ( big mistake with a small piece of meat). Had to ask for pita bread to go with our apps. Selection of Greek wines dissapointing for a Greek restaurant."

  • "We went for dinner Saturday before seeing a play. I chose it off of Open Table recommendations and it proved how valuable the reviews can be to picking a great place. The food was excellent and beautifully served. Our server was attentive and explained the menu which was heavy on Greek words and wines. The service was excellent and we were on our way on time and happy! The check was reasonable for the food ordered. Not bad at all for a first experience. We will plan on going back!"

  • "Tucked down the Sansom alley is this great little Greek bar and restaurant. Inside it's cozy and intimate, with a smaller menu with some wonderfully authentic dishes. The wait staff was super attentive and knowlegable, and their selection of greek wines was really delicious. Will definitely return."

  • "The food was delicious, but the menu surprised me, as there was not the usual moussaka or spanikopita. I had pastitsio, yummy, & spinach appetizers that were delicious too. An added goody was a glass of ouzo."

  • "Arrived at the restaurant at 6:30 pm for 7 pm reservation. Wanted to hang out at the bar but no seating to be found. So we sat down at our table. Our waiter would not serve us happy hour drinks at the table while we waited for the other couple. This is not a good policy when there is no room at the bar. This was not good customer service. With that said, our server was very knowledge and attentive. We came for restaurant week someone of us went off restaurant week. Much food was shared. Food was cooked perfectly and delicious. We ate well and drank too much. Overall I would recommend this restaurant."

  • "Overall decent experience. Not in a hurry to go back but no significant complaints. Everything was just "good". I prefer to frequent places that are "great". Super loud and the bar crowd kind of lingers over the dinner tables."

  • "The service was great, the ambience, modern, and the clientele was energetic. The restaurant is small so I would book before heading in. It is not you average traditional greek restaurant. The presentation was beautiful but the food was good, not exceptional!"

  • "Unfortunately I was hoping for a more classic Greek restaurant expeience rather than the rather nouveau version served here."

  • "Happened to be traveling to Philly during restaurant week. Was expecting all the restaurants to be packed, but I guess the unusually cold winter helped us out a bit. Went to OPA during restaurant week and enjoyed selections from the special menu. Started out with Horiatiki, then sampled the Spinach Croquettes and had the Salmon with Kale for the entree. Food was delicious and just the right amount. For the fourth course, I tried the Loukomades. I typically love beignets and donuts, but I didn't care for these too much. They were gooey in the middle - maybe a bit undercooked? Overall, thought loved the restaurant and would definitely go back!"

  • "Food itself, quality-wise, was excellent. Small portion, however, was disappointing considering the price. My server took exactly 5 seconds after putting down my plate to come back to me to ask how it was. I know you got to ask it, but it was too obvious that she took it as a formality rather than being truly concerned about my thought on the food."

  • "Five of us had lunch during Restaurant Week which was a great deal. Unfortunately, not all at our table wanted to partake but it was a great deal. We ended up spending more ordering from the regular menu. Great octopus salad, lamb gyros, baklava and of course, inky Greek coffee! We'll be back."

  • "This is difficult for me to rate because I am not a big fan of Greek food to start with but even my wife was not very impressed. I ordered a dish with duck breast and had to send it back because it wasn't cooked enough for my taste. The Baklava, which I was looking forward to trying, was tasteless and dry."
