Diner Reviews
  • "The food was outstanding - one of the best steaks I have ever eaten! The only downside was the hostess was very rude and sat us at a very uncomfortable table. While leading us to our table she left us standing next to the bar for over 5 minutes to go and talk to another employee. The excellent food and our waitress made up for the rough beginning..."

  • "This was our first experience dining at Old Hickory Steakhouse. The atmosphere was very Washingtonian in style. Nice views of the Potomac river, if seated by a front window. My wife had the Salmon and I had the Cowboy ribeye. Both of our meals were outstanding. We plan to return soon."

  • "Because this is an upscale restaurant, my expectations were high. When arriving at the hostess desk, there were two ladies at the computer discussing how something had been changed in the computer without permission. They totally ignored that my family and I were standing right in front of them. After several minutes when they did finally acknowledge us, they were not overly friendly. Additionally, while the restaurant appeared to be decorated nicely, the desk had layers of tape holding the veneer/wood together (not a very upscale fix). The place was almost empty even though the hotel was packed which seemed odd. I will say though that the food was pretty good, although probably not worth the price we paid and the service wasn't great."

  • "I have been to Old Hickory on several occasions. The quality of food is always outstanding. What I love is the staff are well train and provide you with excellent service. The ladies that explain the cheese cart know the product very well. The waiters and waitress staff are friendly and helpful and make the experience excellent. The view of the River and The Bridge is outstanding to. I would recommend Old Hickory if you want a great steak with great service and atmosphere. They have it all"

  • "This steakhouse is right in the Gaylord hotel and I did not have high hopes for it based solely on that fact. But it was really very good my entire party of 7 had steak and they were VERY good! In fact, the flavor of the steak was better than the one I had at Bond 45 (another local upscale steakhouse) just the night before. The service was harried and sketchy but not terrible. Nothing on the menu of note of uniqueness but again, a solid hotel restaurant."

  • "We arrived on time for our 8pm Thursday night reservation. For 5 minutes the hostess did not speak to us or look up from her computer. I finially interupted her work to announce our party of four. She looked up and said OK. She focused another minute on the computer and then got menues and seated a previous guest. Another hostess appeared and without saying a word to us began typing on the computer. I asked if they were busy or running behind and she stated no. We had been waiting 15 minutes in a vacant room without being politely spoken to or given any sense of when we would be seated. We finally were seated without a smile. The remainder of the meal was excellent. The waiters were great - the food was great - we had a great time."

  • "This was a very expensive restaurant. I didn't realize it was in the Gaylord. That would have told me how exensive it was. A steak for $60??? And that didn't include a side. There wasn't a nice variety on the menu. My salmon was dry. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals."

  • "The atmosphere was wonderful, definitely upscale. The ambience was great. Food was wonderful. Only bad point is that is was more pricey than I expected."

  • "Nice ambiance, very quiet on a Wednesday evening. Service was OK but not very fast or attentive. The food is good but it doesn't quite match other top level steak houses in the DC area. Salad and sides very good, main course (steak/salmon) good, desserts and coffee a bit disappointing. At this price level, a bit more is expected."

  • "Two of us had the wagyu strip. Cooked to perfection and almost as tender as a filet, but packed with flavor. Awesome. Definitely with it."

  • "Everything was perfect for us this evening. We asked for a quiet, intimate table - we were given one. The before-dinner cocktails were very, very good. The service was attentive but not over-bearing. Food was delicious - well seasoned and presented. Of course the prices are steep, but that's what you would expect for an fine-dining steak house. Highly recommend - you will not be disappointed."

  • "We took my in-laws to dinner and enjoyed every minute we were there. The cheese service is superb. Our waiter, Joe, was very attentive . We ask for him by name now. Our food was wonderful. The Wagyu steak practically melts in your mouth. The vegetables were great."

  • "My friends and I all have a birthday a week apart, but one of us had a milestone birthday. I went to the restaurant a week ahead and spoke to the manager. They allowed me to bring balloons and order a cake for the event. The dinner was outstanding and our waiter was really terrific. We go to Old Hickory for all of our special events and we love it! Order the cheese cart and ALWAYS get the steak!"

  • "Met an old friend while attending a meeting at the Gaylord. Old Hickory provided superb service and a great ovrerall experience. Less pretentious than other steakhouses. Overall great experience - I will be back"

  • "We were warmly greeted and seated quickly. Our waiter, of Bangladesh roots, was superb; friendly, attentive, non-intrusive, and helpful. We enjoyed the crab cakes, wedge salad, rib eye (which was a bit more rare than medium but still delicious) and mash potatoes and Brussels sprouts. We enjoyed a table by the windows as we watched the sunset over the Potomac. Overall a wonderful experience. Four stars because the steak was a little rare and 5 star restaurants have always gotten it correct. Also felt the I overall experience was a bit overpriced. However, I can heartily recommend The Old Hickory Steakhouse as a wonderful destination restaurant and wish we lived locally to visit more often."

  • "The food was subpar. Steaks were on the same price scale of a fine steakhouse (e.g. The Palm, Ruth's Chris, etc) but definitely were not of the same quality. Even worse, however, was the hostess this past Saturday night. We were having a drink in the bar area when she rushed us to our table. We obliged thinking that maybe the restaurant was crowded and that she was trying to keep reservations on schedule. However, the restaurant was empty when we sat down and empty when we left. Despite our reservation for six people, the table was set for seven. It took the restaurant about 15 minutes to remove one place setting while we sat there uncomfortably. In the end, our server was friendly, but the rest of the service was horrible."

  • "I thought the entire experience at this restaurant was over the top! From the time I arrive until I departed, everybody did their best to give you the attention and service I deserve and everything was perfect...perfect place setting, atmosphere, table/chairs, location, and delicious food. Can't complain about a thing!"

  • "For this dinner the theme was were is my waiter? My seating was fair. I strongly suggest if you make reservations at this restaurant asked for the main dining area and window seating. The view of the Potomac River is very good. My waiter was always in a hurry and his uniform was stained and unclean. We had the mussels for our appetizer. Seasoned well but smelled kind of fishy. Advised the waiter to take them off our check and decided to stick with the main entrees. My wife ordered the fillet with a cheese topping, and I ordered the cowboy ribeye steak. Was expecting the worse and the fillet and ribeye were very good. The vintage cheese was awesome. Pricey but if you are lover of great tasting steak, this is the place for you."

  • "Ambiance was very classy & sophisticated! Service was very professional & welcoming. The staff was friendly & our server, Vincent, was polite, professional, patient & very knowledge about the food & wine. He described the food in a way that left our mouth watering & anticipating the taste of the food. He was surely accurate! Vincent went over & beyond to make sure that our experience was satisfying! I appreciate him for making my husband's bday dinner & out out of town guest such a joyful experience. We will definitely return."

  • "We went as a party of 6 - arrived by limo since it was a special occasion. Happy our waiter was the best. The view was psectabular as the sun set. Steaks were delicious - done just as we requested. The "cheese ladies" hooked us up for dessert. Jeff ordered the marshmallow milkshake for dessert - it even came with a chocolate dipped bacon strip as your "swizzle stick". Fabulous start to finish and worth every penny."

  • "Great steak and desserts - the strawberry sorbet was outstanding! My husband and I enjoyed our romantic dinner for valentine's day. The wine list is extensive and we found a decent wine for a decent price."

  • "Once I realized that the restaurant I booked was inside the Gaylord, I was apprehensive since Katsucon was going on...however, that didn't pose any challenges. We were seated early and the restaurant was fairly empty and quiet. While the food was good --good steak at a steakhouse...the service was awkward. Our server was a tad brusque, although he was attentive enough. I noted how the staff didn't seem to like each other much. I even overhead a couple of comments from our server about how the helpers weren't going to help him ...there was just a feeling that none of them really wanted to be there. The cheese 'expert' didn't seem much of an expert and seemed to relied on our server to decide which cheeses she should serve me."

  • "Pricey but well worth the experience. We go there as a group for special occasions and celebrations. If you can, always request a table facing the Potomac."
