  • "Very good place to have a very fancy dinner with your spouse, or a good dinner with your family (for the same $$$)."

  • "From the warm but not intrusive service to the exquisite food, this place was fantastic. Cannot recommend it highly enough. While it is on the pricey side it is worth every penny. And there are several inexpensive items if you want to enjoy the ambiance and service without 'special occasion' prices. Ask for Jake to wait on you. He is great!!"

  • "The food was outstanding. Drinks were delicious and service was great. The only thing was that I was on a date with my husband and a large group was placed right next to us and they were very loud. There was other options for them. Just would have liked to keep romantic and that kind of changed the atmosphere."

  • "Food was succulent, the service was very good, the atmosphere was comfortable. Fine dining at its finest."

  • "A new owner has not dampened the spirits in this landmark of North Buffalo, perhaps the finest supper club in New York State. Great ambiance, piano music of all genres, a bar scene with lively professionals tending the patrons, mostly all well groomed, fine personal service , valets and a wine list that rivals the great cellars of NYC or Chicago. But still : ITS ALL ABOUT THE FOOD wow, I had a soft shell crab appetizer followed by magret Duck breast, sticky rice and Rosie had Buratta with crispy eggplant appy and lobster and shrimp entree , which was superb. A couple of fantastic desserts, a pot of French press coffee. I can't ever forget these great evenings that we spend here! Not overly pricy either!"

  • "as always - the oysters were so tasty, we ordered a second plate. I also order the garbage salad and split the lobster/shrimp risotto with my friend. Could not even look at the dessert menu but now that I recall, I did have a caramel sundae then went on a diet for a few days!"
    Dined on 6/4/2014
  • "Everything was fabulous! The only criticism was that we were seated next to a larger table of people who were talking loudly."

  • "Oliver's continues it winning half-price on wine, Sunday dinners. Even if you don't drink a lot of wine this still saves one a bundle. The wait staff continues to be very competent and professional. The kitchen very accommodating to vegetarians and other special needs. Just a very comfortable, friendly, and delicious place to be. Never disappointed in all the many years I've stopped for dinner in Buffalo."

  • "I scheduled a business dinner at Olivers (not the first time). The bartender was very attentive and friendly. The dining room was very comfortable and the noise level was low enough that you could have a pleasant business conversation. The food was great! Our server was very attentive, friendly and knowledgable."

  • "Visiting Buffalo from Washington DC, we found Oliver's equal to many of the best in other major cities. Our experience was keyed by the expert, quietly professional service. Our waiter knew the menu and wine list thoroughly including the origins of the high quality meats and fish. He recommended a superb, but well priced wine that complemented our differing entree selections. Though the menu was ambitious, everything was skillfully prepared and satisfying. The traditional decor of a neighborhood restaurant from decades past is comfortable, but not fussy. Highly recommend this establishment. "

  • "We really had a fabulous dinner and an old school (but in a good way) waiter. Everything made from scratch. I had very fresh oysters, a tempura soft-shell crab and a risotto that was full of lobster claw meat, My husband had a frisee salad with apple and other delicious stuff that hit all the flavor notes. He then had a whole branzino. This is not a hip young (maybe hip 50-60 somethings) spot though there were tables of younger couples. Oliver's opened in 1936 and has really never lost its popularity. One caveat - quite expensive."

  • "We loved the truly delicious food that flowed in perfect timing from the kitchen for our group of .... 18!! Perfectly prepared and every person raved about their dish. Service was charming and professional. "

  • "Two features stand out at Oliver's. The staff is incredibly friendly and genuinely appreciate your patronage. The menu choices are unique and very tasty. It was very hard to select an entree because they all looked so good. Everything was prepared exactly as requested and was delicious. The service was perfectly timed - helpful but not pushy. It's a bit high priced but we found the meals were well worth the cost. If you really like exceptional food, this is the place to go."

  • "A truly exceptional dining experience. We loved it!"

  • "Pros: Valet parking, wine menu, Spanish loaf, and desserts. Cons: The food was not good at all. If the Salvatore's can get a score of 90 out of 100, then this restaurant can only get 50. This is a good place for brunch, not for dinner."

  • "I decided to take my mom out for a late mother's day celebration and I knew we both had never been to Oliver's. So I made my reservation online (which I loved!). We were pleasently surprised at the size of the place and we were even more blown away by our service and our food! This place is the whole package if your looking for a special night out. I will be returning to Oliver's again, as will my mom and we are recommending it to everyone!"

  • "Though we've lived in Buffalo for most of our lives, this was both my wife's and my first time at Oliver's. We were looking for a place to celebrate her new job, but also wanted a place in North Buffalo near a fundraiser we attended beforehand. It is easily one of the Top 5 restaurants in Buffalo (and would even match up well with some of the best restaurants in NYC and Boston, where I've also lived). The highlight of the meal was the oysters rockefeller with pork belly--delicious! All of the food tasted fresh and delicious and our server made the experience that much better. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone, especially if they are looking for a place in North Buffalo."

  • "The service was excellent from the friendly bar staff to the lovely waitress who anticipated our every need. The food was very good and everyone was happy with the experience. It is not an inexpensive restaurant but worth the $$$ when you want to be spoiled."

  • "Went to lunch with some friends. Great atmosphere -- a little contemporary, but also quiet and reserved. The burgers and other salads came out great. The beet salad? Well, it came out as a 2" by 6" crescent along one side of an empty entree dish. It looked like a side or a garnish for a missing meal. It tasted great, but it's smaller than the other salads and is only appetizer-sized. Make sure to ask how large any given salad is before ordering. "

  • "Oliver's is a great special occasion restaurant with a menu that ranges from "bar food" selections like steak sandwiches to an exceptional and generous duck breast (my choice) entree. Cannot fault our anniversary dinner in any way."

  • "At this Buffalo location for over 80 years, and under the new ownership of Dave Schutte for almost the last year (first new owner in about 20 years) Oliver's has taken it to the next level. It's still a Buffalo "classic", but the food and service are even better than ever. There's also a fairly new dining room that holds about 8,that is right off the kitchen so diners can see the master chef and his staff at work! There are old stand bys on the menu, like the fantastic " garbage salad",but also new dishes, and new twists on old preparations.Staff is more professional and competent than ever.No request is too small or unimportant for them. Our waitress,Stacie, was perhaps the best I've ever had.Bartender Mike Peden makes best whiskey sour in town!"

  • "We used to dine here frequently when we lived in Buffalo and haven't been back for over 3 years. Everything was as good (if not better) than we remembered. Other reviewers have complained about the prices. These comments must have been from those not experienced with fine dining or have never left the confines of their neighborhood. Our bill for 5 people was $440.00 which included a bottle of wine ($68), 4 cocktails, 2 appetizers, 5 entrees and 2 desserts. Certainly well worth the pice. We will definitely go back the next time we are in town!"

  • "You can eat or you can dine. I've been eating too many 12 minute lunches that they have been just a blur. I want to go back to the lunch where you dine for 2 hours, have a cocktail and let time stand still. On wednesday I went to Olivers and experienced the best 2 hour lunch in years. The food and drink were memorable; from the cocktail to the salad to the steak sandwich. The creme brule and coffee were the fitting topping. The waiter oversaw every detail and left nothing us to do but enjoy ourselves."

  • "Our night at Oliver's was simply luxurious. Our waiter, a true pro, was Charlie, who added so much to our experience, making the night fun. Everything from the bread service to the delicious bread pudding for dessert was excellent. Thank you for a great night! "

  • "Everything was great BUT. Not once, not twice not three times FOUR different staff people while going by my table kicked my chair, never stopping to apologize or recognize their mistake. I told our waitress about it, and also two of the four that kicked my chair, and no one did anything. I was not in a particularly high traffic area. I even pulled my chair in so I was uncomfortably closer to the table to no avail. Were they clumsy, indifferent or so busy they just jostle patrons without apologizing? For me it ruined the occasion as I took my girlfriend and a couple close to us for dinner. Dinner for four with tip was $300.00. We ordered the more expensive entrees and dessert. I still tipped 20% despite the clumsy staff. "

  • "The restaurant business, long dependent on evolving trends and fickle clients, typically results in a high percentage of short-lived establishments. That business truism does NOT refer to Oliver's Restaurant, which for multiple decades, has graced WNY's restaurant scene with consistent recognition for exceptionally fine dining. Oliver's has everything: highly talented chefs, fastidious service, casually elegant ambience, aesthetic decor, comfortable table spacing, full-range wine/bar list, and a convenient location. Our group enjoyed cocktails while mulling over the delectable menu and wine list, finally choosing a bottle of wine to accompany the renown spinach bread, four shared appetizers, and four separate entrees. All was exquisite!"

  • "We had one of the best dining experiences at Olivers last Saturday - love the vibe from the moment you walk in the door - live jazz in the lounge - Louie mixing the best martinis. Our food was amazing - freshest oysters on the half shell along with Olivers version of Rockefeller, best veal saltimbocca; could cut it with a fork! Halibut special was full of flavor - desserts were over the top! Attentive service from Charlie made for a fantastic evening. Thanks to Dave and the entire staff!"

  • "If there were 6 stars, that is what I would award Oliver's Over-All performance. We all dined off the Restaurant Week menu and all of us thought the same thing - exceptional. Creative fare, done well, with exceptional service. The exceptional service should be put in bold letters."
