Diner Reviews
  • "We had a great experience. The service was excellent and the food was amazing!"

  • "We have been long time customers of the Homestead, for years. Someone had told us that the food has gone down hill. Well, THEY ARE TOTALLY WRONG. We have visited the Old Homestead twice, this year so far. The food was great, perfectly prepared as we requested. Everything was perfect. We will be back."

  • "This restaurant is for tourists. I had a very unpleasant experience here. But the stuffed shrimp entree was very good."

  • "My wife and I ran in here for a bite and ordered the filet w/ Potato pancake and an order of bacon. The filet's were both under cooked and under seasoned, they tasted as though there was not even salt and pepper on them. We were both very disappointed and not worth what they charge, the seating was nice and service was quick but we will not be going back."

  • "Great food, good and comfortable table for a party of 10, good athmosphere, it was only a little noisy"

  • "Of all the steak houses, we choose old homestead because it was not supposed to be a gem, an antique relic of New York. And I get it, it attracts the many, but for the life of me, please enforce a dress code. At least no baseball caps, no sandals or shorts so that when my wife and I are enjoying the juicy sirloin and bacon wrapped filet, we enjoy the ambiance, the environment, and the food as a whole experience. That way we don't feel as of we are in some common franchise, but the gem that is Old Homestead."

  • "We made a reservation and were seated 30 minutes late. It was incredibly noisy and crowded. We then waited for another 10 minutes before we received any water. Went there for my Mom's birthday and after having an expensive dinner, they awkwardly forced us into ordering a cake for her birthday instead of it being a courtesy. Waiter did not know the wine list and was very short. Felt like we were an inconvenience to the staff dining in their restaurant, won't be returning."
    Dined on 6/19/2014
  • "Our main waiter seemed put out in a sense. May have been having a tough day. An other waiter who assisted with service was very pleasant and seemed genuinely happy to be there. The food was outstanding and each of our meals was cooked to perfection, exactly how it was ordered."

  • "We had a dinner party grow to 12 people last minute. They were able to accommodate us in a private room upstairs. Service was excellent!"

  • "My husband and I go to the Old Homestead once a year to reconnect. We love it there and the food is probably the best quality food I've ever had in my life. The service is an art form mastered and the presentations are beautiful. We always have a couple of shrimp (which are gigantic and so sweet) porterhouse steak for two, creamed spinach and then fight over the crispy parts of a heavenly truffle mac & cheese. In our opinion, the prices are not cheap (which is why this is a once a year treat for us), but it's an excellent place for special occasions. Although labeled a steakhouse, there are chicken alternatives, and a nice selection of fish entrees on the menu, along with a raw bar. Not exactly kid friendly, but children are welcome."

  • "If you want big, fat, juicy slab of meat, Old Homestead will not dissapoint! The Gotham is the classic but the Filet Mignon on the Bone is absolutely out of this world."
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "If you are seeking beef, this is the place. We ate the filet Mignon on the bone, apple-wood bacon bacon wrapped bacon and Empire Prime rib. All cooked perfectly to order Great flavor and tender. For sides we ordered the special bread which one could eat forever. Asparagus fresh, jumbo and tender. Great Onion rings and garlic mashed potatoes. Huge shrimp for shrimp cocktail. Finally the chocolate cake was light and huge. The creme brulee and key lime pie were perfect. All round worth the price and each item exceeded our expectations. A delightful dinner."

  • "Dinner was great. The only thing that I was upset at was that I order a bottle of your special steak sauce but I did not get it. My only question how can I get the sauce."
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "This was my second visit to this restaurant and the experience was unbelievable. The service and the food was amazing. The prime rib was cooked to perfection and so was the hamburger that my son ordered. It is expensive, but it's well worth it for a special occasion."

  • "Took my Fiance for his birthday dinner to Old Homestead. Great food and service, do not have a single complaint."

  • "Vibrant lively setting. Great steaks and a fabulous Prime Rib. The Executive cut was impressive. A great place to go when you want beef!"

  • "The food is average. It's not close to other high end steak restaurants in nyc. Lugers, S&W, Strip House are far and away better. Our waiter had the personality of a robot. The service was extremely slow. The only time it sped up was after receiving the check as they were only interested in turning over the table. Long lines for two small upstairs bathrooms didn't help the situation. Simply put, eating here is a waste of time and money."
    Dined on 6/7/2014
  • "The noise was unbearable. If not for that, my review would be much higher."
    Dined on 6/7/2014
  • "Can I complain? No. Was everything delicious? Yes. So why was I not blown away? I really don't know. Have always wanted to go and I'm glad I tried it but once is enough. "

  • "We ordered appetizers and entrees. For appetizers we had kobe meatballs. Entrees we had Lamb, Prime Rib, Filet Mignon. Sides we had asparagus and onion rings. All the appetizers, entrees, and sides were delicious. I only had two complaints, the first one was I made the request for the prime rib to be cooked (medium well, little to no pink it came out medium rare and extremely bloody. I would have sent it back but it was late and I was hungry. It was a huge chunk of meat but most of it went to waste because it was so bloody. The second complaint is it was extremely loud, out of the whole restaurant we were the only women. All the men in the restaurant were shouting across their tables like they were at a party in a frat house. "

  • "My wife and I went for lunch. The food was outstanding and the service even better. Had and old school steakhouse feel with a modern touch. Wife and I had the Colossal Shrimp and Crab Cocktail which were both fresh and tasty. We split the 20oz Kobe burger which is a must for lunch! Remi was outstanding. "

  • "On arrival was promptly seated, and service was excellent. Everyone in my party enjoyed their choice of food. And of course the Girls enjoyed the cocktails. "

  • "The steak au poivre was amazing and so was the service. Old New York and old time ( hard to find) good classic food. Will return with friends and family."
    Dined on 6/1/2014
  • "Although, the food was good, I can't say it was the best steak I've ever had…. The filet on the bone au poivre arrived lukewarm and did not have enough sauce. The quality of the meat was excellent. The sides were good at best: creamed spinach was a-bit salty. The baked hash brown cake was great. The green beans were cooked perfectly, but over-powered by the smoked flavor of the bacon. The truffle mac & cheese was on the bland side, not enough cheese flavor. The Caesar salad was solidly good. The lump crab meat cocktail was one of the better dishes we had. I did not care for the hustle-bustle atmosphere. It felt rushed & hectic. I prefer a more relaxed, calm dining experience when spending that kind of money."

  • "We went to The Old Homestead to celebrate. But the meat was dry and not worth the money."

  • "This was exactly what I expected. After seeing Old Homestead's Famous Kobe Burger on the travel channel I had to get down there and nosh on this culinary work of art. Words cannot describe the awesomeness of this burger. Its like butter in your mouth. If you have the love for burgers check this place out. "

  • "the food, especially the steak and appitizer and siders were delicious. the table was a little small for six people since we added one person that evening. the location is.very good and convenicent. this was my second time to have dinner here. i will come again"

  • "Made an online dinner reservation the day before and combined it with a visit to the High Line. My out-of-town visitors wanted a good steak dinner and I remembered The Old Homestead from years ago as a superb place for steak dinner. I ordered the 10 oz Filet Mignon and it was prepared to perfection. Great food, ambience and good service. "

  • "The service was outstanding; our waiter truly cared for our satisfaction. Our steak and sides was great. I definitely advise reservations ahead of time for proper seating. Ask for upstairs dining rooms."

  • "My GF and I went here because we usually go to the one in Atlantic City's Borgata and love it. The shrimp cocktail was delicious, like AC's version. Giant colossal shrimp cooked perfectly. Our Caesar's salad was also delicious. We ordered the porterhouse for 2 because I am a Filet Mignon person and my GF likes her strip. We ordered it well done and was told it could take 40 minutes for WD. We had no problem with that cuz our appetizers would hold us over. It came out looking more like Med and some spots Med-rare. We sent it back but it came back still on the red side. The steak was still delicious but my GF didn't eat much of it because of that. for a $300 meal, I feel it should have been cooked perfectly like our experience in AC."

  • "Dined at this restaurant recently and was not impressed. Although the food was very good the other aspects of the experience was not.At 6pm I notified the hostess that I had a reservation and had to wait 15 minutes while restaurant had many open tables. At 6:15 I had to ask again to be seated. At that point we were led upstairs to the rear of the restaurant where we were seated cramped at a tiny table (for 2) in between 2 other tables while the entire rest of the upstairs was empty. Although all items ordered were excellent, I would not return. Shared a lobster for entree and the price was listed at market. I asked the cost and when the bill came was charged $10 more. When questioned waiter said I guess the price went up. O"

  • "Everything was excellent but unfortunately the side dishes fell flat. The garlic mashed potatoes were more like creamed potatoes and the green beans were undercooked. Aside from that flop the evening went very well. The steaks were cooked to perfection, the appetizers were delicious (oysters, shrimp, crab cake and yellowfin tuna), the salad were wonderful and oversized. The service was worth a 20%+ tip. "

  • "Had a late night reservation and tried the giant Kobe burger. It did not disappoint. Tasted great and was well seasoned. Service was friendly. Overall, a great experience. I will be back the next time I'm back in the city."

  • "Unfortunately close to a large party who thought they were in a private room, screaming, singing, etc. Apparently the staff thought they were also at the party, failing to bring our order for a very long time, and then when pressed produced cold food. Reheating a $50 steak in a microwave is just not acceptable, and either management needs to get its act back to the old glory days, or another NYC institution will be history."

  • "Started with the rock shrimp tempura appetizer with wasabi aioli. Had just a little bite. Very good. Had the Gotham bone-in rib-eye for my entrée. Good flavor, cooked to a perfect medium rare. Wife had the stuffed shrimp which had crab in it. She loved it. Only 2 shrimp came to an order, but they were huge. Less than 5 to a pound. She couldn't finish it. The truffle buttered baked potato and truffle mac and cheese were tasty. Only knock is there is not much room to wait for your reservation time if you are early. Just a few bar seats. "
