Diner Reviews
  • "Good food. Great service. Nothing special about decor."

  • "Always delicious and the service by Giovanni is excellent!"

  • "We had a nice dinner at Olivetto. The food was good, but not remarkable. The service was very attentive, although there were several servers working our table and one of them was a little bit spacey. The bread on the table was moist and warm. It was a nice meal and I was impressed how quickly their kitchen turned out our food. That said, it's a small place and you do feel the proximity of other diners."

  • "We had a late Sunday reservation (730). There were a couple people in restaurant but by no means busy. We were greeted promptly and sat. The service was prompt, bread was good and bruschetta was outstanding. My wife ordered the tortellini and a had the seafood spaghetti. Both were awesome! Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a quiet night out. Not a great atmosphere for kids."

  • "The restaurant is nestled in where Mission Hills Cafe used to be. The ambiance is fitting for the area, given the major shift to high end foodie restaurants. The food was good and the service was excellent. I had the pesto pasta and my husband had the veal. Both plates were good. Our needs were met promptly all evening (a water glass never ran dry). I am not a person to rate wine lists, but the pour was ample and the wine was good. I would recommend this place to friends who are in the area."

  • "Really enjoyed having our little group there. We used a Groupon, but I have dined there without the perk several times. I like the location, the service, and the wonderful menu."

  • "Great food and service only downside is high noise level even when not crowded."

  • "The service was terrific, but the food was just ok."

  • "Warm welcome upon arrival... service begins immediately helping you feel comfortable . Every request is handled promptly with a smile. All guests get VIP treatment . The Italian fare is delicious especially the bruschetta . Each Entrée we tried was great. Wine was of good quality... The excellent service makes this a wonderful dining experience. We would go back in a heart beat!!!"

  • "Great Night, tried this place with a Groupon. Server was fantastic and personable. Unfortunately, on our side of the restaurant, all the tables were full and squished together, where as it seemed on the other side it was more spread out. My wife was trapped in the corner behind to other tables. Overall a great night!"

  • "The seafood pasta and homemade ravioli were outstanding. We cannot remember the last time we had large shrimp and green lip mussels that were so fresh, sweet-tasting and melted in your mouth. The creamy tomato sauce on the ravioli was simple, very tasty and just perfect. We split the goat cheese salad which had very fresh greens, not half-wilted and rotting like some restaurants serve. The service was attentive enough and very friendly. Great experience and will definitely return to try some other dishes that sound interesting."

  • "The food and service were was just superb. Our waiter was saw to everything that was needed without being over bearing. From the time we sat down until the check arrived, the waiter pretty much knew what we needed before we knew what we needed. Great job overall. As good as the wait staff is, the food is better. I have ate in most of the Italian restaurants in and around San Diego, the food here is tops. The seafood is fresh and the pasta is spot on. Even the attention paid to their salads is extraordinary. We will be coming back. Seating is tight. I am 155 pounds and 71 inches tall. Getting around the tables, waiters and other patrons sometimes seemed like a task. Once seated, this was no longer a problem."

  • "I had the butternut squash toretelloni and they were excellent. The isalata Olivetto was a good accompaniment. The food there is always very tasty and nicely presented. The service is friendly. I like the atmosphere of awarm neighborhood restaurant and the parking in the garage behind is inexpensive and convenient if you can't find street parking."

  • "Very nice Valentine's Day dinner at Olivetto. They wisely limited the menu and delivered well. The mushroom soup was particularly tasty."

  • "The restaurant is located in a store front type structure on a busy road. The front door was left open as I don't believe the building is air conditioned. Several times during dinner the noise level was very high. There is also no background music which would help the ambiance. Still a nice local establishment but not a destination. The food was excellent. Service top notch as well. Not expensive. Parking is problematic in that entire neighborhood but it's safe there so a walk is probably ok for most people. Overall very good."

  • "We joined friends for dinner. We all chose a different entree. We were all pleased with our choice. We will come again. The food was fresh & tasty and the service attentive."

  • "Enjoyed Olivetto very much. The seafood spaghetti was great with mussels, clams, and shrimp. Quite tasty. The saltimbocca was just perfect. We will be going back again soon."

  • "We have been here so many times and the restaurant never disappoints. We had the salmon and the butternut squash ravioli (our favorite). Both were fantastic as was the chocolate dessert which was surprisingly light. I can't say enough about the terrific service. One waiter was covering the entire restaurant (because someone left early) and he was just great. This is our favorite restaurant in hillcrest."

  • "Great neighborhood spot for an evening with friends. Food was fabulous, waiter was entertaining and helpful and the restaurant was not too loud and annoying like some. Perfect evening!"

  • "I have dined here several times in the past and had a great experience. Went to Olivetto's on New Year's Eve for a romantic dinner and was very disappointed. The waiter was inexperienced and confused.. The appetizer came out ice cold. The entree was mediocre at best. We left before dessert since the first 2 courses were so bad. Not a good experience at all!"

  • "This was the third or fourth time we have ben to Olivetto and it never disappoints."

  • "A delightful evening, with great ambiance, service and food. Pork shank was top rate, as was the house specialty of chicken, spinach and creme sauce. We shall return, and next time with friends."
    Dined on 12/19/2013
  • "We have eaten here before and really enjoyed the food and the service was really great on this last visit.. This time, however, we noticed that the portions have reduced in size significantly and it seems that prices have gone up a little as well. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind paying more for a great meal, I just felt that for the price, the portions could have been a little more than they were."

  • "Food was delicious, fresh, well prepared, good portion sizes, and we all enjoyed our evening there. Service was friendly, attentive, and fun. The least interesting dish was the Chicken Parm, which while very good was less complex than the others. The whole wheat pasta (Integrale) was great with goat cheese and a nice sauce. Caprese with fresh burrata was excellent if a little expensive. but so good it was worth it. The homemade ravioli with butternut squash was a big hit. And the Pollo alla Fiorentina, chicken breast stuffed with prosciutto, mozzarella, spinach, mushroom cream sauce with marsala wine was everyone's favorite, deeply flavorful and yummy. So overall a fine experience."

  • "Nice restaurant. Reasonable prices but food was just fair"

  • "We have been a few times before, and we were always happy we did so. However, on this occasion, we (four of us) were really disappointed with the quality of our food. I have noticed in passing that the number of people I have seen dining there has been declining and I wondered why. I hope that our latest experience is not a sign of things going downhill for the kitchen. The service was still quite good, and the restaurant was inviting, it's just that the food looked and tasted bland and we all left feeling that the quality was the same as, or even worse than, the type of food you would find at those chain Italian restaurants. Based on what we experienced, we probably won't be going back."

  • "Only thing negative about this dining experience was finding parking."
    Dined on 11/30/2013
  • "Always a great place to go have a casual Italian meal. If you have not be sure to try the pasta with seafood, the flavor and sauce are outstanding."
    Dined on 11/14/2013
  • "It was a good neighborhood gem for Mission Hills. The food is not as good as Alexander's in North Park but it actually was still pretty good. I will come back again just to try a couple more things because the menu was interesting. The wine list is not that great but hey, the food made up for the wine."
    Dined on 11/21/2013
  • "Don't know what's going on at Olivetto, but the food has declined horribly. Six of us went on a Monday night this week and not one good dish. Sauces mediocre. Pasta overcooked. Perhaps the kitchen no longer cares. Wine list still good. Used to really like Olivetto, but will not return."

  • "food was good. Waiters were adorable. nice casual spot for some Italian food."

  • "No longer living in the area, but I love this neighborhood place. Food is great and surroundings very pleasant; lively, but subdued enough to hear the conversation. We had the Carpaccio and salads to start, then salmon, veal, lasagne and chicken entrees. All were wonderful. Gelati (pistachio, hazelnut and chocolate) were the final treats. All guests enjoyed the outing. Mille Grazie, Olivetto Ristorante!"

  • "This neighborhood gem is great for a late lunch, happy hour or full-on dining experience with the patio and indoor seating. You won't find any friendlier staff and a passionate owner who strives to please everyone. They make you feel like part of the family. Lasagna rocks, chicken maidera is wonderful, carpaccio fabulous and tiramisou lovely. Try it. You'll like it."

  • "We were looking for an restaurant with easy parking and good food before theater. Olivetto has plenty of parking around. Attentive staff, yummy food, plenty of variety."
    Dined on 10/10/2013
  • "We eat here often and have never been disappointed. If you haven't tried it you are missing a great experience. Small, casual, very good food and service. As for food, if you like pasta and seafood you should try their spaghetti and seafood dish, the very best."
    Dined on 9/12/2013
  • "I chose this restaurant to have dinner with a friend because on a previous night the noise level was so non-existent I knew I"d be able to catch up and have a nice conversation without having to strain to be a part of a conversation. The service did start out quite slow but once we got his attention and let him know we were ready it was steady. Food was excellent."
    Dined on 9/10/2013
  • "If you haven't tried this Italian gem you are definitely missing the boat. It is small, service is great and the food is expertly prepared. We have tried most of the dishes and they are all very good and the wine list (even by the glass) is really good. Very reasonably priced and definitely a local favorite."
