A word from Old Stein Inn
IN 1983, Karl & Ursula Selinger of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, Germany in the Rhineland Pfalz opened The Old Stein Inn to serve the finest German cuisine. They decided to locate in Anne Arundel County just 8 miles south of Annapolis in Edgewater Maryland. The Old Stein has a traditional Biergarten to give neighbors a place to enjoy al fresco dining with friends and family. The ten German taps pour an unparalleled selection of beer. The Old Stein has been featured on "The Best Of Show" on the Food Network and has won multiple awards for the Munster Cheese & Crab Soup and the Apple Cheesecake. The Old Stein is no run-of-the-mill chain restaurant. Diners come from all over the Mid-Atlantic (or right around the corner) to this family-owned, Maryland gem to enjoy fun, food, friends—and, or course, a cold brew in a gemütlichkeit atmosphere. Eins, Zwei, Drei, G"suffa!Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "The seating is awesome there is lots of room, the day we actually went to Old Stein they had an lady playing the accordion which was fun. Our food came out fast and was good - the only "complaint" was we purchased the appetizer platter with tons of meats, spread but there was only literally 4 small pieces of bread to put the meat, cheese, and sauces on (so that made it somewhat wasteful because to eat liverwurst I must have bread LOL). For beverages their beer/wine/liquor/specialty drinks does not disappoint - it has the largest list of German Beers I have seen, and their German Root Beer is an awesome drink. Our waitress was friendly, and in fact the next day I saw her in a grocery store and she came and started chatting with me."

  • "Great food, great bier, shaded al fresco dining on a gorgeous summer evening, and prompt service from very nice people. The caraway-crusted tuna steak was a happy find that played superbly with the authentic German flavors of the accompanying sides. If you can get there, you'll like it."

  • "Once you walk in, you are greeted with a warm welcome. The food is fabulous. You will not walk away from the table hungry!! Great wine list and the appetizers are amazing."

  • "We went for Father's Day and the outdoor dining with accordion player made out night. Food was fabulous, server made great food and drink recommendations, but overall service was good, not great."

  • "Nice place to get a German style meal close with a Spaten Helles on draft close to Annapolis. Menu has basic Schnitzels, Wursts, and Spaetzle plus it is the only place close by where you can get a Schweinshaxe. They also have seasonal specialties."

  • "Authentic German cuisine and beer with some other non-German selections, e.g., watermelon salad with goat cheese and balsamic vinegar (yum!). Great selection of German beer on draft and lots of bottles. Service was friendly and responsive. A roaming accordion player helped add to the ambience. Can't wait to go back."

  • "Only issued I encountered they said they had no outside seating even though I had a reservation.(1:00) They initially told me that all the tables were reserved for 1:30. There were 9 open tables I pressed them and they put us outside. By the time we left there were 8 open tables. .???? The food here is excellent!"

  • "While most everyone else's food was hot, mine was cold. As if it was done and then the others were cook afterward. And getting the food took over 45 minutes - and it was not filled to the brim with customers. This is the first time I've had any issues so I'll mark it up as a bad day....too bad it was for Father's Day......"

  • "Our group of 6 was all hyped up for the once a month pig roast at the OSI. However, it was such a disappointment.....there was NO visible pig roasting EVER during the Sunday afternoon. There was no SCENT of a pig roasting, either.....The menu for the pig roast had ONLY 2 choices: a pulled pork sandwich and a pulled pork dinner. We had been expecting to see a pig roasting on a spit, with a carver serving portions of the pig to whomever wanted special parts/cuts. No such thing!!! THIS WAS NOT A PIG ROAST by any stretch of the imagination! So terribly disappointing - will not go there again. In all fairness to the OSI, the potato pancakes appetizer was very good, and the applesauce tasted homemade. The red cabbage was also decent."

  • "We came to Old Stein Inn to celebrate a friend's birthday and do something different. Two of us love German food, so we picked Old Stein Inn (we hadn't been there in quite a while since it's a bit of a drive for us). The food was excellent and the service was very fast. We each had something different from the menu (one had schnitzel, one had schweinhaxe and I had wursts) and all three of us were very happy with our food. We did not order desserts because we just couldn't eat another bite."

  • "Casual dining with napkins and silverware in the glass jar on the table with a $20-$28 entree. We were seated for 12 minutes without any service until we asked the waitress where is our waitress."

  • "It was a special day for my son as he graduated from the Naval Academy and I wanted to try something different and out of normal food choices. The food was OK...nothing great...expected it to be better but it definitely was not worth the premium price we paid. We will not be going back again for sure. Good German style beer. Great service. Good place to mingle and have a few beers."

  • "We've been going to Old Stein for years. We were very upset when they had their fire a few years back, but were so pleased with the new place. It still has a wonderful German ambience and the food it still great. "

  • "My wife and I had a wonderful experience here on mothers day. We arrived 2 hours early in hopes that we might be seated early. Turns out that general seating is reserved for a brunch. We decided to stay and sample some delicious German beers. The bartender treated us to a few samples and we decided on a couple of tasty tall boys! The two hours flew by and we were quickly seated outside. Long story short, the food was delicious, service top notch and the entertainment was an pleasant unexpected bonus. Highly recommended. We will be back!"

  • "I give the overall experience 4 stars. The staff was super nice. With that said, they do not update their website. The variety of food was great. And the quality of the food was very good. They had a mixture of normal American breakfast staples such as scrabbled eggs, waffles, pancake, bacon, etc. Along with that they had fresh roasted vegetables with a wonderful sauce, fried egg on top of a mini schnitzel, eggs spinach Benedict, etc. They had breads such as scones, pecan sticky bun, chocolate croissants, etc. Overall it was nice meal outside with a beautiful weather. The decoration both inside and outside reminded me of Germany; nicely done."

  • "The dining experience at Old Stein Inn is exceptional. My wife and I have had dinner here more than a handful of times now and it has quickly become one of our most favorite places to go and explore different flavors. There are appetizers that very in style enough that no matter who you are, you will find something that fits your taste buds. Their menu is diverse and full of hidden gems and they offer specials on a regular basis. From Bratwurst to schnitzel, to spaetzle and potato salad; bring your adventourous side, try something new, take a shot.... or just go for the great selection of German beer! Old Stein Inn is a great family restaurant and offers something for everbody to love. "

  • "The Web link to Old Stein Inn's Web page was sent to me by my sister as one of her co-workers really liked the place. We had gone to another very good German restaurant and were wondering if there was another one we could also visit and, as it turns out, Old Stein Inn was just the ticket. So we went there for the first time on Saturday, May 3rd, and we were all really impressed. Simply put, the food was outstanding, the beers were delicious, and the Belgian Waffle dessert was a great choice to cap off the meal. As the review title says, I will be coming back to Old Stein Inn, and that will be sooner than later."

  • "The OSI was great! The food & service was spot on as usual. They have tweaked the kids menu which now offers some nice variety. The only downside of eating in the biergarten on Friday was sitting directly in front of the band, though they were very entertaining. But on a positive note, my kids were being cranky and I couldn't hear them. Eat here, you'll be glad you did. "

  • "Food was great, great choices. A bit out of the way. Parking spots were narrow. Clears out after 8pm. Had a reservation for 7:30pm, did not seat until after that. Not due to the fault of the restaurant. Customers had paid, but not left table. In order to keep noise levels down, they put styrofoam noise reduction panels up. "

  • "Very good German food--Sauerbraten and schnitzel were excellent. Interesting beers. Lively crowded. Pair of accordion players add to the fun ambience. Very casual, no one would ever mistake it for elegant, but fits into this laid back country/beach community. Large outside dining patio. Only complaint would be that there is a charge for extra gravy."

  • "This is one of our favorite places to go for special occasions. The featured German cuisine is wonderful. They also feature a large list of German beers. The only negative comment I have is the cost. The meal I usually order has gone up to $31.00. That's why this is a "special occasion" place for us."

  • "My husband and I enjoyed Easter dinner here with two friends. I know German cuisine and Easter dinner are not often in the same sentence but one member of the party has food allergies that significantly reduce the dining options. It was the first time any of us dined at Old Stein and we were not disappointed. The food and atmosphere are authentic German, which is hard to find. All of us thought our entrees were exceptional. We definitely will be back and highly recommend to others. I rarely award 5 stars but Old Stein deserves it!"

  • "This was the best buffet I have ever had in my life. The Easter brunch buffet on 4/20/14 had everything you can imagine and it was all hot and fresh. Every time I took a bite of something, it was even better than it looked and it looked amazing! So much to choose from and all soooo wonderful. I was full all day long! DELICIOUS!!!"
