Onyx Steakhouse and Lounge - Port MoodyGreat foodThe kitchen prepared my steak perfectly (filet, medium rare, Chicago style) and the added lobster tail was perfect. My wife also loved her steak (same as mine) and her prawn skewer. The sides we got were generally good.
I would pick this restaurant over a lot of the steakhouses that I frequent downtown (it was a lot better than Black and Blue and the Keg for instance) and certainly over the other similar priced restaurants in the Port Moody area (Keg and Boathouse).

They have a new, expanded choice menu, which should appeal to a greater range of patron tastes. Special mention needs to be targeted at Lloyd, who is a great resource for: wine recommendations and selection; service; and, customer attention. One should ask for him when you arrive. I do wish that they'd bring back the Gorgonzola for their Mac and Cheese side. The Blue Cheese is still good, but the Gorgonzola was better.

It was the girls' first time eating there; our third. The serveice was great all around, to the point that they not only let the girls split a steak, but served them as seperate plates .
Steaks all around were cooked to perfection. On a previous visit my wife and I had found medium rare to be a little overdone but no hint of that this time.
As expected, the lobster mac and cheese was excellent, as was the bacon brussel sprouts, which has created two new brussel sprout lovers.

For an appie I ordered the tuna tacos. A very well balanced dish, perfectly dressed. For my entree I ordered the petit filet a la carte with a side of lobster mac and cheese and bacon brussel sprouts. Everything was cooked perfectly. The steak was the perfect portion. The mac and cheese was a huge portion for one person and very rich and velvety. The restaurant was a little quiet that night but that made it even better for our romantic dinner. Our waiter was excellent and made some great suggestions. We had our steaks done "Chicago" style and they were delicious. From the appies to the desserts we were thoroughly impressed. We will definitely go back again..5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMSurprisingly goodHaving driven by Onyx a few times, I expected your typical mini-mall steakhouse. I expected a Cactus Club rip-off with appies from Costco's freezer and steaks that tasted like they came from there too.
However, I was wrong, and I am not afraid to admit that I was wrong. Onyx demonstrated what I like to call door-to-door service, meaning that from the time I came in the door to the time I left by it, I was treated with respect, consideration, and the care given to a valued customer. The food was spectacular. The prime rib was tender, flavourful, and perfectly cooked. The server was amiable, knew the menu well, and had the right mix of spending time at the table and attending to our order.
