ONoirGreat dining experience --Great dining experience -- I didn't think it would be THAT dark, but it was! Pitch black. It's a lot of fun but it also makes you more aware of the realities of those who are visually impaired. Matthias was our waiter and he was absolutely wonderful. If you're a fast eater, the service in-between courses may seem a little too leisurely -- just don't be shy, call out your waiter's name and they'll help you out.11/3/2013 12:00:00 AMExtraordinary experience! After choosing your dishes among a short -which usually implies fresh cooked dishes- mediterranean menu, and an as short but clear list of wines and beverages, you are given your waiter's name and have to wait for it. Once arrived, he will lead you in another completely dark room. Your eyes won't have a chance to get used to it, you'll see nothing from the beginning to the end and will have to trust all your other senses. It made us appreciate even more what we managed to catch in our forks : a tender piece of lamb. Nothing. Potato and a mushroom sauté. You will eat with better care. The dessert were the perfect final touch with the wine, and our helpful and gentle waiter. You go out of there like you wake up from a dream.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMan experience to liveThis an experience to live once in a life time, if of course your not scare of the dark. You don't see absolutely nothing so you have to develop your other senses. You can choose what you eat (and tell if you have any restriction) or you can even take the surprise meal. For the appetizer, my boyfriend took the surprise meal and was never able to guess what it was, cause its is harder when you can't see it. as for me I took the surprise desert and I could guess a little but not completely. The food was really good, for my meal I took a duck pancake and it was delicious. Yes it was a little more noisy then some restaurant cause you develop your other senses and you have a slight tendency to talk louder than usual.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAdd to your bucket listThis was my third experience at O Noir in Montreal. Each time, we brought different people and each time have had rave reviews. We were fortunate enough to have Guillaume serve us again, and what a gem he is. He brought so much energy and and fun into the service that even my 7 and 10 year olds are already asking when we can go back. A really fun hot spot to host out-of-towners that will have guests telling stories for a long time!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMNew AppreciationWe enjoyed this very unique experience of eating blind. Our server was very polite and friendly. Two of us got the other's main dish but didn't realize the error until we were nearly finished! Both were quite tasty. I definitely have a new appreciation for navigating eating out without sight. The only down side was how long we waited to be escorted out after we had completed our meal.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMAlready recommended to 3 friends..This is such a unique experience. Anyone that wonders what it's like to be blind or how to learn to cope with blindness would find just the challenges of eating in the dark a remarkable experience. Heightening your other senses to amazing food is simply a bonus and worth every penny!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place for a blind dateOne of the most unique dining experiences you can have, where presentation is the last thing thought of. It's a great night out, and guaranteed laughs. I'd highly recommend O'noir and would go back to try all the 'surprise' options from the menu next time :)6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMExotic experienceHaving dinner at the Onoir isn't only about food, is a chance to walk in some other person's shoes. It's an opportunity to extand your horizons and enrich your senses. But, only if you have your…eyes wide open.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Dining ExperienceThe overall experience of dining in complete blackness was amazing! Be brave and order the Chef's surprise, it's lot of fun trying to figure out what your eating. Food was great and our server, Matteos (Matt), was terrific, great personality and skills. He helped make this a wonderful evening and I highly recommend O'Noir, especially if you are hosting out-of-town guests.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experience, mild foodThe experience is amazing. Me and my friends found it super fun to eat and be served in the dark, be guided to our tables etc. The food itself isn't remarkable... And the price you pay is obviously not because of the food, it is probably pricy for the experience you have there. Our waitress was really nice, polite and friendly, and she helped us have the best experience there. I wouldn't recommend going in a big group, it can get a little loud and you will not be able to listen to people in the other side of the table. I would say 4 is the right number of people in a group to go there.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFun and eye opening experienceGoing into this me and my friend were really nervous. Our server Julie made out expire nice very comfortable. The food was fantastic ad very high quality. There was live music in the dark. Definetly going to come back gain.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMInteresting ExperienceA place to go for an interesting experience (dining in complete darkness, and be ready to use your hands, although good news is no one can see you). The food was great when I was there - Had the crispiest and most delicious potato wedges ever! Also had good music when I was there. Really helps you appreciate your vision and other senses a lot more.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMDining in the dark.I took my girlfriend here for our one year anniversary dinner and it was absolutely incredible, amazing food, extremely friendly staff (all the waitors are legally blind), and the experience of dining in the dark was something everyone should get a chance to experience, it was a lot of fun!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMVery unique experience, must try! This is my first time dining in a restaurant so dark you literally can't see a thing. The beginning was a bit scary and we had to hold onto each other's shoulders to get to our seats. The dark definitely makes you pay attention to the taste of your food more, and trying to get it on your fork! The trout appetizer was smooth, cool, and refreshing. The vegetarian dish of the day (unfortunately don't remember what it was called) was great--lots of vegetables and some cheese--but by the end it had cooled down and didn't taste as good anymore. Service was very friendly and comforting, a little slow when we were trying to get our bill but otherwise great. If you've never had an eating in pitch blackness experience, I'd definitely recommend going!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMHow amazing was that?O'Noir was such a great experience! I went with my family when we visited Montreal and we couldn't stop talking about it through the rest of our visit. This gives you a different perspective on life and sight. I'm thankful I can see everything around me, but O'Noir shows how people take eyesight for granted. I can personally say my hearing ability has heightened! Everyone should do this at least once in their lifetime!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMImpressiveThis is one of those things you have to try in your lifetime.
It is beyond words how impressive these waiters are at their job, and it makes you feel so thankful for having your sight.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMIncredibly unique dining experienceI arrived to O.Noir with a group of 4 (myself included) on Saturday for a 6 PM reservation. We were greeted by exceptionally friendly front of house staff. Our server Mathias brought us to our tables and was so attentive, funny, and informative. Thanks, again, Mathias!
Our food was great - really super value for the food you are being served! I guess they don't need to jack up the prices for swanky decor :) 3 of our party ordered the 3-course surprise meals and all of us were blown away. The 4th diner ordered the calamari, filet, and the mousse, all which were exceptional as well. Hats off to the kitchen staff, as well!
I am absolutely going to share with friends, family, and co-workers the incredible and unique experience we had at O.Noir.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGgggrreeaaattt :)Awesome restaurant, the place looks great ;P in complete darkness, must try!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMExtraordinary experienceloved the experience and I would redo it if it was cheaper than that!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMExperience was definitelyExperience was definitely memorable...
Food was average. Expected a little more. and the "surprise" dessert was surprisingly not good at all. Would definitely take others there for the experience again and would recommend it to anyone looking to try something different.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
