The setting is gorgeous. The outside patio looks absolutely gorgeous, even though we sat inside. The food was awesome, serving size was perfect and the menu was all very tempting. The only thing I didn't like was my husband was still eating his meal and all other people's plates were being cleared and we were being asked about dessert. Everything we ordered was absolutely delightful - my husband has been talking about the brioche French toast every day since, and my crab cakes eggs benedict were the best I've ever had. However, there were several missteps - wrong drink delivered, wrong side dish, sauce poured on when requested on side, maple syrup forgotten when asked for it after food was delivered. We just chalked it up to an "off" day for an otherwise kind, attentive server, but it was a little disappointing to have to keep interrupting our gathering with out-of-town family to try to make corrections or ask for things that were already requested. We had a very nice time, The salad was awesome, however my steak was not good-very chewy and difficult to eat, I have been before and it was delicious, so I will be back.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect EveningWe took out-of-town friends to the Old Village Post House on Saturday, May 5 and had a delightful dinner in a lovely atmosphere. The soft shell crab was done to perfection, and the wine selection varied and quite good. The bar tender found Canadian Club at the back of his top shelf, to my great delight. I have a hard time getting it in this area.
The noise level in the main dining room was much too noisy for me to be able to have any conversation with our friends. We moved to the bar, which I prefer anyway, and the noise level was still high, but at more tolerable. We still look forward to our next visit, and feel fortunate to have such a fine restaurant so near at hand.

The ambiance was romantic, but up-to-date...with fresh white bead-board walls, deep chocolate colored ceilings, pretty natural woven hanging light fixtures, and gorgeous floor to ceiling windows which looked out upon a charming, turn-of-the-century streetscape. The food was delicious - I had the vegetable plate, hubby had the flounder, and we shared a chocolate dessert over coffee. We never felt rushed. The service was great. But after enjoying the incredibly fresh and well prepared local seafood fare offered, a love affair with seafood has blossomed, especially with oysters! We celebrated a birthday on a Sunday evening, and it was a busy place. I had the hanger steak which was as tender as butter. Our server was attentive and we had a great time. We raved about the shrimp and grits (best ever, according to our local expert) and I had a hangar steak with a blue chees sauce to die for. Though fully sated, we tried the lemon chess pie and chocolate tart, both of which were over the top wonderful. Either save room for dessert or just go for it! We also had lovely service, very profesional, not overly friendly, but engaging and helpful with recommendations. We're still talking about the entire experience! It was my second time in several years, and I'd go back in a heartbeat!

easy. The atmosphere was great and the soup,
entrees and dessert were all fabulous. Our service was
terrific, albeit a little slow for an 8:30 pm reservation.

A true trip into old low-country South. The service was attentive, but you never felt like they were overbearing, they just appeared whenever needed. Four of us dined and we all had wonderful meals. OVPI was my favorite restaurant in Charleston and we hit several top-rated ones. We called to let the restaurant know of our 15-minute delay and they graciously held our table with no problems on a busy Saturday night. Our server was outstanding and quite knowledgeable about the menu and made nice suggestions. My wife's scallops were excellent and quite large. I had the Hanger Steak which was tasty but disappointingly tough and rubbery. The portion was also rather tiny. Our chocolate torte dessert was quite good and a nice end to what was overall a very pleasant dinner. While my steak was not the best on this particular night, Village Post House is always consistently good and one of our "go-to" restaurants in Mt. Hard to find fault. If you are staying in Charleston and have a car, drive across the bridge to Mt. Pleasant and feel like you are entering a time warp.
