Diner Reviews
  • "Food was average at best, not worth the high tab. Oysters from everywhere but the marshes right out front. Oysters Rockefeller tested frozen not fresh, watery liquid on the bottom of the shell"

  • "Beautiful location view spectacular Service great. Food not even warm when it arrived at table except oysters Rockefeller which was very good"

  • "We recently vacationed to Hilton Head and found the Old oyster factory to be the best of our choices for dining. The raw oysters were fresh and the entrees were well presented. Our server was attentive and the view was awesome!!!"

  • "Read the positive reviews and decided to try it... Food was absolutely perfect and im usually a bit of a critic so that's saying something. The waitress was nice and always smiling. Our reservations got us in quickly and the food was the best that I had while staying a few days in Hilton Head."

  • "Party of 10 with reservations, seated quickly and had a very attentive waiter. Two in the party with food allergies. No problems with the gluten free menu, staff was knowledgable @ ready to answer any questions we had about preparation. Wonderful children's menu as well, lots of choices. Food was delicious. The views of the bay/marshlands delightful, making this a great dining experience. Will definitely visit again."

  • "First time visitor to HHI and OOF. While I saw some (-) reviews here, our experience was stellar in every way. Seated immediately at 7:30 for 2, window with a view of marsh. Baked Oysters, then Grouper for me was excellent. Martini was perfect and exactly as ordered. Don't miss the Hushpuppies which you want to eat forever. Dessert was the Choc mousse in a crusty almond shell also great. All this was so good, we ended up back there again 2 days later..."

  • "This island has few places you can eat at with a water view. The views, food & atmosphere were exactly what we wanted. Highly recomed!"

  • "This place was great. We had a small incident with a drink but it was quickly fixed and the manager and sever were both very great about it. Wonderful food and great atmosphere."

  • "We recently dined here with our 16 month old daughter. The view was great, the food was delicious and it was an enjoyable experience. Our server was great and very friendly. The kids menu worked out well as we got the pizza for our daughter and she LOVED the hush puppies, and so did we. It was a huge help that they take reservations. This dinner experience was the best one out of our entire trip. I also noticed that they did a great job accommodating large parties. Did I mention the view was great? Very clean and the food also came out quickly. Would absolutely go back."

  • " Nice place on HHI We were seated in less than 15 minutes after we arrived, which considering the line , was great. People walking in were being given a wait time of 90 minutes. The food is good. The view is great. Reservations make it easy to get a table !"

  • "We have always enjoyed dinner at Old Oyster Factory. Even though it is a large and crowded restaurant, the service and food are always great. We were seated at a corner window and had a great view of the water, marsh, kayakers and boats."

  • "The restaurant has incredible views. The service was a little hurried. The restaurant was very crowded - but they accept reservations which I highly recommend. They use text to let you know when your table is ready. Inside the restaurant was uncomfortably hot. We were jealous of the people enjoying the beautiful outdoor seating who were able to enjoy the breeze over the water. The food was pretty good, especially the specials like swordfish and tilapia which stood out above the low country boil and fried platters. They have an outdoor bar with juggling (and juggling lessons) which the children enjoyed while we waited until our reservation time. Live music as well with room for people to dance. Lively family friendly bar scene."

  • "Seafood fare is very good. Our server's recommendations were right on; however, our server was borderline rude, and seemed to take it personally when we did not order all of her recommendations."

  • "Food was great! Beautiful views, music playing outside. Great place to go with the whole family!"

  • "Quite a few families with kids - especially at the early dinner hour. Not great for couples looking for a night out with some relative peace and quiet. The scallops were delicious, the hash brown-like potato coating on the grouper too heavy. Good local craft beer. Service was very good. Pricey given the lack of ambiance and hit and miss on food."

  • "Server was attentive and knowledgable. There is a great deck over looking the marsh...so lovely! After booking our reservation(party of 8) On open table, I called the restaurant and asked if we could have a window seat and they were very courteous and provided it! Perfect place for our family meal before departing hilton Head!"

  • "Despite the 4th July crowd they handled our party efficiently. Everyone had a good time and the food was great despite the huge volumes they had to handle. In recent months this restaurant has really lifted it's game and gone from a tired old tourist trap to a local favourite."

  • "My husband and I have been coming for long weekends at Hilton Head for years. Each time we come, we never skip Old Oyster Factory. Our favorite item on the menu is the Chilled seafood Platter. While it is an appetizer, it is huge and offers Lobster, shrimp, raw oysters, salmon, crab legs and clams, add 2 salads and their delicious hush puppies, you will have a meal fit for a king and queen..."

  • "Visited here on Sat 7/5/14. We were late for our reservation and it was very busy, but the restaurant was still able to accommodate us. I had the clams appetizer and the spinach salad but too many mushrooms, but it was still good. I love clams so I've never had a bad clam in my life! Hubby had surf turf. He said his steak was good, not great but good. His scallops were really good. Our son had the pasta and shrimp. But those Hush puppies! OMG. Reminded me of how my grand mother used to make them. Excellent service. Overall a great restaurant to visit if you're in the Hilton Head area."

  • "We've been dining at the Old Oyster Factory for over 20 years. Each time the experience exceeds what we've come to expect. We try the traditional favorites like the gumbo and the crab cakes. We also try something new. For me it was the seafood medley. The waitstaff is always friendly and knowledgeable. Strongly recommend the restaurant but be sure to make a reservation!!"

  • "Although the food is exceptional and the views are a must-see, we were sat in a back room with a table of 10 loud children. We had two children with us that even commented on how loud the group beside us was. The experience totally ruined our dining experience. I highly recommend going there but suggest you ask for water views so you don't have the same experience."

  • "We made a reservation for 4 for dinner at 6:15. We ended up waiting an additional 30 minutes because they were so busy. No problem though...there was live music outside and with that view I was happy to wait. When we were seated we sat very close to the entrance. We asked for another table (there was an empty on next to us) and was told that it was for a party of 6. However a few moments later they sat a family if 3 there. Since it was so busy people were standing over us and behind us as we ate. I complained, the people moved, only more people filed in and stood in the dining room less than a foot from our table. After complaining and still no results I was a little ticked. We spent @100.00 and I can't really say it was worth it."

  • "In town on vacation and was referred by a friend to try Oyster House. I never had oysters so I tried the Seafood Medley and did not enjoy it at all. I might try it again and order another dish, though."

  • "The food was wonderful, the service with Chloe excellent and the view out of this world. We will return when we visit SC!"

  • "This is becoming our go-to place for our last night on HHI. The service was good even though the restaurant was very, very busy. Love their hushpuppies! We both had seafood. The Seafood Pasta was nice with lots of shrimp. The daily special featured a local catch with scallops and shrimp. The scallops were a tad overcooked. It can be hard to get that balance of tender and done. We will definitely be back. And booking with Open Table has always allowed us to be seated immediately, even when others are waiting."

  • "Built on an historic oyster canning site overlooking the beauty of the bay. Erin served us with A+ Service. Greeting with hush puppies set the mood in the Low Country. Clam chowder was excellent and fried fish platters were very good. Definitely a place to visit. Casual, yet warm environment."

  • "This has been a favorite in Hilton Head for years. Our visit on June 29 will likely be our last as the food was nothing special and the service was terrible."
    Dined on 6/29/2014
  • "Our food was terrible. Scallops were over cooked and beer on the back deck was warm. This place would do better with a different kitchen staff."
