Food was absolutely incredible - in a sea of reasonably priced high quality restos in SF it's great to be pleasantly surprised by a place that is truly a cut above the rest. Great service too.   • "I arrived in San Francisco after a long flight from the East Coast. I searched for a healthy but unique foodie-oriented menu and a table for one. Found this lovely little gem just a 10 minute walk from the Fairmont Hotel. The vegetarian risotto was outstanding and the wine fantastic. A great little unpretentious corner bistro."

  • "I made the unpardonable sin of entering this restaurant with only 2 diners after reserving for 4! This faux pas apparently irked the owner enough that through the entire dining experience he reminded us of our transgression, culminating with seating a another party's unreserved additional diner with his back to us. Not sure about you - but I prefer dining without being able to touch the back of an adjacent diner. The nice waitress helped re seat us but the owner felt it necessary to explain to us why I should accept dining with a stranger essentially on top of my soup - again bringing up my faux pas. The food was good, the waitress was excellent, but woe to you who shows up without your entire party! You will be treated like pond scum."

  • "Olea is always a treat. Small, cozy dining room that is very relaxing with attentive, personable service. Only a few wines, but all are excellent. The food is to die for: simple, elegant, fresh, exquisitely prepared, well-balanced with succulent meat but lots of attention paid to making the vegetables exciting and tasty. They always have at least a couple excellent vegetarian options too. You will fill satisfied, well-nourished and happy when you leave here."

  • "Fantastic food and service. Small fresh menu that changes to include whats in season. Had the scallops over wild rice and mushrooms. Scallops cooked perfectly. Also had polenta with kale sundried tomatoes olive tapenade mushrooms topped with a poached egg- very fresh flavors. Cactus pear sorbet not to be missed-light and not too sweet with the perfect tartness. Would highly recommend giving this hidden gem a try. Hear the brunch is top notch also"

  • "Based on the great reviews that we read, my wife and I went to this restaurant with another couple from out of town. The soup served for the first course had so much black pepper in it, that it was almost inedible. I ordered the duck leg and it was way too salty. The other couple we were with both left half of their entrées on the plate. On the positive side, my wife enjoyed her veal meatball parppardella. After reading the other reviews, we were expecting well prepared food. The meals we were served were very disappointing."

  • "As a long time member of the food scene in SF, I'm disappointed in all the four-star ratings that many of the restaurants are getting on Open Table. But this restaurant actually deserves the 4 stars. Food is excellent. The menu is limited but has comfort food for everyone and very well prepared. Our pork loin was delicious and our friend declared the paparadelle the best she'd ever tasted."

  • "My only reason for recommending this restaurant is that they do have 2 vegetarian options, which given the only 7-8 items on the menu is encouraging. The only salad on the menu is too insignificant to even comment upon. The desserts were very disappointing. Overall, a decent place if you just happen to be in the neighborhood, or if you know the kind owner, but not worth a trip and definitely, not worth the price."

It turned out to be the perfect spot for our party of six. The owner, Philip, was incredibly welcoming and gracious and the whole dining experience was fabulous. Excellent food, wine and service.   • "After reading very fine reviews on Open Table, we gave Olea a try and are SO glad we did! Small, pretty restaurant with open kitchen feels like you're in someone's home. EVERYTHING was expertly prepared and presented with a juicy, fresh, just-picked, healthy deliciousness. Very friendly staff with whom we talked during the meal. Our group of three had soup, salad, scallops and pasta - all wonderful. Small but solid wine list. The surprise restaurant of our visit to San Fran. I wish we had more restaurants like Olea in my neighborhood in L.A."

  • ""I love the cozy and intimate feelings of this place. - like stepping in time in a simple, warm dining room in a friends home. I have been there three times in the last 10 days and every time my experience has been beyond expectation. Try the duck cooked to perfection with delicious greens or the lamb so tender and tasty. If you are a vegetarian, it is also the right place- grains mixed with all sorts of wonders. I want my friends to all know about this Olea restaurant. The menu is thoughtful, creative and unpretentious… quite refreshing compare to so many restaurants in San francisco. Great wines affordable. I just want to go back for more.   • "I was excited to read great reviews for Olea AND they have a vegan and vegetarian entree that's NOT mushroom risotto. Service during dinner was excellent, ambiance was nice and cozy. We ordered the leek soup and also the salad for starters- both were good; soup a tad salty and salad a tad peppery. My non-vegetarian husband ordered the Scallop with chanterelle mushroom risotto (ha!) and I ordered the vegan pasta. The scallop dish, I'm told, was better than my veggie pasta (can't be helped), but not by much. The veggie pasta was not bad, again quite peppery, but nothing to write home about. I give them an A for their effort. Overall, it was a decent experience. I'll give them another chance for brunch next time."

  • "My friend and I had dinner there before going to a concert at the Masonic Center ( walking distance). The food was delicious and quickly brought to the table after we announced we were limited in time. The scallops with chanterelles and ricotto dish was very tasty even for someone like me who typically doesn't like ricotto. The quinoa bowl was also full of various flavors and my friend enjoyed it very much. Overall we had a great time there and we will certainly go back next time we are in the city."

  • "We ate here the night before the Nike Women's Half Marathon. The food was excellent, the wine was great, and it was a fun little neighborhood spot perfect for our casual group. The restaurant manager called to confirm and explained the cancellation policy clearly letting me check with my group before confirming. He asked if we were running and even called to ask if we wanted an earlier reservation when an earlier table opened up! Excellent service! I would highly recommend to friends and I would return on another visit to San Francisco."

  • "Service was very good, food was quite good and reasonably priced. Portions are not too big, not too small.I wished I had a better selection but that's just me. We were a group of 12 and the restaurant is very small but they accommodated us well. They answered all our questions since some of the group members were quite picky. Overall was a very good experience and I would go back anytime. It is an intimate atmosphere, very simple, nothing fancy, fit for a small group getaway or a romantic dinner."

  • "I was staying at the Gateway Holiday Inn for a conference and wanted good food close by. Olea was an unexpected delight! The food was delicious. I had veal meatballs and pappardelle pasta. Every bite was superb. My son had the couscous salad which was full of flavor and not to be missed. He also had pork belly and it was savory, crisp-tender and with the amazing sauce it was a stellar dish. The wine list was impressive, with a great selection by the glass. Service was professional and friendly. The room is small and welcoming. You feel like you have stumbled upon a neighborhood gem. Definitely will return."
