Diner Reviews
  • "Had the buffet. Lots of food which looked nice but it was very mediocre, at best. Thank goodness, we sat in the Garden Room (pretty view) because otherwise very dark and gloomy. Very slow to remove used plates and had to ask for coffee refills. Staff was pleasant, just inefficient. No one in our party would return as there are many much better places to choose to go. Disappointing!"

  • "Always reliable for both food, ambiance, and service. Lots of selection and pleasant surroundings."

  • "We were not offered regular menus, only a prix-fixe menu. This is understandable since we were dining as a group (12), but I would have expected them to at least have offered. Furthermore, our waiter did not even seem to know about any items on the menu when we asked, nor did he bother to ask a superior for more information. He also didn't have anyone helping him carry out the food from the kitchen, so everyone got their meal at drastically different times. The restaurant was also way too dark, and to top it off, the restaurant double-charged us for the deposit required to hold a reservation. For such a fancy restaurant I would have expected much, much more from the service department. The food was pretty good, which was the saving factor."

  • "We organised a group expecting Summerlicious but apparently that is not available on a Sunday night. The restaurant were quite gracious about it and we were given a discount on the buffet. The buffet was very generous and a great selection of food so we did not particularly miss out. The atmosphere is nice at The Old Mill and all of our group mentioned being impressed."

  • "we made reservations for the old mill and we decided to introduce our friend to this experience....firstly the ambience is beyon and our friend could not help commenting on this numberous times....secondly i happen to love a buffet since it introduces me to foods that i may not know and it allows me to have a taste....the old mill fullfilled all of that and best of all our friend loved it and of course the service was first class...thank you"

  • "The Old Mill Restaurant has wonderful food, great service and terrific ambience. From inside or out, the view is so pretty. The Summerlicious menu gave enough choices for all kinds of foodies. The appetizers and entres were delicious. The desserts were disappointing. The millefeuille eas definitely not a millefeuille as it should be. It was dry and tasteless. The chocolate brownie was better but also a bit dry and not wonderful. The noise level was low so you can relax and chat. The service, however, was impeccable. Our overall dining experience was excellent."

  • "We always enjoy the buffet lunch! What a great way to start off the summer."

  • "Overall the dinner was good. very nice variety of cold salads and appetizers along with a lovely cheese cracker station. The assortment of hot buffet items were well thought but I did find that many of the side dishes - roasted red potatos and steamed vegtables were cold and had to be turned to find hot ones. There was only 1 poultry dish (a bbq chicken) and the carving station was lamb and a very rare prime rib. It would have been nice to have a turkey or a carved chicken. Pop was very expensive at almost $3 dollars per glass. Coffee was good as per my 2 other guests but the orange pek. tea was horrible (Mother parkers). At the price charged $37/pp I think they should move up to a Tetley or Red Rose. Desserts were overall average."

  • "We took my son and his girlfriend for the Sunday supper buffet. We enjoyed the Easter buffet many years ago and thought it would be proper to celebrate my son's university graduation. We all had an enjoyable evening."

  • "I often go there for afternoon tea or lunch. Waitress was very nice cheerfull and smailing all the time. but busboy looked so unhappy and makes us sad. Food was very nice."

  • "excellent selection...take a good look before you fill your plate. Roast piece was a little tough in my opinion which could be improved. Everything else was excellent."

  • "I booked through OpenTable. I was to treat 2 of my friends to Tea at the Old Mill. Both were turning 50 and it was a special day. NOT TO BE. When checking in for reservations I was told that there would A. be no tea for us and B. we were to sit for lunch instead. totally not what I wanted for my friends birthdays. Then when trying to get answers, was met with an argumentitive front staff and that there would be no tea for us. DISAPPOINTED"

  • "The food is never the star at the Old Mill, but the setting is quite lovely."

  • "Beautiful historic surroundings are perfectly paired with the decor, but the sunday dinner buffet provides a less than romantic setting. I would recommend going during the week for a more intimate experience, although the buffet experience was delicious if limited in its information for dietary concerns"

  • "We have visited before, but this time reserved for a group of 15. Reservations were made for 5:30pm and we were not seated until 6pm (they were still cleaning up from afternoon tea service). Were not too happy with that. The buffet was very good. Table service was slow however and our server lacked in customer service skills. Would not come with a large group again."

  • "Good food and service. Car parking was a bit of a problem, with all the construction around the parking lot and the number of weddings on a Saturday evening in June."

  • "What a great event. Great food and fantastic service! Nice to get out with your baby and have a civilized lunch and not worry about if your baby is bothering anyone. Fantastic time! o much food! Highly recommend this event. "

  • "I attended Sunday dinner buffet at the Old Mill with another friend and I must admit that we were terribly disappointed. Very limited options and very little vegetarian options, simply a ratatouille that was drowning in oil!!! The BASA was terribly under-cooked and the spinach in the tortellini dish was rather unappetizing to say the least!! I have been to the Old Mill on several occasions and I must admit that the quality of food has certainly changed from my previous experiences. There is alot of competition in TO, being a FOOD and WINE city, therefore my advice would be that the OLD MILL step it up in order to keep loyal customers like myself coming back!!!"

  • "I found the entrance tacky and neglected. Chipped paint on door jams, and the floor was dirty. Very difficult for anyone with a disability. Poor first impression. The food was excellent, the service, nor so much."

  • "The Sunday Brunch at the Old Mill has been a long time favourite of my families. We go once a year for a special occasion like a birthday. This year the place was packed, our waiter was over worked and therefore our service suffered. We needed to ask for coffee and water multiple times before we'd get some because he kept forgetting and getting busy with other tables. The other thing was for the past 15 years we've been going to this brunch because it serves lobster. Our family is from Nova Scotia so we value the lobster we usually enjoy at the brunch. This year there was no lobster! This was awful to find out once we got there as it was a HUGE reason we go to the Old Mill and we had been looking forward to it for weeks. "

  • "This is a great value buffet if you dine Monday and Tuesday when the special pricing exists. It's still good value the rest of the week with a terrific selection of salads, appetizers, hot items and desserts. Would have rated it 5 stars if the wines weren't so pricey."

  • "The restaurant was very nice and the food and selection fantastic. Although minimal, paying for parking when you've invited a group of people was annoying. Other than that, it's a great experience."

  • "A quiet celebration for a milestone for our 17 year old daughter was very special. The service was spectacular and the food delicious! The flowers that I had ordered were already on the table and special attention was directed to her. Thank you! "

  • "I was very disappointed with the high tea at Old Mill. The service wasn't great, I pre ordered a vegetarian option when we got there I notified the waiter, but they still brought the non veg out. The sandwich selection was disappointing, the scones were good but small. The desserts just sucked! I have never been to such a chintzy high tea. The Secret Garden in Vancouver charges $28 and it was awesome in all aspects. Don't waste your money on this place. The King Edward is way better and worth the extra $10."

  • "We had a lunch buffet recently and the food is above average for a buffet we would certainly go back. The price is within reasons for what is available. "

  • "We stayed overnight at the old mill and weren't in the mood to travel far for dinner as there aren't many comparable walkable options. I had the braised beef rib, which was good, but nothing amazing and my partner had the halibut, which was overcooked and dry. We also split 3 sides, scalloped potatoes, edamame succotash, and brussels sprouts with bacon, these were all tasty, but again nothing special. Bottle of Red was priced at the standard 300% markup, was nice to be able to bring the rest of the bottle up to our room."

  • "The name gives aura of grandeur, notoriety, authenticity and excellence. I've been intending to go take my family now for years and I finally did for Mother's Day. I showed up couple minutes early but was barely given eye contact by the cash attendant nor a warm welcome nor greeting. The main waitress was wonderful. The food was uninspired. In keeping with the times they oddly enought offered little in what I would imagine as "Old English". Thought that querious. Bread was not warm. Serving dishes were modern which clashed with ambiance and surroundings. Overall a 3/5. Just Meh. Could be so much more. Likely would never return considering the options available to me in TO. "

  • "We wanted to try out the Old Mill Toronto and give it a chance. We have been to numerous weddings at the Old Mill. We wanted to see if the restaurant would be different. The menu selection was good. When we received our meals, it was highly disappointing. I ordered Soba noodles and my wife ordered the halibut. Both meals looked identical because they both used the same sides. The halibut was ruined with the over butter flavour. The soba noodles was not tasty. We also had the sweet potato soup which was good. The calamari appetizer was half raw and had no taste. If the service could make up for the food. We arrived and the hostess looked like she had a very long time and our reservation was for lunch! "

  • "We had wonderful weather for our table in the Terrace Room. Food was varied and delicious. Our group especially liked the variety in the desserts. Our servers were very attentive to our needs. We were doing a lot of reminiscing and they were careful not to intrude."

  • "First time at this location...it was our mom's birthday. The location is great and easy to get to. We went for lunch, but there wasn't a lot to choose from on the menu. There was only one other table being used at that time...the place was pretty dead. We did feel a bit rushed as the servers where cleaning up around us as if they were closing the restaurant soon. But the wait staff was very courteous. The only thing that really stands out for me was that it was so dark. The lighting above our table was terrible as I could barely see the menu and it was daytime!"

  • "Put in a corner for two when many tables for 4 were available. Right next to a walker and two elderly ladies at a table for 4. It was an executive dinner. Had to get waiter to wedge the table to keep it flat - not enough room for food and wine. Lovely food - tenderloin was perfect. "

  • "The Old Mill restaurant was a 85th birthday celebration so the location served it purpose. We were a family of 10 so our meal was slow and we were told that the stove was not big enough to have all our "sides" and main dishes come at the same time? Would not rush back but B-Girl live2very happy. "

  • "On April 23rd @ 7:00 My wife and I went there to celebrate her birthday. In the reservation request form I filled out a detailed description of who my wife is (author of the books the Murdoch Mysteries tv series is based on) and that we were especially coming for her birthday. When we arrived the head waiter was not interested in whether we had a reservation, did not offer to take our coats and suggested we sling them over a chair, and seemed completely indifferent. In the back of my mind I had hoped that by reading the reservation form online that you requested I fill out, there might have been at least a token acknowledgement of Maureen's birthday. The service was pathetic, the bill was high, and we would not recommend it to anyone. "
