A word from Oliver & Bonacini Cafe Grill, Bayview Village
We are pleased to announce that renovations of our restaurant are now complete! Join us at our newly refreshed restaurant for lunch, dinner or weekend brunch.

Oliver & Bonacini Café Grill, Bayview Village is the first of O&B's casual dining restaurants created by renowned restaurateurs Peter Oliver and Michael Bonacini. This large urban space feels very downtown despite its North Toronto location. A gleaming open kitchen extends into the airy dining room, featuring washed tin ceilings, leather banquettes and dramatic and distinctive light fixtures. The menu offers something for everyone, including fresh, made-from-scratch soups, salads, sandwiches, pastas and fire-roasted pizzas.

  • "Lunch was edible, but not what it used to be. We had the ahi tuna salad that used to be out of this world. Now it is barely edible. It had a peanut tangy salad dressing and was beautifully displayed. This one was placed on the plate. Tuna had no taste! I would not recommend this to anyone. Coffee was good. Took the waiter a while to offer a warm up. Dessert was fabulous! Carrot cake was as good as it could be. "

  • "I was disappointed that we had to wait for a table despite the fact we had a reservation. Also, the food quality was just o.k. compared to the price and the quantity compared to what I paid was disappointing. I thought $15 for a very small piece of quiche and salad was too expensive. I understand quiche is a light meal, however, I think for that price, they should give you a larger piece. I was still hungry after and had to order dessert. Other than that...the server was very attentive and pleasant and they allowed us to sit and talk without rushing us out the door which was appreciated."

  • "Made dinner reservations for 2. When we arrived, hostess couldn't find our reservation. We were seated and then a few minutes later were asked to move as they table we had been given was reserved. Server was very attentive. We ordered the Sunday Special Roast Beef dinner. The roast beef was very fatty. Garlic mash was cold. Overall the experience was just OK."

  • "The first time we went for brunch, we couldn't get in, because there was no room. The second time we made a reservation, so they were able to find a table. Due to the fact that first impressions count, we did not have a good one. The main reason is because the receptionist (blonde lady) did not receive us well, was quite rude when asked if we can sit in the outside area, and took such a long time to figure out where to seat us. So , the experience left us not feeling very welcomed. Once we were seated, the service was good. The tables are placed very close to each other, so you are almost brushing elbows with the party seated next to you. It is also very loud, so you end up talking loudly as well. It is not an intimate atmosphere."

  • "You have an amazing chef but I realize with every time I've dined there how the service has gotten worse and worse. I'm not sure why there's such a high turnover but it shows in the lack of caring. I can tell when a server genuinely cares about a diner's well being. I very much doubt I'll be back but that's okay, because with the number of times I've been there (5 times in the past year alone) I have yet to be acknowledged that I was a repeat guest, so I know I won't be missed. I just find it surprising that I'm saying this about an Oliver & Bonacini restaurant, considering how much I enjoy their other restaurants in the city."

  • "We've on this location a couple of times and we have always had a great experience. Everyone is always friendly and accommodating and the food is superb. Prices are fair and the beer list fits the criteria. Will come back for sure!!! Special thanks to the server, Kim and the managers!"

  • "I recently took my wife here for our anniversary. The service was great, in fact outstanding!!. The issue is that the food was O.K. but not were it should be . I had the surf in turf and it is advertised as 7 oz but then we are told it is really 8 oz . the fact is that it was probably no more than 5 oz. the lobster macaroni was hot on the top and cold and runny in the middle. The value I received for my money was clearly well below my expectations. I had been to this location many times in the past ,but not recently so I was surprised by the portions. I figured it would have been a sure bet to and the price of your wines!! well above normal in the big city!. I think I will not return_ better value at the KEG"

  • "Super over priced, unimaginative dishes and average service. Everyone in the place is just there to say they spent extra money at a costly restaurant."

  • "Five girlfriends met last week for dinner and we found the restaurant staff were very poite, friendly and knowledgeable. Food was very good - two friends had the fish 'n chips and said it was delicious. I had the pasta special and it was amazing - I am not typically a pasta eater. We were able to chat over dessert and coffee without being rushed out the door. Our waiter was very accommodating. We would definitely return to this restaurant. The mushroom soup is awesome."

  • "Service was excellent. Staff were very attentive without being too overbearing. I don't remember the name of our waiter, but he really made our night. Food was very good, but lacked some of the creativity from previous years or other O&B establishments. Favourite dishes - brown butter calamari and dessert platter. Needs improvement - slightly overdone (dry) pork shoulder and the not-so-imaginative bouillabaisse special . Appetizer menu also needs a bit of a revamp - "asian inspired" but a bit common (Pot Stickers, Samosa). The winter sangria was simply amazing. I hope we can request that cocktail (even if its off menu) in the summer - tasty and refreshing. Please bring back the butternut squash ravioli with truffle oil."

  • "I hosted a Sunday brunch for 4 ladies (ranging in age from 3 to 60+) and as I don't live in the Bayview Village neighbourhood my options felt limited. The service was great (as it always is at O&B restaurants) and our 11 am seating was packed. it is nice to see families, birthday parties, hungover partiers, neighbourhood residents, couples, etc. all out and enjoying this spot. As a downtowner I don't get to this O&B 'outpost' often, but I will definitely recommend it to my friends living in the neighbourhood. Until I am back I will continue enjoying O&B Canteen @ TIFF Bell Lightbox and O&B Grill on Front Street."

  • "We get together at O&B quite often, always nice, food isn't outstanding but pretty good. Amazing service ++++ Would love to see more variety in soups, appetizers, as the menu hasn't changed for years."

  • "My outing to Oliver & Bonacini was delightful. I was able to make a reservation time at the exact time I wanted. I should have been a bit more specific as to where in the location I wanted to have my table. The service was very prompt and efficient. The server was friendly and attentive and the food was very tasty, appealing visually and good value as well."

  • "A bit overrated on the food for the price and certainly on the atmosphere. Found at times I had to yell to be heard - albeit a Friday evening. The restaraunt is a bit over the limit on table density. Our server was excellent in terms of being patient and informative. I noticed many of your patrons look and dress like slobs, but that might be a 'Bayview chic/end of the week' thing. Personally I wouldn't go back, but I would, if names mean anything, happily tell people I've eaten at a Bonacini restaurant."

  • "Good Diversified menu, & friendly, helpful service staff Food was very good, some of our party ordered the special of the day and they quite enjoyed it."

  • "Extrenely noisy. Change in menu does not leave much to selection for those who want mainstream dishes, ie. spinach salads with chicken or a salmon with a salad. Waiter was excellent"

  • "This was my second time at O&B having moved into the neighbourhood recently. I love everything about the food; tastes great and a lovely presentation. The only down side is that it was a little too noisy for conversation within our table."

  • "Baked oyster is cold inside. Surf & Turf is very salty. Can't believe an O&B restaurant could offer food that bad."

  • "A great place to dine! Convenient location, wonderful staff and beautiful meals. We were a group and there were many of those, which included just people socializing as well as families out for a meal together. An all around lovely experience. Highly recommended!"

  • "I made a reservation online for 2, ahead of time. The hostest had scheduled us to sit in the middle of the restaurant, which didn't work well for our business lunch. I asked for a relocation and it was addressed quickly without any pushback (which is a big point of contention for me). Food was wonderful, service was a bit too attentive for the business agenda we were trying to carry out, but that would be a picky criticism."

  • "Service was slow during the lunch hour. Timely service shouldn't be optional especially on a weekday when most are on their lunch hour from work. We waited 30 mins for our food without even an update from our waitress on why the kitchen was so slow. The waitress was also not attentive throughout the dining experience, having checked up on us near the end of the meal only. After sitting with finished plates for 10 minutes, I had to flag her down for the bill. The lunch ended up taking 1 hr 45 mins, much longer than I anticipated especially since my colleagues and I had to return to work for a meeting. I do not recommend going to this restaurant at lunch time on a weekday or any day of the week if you do not have at least 2 hours to spare."

  • "Although the food was excellent and our server pleasant, it took over a half hour to get our food. I was on my lunch hour from work and I was late returning."

  • "Food was ok, nothing worth braging about (4 dishes - salmon, pasta with scallops and shrimp, crab cake and mushroom pizza). We all thought our dishes were ok. Service was very good, friendly, fast and accommodating. Very loud, strange for a Wed evening, a lot of loud talkers, quite a few kids... we moved to a booth and even then it was difficult to hear."

  • "This restaurant is quite noisy, but busy is always good in a restaurant. We had the salmon that was perfectly cooked served on a salad of mixed greens the dish was hearty. The scallop arrabiata hot but not overly spicy. The chicken and waffles which were the tastiest my husband has had, he has been disappointed in other restaurants but took a chance. I had the crab/shrimp cake had a nice crispy outside but tender inside, along with the mushroom soup (very tasty). We also indulged in the dessert tasting of 4 different desserts, all were excellent, and just the right size, a must for dessert lovers."

  • "Our table was not ready when we arrived. We sat at the bar waiting, the bartender was inept, had to keep repeating our orders. The restaurant was extremely busy and extremely noisy. When we were seated we ordered wine to be delivered before we ordered our food and it was not. The entrees were delivered before our guests had finished their appetizers and were sent away to be delivered later. The server said he would tell the manager of our disappointment in service. Nothing happened. The entrees were redelivered and all vegetables were cold. We left without management acknowledging our disappointment and will never return. Lesson learned, a mall restaurant for families and not adults wanting to reconnect and have conversation."

  • "In the past year since the menu was revamped we became regulars thanks to the reasonably priced food that was quite delicious for the most part, but slowly service has been deteriorating, so much so that this last time we vowed never to return. As so many other reviewers have pointed out, this menu is getting stale, and needs a bit of a change-up. What is far worse is the level of service: observing all the other diners, it was clear we were not the only ones who were aghast at the slowness. All I can say is, it's been a long time since I had to wait one hour for the first alcoholic drinks to arrive-- when a half an hour passed without any orders being taken, I was tempted to leave, & had our children not been with us, we would have..."

  • "It was our second time coming here for brunch and this time was better than last time. We had shared a bowl of cream of mushroom (no cream or butter soup) and tuna tartar as an appetizer, the soup was very good and the tuna was not bad either. I had ordered the fried chicken french toast and my bf and friend ordered the brisket hash. The fried chicken french toast was very interesting, very crispy skin and still moist inside! The brisket hash was not too salty and we all agreed that we will recommended all the dishes we had today to our friends. Will be back next time!"

  • "O&B Cafe & Grill is my preferred place for lunch with friends and family. I tend to order the same thing because I love it so much but a lot of the items seem quite worthy to try. Had a great lunch with my daughter this week."

  • "Portion sizes small. Extremely overpriced. How difficult is it to make eggs benedict? Apparently quite- soggy bread (1/2 sized English muffin) with no taste. And for $27?? Never coming back. I was embarrassed that I booked this restaurant for a special occasion for my friend,"

  • "Swordfish - Fish itself is good. The okra is too slim and over cooked some of them. The black stuff (taste pepperish) doesn't go with the fish. Overall rating 50%. Presentation is no good. Shepard's Pie - Mushroom inside is good. Juicy. The minrated minced beef is too much on the taste makes you feel thirsty. I have been to Oliver many times. The choice on the menu is limited. Should try to explore more dishes."

  • "I've been to Oliver and Bonacini before and was quite pleased by my experience. However, this time I was a little disappointed since the food lacked flavour and the service was fairly slow despite the fact the restaurant was not busy. I hope that this was just an anomaly since rather enjoyed my previous visit."

  • "Seats need cushions. Banquete seats are too low for eating at the tables. The sound level is makes it extremely difficult to carry on conversations with out yelling."

  • "An attractive place to sit in a mall and area that are sadly lacking in places to go. The menu tries hard and the food presentation is good - but since diners here don't seem to care much about eating - seem to be happy with place to sit with their friends - the clientele is not demanding. It's always busy, but food is underwhelming. The well known mushroom soup was at room temp, not hot & the fish dish was well prepared with a rather unusual combo of vegetables. A case of trying too hard."

  • "when making a reservation ahead of time, you do not expect to be sat in one of the worst spots. We waited 15 minutes and noone came to serve us water even. We had to go ask the hostess if our server was told they seated us. Someone then came by and we asked to be switched tables, sat and waited again about 15 minutes. Still no one came to even take a drink order. We sat and waited. Finally my boyfriend went to ask the hostess if our table was ready. We then got moved. The service didnt get much better. The best part of the meal was dessert. Our dinners were both appetizer sizes, very small portions and both verrry underseasoned. You cant fool people who actually know how to cook. Would never go back"
