A word from Old Surrey Restaurant
The Old Surrey Restaurant is Surrey’s best well- kept secret. Built in 1918, it was the residence of Lou Jack and his household until it was converted into a restaurant in 1974.

The interior has a crisp, clean aesthetic that is enhanced by hardwood floors and the enlarged photos of historic Surrey that adorn the walls. There are five distinct dining areas on the top floor (including a cozy library) and a banquet facility downstairs. The cuisine is French with a splash of West Coast flare. A treat for new and seasoned guests alike are the signature dishes that are prepared and flambeed tableside.

The restaurant is family owned and operated since 1975. Since 1984 the restaurant has entered into a partnership with the family farm in Ryder Lake overlooking Chilliwack from the nearby mountains. The Old Surrey is well known for its free-range lamb and veal allowing customers to enjoy fresh organic ingredients.

  • "Our 51st anniversary was made more special with the wonderful time we had at the Old Surrey Restaurant. From the moment we arrived , we felt welcome. Our dinner - the 4 course anniversary special - was excellent with wonderful service. We will definitely be returning."

  • "I had heard the establishment had gone downhill but wanted to try anyway...It was a vey slippery slope indeed. The ambience nice but food took and hour and a half to arrive and not one word of apology or a free dessert. When I asked if the food was coming soon(in a polite manner) the server answered with some "attitude" when really I could have been the one to be miffed! When the food arrived halibut too salty could barely taste the coconut sauce and one little potao puff and a few little pieces of carrot and broccoli I...all for an overpriced 27.00. If not for the great company and good wine would be total washout."

  • "I had difficulty using the web site to change my reservation. Very frustating and had the restaurent not meant something special to us we would have gone elsewhere. Not everyone is computer savvy and some like to make reservations the old fashioned way, by phone."

  • "Have been going here for years and sadly may not return . Had the halibut special and must say baby food had more flavour than my dish . It was cooked by the owner , so I can't understand why he didn't taste the sauce before sending it out . No excuse ! It was a special anniversary for us and rather put a damper on our experience . I told our waiter about it and that's about as far as it went . All in all disappointing :("

  • "1st I ordered French onion soup and was brought shrimp bisque;then very quickly I was brought a cold French onion soup which had not much flavor except for almost a curry flavor.Perhaps this was because it was cold!Had Chateau Briand Bouquetiere ,steak was good, but sauce was blan and they also put some kind of white sauce on it I did not care for.Desert was good. All for $180 with 1 beer and 1/2 bottle of wine.A bit pricey."

  • "I loved that the restaurant was not playing loud music with a heavy base - the music was conducive to both fine dining and relaxation. there was a fairly large crowd in the room next to us as they were pretty loud but I gather it was a special occasion and they were happy. I loved the ambience and the fact that not all the servers were under 25. I would definately go back for a special for a special occasion.occasion."

  • "Have been going for years and food/service is always fantastic. This time, for whatever reason, they outdid themselves. All of the dishes were perfect and especially the halibut....outstanding."

  • "It was my first time at Old Surrey and I really enjoyed it. The food, wine and ambience were excellent. Staff were great at checking on us without interupting. The washroom was not to the same style level of the rest of the restuarant. Nothing wrong with the restroom but it pulled me out of the elegance of the rest of the restaurant."

  • "This is a very special restaurant. The filetmignon was out of this world! So juicy and tender! The crabcakes to start were very flavourful! If you want a very special place to celebrate any occasion or to honour someone, this is the place to go."

  • "This restaurant remind me of William Tell in the old days. They do salad and flaming dessert in from of your table. We like their specials. 4 coarse meal for under $40. Their meat is local from their own farm. Service is excellent. The only downsize is parking."

  • "My husband and I are frequent diners here and have never had a bad experience. The service is excellent and they try very hard to cater to all needs. The wine list is very good and the specials bring a nice change to the main menu. I recommend this experience to everyone who wants a very romantic night out. To you men out there take this to heart if you want to impress."

  • "This was our first occasion to visit, and we were pleasantly surprised by the cozy elegant, 'library in a vintage house' feel. We had an excellent server who had many tables but never left us neglected. The breadbasket was basic french loaf, but warm and tasty. We also received a small taster appetizer that were two small crackers with some shrimp and a creamy cheese like mixture. Not memorable, but complimentary and we were starving. We had from scratch caesar salad made table side and it was HUGE. Basically each individual plate held enough for two people easy, and it was delicious. The Chateaubriand Bouquetiere was very good but my husband's was a bit fatty. Nearby diners were relaxed jovial. Overall an excellent experience! Will return."

  • "4 of us went for dinner and had a great time, the food was wonderful and this restaurant is by far our favorite place to eat out. We all had prawns starter, Salad, Steak and Lobster main and dessert. Room for improvement: The lobster tails were so small, my friend commented that he thought it was a large shrimp. We all wanted apple pie and ice cream for dessert, but they ran out and 3 of us had to have different desserts and were disappointed. Because of the higher cost of meals, we hope these minor points will be improved upon in the future."

  • "This was our first time here, and it wont be our last! The food was superb, delicious, and creative. We ordered the 40th Anniversary dinner special and a bottle of Chardonnay as well. Our server was polite, attentive, and had a very good sense of humor. Everything about this place was more than we both expected, we were blown away by the food and hospitality. It was a perfect night, we will definitely recommend this place to our friends and family."

  • "Arrived at 5:30pm on Valentines Day for a romantic dinner with my wife. Since our last visit to Old Surrey many years ago, the interior has been updated/modernized quite nicely. To be fair, on Valentines night, every seat in the restaurant was full; so they were unusually busy that night. The food was perfect (4-course set dinner; we had fillet mignon & lobster, rack of lamb). However, we seemed to have up to 5 different staff members attending our table, all of whom seemed stressed. Our 4-courses were served over 2-1/2 hours, so about 30-45 minutes per course. We were not in a rush, but the other diners in our room were done and gone before we got our dessert. So, while dinner went on a bit too long, we had a very nice evening."

  • "I read a review about Old Surrey a few years ago and hoped to try it out. It took a while but we're really glad we did. We have the four-course special and every course was delicious - shrimps, french onion soup and salad, steak and lobster and apple tart. We'll be back."

  • "I love this place, great food, great waiter/waitress, and very cosy. You can talk to the person sitting across from you with no problem. We had the four course meal that they have going right now. There is always something to choose from on the menu and even a chiefs special. Some of the food is done at your table. I have always has a coffee drink (done at the table) at the end of the night. You always leave feeling satisfied. This time I took a friend for his birthday and his first time. He was very pleased and will definitely go back there again."

  • "we ordered from the 40th anniversary menu. The calamari were very good. The Caesar salad which they make at your table is fun to watch but the serving was way too much and they should have used gruyere instead of emmanthal cheese. It was a little bland. My husband's lamb was overdone - he said it was pre-done and then heated up. We both liked the atmosphere and service but the food lacked the wow factor"

  • "Server pleasant and attentive without hovering. Food presentation very nice and food flavourful. Good choices on the menu and had choice of special for 40 years or regular menu. Chose 40 year menu which gave a good variety for our meal choices. Pleasant evening celebrating a birthday and didn't feel rushed at all. Good experience as always has been when choosing this restaurant!"

  • "We were seated in a very quiet room which was nice. Dinner was very enjoyable and the food and sauces were rich (a bit too rich for our taste) Overall a very nice experience save for a few things. The drink menu is very weighted towards wine and martinis, neither to our taste, yet the only liquor they have is scotch? Would have been nice to get a rum or rye drink. Was a very slow night for them yet 2/3 of the way through our meal a table of 3 was put right next to us. Near the end we were asked if we would like dessert, as both of us were full and not really dessert people we declined. The Maitre'd (owner?) then came over, almost slammed the dessert menu in front of my girl and she felt somewhat forced to have a dessert and coffee drink"

  • "The place is romantic and classy. The decorations are just right. The servers are professional and very welcoming. The food are excellent, where the chef is able to bring out the natural flavor of the food instead of using heavy flavored sauses; the time control of the food is perfect. The portion is bigger than normal classy restaurant but not too big that lose your appetite. The price is very reasonable for all these you are getting. I can tell that the team has given a lot of effort and heart to make this place a wonderful place to be."
