Diner Reviews
  • "Having eaten at some of the top restaurants around the world (Jean George, The French Laundry, The Square, Le Cinq) I found this dining experience absolutely superb! We chose to sit at the bar to observe the action happening in the open kitchen and the food was as wonderful as the show! We enjoyed speaking with the chefs as they cooked and relished in every one of the seven dishes that was created for the 'impromtu tasting' menu! Although we chose not to do the wine pairing, their sommeliers were talented at choosing wines that would go well with our upcoming dishes. We look forward to our next visit!"

  • "Run, don't walk, to this totally amazing restaurant! We asked to sit at the bar that runs the length of the open kitchen and are so glad we did. Amazing to watch all the culinary magic happen right in front of us. Opted for the Chef's Surprise Tasting Menu and could not have made a better choice. 7 courses, however with two of us dining that meant we each got a different dish for each course! We shared each one so we actually had 14 different dishes. The food was outstanding and the presentation like works of art. The pastry chef presented, personally, his 2 works of art to us and they were heavenly. The whole evening was an experience and one we will certainly repeat!"

  • "In the early days ONE was just perfect, then things just went wrong. But now ONE has climbed to it's highest post providing a truly fantastic dining experience! The new chefs are absolutely on top of their game! Run, don't walk to ONE."

  • "We had heard about One, but never expected such a great meal. We had the four course meal and made great choices. Wonderful service, complex flavors, great surprises between courses. Am going back with other friends next week."

  • "I had a great meal here. The service was excellent, the tasting menu was well thought out, and paired with very good wines. I will return here the next time I am in town."

  • "We dined here for the first time after reading so many great reviews on Open Table. We could not have been more pleased! The experience was wonderful from the time we arrived until we left. The food was perfection, the service was very attentive without being overbearing and the wine selections unique. We can't wait to go back."

  • "Our evening started with our waitress being unable to help my father select a bottle of Pinot Grigio and our having to request the Sommelier (who has assisted us in the past) and then my dirty martini arrived without an olive....the waitresses' response "Do you want me to go get you an olive" my response "Well...really I would have liked my dirty martini arrive with an olive and not have to ask you to bring me one". It just was not enjoyable. They did accommodate my request to be seated near the entrance because of a mobility issue with my father and I have had good experiences in the past."

  • "Well deserving of it's title as Best Restaurant in the Triangle (News & Observer). The food is inspired, the service fantastic. We were celebrating our anniversary, and they went out of their way to make our dinner memorable."

  • "We have eaten food all over the world from fancy restraunts to street vendors, so it is hard to surprise us. This was one of the most memorable dinners I have had. Go for the chef's tasting menu. It was awesome. The price was a steal for the level of detail in this food, and the service was attentive, friendly, and unpretentious. Thanks to the chef and staff for a really special meal and evening. We will drive two hours to eat here again."

  • "I read some reviews about the service being poor, but that was certainly not my experience. The service was exceptional. I was there for my birthday and was treated extremely well. We ordered the impromptu testing menu and it was well worth it. The food was unbelievable. I would definitely recommend this place."

  • "If you're adventurous - the Impromptu Tasting is for you. Two of us dined together, and had a great 7 course meal - where each of us were given different food items. Because of that we got to try so many different, fantastic things. They will also tailor to your needs / tastes if you have allergies or aversions. It is also a really neat set-up, where you have a view right into the kitchen and can watch all of the chef's doing their work. It was particularly fun to watch the pastry chef preparing the different desserts!"

  • "This was our first trip to One. The meal we had, celebrating our anniversary, was one of the great meals of our life. Every course was outstanding and delivered with expert skill. They did not miss on a single thing all night. I am not a huge fan of spending time in Chapel Hill, but now I have a reason to make the drive over. This was an amazing experience."

  • "We've dined @ all of the prominent restaurants in the triangle. For shear creativity, presentation...& taste, we would both rank One as the best in the triangle despite being only our second trip there!"

  • "One follows the mostly farm to table format and only selects a few items for its menu that the chefs know they can do well. This is fine since the food is outstanding and give you a chance to try something you might not otherwise think about. Atmosphere is very contemporary with an open look - from the dining room to the kitchen so you can watch the chefs while you're chatting with your dinner party. Great service and they will even whip something up from the bar or kitchen if you request it. Nice place, especially for a special occasion since it's not cheap."

  • "Please know that there is no other place in North Carolina with such inventive and focused Chefs. Staff is amazing."

  • "The food was fabulous; spectacular presentation, portions modest. The noise near the kitchen is too much! We asked to be moved to the front end, but a table was not available, so we went to the bar, which was perfect. The chairs were very comfortable."

  • "The food was very good, but the portions were small and the price was rather high. It might be nice for a special occasion or out of town guests, but not for regular dining (at least not for us)."

  • "Best dining experience you can enjoy in the triangle area! And yes, I do describe it as an 'experience'. The level of refinement and skill is unparalleled for this area. You're watching a professional culinary team assembled to bring you levels of dishes you cannot replicate at home. I brought my parents here for their milestone birthday's (75 and 70) this weekend. We sat at the bar and experienced the chef's tasting menu (the very best way to dine here!) My parents' comments were: "We're witnessing the pinnacle of a food experience here. It is as if we're watching a choreographed dance of professionals." Translation: They LOVED it! Kim, Daniel, Sean, Jon - thank you again for a phenomenal experience :-)"

  • "My wife and I loved One. She had the flounder and I had the ribeye and both were excellent. The food was exceptional and you could tell the chefs had worked with some of the top restaurants in the country. The service was top-notch too! We are eager to go back and would highly recommend it based on our first visit."

  • "Have dined here twice within the last month, both times had the impromptu tasting menu. Different items for the diners for each course. This means 10 different items for the 5 course meal. And all courses beautifully presented. We are not stuffed or bloated when we leave. That is the most amazing part about the dining experience. Masterful presentations, great taste combinations. We should be photographing each course. Only downside is the verbal description of each course is delivered rapid fire. Because we ordered the impromptu menu, we do not know what we would receive. So, if you have the time, please look at this link: http://www.danandkim.squarespace.com/ Here one will view some of the Chefs' creations!"

  • "The chefs at One have brought a new level of amazing virtuoso cooking to the Triangle area. The tasting menu is incredible, featuring rare ingredients locally sourced in unexpected combinations, in every case bringing out some flavor combinations that are surprising but delicious. The service is orchestrated by an extremely well-trained staff. A restaurant like this in New York would cost three times as much. Highly rated as a unique resource for fine dining."

  • "The service was fantastic, and some of the food was great! Starters, small bites, and dessert had some very unique gems that were amazing. The entrees, however, were mediocre at best - overcooked and flavorless steak, and flounder that was perfectly cooked, but was overly salty and didn't taste particularly fresh. For the price, I was expecting far better. "

  • "We've been to One twice since the change of chefs (to Daniel Ryan and Kim Floresca) and both times the food has been superb - interesting, creative, and true to the ingredients. This time my wife and I had the tasting menu with wine pairings. Sometimes the wine pairings don't justify the extra cost - not so here. Each wine truly enhanced the course. All of the courses were excellent, so I can't even pick out winners to suggest (other than the amazing black lager fried cobia. Order it. Somehow, some way, and try to match how it looks (burnt to a crisp) to how it tastes (the best lightly battered fish you've ever tasted). All in the lagar. Service is friendly & professional. Very highly recommended. Not cheap... "

  • "I have lived in the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill area for 44 years and this was the best meal that I have ever had in this area. Amazing food backed by a professional staff that clicked in harmony from the moment we walked in the door until we left... We tried the Chef selection impromtu dinner and were surprised with 7 courses of novel harmonious flavors (prepared under the direct supervision of Kim and Daniel) & we had fun tasting, sharing and being entertained... Expensive by area standards but I think that we actually got more than we paid for. This is a restaurant that we want to keep in the area. "

  • "The food was great and the service friendly enough... although they could loosen up a bit. The menu is limited and not at all kid friendly. And my kid will eat just about anything. I, personally, have an issue with the lighting... it is a bit bright and austere for my taste, but the food does make up for a lot."

  • "Celebrated our 39th anniversary at ONE. First time going there. Friendly excellent service. Interesting and creative menu. Beautifully prepared food that was delicious. Small portions. We enjoyed the cucumber soup, golden beet salad, heirloom carrots, duck and flounder. The duck was very tasty. Kitchen is open to view chefs preparing the food. WInes are displayed in a glass wall storage system. It's a unique place for the Triangle. It's expensive but worth it. "

  • "We had the impromptu tasting and the food combinations were awful. I had already been at One and had a wonderful experience ordering from the regular menu. The tasting did not work out so well. My family and I did not enjoy any of the courses, including the dessert."

  • "My second meal at One, and it was again phenomenal. Six of us had dinner on a Thursday; the restaurant was busy but not bustling and had its characteristic calm elegance. The food was extraordinary: inventive, intensely flavorful, subtle and just plain good. The chefs are showing real technical skill and art. The ingredients are ridiculously high quality. Friends and I speculate about their getting a Michelin star, the first in the Triangle. The tasting menu is pricey, but relative to the rest of the menu is a very good value, and anyway the place is serving food that would cost twice as much or more in another city. "

  • "Heard a lot of good things about this place. I only can say, they are true. Indeed this is currently the best restaurant in the Triangle. "
