Old Hickory Steakhouse is a great space with beautiful views and is a great setting both for couples and for groups. The service was fantastic with knowledgeable, friendly courteous waitstaff. Excellent table, our waiter Marvin was great and instrumental in getting a happy birthday song sang to my boyfriend for his 50th birthday. The atmosphere was impeccable and the food was superb. Their food is always flavorful and prepared to specification, the drinks are top shelf, and the river view is beautiful when you get the right table. We always request Andrew as our server for his perfect mix of personal attention, professional skills and spot-on recommendations. We recommend plenty of appetizers and desserts, but the cheese cave is the highlight. The "Cheese Lady" is a delight with her presentation, knowledge and advice. The room was good for conversation, food was outstanding and staff was knowledgeable, entertaining and very observant (didn't interrupt at important times of conversation). The only downside was that one side of table did not have individual chairs so some were uncomfortable with little back support (though there were pillows) (also this was just our seating and not all). Being located in a Gaylord Property in the National Harbor doesn't hurt as well for ambiance. It was an inviting and subtle atmosphere but gave us that wow factor. We completely enjoyed the service and the food was amazing. Most hotel restaurants are marginal or just plain bad, but this was excellent in every way. Went to another Old Hickory restaurant at the Gaylord in Nashville several months ago and it too was excellent. The DC restaurant is beautiful in black & white decor and the service and food couldn't have been better.
*wedge salads were great (thick crispy bacon to DIE)
*Filets were cooked and seasoned perfectly
*garlic mashed potatoes were so smooth and cramy and mushrooms were delicious
*carrot cake was very good

For the price that you are paying it should be really good food. Instead, we got mediocre food. We had a party of 6, and the staff was attentive and friendly. Our waiter was able to make wine recommendations for our meals, the cheese selection and presentation was excellent, and the main course was served promptly after appetizers.
