One if by Land, Two if by SeaOne of New York's dining gems. One of New York's dining gems. A little tough to get to by car, but well worth the trek. The combination of
food, ambience, and service is unbeatable.6/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food in a Lovely Settingin a lovely old carriage house on a quiet cobblestone street in the heart of the West Village, great for a special occasion. The prixe fix menu was expensive, but the food made it all worthwhile. Not too many places can serve perfect beef wellington and the chocolate dessert was out of this world. Great service - try to get a table that doesn't share the banquette for the full romantic experience, including a lovely shared garden and piano player.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMA rainy nightWe were drenched by the time we arrived at the door, but the staff at OIBLTIBS was sympathetic and helpful in getting us dried out and warmed up sufficiently to settle into a great meal. Especially appreciated the happy anniversary wish with dessert--beautiful and subtle. The three course prix fixe menu offered great options, including specials. Everything was good, but dessert was definitely the highest point--the pistachio panna cotta and double pot de creme are genuinely outstanding offerings.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful place! We live in Manhattan and go here for special occasions. Great food, ambiance and very romantic place! Historical too - Aaron Burr's carriage house. Can't wait to come back!6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were here for our 25thWe were here for our 25th wedding anniversary dinner. Haven't been at restaurant in years. Still beautiful and romantic. Food still very good appears to have been updated.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother great showingService is exceptional. We had our 10 month old along for a celebration and the staff was outstanding. An exceptional group. I thought the food was good and the service outstanding.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AM5 star management as well!Everyone knows that the food, service and ambiance are outstanding, but when my husband and I recently dined there, we were seated at the same table where he "popped the question" 6 years ago. When I expressed this to the hostess, she replied that they still had that notation on Open Table from 6 years ago, and when we again reserved through Open Table, she made sure that we were again seated at Table 62! It made my night!!!That is a perfect example of why they are consistently rated most romantic restaurant in Manhattan!!!6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMNice placeThe overall experience was nice. My reservation was on a Sunday at 11:30am, a brunch date. However, we did feel a little rushed.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMThey went out of their wayVisited for my wife's Birthday and we both loved. They were running late that night but were very apologetic and bought us a round of drinks Beef Wellington was the best I ever had. Food and service were excellent.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMA little gemI was looking for something to help celebrate my partners birthday and stumbled across this little gem! After booking I read the 'mixed' reviews (should have read before!) so was a little concerned as thought I made an error as so e are very negative!! I have to say I was pleasantly surprised and extremely pleased with the overall experience. We've eaten in some amazing restaurants and here I don't feel the negative comments are true. Food, service, ambiance and costs were all good. My partner also loved it!! Give it a try for yourself.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMspecial birthday dinnerwe booked for my girlfriends birthday dinner and it was nothing less than amazing. the restaurant is beautiful and the food is very different, in a positive way. the veal shank i would highly recommend. the wine list is very well laid out, not too complicated and not overly pretentious. the service is great, they really do pay a lot of attention to their customers, something a lot of nyc restaurants should work on. would definitely recommend and shall be back soon.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dinner and ambienceI had a great experience in a wonderful setting. I brought my wife there for her birthday and she was extremely pleased with the food and ambience. Our table was close to a window overlooking a small but elegant garden. It was raining and very romantic. We enjoyed our dinner tremendously. I strongly recommend it. We will probably go back there with people whom we care most.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMQuite expensive and too fewQuite expensive and too few menu choices, a complete menu is nearly obligatory but in the end it is too much. Pity to leave the enormous portions of risotto after the refined meal. Wines are great6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect Anniversary CelebrationI have wanted to eat at this place for a while now, but needed to save up the pennies! The food is amazing, the service is perfect, and the wine list is vast. Come here if you want to spend a slow evening dining on gems and impressing your date. Also come here if you want to empty your wallet.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFilling with both food and wine.Tried the chef tasting menu with wine pairings. Each course was exquisitly prepared and the pairings were right on. There were at least 8 courses.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat special-occasion spotMy husband and I had dinner here to celebrate our anniversary, and had a wonderful dinner. The service, food, and wine were all top-notch, and the atmosphere is just amazingly charming and romantic. I would definitely recommend it for special occasions. Tell them if you're celebrating something special; we didn't, and watched a few table around us receive free truffles. =(6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMNot just for popping the question! The evergreen One if by Land, Two if by Sea with its chandeliers, omnipresent candles and wood-burning fireplaces is considered to be one of the most romantic places in New York City and an ideal place to fall to your knees, open a box, and pop the question. Wrong! Forget about that: married or not, it's just an excellent restaurant. Service is stellar, with waiters who will go out of their way to avoid any conflict and contribute to an unforgettable evening. But hey, it's about the food. Nice amuse bouche, delicately served foie gras (but a larger helping would do not harm), and my favorite, Beef Wellington cooked to perfection. Nice wine list with a wide price range. All in all, a great place, even if you already put a ring on it.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMOne if by Land Two if by SeaThis is one of our favorite restaurants for special occasions. It is quite pricey; for us, it is not a restaurant we visit often. That being said, OIBLTIBS is a treat for any occasion! The service is incomperable and the food never fails to satisfy the pallet. The food presentation enhances the taste experience. Ambiance is pure romance! Noise level is kept to a minimum so couples can share private moments engaged in quiet conversation. This is a must try restaurant for those who have not experienced this romantic and quality eating establishment! A New York landmark.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have been eating thereWe have been eating there since 1993, but this year they have changed to only fixed menus.
I dont' agree, because the restaurant is good for special occasion, when you like to be free to choose your menu.
Besides, the restaurant is still very expensive, even if they have changed to fixed menus5/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWedding Anniversary DinnerWe celebrated our 13 year wedding anniversary! The food was great, the service was great and the atmosphere was great! We well definitely be back!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMJazz on SundayOne if by Land is our favorite restaurant in Greenwich Village (we live nearby). While dinner is pricey, so we go no more than once a month, the Sunday brunch is quite reasonable--especially as you dine to soft jazz that does not intrude on conversation. When we were there on Memorial Day weekend, the music was provided by a piano and trumpet duo. Very enjoyable, and highly recommended.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding experienceWe celebrated an anniversary, and it could not have been better. Began with leisurely drink in the bar room next to fireplace and piano. Proceeded to beautiful table overlooking garden. Waitstaff very professional and helpful with selections. Food was fantastic. Ambiance perfect. Could not have asked for a better experience. A very special place that we will return to.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMOld school romance!I have always wanted to go to this restaurant and I finally went there for a special anniversary. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating in helping make this occasion a once in a lifetime experience!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect dining experienceWe chose this restaurant because of online reviews we read while looking for a romantic place to celebrate our anniversary. It did not disappoint! The service, food, and atmosphere were perfect. Our waitress was dedicated to insuring that our dining experience would be wonderful even though the restaurant. We noticed her special care of all of her tables.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous MealSat upstairs by the fireplace which was so nice. Food and service were both outstanding5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThe last time we ate hereThe last time we ate here was over 20 years ago and I regret that it's taken us so long to come back! Fois gras was beautiful and delicious. Beef Wellington is the best (I had the butter poached lobster which was good, but I had "entree envy" for the Wellington). Service was outstanding and the upstairs room was lovely and quiet enough for conversation.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat date spotThis is a beautiful restaurant with very good, but not outstanding food. It is very pricey, but is very romanic.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMPaulRevere has sumting 2 shoutaboutWhen I booked the reservation through OpenTable, I added a comment that we'd be celebrating our Anniversary. As a result they seated us in a quieter, more romantic room and wished us a Happy Anniversary, multiple times. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. The staff was friendly, accommodating and very knowledgeable. It was an absolutely wonderful dining experience. We rarely go to restaurants of this caliber and price range, and would highly recommend it to others.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMAnniversary dinnerI booked this restaurant for our 10th anniversary and it was fantastic. The service was excellent, friendly without being overbearing. We both had great meals and would go back any time we are in New York.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMA memorable dining experience.A memorable dining experience. The presentation of each dish was outstanding.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMOne if by land two if by sea, NYCMy wife and I wanted to take our daughter out to a very special dinner to celebrate her graduation from Pace University.
We booked a reservation at One if by Land...on a recommendation from a friend.
We could not have had a better time - the candle lit dinner was exceptional and the service attentive, timely and courteous.
The signature dishes here are great - the seared scallops appetizer and particularly the Beef Wellington.
Bring your wallet and be ready to pay well for your meal and drinks--but its NYC, after all, and its worth it if your looking for something special.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMIncredible dining experienceI took my wife and another couple to this restaurant to celebrate my wife's birthday (and their anniversary). From the moment we walked in, we were made to feel welcome and the staff took special care to ensure that each occasion (birthday/anniversary) was noted.
My wife had the lobster and I enjoyed the beef wellington. The wine sommelier was knowledgeable and helpful in selecting a good pinot grigio. We each tried something different for dessert and each was delicious.
This is one great establishment tucked away in SoHo. I would STRONGLY encourage anyone with plans to head to NYC to make an effort to dine here.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGorgeous and GoodThe place is gorgeous, the service is wonderful and we had amazing food. Since I am a long-time vegetarian, I don't expect a great reception at a restaurant that has a executive chef of the highest order. Surprise! There was a vegetarian tasting menu and every single course on it was superb. It was delicious to taste, smell and eat, beautifully presented and there was a lot of food....plenty. Yes, it was pricey for just vegetables, but coupled with the beauty of the place, and the atmosphere, it was worth every dime. I am grateful to know that such as place exists because most of the other older places have been closed.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful Romantic Gourmet DinnerThis is a high quality Prix Fixe gourmet restaurant on a quiet side street in the West Village area. The interior decor is of a colonial tavern/inn, matching the name. But the candles and the soft live piano music creates a more formal and special ambiance.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was wonderful includingFood was wonderful including creative desserts; service outstanding and warm. Extremely beautiful decor.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for special occasionFood was good, the ambiance is part of the price. Upstairs by the balcony affords a great view of the downstairs dining area. Service was attentive and very accommodating.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMPaul Reverewhat a cute little gem in the village. inside you really feel like you're in paul revere's house with the turn of the century wallpaper, chandelier, etc. the menu is a bit pricey. prixe-fix $90, chef tasting $125, vegetarian tasting, etc. before going, just know that the whole table has to do chef tasting or vegetarian tasting. the food is what you would expect for a fancy expensive place, rich in both price and taste5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a gem! Will surely return! Wonderful dinning experience-- fantastic food, attentive and helpful service, romantic ambience. What else could you possibly want!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMRUSTIC with CLASSLoved it from the moment we stepped in. We sat at the copper-topped bar near the pianist and trumpeter before dinner. I had an amazing Sazerac, my girlfriend had the Coupe D'Amour (highly recommended). In the dining room we sat by the tall windows facing a very nice garden and what looked like a very unassuming, ivy-laden entrance to the apartment building above the restaurant. Appetizers (the scallops and spring pea risotto) were amazing, perfectly cooked. The main, a perfectly prepared beef wellington for her, and a succulent osso bucco for me. And finally the passion fruit flan and the chocolate & caramel pot de creme to finish off one of the best meals we've had in NY. Will definitely make an excuse to come back here again.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMQuaint in a lovely wayIt was lovely experience. I went with a friend that had been many times (in years past). And we both really enjoyed it. I will go back. It was a charming ambience. We did the food tasting with the wine pairing. They were several dishes that were outstanding and all were at least very good. The wine pairings were very nice as well.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMRomance for our 2 yr wedding anni!It was a great wedding anniversary my husband and I have lived in NYC for 10 years and hadn't been to this west village staple! It was def perfect for our anniversary dinner!!!5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was flawless matchedThe food was flawless matched only by the outstanding service. A fantastically romantic ambience and the jazz was entertaining.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMMore than very romantic.Really very romantic. A good choice for couples, dates and special occasion when requires calm and intimate ambient, although seems be always with its tables occupied. It's not a luxury restaurant, its biggest qualities are the atmosphere, song and cosiness. It has a adequate wine card and a very polite waiter service. All this virtues will be enhanced for who appreciates jazz, because the duo that plays at the bar is simply fantastic.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely romantic restaurantThis is unquestionably a lovely, romantic and refined restaurant, perfect for an anniversary, a lover's tête à tête, or simply candle-light dining in a warm and cosy atmosphere.
The cuisine is imaginative - or at least tries to be - but I would rate it as being a bit hesitant. Portions are sometimes so small (i.e. the crab), that you have trouble catching the full flavour of it. We tried the full menu, which I would rate as good to very good, but not superb.
The service is very good. At least the head-waiter is a true professional, and as soon as they train the second waiter not to point at your food when attempting to describe it, the service would qualify as "refined".
Overall a fine, romantic experience.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAMAZINGI was blown away, great food and atmosphere! Although it is a bit pricy, totally worth it. Very romantic and quaint...it's also the carriage house of the 3rd vice president! very cool place, loved it.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was very good, serviceFood was very good, service excellent, priced right.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMExceeded expectationsRecommended by a friend and it exceeded my expectations!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways nice to head back here.Always nice to head back here. Also glad that Marie is back at the hostess desk. Everything was superb!! One if by land is a bit outside of my regular budget but for those special days and celebrations well worth it.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMLove this gemI have been before. It is consitently excellent. The staff is friendly and accomodating, yet unpretentious. The food is always wonderful.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely outstanding. TheAbsolutely outstanding. The food, service and the atmosphere were perfect.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
