Diner Reviews
  • "I ate here when it first opened, and periodically afterwards, and it was always terrific. Returned for a special birthday dinner after about six years away, and I was blown away. The meze were fantastic-- from simple items like cacik, to complexly flavored Sultan's delight and Vermont quail kebab. Our waiter was wonderful-- she made recommendations, steered us towards the right quantities and best complementary choices. We also had the hangar steak and lamb shawarma entrees. The mix of Turkish and Mediterranean flavors -- from zaatar to labne, was great. And the smoky eggplant puree-- to die for!"

  • "Still one of the best restaurants in the Boston area. A real gem."

  • "Food was very good but service was horrendous. We have been ciming to this restaurant over the years and the food is always very good. However, the service this time was so bad that we doubt we ever will go back."

  • "Oleana is one of the great restaurants in this area and eating outside on their patio for the first time added to the legend. My wife and I shared four mezzes (carrots, olives, octopus, and fried mussels) and one main (monk fish). All were great with the octopus and monk fish at the top of the list. Wine list is interesting and easy to pair."

  • "Arrived restaurant 15 min late for an early dinner reservation at 6:30 pm. Was told that since normally guests are expected to finish their meals in 1 hr 45 min, we would have only 1 h 30 min to finish our dinner as our table was booked for another party at 8:15 pm. Couldn't believe what I heard, as dinner is a leisure fair to enjoy wine, food and conversation with friend, it's not a timed feeding for caged animals, especially for a high end restaurant with such a respectful rating on Zagat. The service was rushed, was asked whether we'd like our food to be boxed when there were plates on the table that haven't even been touched yet. Will not return."

  • "Oleana has been one of my favorite places for special occasions for over 10 years. Dining on the outdoor patio is such a treat as it's so pretty. I was there last week to celebrate an anniversary and the service was very poor. We waited 35 minutes in between ordering two meze selections. That was a long time to wait and we had to continually flag down our server for more wine. On that topic, the wine is pricey and the glasses are filled only a 1/4 full. Overall, I was very disappointed and will rethink where I celebrate milestones after 10 years of frequenting Oleana. The server was not as experienced and enthusiastic as in previous visits."

  • "lemon Chicken was way too salty, my wife couldn't finish it. The sultan's delight was VERY good but at 12$ it was the most MINISCULE piece of meat I have ever seen... 3 good bites at best... At $170 you would think you would leave full, and not wishing you went down the street to Dali's, saved about $40, leave stuffed and fuly satisfied..."

  • "We always goto Oleana for any special occasions. We are vegetarians - and they really have lot of options for us. The service was slightly slow for us this time, compared to the last times we have been. Just an observation, and not a complaint. But overall everything was outstanding."

  • "Fabulous food and charming outdoor garden. Great vegetarian options. It's a neighborhood gem. But definitely reserve ahead of time because it's always crowded!"

  • "...get the Sultan's Delight: such tender beef in a balanced, flavorful marinade. The spinach falafel is terrific too. The turkish-style profiteroles were covered in caramel sauce; a bit too much for me. Needed a good strong coffee to balance the sweetness."

  • "Sat outside and you wouldn't know you're on a busy Cambridge St. Lovely decor. Service was prompt but not overbearing, a tad inexperienced but friend;y and no pretense and the food ranged from good to wonderful. The moussaka, salads...all the meze were really fun. Didn't try any main course. Extensive and interesting wine list to...."

  • "Everything about our evening at Oleana was top notch. We were seated right away and had the option to sit in or outside. The waitperson was knowledgeable, personable and gracious. In fact the entire waitstaff seemed to us to be well trained and highly professional. Both my wife and I had meals that we have described as one of the top 5 meals we've ever enjoyed. I am a vegetarian. I ordered the Vegetable Tasting Menu that was five small courses including dessert. Every course was delicious. My wife had the Lemon Chicken, Za’atar & Turkish Cheese Pancake. It was unlike anything she had tasted before and she loved it. All in all it was a fabulous experience."

  • "This was my third time going to Oleanna. The food was delicious. I had the Duck and for an appetizer, the Spinach Falafel. My wife had Mousaka as an appetizer and scallops for the entree. We were quickly seated. Always make a reservation in advance. The place fills up quickly. I went here on July, 3rd, the day be fore a holiday and it was packed."

  • "Oleana is a fantastic restaurant with a beautiful back garden patio. We opted to share a bunch of different Mezes and had a delicious meal- I'm still thinking about those spinach falafels! We also had the fatoush salad, the sultan's delight, the octopus and the quail kabob- all were amazing. My only issue with the restaurant was all the mezes came out too fast and since the food was so good, it was a bit rushed to eat it while it was hot! We will be back the next time in Boston!"

  • "The restaurant lived up to my expectations. Service was excellent, and explained well about the menu. She was a bit hard to understand the words, I am not streng in Amarican dialekts. Nice atmosfere and no loud music. But why does the aircondition need to be so cold. Wore a jacket over my top, and felt very cold. Tables are very Beautiful, but cold to lean on. • "Disclaimer, I love Oleana as having dined there multiple times over the past few years. However, last night was notable for having service that was much poorer than previous experiences. There wasn't one big incident but rather a culmination that made me feel they were off their game. For example, the pause between being seated, receiving our menus, and having or order taken was very long, our water glassses were never refilled, a dining companion spilled wine and nobody arrived to help clean or offer a replacement glass, and the food took very long to come out. Otherwise, the food is as always delicious and I recommend going but maybe not on a busy night."

  • "Oleana is my favorite place for special occasions. I love the food, but service this past weekend was bad. The folks who greeted us were great and gave us a drink menu while we waited for our table. Then no one took our drink order for a long time, and 10 minutes or so after we ordered we still had no drinks. It wasn't till we were seated that the drinks arrived. We ordered the veggie tasting menu and several additional meze (for two people to share). The first two plates of meze (falafel) showed up exactly an hour after we first sat down at our table. The second showed up half an hour later. After that things got a little faster, but the meal continued to drag, which was a first for me at Oleana. Very disappointing!"

  • "Traveling from Maine for an annual theater weekend, we have tried for several years to get to this acclaimed restaurant. This year, we finally dined at Oleana. It was well worth the wait, as it lived up to everything we had heard! As it was our first time, we declined the beautiful outdoor patio and sat inside to catch the atmosphere. It was quiet, tastefully decorated with Middle Eastern fabrics,a hint of the cuisine that awaited us. And what cuisine! We had a spiced broccoli/cheese appetizer that will make us rethink broccoli forever and lamb shawarma that was exceptional. Combined with an attentive server, it was an experience we will long remember. We will certainly never come to the Boston area without booking Oleana well in advance!"

  • "I went with 5 women and we shared a bunch of small plates. We loved everything! Falafel, warm olives, salad, sultan's delight, moussaka, spinach dip were all terrific. We sat on the patio which is lovely. Great evening. We will go back."

  • "This was our first visit to Oleana. We went with high hopes, but we left wondering if all they hype is something akin to "The Emperor's New Clothes". Our waiter hovered from the moment we arrived, stopping by repeatedly when we had barely sat down and hovering again after we had ordered a bottle of wine--trust me, we're not lingerers. Then insult was added to injury when our entrée took forever to arrive--we didn't complain, and our waiter did apologize, but the irony was not lost on us. Finally, the food was just okay, including a strong dose of sugar in my lamb entrée--is sugar the new cream? What doesn't taste good with a strong dose of sugar in it? The patio is glorious on a nice night; the restaurant felt overcrowded."

  • "This was my first time at Oleana and it certainly lived up to it's reputation. We got (2) small plates and (1) entree and a small birthday dessert for the two of us and it was just the right amount. You must try to spinach falafel when you go there! Also, not sure what the dessert was that they brought out to us - some sort of fried ball with caramel sauce, but I am definitely going to ask for it again next time I go! All-in-all, this was one of the best dining experiences that I've ever had!"

  • "Enjoyed dining on the patio. The service was wonderful. Only regret was that on a cool night they did not light the heating lamps or have enough blankets for everyone. The temperature definitely distracted from the experience. Otherwise terrific."

  • "We made a 5:30 reservation which turned out to be perfect - we got a seat outside on the patio. It was just lovely outside and the food was outstanding. Especially loved the spinach falafel and scallops with spring pea salad. The profiteroles were wonderful but too rich for one person - would have been better to share with a group."

  • "We arrived about 30 minutes early for our reservation, intending to get a drink at the bar before being seated for dinner. We were shown to an outside "holding" area on the side of the patio, where there was a large party taking up most of the space. The were seated on bar stools and drinking beer and wine. We were handed drink menus, but no servers came to take our drink order. We waited about 15 minutes (standing), hovering over the folks dining on the patio. Eventually I went back to the hostess stand to see if I could place our drink order and was directed back outside. The hostess told me she would send someone over to take our order shortly. After a couple more minutes, a host came over and took us directly to our table."

  • "We were visiting from Seattle and a friend recommended Oleana's. What a wonderful place. It was a beautiful night in Boston so we sat on the patio. They have a perfect menu for having dinner with a vegetarian. Both of you get what you want from the exceptional variety of the menu. The service was impeccable and very attentive. I will definitely come back when I'm in Boston next."

  • "The food at Oleana was soooo good. Our group ordered lots of meze plates, each one as delicious as the others. Many of the dishes had familiar ingredients but with a scrumptious twist. It was the spices that made the difference for us. Very thoughtful to have the glossary of terms and the cheerful staff were happy to explain the dish. Definitely try the crudités. Sounds simple but what a great way to serve raw baby veggies: diners dip them in almond butter and then dukkah, a nut, seed and spice blend. Highly recommend!"
