Diner Reviews
  • "The ambiance of the restaurant and hotel is lovely. The setting on the beach is magnificent. The food was just alright. There were only 4 reservations during the lunch hour. The restaurant needs a new chef. A real disappointment."

  • "One Pico is a good place to go when you're in Santa Monica and want a quiet meal with a view of the beach. The food and service are good. I had a horseradish panecotta with shrimp cerviche which was truly outstanding, actually beyond outstanding. The rest of the food is good hotel food politely served by knowledgeable staff. The Lounge was hopping when we got there with live music and a sense of energy. The dining room remains tranquil, an oasis."

  • "We often celebrate special occasions at One Pico. The setting is lovely, the view of the Pacific and Santa Monica pier is fun, the food is always well-prepared and well-presented with a good variety to appeal to all tastes and diets; and you can hear each other talk. We usually bring our own wine, but there is also a full bar and the bartender knows how to pour. The less formal dining area in the "living room" is also a gem.... with great music, comfy sofas, and a bar menu."

  • "My first time at One Pico and it was exceptional. Tim, our waiter was fantastic and knew when to show up to make sure we were quite satisfied. The food and wine were great. I will definitely be back to enjoy One Piico as well as the other restaurants at Shutters !"

  • "Just a lovely place to have dinner. Very cheerful and beachy. Kale salad with grapefruit was excellent; baked cod less so. I would absolutely go back but was a slightly disappointed with the food."

  • "Great restaurant for quiet conversation, be it business or romantic. Nice ambiance. Service was only okay. I asked for an iced green tea, and was told not available. Suggested to just bring me hot green tea and two glasses of ice, I'd make my own. Brought me back an iced green tea. I ordered the lobster salad with no dressing, and it came covered in dressing. When I mentioned this to our server, he said it's pre-prepared in the morning and he couldn't do anything about it. Not sure why he didn't tell me that in the first place, and then proceeded to bring it to me. As I was with business clients, I didn't want to send it back."

  • "This was our first time at this long-standing restaurant. Perfect in every category. Yes, it is expensive, but we will be back for those "special occasions"."

  • "Our family unit of 6 came for the ocean view, which was spectacular, and experienced both wonderful food and service. Our wheelchair person had seamless access thanks to One Pico's automated lift. Every salad, soup and breakfast dish was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. My 'Eggs Benedict' was delectable and served with pancetta on a bed of kale."

  • "The food was excellent and the service generally very good; let down in part by the bus boys who left our finished meal in front of us for much too long. The view is excellent and ever changing. We recommend it is you are in Santa Monica."

  • "We go every February for lunch...it is special to have lunch and look out to the sandy beaches of Santa Monica. The food is excellent!"

  • "The ambience is great, but the food is terrible. My friend and I both had to send our meals back to kitchen, which is something I rarely do. This place is nice for a drink and maybe an appetizer, but certainly not for dinner."

  • "Lovely spot with great views of the ocean and the Santa Monica Pier, and a lovely sunset viewing location at adjoining patio bar. Beautiful New England decor with an elegant yet comfortable atmosphere , nice selection of entrees for all tastes and excellent service. A favorite choice when hosting friends or want something a little more special"

  • "Took my cousin who was visiting from out of town to lunch last Sunday and we had a great timel. She had the ahi tuna and I had the scallops with risotto. Both dishes we delicious. The bread basket with an assortment of home made breads was very good and the wine list is very respectable and reasonably priced. We requested a table by the window- great view of the beach- and they graciously accomodated the request. The staff is very attentive without being intrusive. The fireplace was on and the whole place was very welcoming and relaxed. The noise level is low so you can easily carry a conversation unlike many other restaurants in LA. They get an A++ from me."

  • "Beautiful place for a wonderful meal. You can't beat the view at One Pico. Right on the beach in Santa Monica. We had a great lunch with terrific service and atmosphere. The dining room feels open and the tables are not on top of each other. It's romantic and comfortable. It doesn't have that touristy restaurant feel that some other waterside restaurants have. Looking forward to going back for dinner the next time I'm in Santa Monica."

  • "I went to One Pico with my boyfriend for a romantic dinner during a trip to Cali. The hostess was very accommodating regarding our early arrival and seating us at a prime table. We had a beautiful view of the beach until sunset. Our waiter was also fantastic - he was great with recommendations, friendly & personable and was very knowledgeable about the menu and origins of the fish. The food is obviously incredible so anything you get would be great. I have to say the only slightly disappointing things were the banana bread pudding dessert (combined two of my favorite things, banana bread & bread pudding, but it really didn't deliver on either) and the lack of wine by the glass options."

  • "We were staying at the Shutters and, I must admit, a bit reluctant to dine in their restaurant, but delighted we did as everything was pitch perfect. The views of the ocean are wonderful and the room is decorated in a thoughtful (think Nantucket or Cape Cod) style that manages to be comfortable and "beachy", yet not shabby, elegant too. Our waitress was Andrea who impressed us very much, particularly since she dealt with a nearby difficult table of diners with aplomb. (Yes, they were not nice and she handled it like a pro. Sometimes it is the customer that's lacking class, not the venue.) Food delicious, setting lovely, gracious service, nothing not to like here. Recommended for lunch."

  • "LA food week menu! Got there ... stunned how beauitful the resturant was and the amazing view of the ocean. I thought the wine list was great and the server actually helped me choose a amazing red wine to go with my food. I cant wait to go back for dinner! BTW please save room for dessert.. you will be amazed :)"

  • "We went for the guest chef from a Michelin-starred hotel restaurant in Positano, Italy. He was kind enough to come out and say hello to us when we arrived, but his food was extremely disappointing. I don't know if he can't get the right ingredients here or what. Service was terrible. We ordered 2 bottles of wine (the Lacryma Christi Vesuvio was excellent--the best part of the dinner) which didn't arrive until we asked again some time after the first course came. Our waiter was indifferent, and half way through dinner announced he was getting off and someone else would take over (on a 7:30 reservation--hardly late). We won't be back soon."

  • "The perfect end of a week is lunch at One Pico. No matter what the weather, lunching in this "glass palace" that is right on the beach with views of the ocean and the Santa Monica pier, and then driving up PCH and through Topanga Canyon to my home in Encino, well it just can't be beat. The ambience, the food, the service is fabulous."

  • "Cant imagine anyone other than out of town guests staying at Shutters would ever choose to dine at One Pico. The food was very average, even though it was a special week with the chef from Le Sirenuse. Over priced too."

  • "Had a wonderful evening of good food and great music in the lobby. Our server was kind and considerate. When we went to the bathroom he put new napkins on our table. The food was delicious, a little over priced, but well worth the money."

  • "The waiters and serving staff were in slightly short supply. The real problem was the lady greeting at the front desk, who was without charm, and not at all good at her job. When we arrived she was nowhere to be seen. We waited patiently behind other couples on arrival. When she eventually appeared, she looked at us all coldly, didn't apologise for our long wait, and did her job without any joy. We were shown to our table and she gave us one menu, promising to return with another: she didn't do that, and we never saw her again. Food was good - especially the spaghetti with lobster, and the octopus salad. A shame that the greeter was so unhelpful."

  • "I travel to LA often for work and always try and get to One Pico for dinner! I'm bad as I always order the same! I pray they don't change the menu! The mussels to start are amazing and for my main I always have the filet steak with the side of horseradish mash which is possibly my favourite thing in the world! One Pico is expensive but if visiting LA is 100% worth the money as it has it all the staff are great never snobby and they are always looking for a laugh. The ambience is really nice too (the pianist in the lobby is my favourite!) I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone! ENJOY!"

  • "Just got a follow up Business Meeting /Dinner to choose at the Santa Monica area. The restaurant has a great ambiance, located at a classy hotel easy valet parking. Great food very friendly but sophisticated waiter. Great Pianist in the lobby/bar area near the Beach Quite off the busy area yet in close proximity. Itzhak"

  • "This place had a lot lacking for what should be a great restaurant. Service was not good and had a lot of mistakes as well as poor communication with our group. My shrimp salad was over cooked shrimp doused on pepper. My filet was overcooked and also way to much pepper. Each dish was half eaten when I pushed it away and the waiter simply whisked them off without asking if they were good and didn't even offer a to go for my half eaten $50 steak. Not going back."

  • "I've been a frequent client at Pico One for several years now, and there's no surprises: it's consistently good, they always give me a window table from where I enjoy the view of the beach, the service is always friendly, professional and non invasive, and the food is good. I invite friends as well as business acquaintances for lunch, and everyone enjoys it. I'll keep returning."

  • "First off, the ambience is beyond beautiful! The food was perfection: we had the toasted chicken & veggies, also the baby winter green salad,YUMMY!! Our waiter was very attentive even though he got ambushed later with lunch crowds. I would highly recommend this to anyone for a casual but upscale lunch."
