  • "It holds a solid 4 being carried by the ambience and service. The staff was exceptional and I have dined from Daniel in New York City and about 50 nights of fine dinning service thru Chicago, Miami, Vegas, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, DC, Charlotte etc.. I tried a bit of a few dishes that were great BUT I must say that I was not so thrilled with the Prime Rib which is featured on the weekends. I really didn't want to complain but it was lacking in any flavour and not seasoned correctly. With the service we received I would visit again .. Just going to try another dish. For people in Port Moody area it is a great option for date night, guests, business ambience. If your outside, I would highly recommend as its a gem in a unique spot."

  • "Despite the ridiculously overattentive service (we' were there here to visit our friends, not chat with the waiters), one was left with the feeling that this restaurant is a chain and their bottom line is the most important thing. The typical steaks and prime rib were flavourless, the caesar salad was dry, and the side of braised brussel sprouts with bacon tasted like the bacon was left over from last weekend's brunch. A giant chocolate cake for dessert was dry and the frosting grainy. Have to say that even though the Keg is not a place I frequent gladly, if we're talking apples to apples, the Keg is superior in every way except for noise level."

The staff said they had a new chef and management, and it definitely shows. If you tried it before, give it another try. I bet they will meet your expectations now."

Waiter (Jose) recognized us from before and remembered that we had expressed interest in returning on a weekend for the prime rib special - which is exactly what we ordered! We also ordered a few appetizers. The fresh oysters were phenomenal. The prime rib was fantastic - Onyx definitely has a way with their beef. The Yorkshire pudding and veggies were also fantastic. We ended the meal with a banana split - hadn't had one in years, and it was very good. Jose checked on us regularly without being intrusive. All in all, it was a fantastic experience!"

  • "Was greeted very nicely and seated right away. We didn't like our table so we asked to move which was done fast and got a great booth. The service was impeccable. Everyone was so nice and friendly. Not a big red wine list. But found a glass from California that was very good. We had the 5oz filet mignon. Nice to have the smaller option. Mine was good. My dates had some gristle and fat which he did not like. I added the Brussels sprouts to my dinner and were very yummy. The food needed something. Not the best steak dinner. I've had better and I have had worse. But felt very comfortable and wasn't all the way downtown."

  • "My husband and I went to Onyx for Valentine's Day dinner. The food and service were great! We really enjoyed ourselves. The steaks were perfectly grilled. The spice mix was delicious. We had the brussel sprouts and the lobster mac and cheese as sides and they were really delicious. We will be back the next time we want a steaks."

  • "We had reservations for two and we were seated after some consultation between the Host and the manager. Our table was so near the front door we had a cold draft every time the front door was opened. We were not greeted by our server for at least 5-7 minutes which at that time she took our drink order. We thought it unusual since it was Valentine's Day and the store was busy. The service from her did not match our expectations of good service. The restaurant manager ended up taking our food order. Our drinks took a long time to arrive but our food came out to us in a timeley manner. The food was good but not exceptional. We only left a 15% tip to our server. We expected better service from a restaurant with the reputation of Onyx."

  • "We were very disappointed for the first time on feb 14 it was valentines day as well as our 21 wedding anniversary we booked for 5:30 we are a where you were busy but people that got there same time got there food well before us left before we were finished are dinner 2nd my dinner was warm the potatoes were cold the bread did not show up before dinner usually it dose we inquired they oh it went to another table my wife had the steake and lobster and a side order of potatoes and the melted butter it was all cold 3rd we stay for desert Oder coffee it comes fine had ordered the apple galet after waiting 25 minutes we ask are waitres wher are desert is she said oh it should be 5 minutes well my wife said sorry we can't wait any longer left"

  • "I generally like Onyx, and this is the second time we've done new years dinner there. This year they tried to do an "event". II don't think it was well advertised though. the restaurant was offering up 3 course prix fixe menu and they had a DJ performing. Service was definitely better than the previous year. I like the food and they were great about us bringing our own bottle of prossecco. I think their steaks are fabulous, and i enjoy their cocktails - creative, nice presentation, d delicious. Salmon was great! Desserts were nothing special. The bill was a bit of a mess, but that s not unusual with a group, and they gave us a round of shots."

  • "We went here for new years, and it wasn't a good experience. It took the server 20 minutes to get our drinks and 15 minutes for us to get water. The food overall was okay, nothing you couldn't get at any other steakhouse. I would not recommend this place to anyone."

  • "Restaurant has great potential for ambiance and character . This time the restaurant was mostly empty when we arrived yet the waitress walked us to a table beside a large family gathering with children instead of taking us to one of the many empty quite booths away from the noise. The wine list though quite large selection,is far too expensive. We have had JIM JIM shiraz before and it is $19 in liquor store so $60 is far too high. Dinner with one starter salad,2 small prime rib dinners , no dessert or coffee and a bottle of Jim Jim shiraz was about $150 with tip. There are many places in our area that are better value for the $$, which may explain why the restaurant was not very populated at prime time in the Christmas season."

  • "HI I am a returning customer and this was my 3rd time to this restaurant and I would say something has happened in your kitchen and to your menu 1st disappointment-no lamb chop or rack of lamb--lamb shank??? really boring and not exciting at all to eat 2nd disappointment-steak was totally unseasoned, no pepper no salt..if your chef cant season it at least put salt and pepper on the table 3rd mash potatoes, Onion rings, buns and seasonal vegetables were the best thing on the table"

  • "I have been to Onyx on several occasions over the past 12 months, and have experienced both excellent and a few off nights. In the past, the food preparation could be somewhat inconsistent. Whenon, it was really fantastic. On the occasional off night, the steaks tended to be overdone. Lately, consistency has improved to always great. I would like to see thicker cuts, however, the food is top quality and so is the wine list. Staff like Jose and Andre are always friendly, welcoming and attentive. Patrons are usually decent and well-mannered and never seen any gang element, unlike the Keg sometimes. Overall I highly recomend Onyx as a fine quality restaurant, without any pretentiousness. Nice mix of fine service but relaxed."

  • "The restaurant is beautiful and I loved the look of it. The food however was alright but definitely not worth the price we paid. I got the burger which was over seasoned and over powered by the horseradish relish; the fries were greasy. My boyfriend had the steak and lobster which was cooked well and seasoned right. The portions are small for the price and you have to pay extra for side dishes. Overall service was OK our waitress and the floor staff were all friendly, but the kitchen was so slow. Our mains took close to an hour to arrive and we were starving by then. This was our first visit and most likely will be our last. We left unsatisfied with our experience."

  • "The hostess and server are informative, but the food wasn't so great. Calamari; slightly over deep fried and a bit chewy but the oil was new. Tuna tacos; saw someone's photo and they looked good, generous amount of mango slices and two slices of tuna. Ours; stingy mango pieces, generous amount of shredded lettuce, and only one slice of diced tuna. Tacos tasted bland and the only thing you could taste was the shell and lettuce, with random soft pieces which was of course the tuna. Steaks, filet mignon tasted tender, but the dry rub was not that great, or tasty. The rib steak wasn't tender, flavourful, or juicy enough. Mushrooms duo and creamed corn, average, not the worst or best. Signed up and got a $20.00 coupon but wasn't worth it IMO"

  • "Food was delicious! We used a three course Mobile Bandit coupon and it was all very good. Steak was delicious and cooked perfectly, wine was a standard house white. If you're feeling heart-attacky, try the tempura bacon, which was excellent for sharing and very tasty. The server we were given, however, not so good. Seemed distracted, interrupted us frequently while we ordered, and in general was not really interested in us at all. The guy who seated us ended up helping us far more and was waaaaaay more friendly. Overall, food great. Service poor. Ambience typical."

  • "This place has all the ingredients for a great dining experience. Great location, lovely decor, interesting menu. BUT all of that was overshadowed by the terrible food! It was dry and tasteless and served lukewarm. At a $30+ price tag per meal, I would expect more than this. Will not be returning."
