I went to the Old Lyme Inn with a
first date. The food was good and the atmosphere was decent with a pianist playing softly in the background."

My date and I came for dinner and
a show on Saturday night, 3/8/14 with reservations for both (recommended). Service was pleasant, efficient and had a positive energy. We were seated instantly for our 7:00 dinner reservation, asked if we were going to the 8:30 show and so noted by the pleasant hostess. We each ordered a glass of wine from a tidy wine list, her a Chardonnay and me a Pino Grigio which satisfied us both. dinner orders were provided within minutes and came prepared precisely as described in the menu. about 1/2 glass of wine later the appetizers came- her a bisque and me a salad. We commented that both we very good and unique. Dinner was ready at the precise time we finished the first course and we both enjoyed them as well."

We find The Inn a perfect spot for
lunch - it falls between two destinations for us. The formal dining room is quaint and lovely. There is nothing more pleasant than sitting at a window table in the sunshine on a cold winter day looking out at the snow while enjoying a delicious bowl of homemade soup. The food is reliably good and nicely served. The waitstaff is professional, attentive and happy. During the warm months there is an attractive terrace for outside dining which we want to try. The Bar is also an enjoyable place to eat in a more relaxed atmosphere. On the weekends we understand there is a LIVELY 'night club' with excellent musical entertainment. We always look forward to stopping at The Inn."

Very nice, simple menus with good
execution. I loved the heat cocktail. The atmosphere is classy but not too pretentious . My Wife and I went on a Wednesday night for a midweek break from cooking. I was very quite and we got a table in the bar not far from the fire, just right for a cold winter evening. A large party came in later but was put in the main dining room so it remained intimate in the bar. The food was tasty, service was excellent and the atmosphere just what we were looking for. We will defiantly be back and try it another night to see this gem in another mood. Very glad to see this restaurant back and performing in the class it belongs!"

Nice to have a la carte options
for brunch that are breakfast and also lunch type offerings (i.e.; bacon and eggs or a hamburger). I was in the breakfast mood and I wished they had had an omlette on the menu but all in all the food was very good as was the service."

This was our first time dining at
Old Lyme Inn and will not be our last! Chosen as a middle point meet up spot for lunch with a couple that lives in CT. Each of the 4 of us had different meals, all we're outstanding! Soups, grilled cheese, lobster Mac and cheese, hamburger, vegetable , were all freshly prepared and most tasty. Service was friendly and efficient. Highly recommend as the perfect place located right off RT 95 at Exit 70 for a terrific meal whether in transit or as a destination."

The food was tremendous. I had the
Chicken Pot Pie, delicous and comforting; My husband had Salmon he said was fantastic. We shared the brussel sprouts-perfect side. However, we were put in the bar and it was extremely noisy. I was looking for a quieter room. We did not get a wine list. I ordered a glass of pinot noir and hoped for the best. We had to ask for bread, although everyone around us was served bread before the meal. Our side of brussel sprouts did not come with our meal and we had to ask several times before they came.We were almost done with our meal when they came out. The waiter was friendly, but seemed inexperienced and not as attentive as he could be. With a few tweaks, this place could be 5 stars across the board."

The Side Door jazz club has Old
Lyme Inn attached. Club is perfect. Restaurant is super convenient to complete a great date night. The food was pretty good, but missed the mark of true foody goodness. Kale salad was huge and yummy. Lobster Mac and Cheese needed something. Polenta deconstructed lasagna was tasty, different. Not sure how it got to be lasagna. I'll try it again, but might prefer to be in the bar area. Dining room was lovely but very quiet."

Really enjoyed our evening and we
were excited to discover the Jazz venue "The Side Door.""
Dined on 12/27/2013

the fireplace in tap room.....food and service were very good. Weather had been poor during the day but people wewre there to enjoy evening. New owners are doing a good job and even have jazz nites in the side section of the inn. was a nice dining experience.....recommend reservations on weekends.....will return"

Hadn't been here in a few years.
What a great change! Food was delicious,(perfect lamb chops), and service was the best. A little noisy in the bar area but it was a Saturday night. Can't wait to come back and try the Jazz Club."

We've dined here for years, now
under new ownership since our last visit. It was a very busy night there as a concert was happening. Even so, our service was pretty good. The menu while not overly large, has delicious sounding choices. My thoughts are that nothing was bad--just very bland. I had the chopped salad and mushroom polenta lasagna--and needed to salt and pepper both quite heavily--something I am not in the habit of doing! The bar also seemed to be having a few glitches--likely due to high volume of concert goers. The very best thing served at our table was the creme brûlée---wow! That was amazing!! I would go again--perhaps on a quieter night A lovely touch was the outside fire pit with marshmallows for roasting!"

All 4 dinners enjoyed their meals.
Some interesting dishes - such as Kale Caesar Salad. Dessert was wonderful."
Dined on 11/9/2013
We have dined there before and
graded it 5 star .... But the new chef has installed his new menu and it is a great disappointment .... Mac and cheese, dry ? With no béchamel sauce, burgers dry and tasteless ... Even the complimentary popcorn was old and stale ... Drinks were the hi point of the evening"

great experience. Be specific"

For a quiet, romantic dinner to
celebrate Old Lyme Inn tops the list for New England ambiance."
Dined on 10/26/2013
Received a gift certificate to the
Old Lyme Inn restaurant along with a guest pass to the Florence Griswold Museum, just down the street from the Inn - a perfect combination for those who enjoy fine cuisine and art. The Inn restaurant was superb in every respect, with a lovely ambiance that encourages one to unplug and enjoy the moment. Also a great fall foliage destination."
Dined on 10/19/2013
The new menu is inconsistent from
the new executive chef. Appetizers overpriced. Service and ambience are very good. Limited menu"

Fantastic service, wonderful food,
and a lovely restaurant."
Dined on 10/13/2013
There were five of us dining
tonight...between us, we ordered shrimp and grits, calves liver, salmon, lamb chops, and tuna. Everything was tasty, but the two fish dinners were on the small side. We could only select from the menu....there were no specials that night....but they were out of a couple items including filet mignon by 7;00 on a Sat night!! Would consider coming back again as our waiter (services was EXCELLENT by the way!) said a new menu would be available next month...."

We tried this restaurant on a
Thursday night. Food and service were Very Good although the menu is limited. Our server informed us that the new chef would be changing the menu in October. It's nice to see the restaurant attempting to return to its previous heights for dining. We will return for dinner sometime soon."

I was meeting someone for a
business lunch meeting and chose The Old Lyme Inn because it was close to town and they had an interesting menu on their website. The Inn is charming and warm and the food was fabulous, it was fresh and delicious. I understand their Sunday brunch is very good and I look forward to trying it. I would definitely recommend the The Old Lyme Inn."
Dined on 9/24/2013
The restaurant is located in a
charming 13 room inn. The property is lovely with lots of trees and grass. This really enhanced my meeting a freind I hadn't seen in 2 years."
Dined on 9/22/2013
Enjoy the place a lot - food is
good, service is in question - nice enough but seem overwhelmed with large parties - I would prefer more staff when they have large parties - so locals can get same consistent service and not recognize the overwhelming state. Check on the specials - they may be items they want to move along verse real chef creations."

We thoroughly enjoyed our
experience at the new Old Lyme Inn. We had not been there in years...we enjoyed our dinner, the wine and the ambiance. We will definitely go there again. It is beautiful and the staff were very welcoming, accommodating and nice. Thank you."

Arriving for our five pm
reservation we were told we had to eat at the bar! A embarrassing situation developed when we didn't want to eat at the bar. We were told they had reservations. I reminded them we had reservations. These extremely snobbish people eventually relented and sat us in the dining room. After spending one hundred and fifty bucks and a hour and a half we left with a only a half full dining room. This place is way too full of themselves."
Dined on 9/22/2013
We have always loved the Old Lyme
Inn but this most recent menu is not even make to the standard of bar food. The service was friendly but training is needed in what foods are being served and the wines being offered. Knowledge of what is being served would be nice. The bus people were also not trained properly. The rolls were hot and good. The Caesar Salad was acceptable but the dressing was unexceptional. The crouton did not taste like parmesan. How can one offer Italian items on the menu and not train the staff about the food? The grits were far too sweet with not counterpoint. The shrimp was overcooked. The sausages were good but the dish lacked coordination and the sauce was unappetizing. Please train the staff and the chef."

Visited Old Lyme Inn for dinner to
celebrate our wedding anniversary. Never having been there we didn't know what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised. The Inn is close to the highway, the food was excellent, the atmosphere was appropriate for our celebration, and the service was quick and professional. The Inn owner also visited the tables to extend his appreciation and ensure our satisfaction which was impressive."
Dined on 9/8/2013
It was a beautiful night so we ate
on the outdoor patio... Comfortable furniture, candles & romantic outdoor lighting. The cocktails were great as was the service. The menu is limited but there is something for everyone. The 2 starters, scallops & fritters were very good. The filet mignon is amazing, the special swordfish was fabulous. The Haddock on the menu was just okay. This is a restaurant you must not miss!!"
Dined on 8/18/2013
Old Lyme Inn is just a spectacular
place! Food is wonderful, service is remarkable and its topped off with lovely surroundings. Dress up or dress down, all are welcome at this jazz infused dining venue."
Dined on 8/7/2013
Loved dining on the patio.
Everything was great , from the live music playing to the fire pit and benches they had at check-in stand. Service was good and food was great. Menue is not extensive, but will allow for varied choices"
Dined on 7/28/2013
We were disappointed with both our
meal (haddock dry and tasteless) and the extremely noisy atmosphere in the dining area. It was hard to carry on a conversation with the person seated across from me. I paid restaurant prices for a bar experience! I expected better."
Dined on 7/24/2013
We'd dined here several years ago
and weren't terribly impressed, but now the whole inn seems to have been redecorated and updated so it looks lovely and inviting. The food was delicious and the presentation was excellent. Our waiter was a true delight, attentive but not intrusive. We stayed to talk with our friends for about three hours and didn't feel rushed or pressured to leave. If it weren't so far from home, we'd definitely go more often."
Dined on 7/20/2013
We were planning to go to their
jazz club and thought we would eat at the inn prior to the show . It started off with a tasty gin and tonic in the bar. My husband had oysters and I had the twice cooked scallops for appetizers. The scallops were so sweet and the oysters were good except they could have been colder to bring out even more flavor. My husband had seared tuna. He has had the dish before in other restaurants and my husband had commented that this was among the best. I enjoyed the veggie lasagne special. The flourless chocolate cake was a nice way to end the dinner. The cake was still warm as to enhance its flavor. We then proceeded to a great show in their Side Door Club."
Dined on 7/21/2013
Beautiful setting inside and out-
easy to get to- service was above and beyond Which I love on a night were I want to really relax Great recommendations by our waiter Elmo! Food was awesome- drinks were just right and food came fast So we could get to the new jazz club on time We heard some great jazz in an intimate setting We met the performers at intermission - very exciting!"
Dined on 7/20/2013
We were pleased with our first
visit. The traditional menu items alll had a flair by adding contemporary twists to traditional items. The lambchops were excellent with homemade hummos and greens on the side. The liver was matched with well prepared mashed potatos. Also, an interesting (but limited) wine selection included a French (not Oregon) Pini Gris. Well worth it."
Dined on 7/11/2013
We have been here a couple of
times in the summer and love eating outdoors."
Dined on 7/7/2013
There was a lively atmosphere
outdoors with live music at 7:15pm when I arrived. And quiet air-conditioned dining indoors. Two dining venues, depending on your mood. The oak leaf salad and salmon on lentils were both perfectly prepared and presented. Attentive service. Enjoyed this first visit very much. The Old Lyme Inn is located across the road from the Florence Griswold Art Museum whose summer gardens were in full bloom, if you are looking for a day trip of good food and art along the Lieutenant River in Old Lyme (Exit #70 off of I-95)."
