Diner Reviews
  • "We had been to the inn four months ago and ate inside and we were disssappointented but it seems to be back to the high quality we have come to expect since the renovations have been completed."

  • "Again I have to give two thumbs up! Had a great lunch and the outside dining was perfect. The food, service and portions were fabulous."

  • "This is one of those restaurants that tries hard and normally gets it right. But this time drink service was slow, waited close to 30 minutes to get cocktails and the restaurant was not that busy. Overall the meals were good, except one diner the scallops were a little gritty so that understandably soured thier whole meal."

  • "Service was slow. The "medium" filet twice came raw & couldn't eat it They removed it from the tab. But went away hungry"

  • "We enjoyed our lunch meeting here-charming setting, friendly staff, interesting & varied lunch menu. 4-star on food only because most menu options are heavy on cream. 3-star on service because staff removed plates while others were still eating-please wait until all diners are done with each course. Highway, tho completely invisible, was quite audible out in front that day due to the breeze direction, but inaudible from our window indoor table. The setting is charming"

  • "Enjoyed the atmosphere of this beautiful inn along with the excellent dining experience. Food was delicious and the service was great. My wife and I were down for my birthday and taking in the jazz show at the Side Door Jazz cafe right next door or attached to the building. Well worth the ride and the surrounding area is beautiful to see if your early."

  • "We enjoyed a beautiful summer day at the outside patio at the Inn. Although traffic was passing by ,it wasn't even loud. The lunch was wounderful and service great. A perfect spot to catch up with my best friend."

  • "I have been to the Old Lyme Inn for brunch a few times with friends and enjoyed Father's Day brunch there recently with our family. We sat outside as the weather was perfect and also perfect was our food and the exceptional and friendly service. The waitstaff and bartenden are really wonderful and made the experience a happy memory."

  • "Second time there; this time for Mother's Day. Beautiful day; easy to get there (right off freeway); gorgeous inn. Nice live quiet music playing. Prefixed menu: service was terrible. Forgot my dads order twice; very slow bringing each course (we were not in a rush enjoying Mother's Day). Corn lobster chowder was way to sweet. Beet salad had hint of beets (though salad was good); kale Caesar (which we had before and was excellent) had extremely strong anchiove flavor throughout. The salmon was over cooked in all three orders; the crab eggs benidict was ok but crab was too much. Dessert was excellent flour less chocalate cake was smooth and rich flavor. Almost made up for service and prior dishes"

  • "After making a reservation for Mother's Day more than a week in advance, I was looking forward to having brunch at a reasonable price. When I made the reservation, I checked the menu and the prices However, unknown to me, there was a special message posted sometime after I made my reservation that indicated there would be a special menu and price for Mother's Day. I was not aware of the change, showed up for brunch, which was more of a lunch menu with a very high price. The food was good, but not extraordinary. Service was fine, but I feel that I was duped!"

  • "We enjoyed our meals. The food was upscale and quite delicious. The piano player was superb and added just the right touch. Our server was quite pleasant. We will truly consider going again next Easter and would gladly recommend it to others. "

  • "Stopped in for supper on a Sunday evening and had a very good meal. I ordered a delicious fish entree with several garnishes that I mistook for a side dish. Because of that I neglected to order a first course or appetizer and was a little hungry afterwards. After dinner the inn had a campfire out front with all the fixin's to "make your own" s'mores! Then I was glad I had some room for dessert!"

  • "My date and I came for dinner and a show on Saturday night, 3/8/14 with reservations for both (recommended). Service was pleasant, efficient and had a positive energy. We were seated instantly for our 7:00 dinner reservation, asked if we were going to the 8:30 show and so noted by the pleasant hostess. We each ordered a glass of wine from a tidy wine list, her a Chardonnay and me a Pino Grigio which satisfied us both. dinner orders were provided within minutes and came prepared precisely as described in the menu. about 1/2 glass of wine later the appetizers came- her a bisque and me a salad. We commented that both we very good and unique. Dinner was ready at the precise time we finished the first course and we both enjoyed them as well."

  • "We find The Inn a perfect spot for lunch - it falls between two destinations for us. The formal dining room is quaint and lovely. There is nothing more pleasant than sitting at a window table in the sunshine on a cold winter day looking out at the snow while enjoying a delicious bowl of homemade soup. The food is reliably good and nicely served. The waitstaff is professional, attentive and happy. During the warm months there is an attractive terrace for outside dining which we want to try. The Bar is also an enjoyable place to eat in a more relaxed atmosphere. On the weekends we understand there is a LIVELY 'night club' with excellent musical entertainment. We always look forward to stopping at The Inn."

  • "Very nice, simple menus with good execution. I loved the heat cocktail. The atmosphere is classy but not too pretentious . My Wife and I went on a Wednesday night for a midweek break from cooking. I was very quite and we got a table in the bar not far from the fire, just right for a cold winter evening. A large party came in later but was put in the main dining room so it remained intimate in the bar. The food was tasty, service was excellent and the atmosphere just what we were looking for. We will defiantly be back and try it another night to see this gem in another mood. Very glad to see this restaurant back and performing in the class it belongs!"

  • "Nice to have a la carte options for brunch that are breakfast and also lunch type offerings (i.e.; bacon and eggs or a hamburger). I was in the breakfast mood and I wished they had had an omlette on the menu but all in all the food was very good as was the service."

  • "This was our first time dining at Old Lyme Inn and will not be our last! Chosen as a middle point meet up spot for lunch with a couple that lives in CT. Each of the 4 of us had different meals, all we're outstanding! Soups, grilled cheese, lobster Mac and cheese, hamburger, vegetable , were all freshly prepared and most tasty. Service was friendly and efficient. Highly recommend as the perfect place located right off RT 95 at Exit 70 for a terrific meal whether in transit or as a destination."

  • "The food was tremendous. I had the Chicken Pot Pie, delicous and comforting; My husband had Salmon he said was fantastic. We shared the brussel sprouts-perfect side. However, we were put in the bar and it was extremely noisy. I was looking for a quieter room. We did not get a wine list. I ordered a glass of pinot noir and hoped for the best. We had to ask for bread, although everyone around us was served bread before the meal. Our side of brussel sprouts did not come with our meal and we had to ask several times before they came.We were almost done with our meal when they came out. The waiter was friendly, but seemed inexperienced and not as attentive as he could be. With a few tweaks, this place could be 5 stars across the board."

  • "The Side Door jazz club has Old Lyme Inn attached. Club is perfect. Restaurant is super convenient to complete a great date night. The food was pretty good, but missed the mark of true foody goodness. Kale salad was huge and yummy. Lobster Mac and Cheese needed something. Polenta deconstructed lasagna was tasty, different. Not sure how it got to be lasagna. I'll try it again, but might prefer to be in the bar area. Dining room was lovely but very quiet."

  • "We've dined here for years, now under new ownership since our last visit. It was a very busy night there as a concert was happening. Even so, our service was pretty good. The menu while not overly large, has delicious sounding choices. My thoughts are that nothing was bad--just very bland. I had the chopped salad and mushroom polenta lasagna--and needed to salt and pepper both quite heavily--something I am not in the habit of doing! The bar also seemed to be having a few glitches--likely due to high volume of concert goers. The very best thing served at our table was the creme brûlée---wow! That was amazing!! I would go again--perhaps on a quieter night A lovely touch was the outside fire pit with marshmallows for roasting!"

  • "Hadn't been here in a few years. What a great change! Food was delicious,(perfect lamb chops), and service was the best. A little noisy in the bar area but it was a Saturday night. Can't wait to come back and try the Jazz Club."

  • "We have dined there before and graded it 5 star .... But the new chef has installed his new menu and it is a great disappointment .... Mac and cheese, dry ? With no béchamel sauce, burgers dry and tasteless ... Even the complimentary popcorn was old and stale ... Drinks were the hi point of the evening"

  • "Received a gift certificate to the Old Lyme Inn restaurant along with a guest pass to the Florence Griswold Museum, just down the street from the Inn - a perfect combination for those who enjoy fine cuisine and art. The Inn restaurant was superb in every respect, with a lovely ambiance that encourages one to unplug and enjoy the moment. Also a great fall foliage destination."

  • "There were five of us dining tonight...between us, we ordered shrimp and grits, calves liver, salmon, lamb chops, and tuna. Everything was tasty, but the two fish dinners were on the small side. We could only select from the menu....there were no specials that night....but they were out of a couple items including filet mignon by 7;00 on a Sat night!! Would consider coming back again as our waiter (services was EXCELLENT by the way!) said a new menu would be available next month...."

  • "We tried this restaurant on a Thursday night. Food and service were Very Good although the menu is limited. Our server informed us that the new chef would be changing the menu in October. It's nice to see the restaurant attempting to return to its previous heights for dining. We will return for dinner sometime soon."

The Inn is charming and warm and the food was fabulous, it was fresh and delicious. I understand their Sunday brunch is very good and I look forward to trying it. I would definitely recommend the The Old Lyme Inn."

  • "Enjoy the place a lot - food is good, service is in question - nice enough but seem overwhelmed with large parties - I would prefer more staff when they have large parties - so locals can get same consistent service and not recognize the overwhelming state. Check on the specials - they may be items they want to move along verse real chef creations."

  • "Arriving for our five pm reservation we were told we had to eat at the bar! A embarrassing situation developed when we didn't want to eat at the bar. We were told they had reservations. I reminded them we had reservations. These extremely snobbish people eventually relented and sat us in the dining room. After spending one hundred and fifty bucks and a hour and a half we left with a only a half full dining room. This place is way too full of themselves."

  • "We have always loved the Old Lyme Inn but this most recent menu is not even make to the standard of bar food. The service was friendly but training is needed in what foods are being served and the wines being offered. Knowledge of what is being served would be nice. The bus people were also not trained properly. The rolls were hot and good. The Caesar Salad was acceptable but the dressing was unexceptional. The crouton did not taste like parmesan. How can one offer Italian items on the menu and not train the staff about the food? The grits were far too sweet with not counterpoint. The shrimp was overcooked. The sausages were good but the dish lacked coordination and the sauce was unappetizing. Please train the staff and the chef."
