Diner Reviews
  • "This is a spectacular room with three sides of windows looking out at the ocean and Santa Monica Pier. The furnishings are nice and one wall has a large fireplace for colder days and nights. But the food is unpredictable. We have had great meals here and then we have had some that are just so. Our last visit, the food was just so. Despite the waiters description and assurance that my pork chop would be cooked through but not dry, it was bone dry and therefore without flavor."

  • "Came here for my birthday dinner. The restaurant is right on the ocean so any table will have a view, although despite our request for the best view possible, our party of 10 was seated in the side corner and it still took a moment to get seated despite an advance reservation. However once seated, service was prompt and courteous and they really do have the best seafood dishes. A friend ordered the halibut which was flaky and fresh, better than our sea bass which wasn't too bad. Appetizers are delicious - particularly the prawns - but small, and the place is pricey as is valet ($8 with validation). Still, worth coming to for a special occasion every now and then. Gorgeous cape cod style environment within the restaurant."

  • "This was a special night for me and a lady. They went out of their way to get us a grat table, and to make us feel that we were hored guests. The food was very good and well presented"

  • "Brunch is very stylized, unlike most that have a Hugh selection from appetizers to deserts. The food was well prepared, service impeccable, a great ocean view, day or evening this restaurant has great ambience."

  • "I've been to One Pico and the lower level restaurant many times. The ambiance is hard to beat. The hotel lobby is like an up scale beach house with comfortable seating and two fire places, which are lit in the evenings. Giant open windows in the airy restaurant allow a breeze to come through, as you gaze at the sensational view of the ocean, sipping your favorite wine, champagne or martini. Very elegant dining experience. By day, I've celebrated many a birthday with the girls and in the evening, surrounded by candlelight, memorable dinners. The dress is chic beach and frequented by Europeans staying at the hotel. Not for kids. The food is okay at best and changes like the tide. A strange menu that tries too hard, but the quality is fresh."

  • "My wife and I went to One Pico to celebrate out 10th Anniversary and we had a wonderful time. Corner table with great ocean view and even a sliding door that allowed us access to the fresh ocean air. Our meals were delicious, service by Tim attentive and we had a memorable time. We will definitely go back in the future."

  • "The hotel was very hot and uncomfortable. I was told it was a formal restaurant (no jeans, dressy, etc.). It was far from upscale! It was uncomfortable and very hot! Not worth it at all. Food was great but the experience was horrible!!! I would never go back and I don't recommend it all if you are looking for a nice restaurant ."

  • "Beautiful view, great food and uncommon service. Having a live jazz trio who could flawlessly handle Herbie Hancock songs was just icing on the cake. My girlfriend wants to make this place our official anniversary spot. We'll done One Pico, well done."

  • "Took my wife to One Pico for her birthday, based on OT reviews and a desire to be by the beach. The setting is truly beautiful, and the décor makes one feel like being at a old-style resort in Key West. We arrived early but were seated immediately at the best table in the dining room. I had noted on our OT reservation that it was my wife's birthday and would appreciate a view of the sea, but otherwise wanted to keep things low key. Our waiter Tim was very knowledgeable and accommodating without being pushy. My wife's sea bass and my filet were cooked exactly as requested, although the highlight for each of us may have been the potatoes (whipped for her, roasted fingerlings for me). Delicious & understated tiramisu w/candle for her!"

  • "If someone asks me what I recommend, I ALWAYS suggest the scallops. They were not on the menu this time, so I ordered strictly vegetables and I was in heaven. Each dish was delectable and I am never disappointed! The creamed corn and the corn succotash are also remarkable! ALWAYS a great experience at One Pico!"

  • "You can't beat ONE PICO at Shutter's Hotel for ambiance and food. Service is top-notch and everyone is very friendly. I live in Los Angeles and don't usually dine at a hotel, but this one is a terrific exception."

  • "Always spot on. Consistent, reliable, warm, friendly, delicious and fresh foods, refreshen, happy ambience, never had a grumpy server, easy parking, great lobby lounge, always get our preferred table - Albeit, we feel comfortable, relaxed and homey here. No pretenses here. Even waiting for your car can be fun - great patrons and staff to talk to."

  • "One Pico in Shutters is a great place to go for a special meal in a beautiful setting. The service is great, the food very good and the location is great."

  • "First off One Pico has a great scenic view and a very impressive wine list, other than that not much to recommend. Our server was just ok but nothing special, our steaks were cooked just right but the side dishes which were mashed potatoes and broccoli were very bland with no taste. I can only recommend this place for the awesome view which maybe the only way I would come back just for drinks though at sunset."

  • "I had previously dined at One Pico a few years ago for a birthday celebration, and I thought it would be a perfect spot for brunch again with a few girlfriends. One Pico did not disappoint, and was even better the second time around. The setting was divine, our service was impeccable, and the food was delicious! I had the pork belly hash and it was amazing and also very affordable. I was extremely entranced by the serene and quiet surroundings. Such the perfect place for friends to get together, have some Bloody Mary's and catch up. I highly recommend One Pico."

  • "We went to One Pico to celebrate a promotion and the ambiance was perfect. So much sunlight, and view of the ocean really added a lot of value to the delicious food we were served. My coworker surprised me with a Congratulations dessert and I was touched. They wrote congratulations in chocolate on the plate! I wasn't expecting it. It was a long lunch, but the food and view made it hard to go back to work."

  • "Ambiance is perfect. I plan to take friends and my inlaws there so they can get a feel of California. Awesome view of Santa Monica Beach."

  • "Lovely ocean view and wonderful service, but the food was only good, not great. For the price and setting, expected a much better culinary experience. Lobster pasta was only pretty good, sea bass a bit better but still not fantastic. Beet salad with burrata and plums was more compelling, though very light on the cheese. Pea soup was the shining star of the meal. Dessert selection was uninteresting, so we were disappointed and skipped it. Some time ago, we enjoyed several of the best desserts we'd had in quite a while here. Asked for a romantic table by the window, as we were celebrating, and we were sat near it, but between us and the window sat a chatty pair of business associates completely ignoring the view we'd hoped to savor."

  • "I came here for dinner last week. I'm no stranger to Shutters, but in all my years I've only ever eaten at the more "casual" restaurant downstairs, Coast. As the day starts to wind down, One Pico is subjected to some amazing views and a great Sunset from the second floor window on which the restaurant sits. So "A" for ambience. The food was excellent. I usually don't like split pea soup but the chef made this one excellent (and vegan). Beet salad was great too. The Burata was top notch, and the beets perfectly cooked. For mains steelhead trout and short rib. Both cooked perfect. The plating is simple, but then when the food is this good, let the food do the speaking, not the decoration on the plate. We enjoyed to the chocolate cake too!"

  • "One Pico is a very attractive room with upmarket beach house decor and a fabulous beachside location with lovely ocean views. The service was attentive, professional and well-informed. We shared a salad for the appetiser, and they went to the trouble to make up two separate plates. The menu is not particularly innovative but is very appropriate for the location, with a good range, and the dishes are well-prepared with fresh quality ingredients. There was a good selection of wines by the glass, and the waiter provided useful recommendations. It was our second time at One Pico. We enjoyed it very much and would definitely go again."

  • "A warm and friendly greeting, an inviting sitting area with a phenomenal view of the Pacific Ocean. The bar and food service was professional, courteous and yet friendly and engaging. Highly recommend One Pico for an important business dinner, romantic evening with a loved one or a special family event. Superb!"

  • "We wanted a nice restaurant to celebrate a wedding anniversary, and, we found that nice restaurant! Our waiter was very good, gauging his service to our timing. We both had sea bass, which was delicious. The wine list was very good, offering selections at all prices. We were fortunate in that we had a window table, which allowed us to fully enjoy the beach view and activities. I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation. And, although it is fairly expensive, not totally outrageous."

  • "View was lovely, but service was incredibly slow and food was not great and uninspired. This is the second time that I've experienced this at One Pico. In spite of the lovely setting, I'll think twice before going back."

  • "I reserved through OpenTable the day before, and they accommodated my every request. The entire experience was outstanding, from greeting to seating to eating to relaxing at the table afterward (and being told, "take your time and enjoy the view"). Can't say enough good things about this place, and will definitely be back!"

  • "It was our anniversary. We asked for a quiet table with the view. We got it. Service was superb and food great. We got squad and pork bally appetizer. It was delicious and looked good. I had pork chop and my husband had see bas. My dish was wonderful, his was good also but not exactly as we expected. Desert was good."

  • "Found the restaurant by OpenTable for a dinner. Enjoyed and came for breakfast. Still good. Repeated that pair the next day so overall we used to be here for 4 times. The dishes are pricey and portions are not big but the quality is good. The atmosphere, view and service are great. The pleasant feature - Tawnee 20-year port wine is not expensive here and the chocolate cake is outstanding. So the best dessert experience in the neighborhood."

  • "Wonderful restaurant. Disappointed as I made reservation for window/beach view as I was bringing someone from New York for dinner. Reservations were made nearly 2 weeks out. Our table was nice, in the corner with a peep hole wiew from one seat. One Pico is perhaps one of my favorite restaurants in West L.A. I will return. Everything was perfect otherwise."

  • "So there you sit next to a huge window with a perfect view of the beach at Santa Monica. They could serve mediocre food and people would still come--but they don't, the food is GREAT! For myself, even more critical than the view and the food is the fact that the servers and kitchen staff really listen. My family has complex food allergies: I am severely gluten-intolerant and have dined at One Pico successfully on 2 occasions (and plan to go back). My daughter is a real challenge: no tomatoes, no potatoes and (the hard one) no peppers including paprika and hot peppers. So seasoning is a problem. Our server consulted at length with the chef and my daughter and I both got a delicious and safe meal. The beet and burratta salad is amazing!"

  • "One Pico has a limited dinner menu but an extensive liquor and wine listing catering to guests who drink. The qualify of service is based on the waiter's assessment of your total bill at the end. Obviously, if you drink tap water and no liquor or wine, the service would be mediocre. The reception was unwelcoming and downright rude. The black cod was good but the Brussels sprouts were burnt the top 2-3 layers. We were given seats half blocked by a wall so that one of us could not see the beach despite of the fact that we requested an ocean view seating and we were the first two guests to arrive at 6 p.m., so there was no excuse not to give us a better view unless they are prejudice against Asians. Not worth the high cost, won't go again. "

  • "This is one of our favorite restaurants and for the foirst time we had a bad experience. Two of the foods were returned twice since both times the steaks were way over cooked and the waitrees was not happy about getting it right! Not the usual service at one pico!"

  • "Brunch for 3 was just under $300. Not worth the food or service but the view of the beach was good. Parking was atrocious. Brought an out of town guest- she was also not impressed. Had a drink downstairs before our RSVP & could not get any service at the bar. Will go to a Malibu beach restaurant next time. "

  • "One Pico is a good place to go when you're in Santa Monica and want a quiet meal with a view of the beach. The food and service are good. I had a horseradish panecotta with shrimp cerviche which was truly outstanding, actually beyond outstanding. The rest of the food is good hotel food politely served by knowledgeable staff. The Lounge was hopping when we got there with live music and a sense of energy. The dining room remains tranquil, an oasis."

  • "We often celebrate special occasions at One Pico. The setting is lovely, the view of the Pacific and Santa Monica pier is fun, the food is always well-prepared and well-presented with a good variety to appeal to all tastes and diets; and you can hear each other talk. We usually bring our own wine, but there is also a full bar and the bartender knows how to pour. The less formal dining area in the "living room" is also a gem.... with great music, comfy sofas, and a bar menu."
