Being familiar with The Boar's Head and also having reviewed their website, my husband and I knew of the 'attire' requirement. Men being required to wear a tie and jacket (or at least a sportcoat). We had a lovely dinner, but were quite disappointed to see several dinner parties dressed in jeans, hoodies, LL Bean boots (not laced or tied), sneakers, shirts untucked etc, looking rather sloppy. Both of us have no problem at all with 'dressing up' for dinner as was evident from a few other quests. It seems that if The Boar's Head requests a dress code for the dining room that it would be enforced by making sure that when potential guests make a reservation that this information is conveyed to them.

I have eaten a mid-week lunch buffet at the Mill Room and of course the quality and quantity of food is marvelous. The Sunday Bruch was a busy time, but not overly crowded and our group of 4 could have walked in and gotten a table with no wait; however, we had reservations. Opentable was very convenient to use. A few particulars with our meal that could be improved: Offer a menu with pricing. Our waiter assumed thetas what we all wanted. I may not have ordered the buffet if I had known how pricy it was- my bill for 1 was over $50 with tip for the buffet and 1 mimosa. Thats a bit much. We never saw our waiter after ordering, we had to flag down passing by waitstaff for coffee...and yet a different waiter brought our bills...So service could be bait more personal. But, our meal was very good and the ambience is warm and cheerful.

We always enjoy brunch at the Old Mill Room. Food is typical brunch fare with waffle and omelet station. Service this past visit spotty, had to ask for refills on drinks and coffee each time. Server didn't see to happy to be there. The one thing I continue not to like is that around 11 am the staff tells you that they are switching over the lunch and half the warmers are for that and if you take food from those warmers it will cost you $34 or something like that....not very classy for such a classy place. Basically hands off! Which isn't very warm or inviting in such a warm and inviting atmosphere. They should put signs or something instead of staff lecturing you about their methodology of serving the next group of diners. We will be back due to the proximity to UVA and also the lovely atmosphere at The Boars Head however they do need to amp up their level of service and fix the issue with the meal time switchover.

My wife and I used to visit Charlottesville twenty years ago, and we stayed at the Inn many times. Recently we had occaision to visit friends, so we wanted to take them to the Old Mill for dinner. Food was excellent, as was the service... just as we remembered. Look forward to our next opportunity.

Great variety and delicious food on the lunch buffet. Food could have been warmer. Food for every type of eater. The bread pudding with anglaise sauce is a must try! Pricey but ok for a special outing. The sceenery inside and out instantly relaxes you. Highly recommend the total experience and will go again.

We celebrated a special milestone in our lives and chose Boar's Head. We were thrilled with the personal service and attention to detail of all the attendants. The food was outstanding - well prepared and excellent flavor in each dish. Every dish had an exquisite presentation but what made the entire evening memorable was the staff who treated us like family. It's so heart-warming to be treated so well and feel like family. Thank you for making Boar's Head our special place to celebrate life!

The Sunday brunch has many good foods to pick from: omelets made to order, ham, grits, etc., as well as a broad selection of desserts. Unfortunately, the food tends to be overly salted, and some of it had been sitting under heat lamps too long.

We had the lunch buffet and thoroughly enjoyed the selections, which included salmon, beef and chicken for entrees, roasted cauliflower/broccoli and potatoes for sides, a wide variety of salads (green bean, corn, cole slaw), deviled eggs, and dessert (chocolate cupcakes, a berry compote, and creme brulee). The atmosphere was elegant and our servers were very attentive. We will definitely return!

Perhaps chalk it up to UVA Homecoming weekend weariness, but our Sunday afternoon lunch was nowhere near the quality of past years. Food offerings were tepid, bland, uninspired. No veggie choices except ones smothered in bread crumbs or coated in cream sauce. Nothing really 'fresh'. Disappointing. Of course, the bread pudding is always a stand-out. Yet the cost of Sunday Brunch is not reflected in the product. May be paying for the location, ambience. Yet, the noise level was so bad, we could not have a table discussion.

We were in town for a meeting and wanted a place to visit with friends. Brunch at the Boars Head Inn was perfect. It was quiet enough for good conversation. The Old Mill Room was traditional without being stuffy. The service was unhurried. It was attentive when it needed to be and otherwise they left us alone. There was tremendous variety in the food offered so everyone found much to enjoy. There were five of us and we all tried something different. However, the biscuits and the chocolate fudge brownies were appreciated by all of us.

The food was delicious, but the service was outstanding. Our waitress remembered us from the night before in the other restaurant and asked the appropriate questions and said the right things. She could not have been more attentive, professional or personable. I ordered the filet, medium. When it came out she was not satisfied with the temperature of the meat and sent it back before it ever got to the table. She told me what she had done and in several minutes a new plate arrived. It was delicious amd you did not need a steak knife to cut it. I would definitely visit again.

Great location. Beautiful Inn with wonderful old Mill reconstructed on the property. The food was good, but arrived lukewarm. My wife ordered a filet medium well and it was very well done instead. The wait staff was pleasant enough, but not terribly attentive. For the cost of the restaurant it should have been vastly better. We enjoyed ourselves, but probably would choose something else next time.

Make no bones about it; this is a good restaurant. It is expensive though, and you can probably do as well at less money. We were visiting from Southern California and a friend recommended the Old Mill Room. great suggestion. First of all the Manager and Staff really care about your dining experience. our server, Douglas, was amazing. Southern hospitality lives here that's for sure. My wife has Salmon over Lobster risotto and it was excellent. I had the duck breast and it was equally superb. We shared an appetizer and split the dinner salad, a unique take on a wedge--which was yummy. I suggest not splitting as neither the appetizer or salad is overly huge. Great wine list, historic room too Just a great dining experience.

A delicious buffet lunch, with ample selections, amidst a relaxed, but elegant backdrop. The service was excellent, with all needs anticipated and delivered with practiced efficiency and warmth. Highlights from the buffet: interesting and varied selections in cold salads (potato, pasta, green, fruit, antipasta); fabulous spicy peanut soup. Good selection of entrees (though the fish was a bit overdone) and a satisfying array of desserts from creme brule to apple cobbler to bread pudding with creme anglais.

We were greeted by a friendly staff who realized that we were visiting our daughter and had some catching up to do. The waitstaff recognized this and the pace of dinner was set - totally un-rushed and relaxed. The dining room was large; but, very quiet. Tables were very well spaced; so, it was perfect for soft conversation. The Pan Seared Cajun Spiced Swordfish was perfectly cooked and wonderfully seasoned. A Filet Of Beef was done exactly as ordered and a Braised Lamb Shank - fall off the bone tender. Good wine, excellent coffee and magnificent, yet unobtrusive service, rounded out a wonderful night. Will I return again? Absolutely! I may even stay at the Boar's Head - if only to be closer.

The service is impeccable, but the room was extremely warm and uncomfortable. The setting was very dark. The food was very good but I'm not sure that I would pay that much for a salmon dish again.my husbands fillet was ordered medium but came to the table extremely rare. The appetizer was delicious as was the complementary soup. Again, the service was outstanding. Nancy did a great job. She even brought us complementary chocolates and champagne for our anniversary. We are in our mid 50s but found the place to be a little bit stuffy and overrated.

We had a group of five. We made our reservations online and we seated right away. The staff at the hotel and the restaurant were excellent. Two of our group had the crab cake and really didn't eat it due to too much filler. The salmon, chicken and trout were good as well as the desserts. Our waitress, Leah, exceptional service, took the crab cakes off the price. I would come back.

Service was impeccable. Menu offered varied choices with southern gourmet twists. Watermelon salad and dinner salad were very good. Final entree choice preparation just missed the mark, however. Trout served skin-side up with the sauce on top which made skin removal difficult. Pork tenderloin was merely ok in its presentation and flavor. Desserts had no chocolate offering.

I stayed at the Boar's Head for a business meeting and wound up having dinner in the Old Mill Room that night. The three course menu was superb. The biggest challenge was picking from the enticing entree selection. The service was very attentive but not smothering. Eating alone that evening, the three courses, two glasses of wine, and a brandy after dinner came to $109. But it was definitely worth every penny.

We've been to the Old Mill Room numerous times over the 19 years we've lived in the greater Charlottesville, VA area so we've had the opportunity to try a variety of menu options. The Lobster Bisque was phenomenal as usual. I decided to try the Anise "scented" scallops with toasted quinoa and basil-marinated grapefruit salad and lobster oil from the "beginnings" selections. "Scented" was not quite the word I would use as the anise was very heavy and overpowered my palate and everything else on the dish. My wife had the Herbed Pork Berkshire Tenderloin which was underdone in spots so we had to send it back to get it cooked more to her liking (since they did not ask beforehand). It was a good dinner but not necessarily great.
