We have been to the Old Lyme Inn several times. The food is very good and the atmosphere is lovely. It would help the overall experience to have more servers working- service is slow and could be more attentive.

The restaurant is in the bar area therefore makes for a noisy evening. The food was good, and the service very good, the setting, an stately historic inn in a beautiful artsy village should lend itself to a more sedate, perhaps romantic dining experience. For a solid meal in a tavern atmosphere, this is the place.

We ate in the casual bar room and enjoyed a pleasant dinner of delicious stuffed mushrooms, beef perfectly cooked and a tasty bouillibase with too many potatoes for my taste. Very attentive service and a respectable wine list. Our dinner was followed by a fabulous night of jazz at The Side Door, a great venue at the Inn. Overall, we had a great experience.

We chose the Old Lyme Inn for a special dinner for our family. As we walked in, a waiter bumped into me and didn't even say anything. When we made the reservation, we had asked to be seated in the dining room--we were put in the noisy bar. It took over 20 minutes for the waiter to take a drink order and another 20 minutes to deliver--40 minutes just sitting in the noisy bar. They didn't have enough menus so asked us to share. In general, service was the worst ever. Food was mediocre. Would not recommend.

Good was good decor was beautiful but the service was not good. Food was cold when we got it. We got 3 rolls for 4 people with a very tiny amount of butter. We never got a wine list and they never asked us if we wanted more drinks. It was busy and it may be that they were under staffed. I will go back and give them another try.

Laugh out loud. Took my honored guest. service was slow and unprofessional. missing silverware. Could not ask waitstaff, not there. Waited a very long time for beverages and then food. At dinner chose a high end bottle of wine, tasted like a bucket of jug wine. Just an awful experience. So decided to have an espresso.............................it was served cold......................Save your time and eat at McDonalds, the coffee is hot

Saturday night usually is not the best night for any restaurant. However, we had a fantastic dinner here. The crab cakes were great and so was the swordfish special. Service was excellent as well. My only complaint was the noise level in the main dining room. Lacking an acoustical ceiling (normal for an old building like this) they should consider adding some acoustical fabric panels to the walls. Highly recommended.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a place with ambience in the Old Saybrook area and the restaurants were all booked so I looked on opentable for the next town. What a gem - we found the Old Lyme Inn - the staff was wonderful and the owner mingles with the guests. He is a native from the town and really restored the place beautifully. I would recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for nice outdoor or indoor dining with a Jazz Club attached for after dinner

The hostess and wait staff were great. The food was delicious, served hot and the courses were served in a timely manner. The fried oyster appetizer was one of the best oyster dishes we have ever had. We so enjoyed ourselves and made a full evening attending the "Side Door" jazz club after the dinner. Was a wonderful evening and would highly recommend it.

This is one of those restaurants that tries hard and normally gets it right. But this time drink service was slow, waited close to 30 minutes to get cocktails and the restaurant was not that busy. Overall the meals were good, except one diner the scallops were a little gritty so that understandably soured thier whole meal.

We enjoyed our lunch meeting here-charming setting, friendly staff, interesting & varied lunch menu. 4-star on food only because most menu options are heavy on cream. 3-star on service because staff removed plates while others were still eating-please wait until all diners are done with each course. Highway, tho completely invisible, was quite audible out in front that day due to the breeze direction, but inaudible from our window indoor table. The setting is charming

Second time there; this time for Mother's Day. Beautiful day; easy to get there (right off freeway); gorgeous inn. Nice live quiet music playing. Prefixed menu: service was terrible. Forgot my dads order twice; very slow bringing each course (we were not in a rush enjoying Mother's Day). Corn lobster chowder was way to sweet. Beet salad had hint of beets (though salad was good); kale Caesar (which we had before and was excellent) had extremely strong anchiove flavor throughout. The salmon was over cooked in all three orders; the crab eggs benidict was ok but crab was too much. Dessert was excellent flour less chocalate cake was smooth and rich flavor. Almost made up for service and prior dishes

After making a reservation for Mother's Day more than a week in advance, I was looking forward to having brunch at a reasonable price. When I made the reservation, I checked the menu and the prices However, unknown to me, there was a special message posted sometime after I made my reservation that indicated there would be a special menu and price for Mother's Day. I was not aware of the change, showed up for brunch, which was more of a lunch menu with a very high price. The food was good, but not extraordinary. Service was fine, but I feel that I was duped!

Stopped in for supper on a Sunday evening and had a very good meal. I ordered a delicious fish entree with several garnishes that I mistook for a side dish. Because of that I neglected to order a first course or appetizer and was a little hungry afterwards. After dinner the inn had a campfire out front with all the fixin's to "make your own" s'mores! Then I was glad I had some room for dessert!

My date and I came for dinner and a show on Saturday night, 3/8/14 with reservations for both (recommended). Service was pleasant, efficient and had a positive energy. We were seated instantly for our 7:00 dinner reservation, asked if we were going to the 8:30 show and so noted by the pleasant hostess. We each ordered a glass of wine from a tidy wine list, her a Chardonnay and me a Pino Grigio which satisfied us both. dinner orders were provided within minutes and came prepared precisely as described in the menu. about 1/2 glass of wine later the appetizers came- her a bisque and me a salad. We commented that both we very good and unique. Dinner was ready at the precise time we finished the first course and we both enjoyed them as well.

We find The Inn a perfect spot for lunch - it falls between two destinations for us. The formal dining room is quaint and lovely. There is nothing more pleasant than sitting at a window table in the sunshine on a cold winter day looking out at the snow while enjoying a delicious bowl of homemade soup. The food is reliably good and nicely served. The waitstaff is professional, attentive and happy. During the warm months there is an attractive terrace for outside dining which we want to try. The Bar is also an enjoyable place to eat in a more relaxed atmosphere. On the weekends we understand there is a LIVELY 'night club' with excellent musical entertainment. We always look forward to stopping at The Inn.

Very nice, simple menus with good execution. I loved the heat cocktail. The atmosphere is classy but not too pretentious . My Wife and I went on a Wednesday night for a midweek break from cooking. I was very quite and we got a table in the bar not far from the fire, just right for a cold winter evening. A large party came in later but was put in the main dining room so it remained intimate in the bar. The food was tasty, service was excellent and the atmosphere just what we were looking for. We will defiantly be back and try it another night to see this gem in another mood. Very glad to see this restaurant back and performing in the class it belongs!

This was our first time dining at Old Lyme Inn and will not be our last! Chosen as a middle point meet up spot for lunch with a couple that lives in CT. Each of the 4 of us had different meals, all we're outstanding! Soups, grilled cheese, lobster Mac and cheese, hamburger, vegetable , were all freshly prepared and most tasty. Service was friendly and efficient. Highly recommend as the perfect place located right off RT 95 at Exit 70 for a terrific meal whether in transit or as a destination.

The food was tremendous. I had the Chicken Pot Pie, delicous and comforting; My husband had Salmon he said was fantastic. We shared the brussel sprouts-perfect side. However, we were put in the bar and it was extremely noisy. I was looking for a quieter room. We did not get a wine list. I ordered a glass of pinot noir and hoped for the best. We had to ask for bread, although everyone around us was served bread before the meal. Our side of brussel sprouts did not come with our meal and we had to ask several times before they came.We were almost done with our meal when they came out. The waiter was friendly, but seemed inexperienced and not as attentive as he could be. With a few tweaks, this place could be 5 stars across the board.

The Side Door jazz club has Old Lyme Inn attached. Club is perfect. Restaurant is super convenient to complete a great date night. The food was pretty good, but missed the mark of true foody goodness. Kale salad was huge and yummy. Lobster Mac and Cheese needed something. Polenta deconstructed lasagna was tasty, different. Not sure how it got to be lasagna. I'll try it again, but might prefer to be in the bar area. Dining room was lovely but very quiet.
