Oleana is a neighborhood restaurant with a strong focus on flavors and comfort. The cuisine centers on the Arabic influenced foods of the Mediterranean with a strong lean towards Turkish fare. Winter months feature a roaring fireplace and in the warm weather the gorgeous garden is open for dinner.r>

  • "This is the second time I've been to Oleana. For years I referred to Oleana as my favorite restaurant I've never been to, and then I went and was thrilled when it lived up to all the hype. I went back for a second time this past weekend and nothing has changed - it still lives up to all the acclaim. The Sultan's Delight was particularly spectacular this time, and the Baked Alaska was as show stopping as ever. Also, the Sortini sherry cocktail was fantastic."

  • "The space at Oleana is tight and seating is close together, but the lighting and acoustics keep this from being a problem. The service is very professional, friendly but not obtrusive. The food is always good - a great blend of local, fresh ingredients with Mediterranean spices and preparation. I have not made it to the patio seating (it was not open the night I was there), but I hear it is really great."

We asked the waiter for a second order of the hummus and it seems that he forgot about it because it still didn't come out until after our main dish came out. When we asked what happened, he said it was coming and that it took a long time to make... The food is interesting and good (small portions) but the service could use improvement."

  • "Oleana has a fun, eclectic wine list offering value and special-occasion bottles. The menu changes often, and every dish we've tried has been creative, interesting, and most importantly, delicious. Presentations are great, and the staff is always extremely knowledgable about the menu. They know the beverages quite well also, and there's always been someone there to help with tougher, more detailed questions. Seating is just a little bit tight, which is why I gave ambience 4 stars instead of 5, but I'd rather be able to get in than have to make reservations weeks or months ahead of time, and the decor is great. I will say that you should have a reservation, even for weeknights, and you can't usually get one the same day."

  • "Oleana consistently gets very high ratings and is reputed to be one of the best restaurants in the Cambridge area. With these expectations, I was very disappointed with our dining experience. The food was good, but nothing extraordinary. The main courses on the menu are very limited and there was nothing I was excited about, and so we opted to stick with appetizers (meze). With the exception of the moussaka, most things sounded much better then they tasted. Additionally, the tables are so close together that you might was well be seated at a banquet table along with everyone else in the restaurant. This definitely ruined the ambiance. Overall, I would not recommend Oleana. Much better Mediterranean/Miiddle Eastern food can be found nearby."

  • "the only good thing are the meze, appetizers....other than that the entree menu is extremely (that's an understatement) limited....and everything seems to be drowning in soups.....so a crispy duck wasn't crispy after all. at a tab of 250 for four people with not really a lot consumed....the place is definitely not worth the price....sorry guys."

  • "The back dining room was just what we needed on a busy Saturday night. Good noise level, so we could talk and still feel a part of the restaurant. Outstanding items were the chicken (!) and the bread service. Baked Alaska was also amazing. We did not connect with our server, however, the front desk and management staff were terrific."

Quality meats, fish, grains and vegetables are at the helm of this sublime dining experience. After dozens of dinners, I will always return and hope to bring along newbies who have yet to indulge in Ana Sortun's fabulous delights!"

  • "Apps, meal, dessert delicious. (Quail, fava whip, avocado, tuna w/date, bass) Many flavors, ask your server for clarification. One guest has a severe shellfish allergy - make sure it is communicated beyond listing in comments on reservation request because no one was prepared, the meals were held up because the kitchen had to remake the meals because they were unsure that the shell fish allergy meal was prepared with that in mind. And it wasn't communicated well that one of the apps was okay for the shell fish allergy person could share in the other apps. The question of whether the croutons. We're fried in the same oil as the shell dish."

  • "As delicious a Oleana was, a table for 4 can be tight and difficult to navigate. Food was delicious but the waiter forgot one of the appetizers and it never came. It was a birthday celebration and it was memorable but.... Perhaps we should have requested a table in a niche which would have been more comfortable. This restaurant is so popular and is no doubt aided in its popularity by Open Table. But I still love the delicious food that cannot be duplicated anywhere else in the city."

  • "We went on a Mon night and received royal treatment. The host and staff (surprisingly many that served us that night) were very attentative, caring, knowledgeable of the cuisine, wines (which were quite atypical) and even Turkish culture, and worked in orchestrated harmony with each leaving no table/patron wanting (business was bustling even on Mon night). The food was also memorable -creative with dishes that tasted even better than expected. (had octopus empanada, Sultan's delight, bay scallops, dark leafy greens). These meze were ideal, as could share several with widely variable in ingredients. The atmosphere is suitable for a romantic evening, special event or cozy gourmet dinner, but it did not seem a good place for a large group."

  • "Our first time at Oleana, won't be our last. We went on a Monday night, it was busy but not too crowded. Service was fabulous, our waiter Jim was knowledgeable and courteous. I think we had six different people wait on us - serving food, filling water glasses, busing dishes - and all the food was described as it was placed on the table, which was a nice touch. We had a tasting menu and several meze, and while everything was delicious, the chickpea terrine, avocado with dukkah, and warm hummus were our favourites. The goat chop special was hard to eat with fork and knife, but tasty enough to make the effort worthwhile. One of my teas was taken off the check simply because it was not to my taste, lovely gesture."

  • "I have been to this restaurant before and quite enjoyed it previously. Not this time - the service was pretty bad. The waitress was perfectly nice and informative but provided a very inattentive service. even though i had a reservation, my table was not ready for at least 15 minutes (at the same time there were multiple open tables for 2 on the floor). After finally seated, we ordered a bottle of wine but it took 20 minutes for it to be delivered to the table, even though we were sitting in the bar part of the restaurant. In general the timing of food was poor and it felt like the waitress had completely forgotten that we were her table. Food was good as always but the experience had left me and my friend ticked off."

  • "I visited Oleana for the first time with my 2 sisters -- one of whom was visiting from Dublin, Ireland. We wanted to go somewhere special for a treat (especially for the visitor!). Food was superb, wine choices ideal, service very professional/attentive. We want to give a special shout-out to the hostess who was welcoming, friendly, extremely helpful (it was a nasty, nasty night - weatherwise, and she helped us find parking)."

  • "The service at Oleana's is consistently outstanding, It manages to be both professional and friendly. The wait staff can be counted on to make excellent recommendations for wine and to describe dishes accurately. The food is elegantly seasoned with unique Middle Eastern herbs and spices. We had the lemon chicken seasoned with zatar and a Turkish cheese pancake which offered a wonderful combination of tastes and textures. The mezzes are amazing as is the vegetarian tasting menu. Highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "We orders two starters - octopus and the Sultan's Delight (Tamarind beef with Hummus), this came with some lovely warm bread. As a sommelier, I enjoy a large wine list - something Oleana had. Moreover, the dessert wine list was also as comprehensive (a rarity for most establishments). Our entrees were one order of scallops and grilled lamb - both done to perfection - fresh scallops were fresh whilst the lamb was moist and tender. For value, we paid about $50 per person with wine but I'd recommend this to any serious foodie and wine lover. It also works well for families although I doubt anyone would like the trouble. The ambiance is comfortable and not hurried.Seating is close so as to be able to be heard by others."

  • "We had been waiting a long time to eat here, and it did not disappoint. We started with the spicy fideos, which was so yummy, but a rather large portion. The leftovers made for a great breakfast the next morning, with a fried egg on top. I had one of the specials, a fish dish, and I would get it again in a heartbeat. My husband had the lamb, and he really enjoyed it. I could tell from looking at it that it was cooked perfectly. For desert we had the baked alaska. It's not just a fad, it was amazing! The passion fruit caramel really made the dish. Our server was very knowledgeable, and made a great dessert wine suggestion that I was happy with. Only negative: it's a bit cramped inside, and it felt like we kept bumping the table next to ours."

My last few meals have been more bland and disappointing. The last time I went service was extremely poor. We ordered the vegetarian sampling menu. The waitress got so confused that she even cleared our table and silverware when we still needed to get a course."

  • "If nothing else Oleana is a flavor-explosion! Strong in middle-eastern influences, with a helpful glossary, to understand dishes and their components, on the menu, Oleana is not for the timid. Fortunately the mezze (middle-eastern tapas) offerings are varied and extensive and, shareable. Not every dish was outstanding - but every dish was interesting; well worth even those that might not appeal to you to, in the least, sample. Two from our table of four had the chef's vegetarian tasting menu, another tried meat mezze offerings and the fourth had a crispy duck appetizer. The 4 of us shared the tasting menu dessert, very enjoyable. Very varied and interesting wine list. The room is a little cramped for space and it is noisy --"

  • "Awesome food pairings and menu setup. SO and I split an entree and four "mezas" (almost tapas style appetizers) and it was the perfect amount of food. Wonderful flavor profiles of every dish, and the Octopus Empanada was out of this world. Ambiance was nice, cozy, and modern, if not a little too cozy with the closeness of other tables. Overall a fantastic dining experience, that I would highly recommend."

  • "Oleana's food exceeded expectations. Even something as simple as falafel was better than any falafel I've had before. My husband and I split six different meze and one dessert and enjoyed the chance to try a variety of dishes that all had some unusual tasty twist. Service was attentive without being annoying Water glasses always topped off and empty plates removed promptly. My only complaint was the proximity of other tables - a little awkward because you couldn't help but overhear other's conversations."

  • "The food and wait staff were amazing. Three in our party chose the vegetarina sampler. Absoutely delicious. Best meze in town. Very solicitious wait staff. Only problem: we all commented that we were packed into our table so tightly that we felt like we were in the coach section of a cheap airline. There wasn't enough room for the food to be placed on the table, wait staff couldn't reach glasses to fill, constantly getting bumped into. It was such a shame. I booked the reservations 2 months in advance for a special birthday party and it was an uncomfortable dining experience."

I asked if we could order a meza, (small plate) while we contemplated the additional food to order and was told the kitchen prefers to get a full order all at one time. This struck me as opposite of what I thought the ambiance and style of the restaurant was. Perhaps a server in a hurry or if truly that is the mantra of the restaurant, that will weigh on my desicion to return. Food was fantastic."

  • "It is not my first visit to Oleana. Most of all, I like the food, I appreciate the Turkish (and Mediterranean in general) cuisine. This time we have been a little disappointed by the level of noise. Either you have redesigned the room which made it noisier or you are squeezing in a lot more of people. The result is that the restaurant has lost a little bit of its "Special Occasion" credentials, although probably became more vibrant and "younger". The presence of musicians was a great surprise!"

I'd recommend getting small meze plates rather than the means - of 4 of us two went that route and definitely had plenty to eat and loved the opportunity to try different things. Mains were good, but somewhat unsatisfying. Also, save room for profiteroles for dessert! One of the best desserts I've had in Boston."

The food is beautifully prepared, wonderfully interesting flavor combinations & nothing like anything else I've found locally. I never need worry about bringing a friend with dietary restrictions as they are extremely accommodating. Favorite dishes include: Whipped Feta, warm Buttered Hummus, Spicy Fideos, Fried Cauliflower, Spinach Falafel, Crispy Duck & Lemon Chicken. They have Lambrusco by the glass which always makes me happy :)"
