  • "Restaurant was beautiful! Great location,my beef Wellington was awesome! My friends Guinea Hen smelled and taste a little like fish, we tol our waiter James however he did not comment or ask if he could bring anything else.we did the prefixe menu so we had enough food to share. I loved the Reisling! I wanted the beet salad I saw on line on the menu, however they did not have it. Overall I give it a 5 as I always wanted to go there and we had a great time celebrating my friends new job."

  • "Several friends had recommended this restaurant, so I took my date here. When I got there (while waiting for my date), I sat near the fireplace where a pianist and trumpet player were playing soothing jazz music which enhanced the whole romantic vibe of the restaurant. We were seated near the back next to the windows overlooking the courtyard. Moon (our waiter) was awesome. He had particular recommendations and he voiced his opinions on what we had ordered. Both my date and I really appreciated that, especially since this was our first time (but not last!). And all his recommendations were excellent choices. We're looking forward to coming back, and hopefully Moon will be there to guide us through! "

  • "The ambience is perfect for a romantic night out with a loved one. The food is cooked to perfection, so there is no mistake there. The only downside is dessert, that has no special taste to it (although it is a very visually pleasing experience). "

  • "The services was impeccable but the foods weren't memorable. Chef tasting menu was too salty and lacks innovation in comparison to other restaurants in the same price range and cuisine. The restaurant didn't live up to all the stars that was given. You should definitely ask for the waiter(Moon) because we were always taught that you should always aim for the moon so even if you miss then you will land amongst the stars. I have given 3 stars because of the outstanding services that the waiter provided or else it would of been much lower because the food doesn't justify the price. "

  • "Unfortunately this is my first post as usually my experiences dining in NYC are pretty good. This was the first time it warranted the time to share I know it's never been a food destination. But, it does have its appeal. Our experience was truly terrible. We took visitors for a quiet evening with hopefully decent food. Service was rushed and almost patronizing. The food was just terrible. Will not go back except for bar."

  • "We had the price fix 3 course dinner and it was fabulous. The lobster bisque was velvety smooth and tasted like the essence of lobster. Very innovative presentation as well. I would definitely go back!"

  • "The food was fabulous. We had the prix fixe with a bottle of wine, and both were well worth the money. My only complaint was that a couple had brought their young toddler to the restaurant. What?! It's a romantic restaurant - the ambiance is a big part of the experience; don't bring your kid."

  • "We went to celebrate a birthday. The room is so charming and the piano player was a nice touch. The waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful with the menu. Everything was delicious. I ordered the Beef Wellington, and felt I should have ordered something more adventurous, but it did not disappoint. I really enjoyed the Fluke appetizer. We haven't been here in 15 years, and it was a sgood as we remebered. We definitely won't wait so long to go back."

  • "This was a great restaurant to celebrate a special birthday. There was a fixed price 3 course menu and a la carte which catered for everyone. The pianist added to the romantic atmosphere. Expensive but thoroughly enjoyed it and would visit again."

  • "The food was great - but the restaurant was too cold and my date shaking through the whole meal. The waiter was not attentive and irritated when serving us. So overall not worth the quite pricy bill"

  • "Just awful. The restaurant is so beautiful but the food is inedible. Have a drink and eat somewhere else. Lackluster waiters, unimpressive wine list. How they screwed up this restaurant is a shame."

  • "One of the most romantic restaurants in the city! Live music, incredible atmosphere, and good food. The Beef Wellington is by far the best thing we had."

  • "I went to the restaurant with very high expectation but the food was too salty and very average. I am totally disappointed especially because I paid a high price for this."

  • "Loved the food, loved the ambiance, fabulous and knowledgeable wait staff. Despite the vegetarian taster menu, the dishes on the menu were very meat and shellfish heavy. As written, there were not so many options."

  • "As sulu the Beef Wellington was prepared perfectly. Service was excellent and staff helpful, as always, with wine selection."

  • "I had proposed to my girlfriend (now fiancé) earlier that day and wanted to celebrate with a special dinner. I wasn't really sure what to expect when I booked, however, it ticked all the boxes. There was a grand piano playing as we walked in with plenty of candle light. Our table looked out over a small garden with fairy lights. The food was delicious and our waitress was brilliant. The bill / check was large, although I would say it did warrant the price tag. I recommend this retsaurant to anyone looking for a romantic dinner or a special occasion."

  • "I was with my husband at the restaurant last Sunday on 03/16/14 to celebrate his 38th Birthday and also our 8th anniversary. We enjoyed our drinks at the fireplace with a lovely pianist playing beautiful songs on the piano. The hostess was great. After we enjoyed ourselves at the bar area, she brought us to a lovely table by the window. We decided to have the chefs tasting menu, and it was phenomenal. We enjoyed absolutely the food. The only thing I am disappointed with was my waiter. When I went to the bathroom the waiter spoke to my husband and ruined the surprise I planned for my husband. He also seemed to be prejudiced against me because of my accent."

  • "What sums up my dining experience is top-class! One If By Land, Two If By Sea did not disappoint from a food, service or ambiance perspective and is everything I would expect from a NYC staple. I took my wife here for her birthday and everything was superb from us being greeted at the front to our our dessert being served. We will definitely be back and I highly recommend this spot for any tone looking for great food and a romantic evening to take someone special."

  • "This place always requires tie and jacket for men. It is a fancy upscale beautiful place. I was appaled to see tables filled with people with jeans, plaid shirts, like they were going to costco! To me it completely ruined the ambiance of an iconic restaurant which I have been to many times. It was really awful! Tables of right and ten all dresses like slobs! Also the bar was out of every kind of liquor we asked for. No Bombay gin, they don't carry kettle one vodka only grey goose but then they were OZuzt of the grey goose! Seriously? On a Saturday night? What's going on there? Very distressing. Food was good as always although they are getting a bit stingy with their portions too"

  • "Step through the unassuming door of One if by Land, Two if by Sea and step out of New York and into another world. Musicians playing smooth jazz alongside an inviting bar and a cozy fire greet you as you enter. Beyond is a refined dining area with windows looking on to a bright little courtyard. The signature cocktail got us started on a delicious brunch. Service was impeccable throughout and we appreciated a special touch at the end to recognize our wedding anniversary. Will definitely back to sample the ambience in the evening."

  • "This restaurant was booked after reading a review in a New York magazine i booked two other restaurants off the recommendation of trip advisor and we weren't disappointed when I realised that this restaurant wasn't even in the Top 1000 I should of realised that it wasn't anything special ....ambience was nice ...but food was very very poor ..bland bland bland we spoke to the chef And he assured us he tasted all his food (probably between cigarettes )...if this review saves one couple from a disappointing evening Great .....to some up its all about the buck if you make it all about the customer the buck will come and you might even move up the review league table ........we Brits say fur coat and no knickers ........."

  • "Had a vegetarian tasting menu. A couple of the courses stood out and a few were very pedestrian. Dinner for two was $400 including a single/shared wine pairing. It's a classically romantic spot, and that is largely what you are paying for. Then again, vegetarian is almost against the point of the place. It's nice that they offer a tasting menu for vegetarians, but everyone at the table has to do that menu and as it turned out, we would have been better off ordering a la carte. The wait staff was courteous and knowledgeable and just gets it."

  • "We went to One if by Land, Two if by Sea to celebrate our anniversary (and later on that night, engagement!) and we had a wonderful time. The ambiance was romantic and perfect. The chef even sent us a special anniversary dessert to help us celebrate. The food was delicious. I thank them for helping make our day special."

  • "The food was mediocre and overpriced. There are far better romantic restaurants for the price in New York City. This seems to be a tourist trap."

  • "From the moment we entered this restaurant, we were made to feel welcome. From the bartender to the wait staff, everyone was friendly and kind. The bartender makes the best Cosmos I have ever had! The food was presented well and tasted wonderful. I would highly recommend this restaurant and we cannot wait to come back again."

  • "I have been to One if By Land many times, but not for quite a while since I moved out of NYC. The ambiance is still wonderful, and it is one of the most romantic settings in NYC. The food, however, is just so-so. I ordered rare salmon, it came well done. The dish looked beautiful, but was not very tasty. My husband was disappointed with his beef wellington as well. The appetizers were good, as was the dessert. It was a big birthday for him, and it was wonderful to be in that setting. Might have been better to go for drinks and then somewhere else for dinner."

  • "We had not been here before and couldn't have had a better time. We were greeted by the owner and the service was great, attentive without being overbearing. Food was outstanding, portions were appropriate. Wine list was moderate in length but had many well priced and interesting selections. We plan to go again!"

  • "Enjoyed a wonderful dinner at table that had a view of a lit courtyard...very romantic. Food was well prepared and the service was attentive and thoughtful. We had a tasty beef wellington prepared just as requested (rare). Worth another trip to enjoy different foods."

  • "We were at the OIBLTIBS last saturday for my husband birthday dinner and everybody was really nice and helpfull. The decor is charming and rustic and it gave a really romantic atmosphere. There was a piano player and we were sitting upstairs so the music was perfect. The food was delicious and the portions were generous. I would go back anytime, but it's the kind of place you would appreciate particularly in winter!!!"

  • "So One if by Land, Two if by Sea is absolutely amazing! The ambiance, service was great. The FOOD was absolutely the best in Manhattan that I have had thus far over 3 years I have lived in the city. So what was it, or how can One if by Land, Two if by Sea be the best? The dishes were so delicious-I mean the most tasteful dishes I have had in a long time. The dishes were so very creative in pulling flavors together from the seasoning, to the accompaniments with the proteins making up the complete dish. The ambiance- wow, was perfect for a very romantic evening. The service from checking in to the restaurant through the fine service of the courses was superb. No question here- returning and more than likely returning often here."

  • "This was a 60th birthday dinner and the restaurant did not let us down! Outstanding table, excellent service, romantic setting, ample portions, creative and satisfying menu. If you appreciate excellent food and good service, and understand that comes with a price in NYC, you will not be disappointed."
