Diner Reviews
  • "Sat outside and you wouldn't know you're on a busy Cambridge St. Lovely decor. Service was prompt but not overbearing, a tad inexperienced but friend;y and no pretense and the food ranged from good to wonderful. The moussaka, salads...all the meze were really fun. Didn't try any main course. Extensive and interesting wine list to...."

  • "Everything about our evening at Oleana was top notch. We were seated right away and had the option to sit in or outside. The waitperson was knowledgeable, personable and gracious. In fact the entire waitstaff seemed to us to be well trained and highly professional. Both my wife and I had meals that we have described as one of the top 5 meals we've ever enjoyed. I am a vegetarian. I ordered the Vegetable Tasting Menu that was five small courses including dessert. Every course was delicious. My wife had the Lemon Chicken, Za’atar & Turkish Cheese Pancake. It was unlike anything she had tasted before and she loved it. All in all it was a fabulous experience."

  • "The food is outstanding, complex and deliciously appealing to the palate. We tried their chef tasting vegeterian menu: fantastic!! Even the garden salad was special! Also had a fish entree: as always spectacular."

  • "This was my third time going to Oleanna. The food was delicious. I had the Duck and for an appetizer, the Spinach Falafel. My wife had Mousaka as an appetizer and scallops for the entree. We were quickly seated. Always make a reservation in advance. The place fills up quickly. I went here on July, 3rd, the day be fore a holiday and it was packed."

  • "The baked Alaska was a hit as was the Sultan's Delight. The fatouche salad was delicious. Shelly is excellent. She makes you feel right at home."

  • "Oleana is a fantastic restaurant with a beautiful back garden patio. We opted to share a bunch of different Mezes and had a delicious meal- I'm still thinking about those spinach falafels! We also had the fatoush salad, the sultan's delight, the octopus and the quail kabob- all were amazing. My only issue with the restaurant was all the mezes came out too fast and since the food was so good, it was a bit rushed to eat it while it was hot! We will be back the next time in Boston!"

  • "Oleana is my favorite place for special occasions. I love the food, but service this past weekend was bad. The folks who greeted us were great and gave us a drink menu while we waited for our table. Then no one took our drink order for a long time, and 10 minutes or so after we ordered we still had no drinks. It wasn't till we were seated that the drinks arrived. We ordered the veggie tasting menu and several additional meze (for two people to share). The first two plates of meze (falafel) showed up exactly an hour after we first sat down at our table. The second showed up half an hour later. After that things got a little faster, but the meal continued to drag, which was a first for me at Oleana. Very disappointing!"

  • "The restaurant lived up to my expectations. Service was excellent, and explained well about the menu. She was a bit hard to understand the words, I am not streng in Amarican dialekts. Nice atmosfere and no loud music. But why does the aircondition need to be so cold. Wore a jacket over my top, and felt very cold. Tables are very Beautiful, but cold to lean on. • "I went with 5 women and we shared a bunch of small plates. We loved everything! Falafel, warm olives, salad, sultan's delight, moussaka, spinach dip were all terrific. We sat on the patio which is lovely. Great evening. We will go back."

  • "Traveling from Maine for an annual theater weekend, we have tried for several years to get to this acclaimed restaurant. This year, we finally dined at Oleana. It was well worth the wait, as it lived up to everything we had heard! As it was our first time, we declined the beautiful outdoor patio and sat inside to catch the atmosphere. It was quiet, tastefully decorated with Middle Eastern fabrics,a hint of the cuisine that awaited us. And what cuisine! We had a spiced broccoli/cheese appetizer that will make us rethink broccoli forever and lamb shawarma that was exceptional. Combined with an attentive server, it was an experience we will long remember. We will certainly never come to the Boston area without booking Oleana well in advance!"

  • "Disclaimer, I love Oleana as having dined there multiple times over the past few years. However, last night was notable for having service that was much poorer than previous experiences. There wasn't one big incident but rather a culmination that made me feel they were off their game. For example, the pause between being seated, receiving our menus, and having or order taken was very long, our water glassses were never refilled, a dining companion spilled wine and nobody arrived to help clean or offer a replacement glass, and the food took very long to come out. Otherwise, the food is as always delicious and I recommend going but maybe not on a busy night."

  • "This was our first visit to Oleana. We went with high hopes, but we left wondering if all they hype is something akin to "The Emperor's New Clothes". Our waiter hovered from the moment we arrived, stopping by repeatedly when we had barely sat down and hovering again after we had ordered a bottle of wine--trust me, we're not lingerers. Then insult was added to injury when our entrée took forever to arrive--we didn't complain, and our waiter did apologize, but the irony was not lost on us. Finally, the food was just okay, including a strong dose of sugar in my lamb entrée--is sugar the new cream? What doesn't taste good with a strong dose of sugar in it? The patio is glorious on a nice night; the restaurant felt overcrowded."

  • "This was my first time at Oleana and it certainly lived up to it's reputation. We got (2) small plates and (1) entree and a small birthday dessert for the two of us and it was just the right amount. You must try to spinach falafel when you go there! Also, not sure what the dessert was that they brought out to us - some sort of fried ball with caramel sauce, but I am definitely going to ask for it again next time I go! All-in-all, this was one of the best dining experiences that I've ever had!"

  • "I don't understand the purpose of making a reservation. It seemed like it wasn't really necessary, especially for patio seating."

  • "Terrific food (duck was scrumptious) some of the portions seemed a little small. Amazing how one infant banging with fork on plate can echo annoyingly."

  • "Enjoyed dining on the patio. The service was wonderful. Only regret was that on a cool night they did not light the heating lamps or have enough blankets for everyone. The temperature definitely distracted from the experience. Otherwise terrific."

  • "We made a 5:30 reservation which turned out to be perfect - we got a seat outside on the patio. It was just lovely outside and the food was outstanding. Especially loved the spinach falafel and scallops with spring pea salad. The profiteroles were wonderful but too rich for one person - would have been better to share with a group."

  • "We arrived about 30 minutes early for our reservation, intending to get a drink at the bar before being seated for dinner. We were shown to an outside "holding" area on the side of the patio, where there was a large party taking up most of the space. The were seated on bar stools and drinking beer and wine. We were handed drink menus, but no servers came to take our drink order. We waited about 15 minutes (standing), hovering over the folks dining on the patio. Eventually I went back to the hostess stand to see if I could place our drink order and was directed back outside. The hostess told me she would send someone over to take our order shortly. After a couple more minutes, a host came over and took us directly to our table."

  • "We were visiting from Seattle and a friend recommended Oleana's. What a wonderful place. It was a beautiful night in Boston so we sat on the patio. They have a perfect menu for having dinner with a vegetarian. Both of you get what you want from the exceptional variety of the menu. The service was impeccable and very attentive. I will definitely come back when I'm in Boston next."

  • "The menu has a big selection on appetizers and small one for entrees so we diced to order only from the appetizers and share. Most were really good some were just okay - we loved the braised tamarind beef, grilled octopus and the fried mussels but did not go crazy for the whipped feta and did not bother finishing the grape leaves lamb "pie". Bread was great. The highlight was the pistachio dessert - well balanced and just the right amount of everything. Will come back for that."

  • "The food at Oleana was soooo good. Our group ordered lots of meze plates, each one as delicious as the others. Many of the dishes had familiar ingredients but with a scrumptious twist. It was the spices that made the difference for us. Very thoughtful to have the glossary of terms and the cheerful staff were happy to explain the dish. Definitely try the crudités. Sounds simple but what a great way to serve raw baby veggies: diners dip them in almond butter and then dukkah, a nut, seed and spice blend. Highly recommend!"

  • "Our sunny, dependable, uber-cheerful server, Shelly, exclaimed that the food she was presenting was going to be "a party in your mouth." She was utterly right! The tastes conjured up by Oleana are extraordinary: yummy, inventive, creative, playful, and completely delicious. Be sure to try the "spinach falafel, tahini sauce, beet yogurt with watercress." It's amazing. Everything is amazing. And it's OK if you don't believe me because then we'll be more likely to get a table the next time we are clamoring for great food."
    Dined on 6/9/2014
  • "I loved Oleana already, but having dined on the patio recently causes me to up their ambience score to match their still-stellar food rating. I love to share a ton of the meze courses for the table and then share desserts - the Baked Alaska AND the Profiteroles are truly UNFORGETABLE - just amazing. Service is well-informed, offers real recommendations, and is very friendly, but the way they fill the patio as soon as the doors open since it can't be reserved seems to result in slammed servers out there who aren't as accessible as I'd prefer them to be when the food is at this very high level. It's worth the effort to get on the patio - it is a stunning space. Now I have been here twice this year - and cannot wait to return again ASAP!!!"

  • "delicious food, professional service, great ambience. you must go there! but book s tablu in advance, it is always full."
    Dined on 6/9/2014
  • "The dishes are incredibly flavorful and visually appealing. They can a be a bit hard to share among more than 4 people, as each person just gets one or two bites. This is probably our favorite restaurant in Boston and very popular, so it can be hard to get a reservation on short notice. Definitely check it out!!!"

  • "We've eaten here on three occasions. The food is wonderful in all ways. The wine recommended by the sommelier was perfect with our meal. Our waitress was pleasant enough but seemed too busy to be attentive (the restaurant wasn't full)."

  • "Here for my fourth time and must say, although the food was good, the service has declined tremendously. Waiting for menus, to order, then 45 min for just the first course. I would have to argue that it WAS one of the best in Boston a year ago, now just another expensive, over-priced, bad service place to eat in Boston. Would suggest trying Sarma, if you want the chef's food, where the service is still good.....for now"

  • "I was seated at the rear of the back porch near the water fountain and garden; so it was quiet and peaceful. Neighboring diners were also quiet. The service was friendly without being intrusive, and the food superb if you like to be a bit adventurous."

  • "After stating our dietary issues and asking many questions, our food came with items that were not o.k. for us and they at first just took the items of concern off our plate, even though they were on top of the food that we could eat. This led to a very uncomfortable meal."

  • "I've been to Oleana twice already and can't wait to go back. The food is delicious and really unique! I brought different friends and family to that place and they all really enjoyed it. I recommend it strongly."
