me because I'd be there all the time. I wasn't familiar with Olea but I chose it because it's near the workplace of someone in our party, it has excellent ratings, and the menu looked good. The prices are also very reasonable which was a plus. Everything we ordered was great and we cleaned our plates. The restaurant itself is very quaint. It's a small dining room but with well spaced tables and nice lighting. Since you walk down a few steps to enter, once you're in and at your table you look up at passersby as well as at the cable car on California St. The service was also excellent. Our server was rather James Bond-ian--British (?) accent, tall, beard. Let's just say he's an asset to the restaurant. Anyway--I'd definitely go back.

We are not from San Francisco so used open table to find a nice restaurant out of the hustle of downtown. We chose Olea because of it's great reviews and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious (I had the trout) and the service impeccable, thanks to our lovely English waiter. It was a birthday dinner and it was the perfect place to celebrate.

The food was all tasty. My only complaint was that the scallops were soooo tiny. I got 4, each about the size of an inch in diameter. I am not opposed to small plates, but the menu is limited without many appetizers. There was no suggestion by the waiter that it would not be enough food. I had to go to whole foods after to be full. This all being said the food is good and the prices are reasonable. The scallops just may not be for everyone... However, the quinoa was absolutely delicious and the wine was well priced also.

Olea lives up to its billing as a neighborhood restaurant featuring fresh organic produce. We turned the scallop main course into a great appetizer for three - with a very accommodating staff to do this. The lamb chops were perfectly prepared (ordered and delivered medium rare). Great pappardelle pasta with braised duck and a wonderful house-made tomato sauce. And we discovered a gem of a Pinot Noir in the Roth Estate Sonoma County which came recommended by the staff - another example of Olea's professional team.

Our dinner was outstanding. We shared a wonderful salad which the kitchen was kind enough to divide for us. My friend had the duck breast and I had the scallops. Both were excellent. The wine list was fine and we had a number of craft beers and ciders to choose from. The waitress was helpful in making wine recommendations. Olea will take dinner reservations but unfortunately will not accept brunch reservations. And, at brunch they won't seat you unless your entire party is there--rather annoying when it's a party of 2 and it would be the same size table whether one or 2 persons were to dine.

Olea is arguably the best restaurant in Nob Hill, which says a lot given the vibrancy of the neighborhood. Absolutely amazing for brunch and quite solid for dinner -- it's rare to find any restaurant that can do both so skillfully. It's definitely an intimate, casual but upscale setting. Service is very attentive and friendly. There is absolutely no dish that I've tried (And I've sampled 80% of the menu) that I wouldn't recommend and could be a star dish at any other restaurant.

It took forever to get our food and only two of the dishes came for the four of us so we waited for the other two dishes while the others got cold. Duck was tasty but the plate of food looked really plain despite it costing $20.50. We ordered gelato and sorbet and that took like 20 minutes to come out despite the restaurant being empty. The food tastes fine (nothing you can't make at home) but for how long it took, the plain presentation and high price, I wouldn't recommend this place. At least not for dinner.

I made the unpardonable sin of entering this restaurant with only 2 diners after reserving for 4! This faux pas apparently irked the owner enough that through the entire dining experience he reminded us of our transgression, culminating with seating a another party's unreserved additional diner with his back to us. Not sure about you - but I prefer dining without being able to touch the back of an adjacent diner. The nice waitress helped re seat us but the owner felt it necessary to explain to us why I should accept dining with a stranger essentially on top of my soup - again bringing up my faux pas. The food was good, the waitress was excellent, but woe to you who shows up without your entire party! You will be treated like pond scum.

I arrived in San Francisco after a long flight from the East Coast. I searched for a healthy but unique foodie-oriented menu and a table for one. Found this lovely little gem just a 10 minute walk from the Fairmont Hotel. The vegetarian risotto was outstanding and the wine fantastic. A great little unpretentious corner bistro.

Olea is always a treat. Small, cozy dining room that is very relaxing with attentive, personable service. Only a few wines, but all are excellent. The food is to die for: simple, elegant, fresh, exquisitely prepared, well-balanced with succulent meat but lots of attention paid to making the vegetables exciting and tasty. They always have at least a couple excellent vegetarian options too. You will fill satisfied, well-nourished and happy when you leave here.

Fantastic food and service. Small fresh menu that changes to include whats in season. Had the scallops over wild rice and mushrooms. Scallops cooked perfectly. Also had polenta with kale sundried tomatoes olive tapenade mushrooms topped with a poached egg- very fresh flavors. Cactus pear sorbet not to be missed-light and not too sweet with the perfect tartness. Would highly recommend giving this hidden gem a try. Hear the brunch is top notch also

Based on the great reviews that we read, my wife and I went to this restaurant with another couple from out of town. The soup served for the first course had so much black pepper in it, that it was almost inedible. I ordered the duck leg and it was way too salty. The other couple we were with both left half of their entrées on the plate. On the positive side, my wife enjoyed her veal meatball parppardella. After reading the other reviews, we were expecting well prepared food. The meals we were served were very disappointing.

My only reason for recommending this restaurant is that they do have 2 vegetarian options, which given the only 7-8 items on the menu is encouraging. The only salad on the menu is too insignificant to even comment upon. The desserts were very disappointing. Overall, a decent place if you just happen to be in the neighborhood, or if you know the kind owner, but not worth a trip and definitely, not worth the price.

As a long time member of the food scene in SF, I'm disappointed in all the four-star ratings that many of the restaurants are getting on Open Table. But this restaurant actually deserves the 4 stars. Food is excellent. The menu is limited but has comfort food for everyone and very well prepared. Our pork loin was delicious and our friend declared the paparadelle the best she'd ever tasted.
