A word from Old Stein Inn
IN 1983, Karl & Ursula Selinger of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, Germany in the Rhineland Pfalz opened The Old Stein Inn to serve the finest German cuisine. They decided to locate in Anne Arundel County just 8 miles south of Annapolis in Edgewater Maryland. The Old Stein has a traditional Biergarten to give neighbors a place to enjoy al fresco dining with friends and family. The ten German taps pour an unparalleled selection of beer. The Old Stein has been featured on "The Best Of Show" on the Food Network and has won multiple awards for the Munster Cheese & Crab Soup and the Apple Cheesecake. The Old Stein is no run-of-the-mill chain restaurant. Diners come from all over the Mid-Atlantic (or right around the corner) to this family-owned, Maryland gem to enjoy fun, food, friends—and, or course, a cold brew in a gemütlichkeit atmosphere. Eins, Zwei, Drei, G"suffa!Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "This is our first time at the Old Stein Inn. My family and I (two adults, two teenagers) enjoyed dinner while Heidi & the Heimat Echo played outside. The menu had a nice selection of German entrees and a few selection for anyone who's not willing to try the German selections. We started with the beer sampler and Wurstplatte. Very good. For entrees we tried the Sampler Platter, Sauerbraten, and a specialty dish that included duck wurst. All meals were delicious! We saved room for the apple cheesecake. Also good. The service was very good. The Old Stein Inn is 45 minutes from our home, but it was worth the drive. We plan on returning next month."

  • "This is a go-to place where we like to go with our friends to have a great time..whether they be foodies or not. There is a wide variety of choices for everyone not only in food but also in a wide range of alcoholics beverages to please almost anyone. Our friends love the surprise of seeing what will come up on their weekend specials. And the experiences has always been so wonderful that several friends from out of town always say sign them up when we ready to go there and they will make the time. We have never had a bad experience in any of the years we have gone their. If you love great German food, beer and a wonderful staff that is attentive to all your needs in a relaxed atmosphere, this place is sure to please!"

  • "We figured it out while we were sitting there, we've been going to Old Stein since 2001. We love the food, the servers take care of you, and mmmmmm the beer. This is one of those places that we just have to go to sometimes. We get the urge for German food and we know where we're going."

  • "Considering this is the only German restaurant we know about near the Annapolis area, we love this place! We don't go often, but when we do, it's always a great time. Outdoor area is great with ample space for your group, food was delicious, and we can't forget our favorite part of the whole things... the entertainment!"

  • "We have always enjoyed the Old Stein Inn and are so pleased that they were able to reopen after the fire a couple of years ago. If you're looking for a nice local German dining experience, this is it! The bier garden in the warmer months is extremely nice."

  • "The food was really good, but the server was excellent. She allowed me to sample a dark beer before I ordered it just to be sure I'd like it. She also offered several great tips on our drinks dinner selections. Though it was a bit cool to sit outside, We had a very nice table overlooking the beer garden. While they have a wonderful selection of German beers, the wine list is a bit limited. However, one doesn't go to a German resturant for their wine selection. We have visited this resturant several times in the past, bringing friends with us and making new friends there; we will continue to dine at the Old Stein Inn whenerver the opportunity arises."

  • "Old Stein Inn has a great selection of beer on tap and in bottles. Their 10th tap is usually a special or seasonal beer. They also offer a light or dark beer sampler. We had the Wurst and Cheese platter and a Pretzel to start. The platter featured 4 different wursts and a variety of cheese cubes. The pretzel is fresh and is complemented with beer cheese, mustard and a bacon dip. We dined on salmon with a blood orange and rosemary butter. It was very good and the chef cooked it to the doneness we prefer.we had sides of red cabbage and spaetzle, both were very good. We dined inside. It has nice ambience and the service was exceptional"

  • "Great place to celebrate the German food lover's birthday. BEWARE OF THE $5.50 extra gravy charge though! That came as a total surprise!!"

  • "This restaurant is a favorite with locals and on weekends when there is live music (no cover) it gets crowded and can be impossible to get in. Booking ahead is highly recommended. Booking through Open Table is easy and better than calling the restaurant directly. We've always been taken directly to our table when we arrive leaving others to wonder why we're so special! Really, who doesn't like to start the night off feeling special and having the wait staff call you by name right off the bat?!"

  • "This was a great German restaurant. I loved the decor - it made me miss Germany. There was a lot of signs, etc, from different parts of Germany, which was fun to see. The staff were super friendly. The food was good. The ambiance was fun. There were a couple big tables and lots of laughter. I enjoyed my dinner here."

  • "Have not had real German food in many, many years. The food and dark beer was excellent and it brought back many memories. The decor reminded me of a restaurant in Germany. I plan on going back with some friends of mine in the near future."

  • "This was our second time at The Old Stein, just as enjoyable as the first; this time with a group of friends whom we had recommended it to. We had the pork jagerschnitzel which was excellent though not on par with the grilled pork chops we had on out first visit. Continuing to work my way down the beer list as well; all have been excellent so far. The wait staff was friendly and attentive, including bringing a coloring book and crayons to our friend's young daughter. I was also happy to see that they didn't automatically add the tip to our bill for a party of eight - I'm sure our waitress was happy as well as we tipped her very well."

  • "What a great place to dine. Great music on the weekend evenings too. The food is all fresh and homemade and super yummy. Even though I'm not a huge meat eater, there was more than enough for me to choose from. I highly recommend it!"

  • "I brought a big group here for a going away party and it worked out perfectly. They have great atmosphere and their service was good considering the large size of our group. The food is authentic German food and they have tons of options. The beer was great too!"

  • "I have traveled to Germany on many occasions while working for the US Army and never had a bad meal there. So I was very excited at the anticipation of having a decent schnitzel; however, I was a bit disappointed. I ordered the veal schnitzel and it was very bland, and the goulash soup I ordered as an appetizer was not very good. My son had the Jager schnitzel and it was better because of the sauce... had a nice flavor. The spatzel was a little bland too. My In-laws had the sauerbraten and brotwurst.. both were pretty good. The beer however, was fabulous! I will try this place again... but will try something else besides the schnitzel."

  • "We recently dined at Old Stein Inn and had a very positive experience. We've been eating here for several years and we've never been disappointed with the food, service, or atmosphere. The live music was fantastic and added a lot to the authentic German experience. Old Stein Inn will remain my family's favorite special night out venue!"

  • "Good German food done right. If you want to experience the next best thing to being there, head out to the Old Stein for a test of southwestern German food. You won't go wrong with any of their selections and the beer assortment is very well done as well."

  • "We have been to Old Stein a few times but the food this time was very disappointing. We invited 2 couples this Friday night hoping to share the great menu we had in the past. There was no music! Waiter was great! Food was tuff and not very flavorful. The sauerkraut recipe seemed to have been changed- it was plain & "out of the can". We normally take an order home but not this time. Even the pretzel was rubbery and seemed microwaved. The red wine list was most disappointing - there was not one German wine listed. We realize after the fire, the Inn changed Chefs along with the menu and pricing. Old Stein owners please note the old menu and flavors are missed! Probably won't bring any friends but may revisit in case this was an off night."

  • "The Old Stein Inn is just about the best German dinning experience you are going to find west of the Rhine river. This is true German food prepared and served in the best German traditions. Oh, and by the way, they have a fantastic selection of German beers on tap and an even wider selection by the bottle; and the bottled beers are just as good as they are in Germany."

  • "Our server was so friendly and patient! When asked, she refreshed our memory on what the different German foods were. We were there to visit as well as eat and she very patiently returned to our table time and again to see if we were ready (usually not) and made sure we had what we needed! The food was just as good and the choices for refreshments is extensive and even tells you what part of Germany it comes from!"

  • "Went for my birthday and every dish we had was delicious, though out of the three; sauerbraten, pork shanks, and jäger schnitzel, the pork was the only one that lacked at all and it was still very good. The sauerbraten and schnitzel could not have beeen better. As always the beer is fantastic,"

  • "This is our go to spot for our birthdays and anniversary. We have been going for 13+ years and we were so glad they came back from the fire. We are always able to relax and just enjoy the great food and drink, we really appreciate the no rush atmosphere. Love the German food and never even looked at the American offerings (but i'm sure they are there). 10 beers on tap will probably meet anyone's taste, but if not they have many bottled beers and wine. Service is always cheerful and welcoming. If you're not sure what to order ask the staff or go with my favorite: Jagerschnitzel Topped with a Jager sauce of oven roasted mushrooms, onions and herbs. DELICIOUS. Oh one more thing, get reservations, you'll be glad you did. Guten Appetit!"

  • "This place has a wonderful selection of German beer. The food was good, but the seating/dining area left a little to be desired. Wait and bar staff are excellent! I am looking forward to the outside tent festivities when they start in the spring. Could remind me of German fests perhaps!"

  • "The Old Stein has great German food ! A real gem. We will be making regular trips! An extensive wine and beer list with some very special selections. It has quickly become a favorite place to dine on our list. Suggest a reservation to be on the safe side."

  • "Excellent authentic Bavarian food. And very good rotating weekend specials that tend to focus on game. Excellent bar with nary a budweiser or coors in sight. All authentic German brew. Ambience is that of a house in Germany long solid wood tables and good low lighting. During summer and fall excellent biergarten with roving musicians compete this experience. Come and realize that German cuisine and beer is more than a bunch of 20 somethings drinking to oblivion in a tent in a field!"

  • "Old Stein is by far my favorite restaraunt, ever. The food is outstanding and the service is flawless. The old German staples are done perfectly, and newer, egional dishes fit right in. The beer selection is the best in the area, Germany's finest is here. You are absolutely missing out if you dont drive down to Edgewater, and try Old Stein!"
