Diner Reviews
  • "Third time back. Once a year on our annual trek back to Hilton Head we typically go to the Old Fort Pub. This year the food as before has been consistently good. The ambiance is romantic and depending on the timing in the evening the view as the sunsets is phenomenal. Our seating was later this year. The waiter was hurried to have us finish and multiple times came back to see if were were ready to pay the bill. Ultimately we settled and paid the bill without having desert. - a bit unusual as an experience for us at this restaurant. This has no deterred me from returning next year - however I was caught off guard."

  • "I would highly recommend the Old Fort Pub. The food, service and setting were all impeccable. Sunset was a sight to behold. Greta place for a special occasion or just a treat!"

  • "WE have been enjoying dinners at the Old Fort Pub for 20+ years. The location & view are exceptional and the food is very good as well. WE do think it is time to freshen up the interior decor. Other than that we always have a good meal and experience at TOFP>"

  • "The restaurant and setting is excellent. Food and wine were very good but the service could be better. It is a strange place to get to, you have to drive through a neighborhood development to get to it. It is worth the effort."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Old Fort Pub. It's a lovely restaurant with a gorgeous view and a varied menu. We were with two teenagers and we all found something we liked a lot on the menu. "

  • "Our experience was excellent, from the scenic overlook to the service, wine list, food- I will definitely visit again when in Hikton Head Island. Make a reservation for a bit before sunset and ask for a window table... And, try the pecan chocolate pie- if you need to, take it with you! It was scrumptious! -Sherri & Rick"

  • "We took 2 couples as a thank you. Everyone had different appetizers, entrees and deserts and only one complaint--that the cheese cake was bland. It is high priced so dont let the name or the "30.00 pp" fool you. With wine, tax and tip it came out to approximately $100.00 per person. It was a most enjoyable evening and a lovely thank you gift."

  • "First, the good news: the food and the views remain excellent. The rest: looks like total management breakdown; despite advanced reservation, 40 minute extra wait for a table and repeated suggestions we eat outside, despite the cool weather and no one else eating outside. The hostess was just unprepared. Her fellow host had a scowl on his face and never acknowledged us until just before the check came. Typical of the wait staff were the questions they asked about our meal and immediately turn around and walk away before waiting for a response; all very mechanical, none professional. We will try once more, next Spring hoping for better attitudes and management professional skills."

  • "Best find in a long time. Excellent food and wine selection but more importantly food was delicious. Best duck I have eaten anywhere including France and Switzerland. Service was very attentive and the Sunset was special. Was there with a party of 7 people and everyone felt the same way."

  • "We've eaten here every times we've visited Hilton Head, which is about once or twice a year, and have been doing this for about twenty years. Thank goodness, it never seems to change, because it would be too risky to attempt even minor improvements. While our request for a window table has rarely been honored, all tables have a great view of the waterway, the sea marsh, and the moss draped live oaks. It is particularly spectacular at sunset. In fact, the view is so good, I think we'd be tempted to eat here, even if the food was not outstanding. But in fact the food matches the view. It's on a level with the finest restaurants in New York City. In addition the wine list is superb."

  • "Romantic weekend getaway to Hilton Head Island... We arrived a little before sunset and were immediately seated at a quiet table for two in the corner with a great window view of the water and sunset. We tried the She Crab Soup which I had seen a lot of positive reviews on. This was by far the best She Crab Soup I have ever had. We each got a salad which were both great as well. When it came to the main course, I had the Shellfish Cakes and she had the Shrimp and Campanelle Pasta. These were both delicious. For dessert we had their famous Pecan Pie with vanilla ice cream, one of the best I have had. Our server was fantastic. After dinner, I asked my girlfriend to marry me in the parking lot. She said YES. Thanks for setting the mood."

  • "Everything was top notch from the setting to the food and service. The view was spectacular and the sunset was wonderful. We were a group of 10 and there was no problems getting the food to us. The staff had no problem giving us separate bills nor did they charge us for a large group tipping rate."

  • "ordered the chicken breast with a stuffing that was to include figs. it came with apricots instead of figs. complained to the waiter and he said, "yes, they didn't have any figs so they used apricots". no apology after the fact and more importantly did not tell me that there was going to be a substitution when I placed my order."

  • "This is a very good restaurant. The food has exceptional taste thanks to a great Chef, the service is super and the ambience outstanding. However, on this visit, I went against my better judgment and ordered a flat iron steak which was a special on the menu for the night. While the taste was excellent, the meat was very tough and difficult to cut and chew which was not enjoyable. I rejected this menu choice early on because I know it is usually very thin and tough but ordered it anyway when a guest at another table ordered the steak. Old Fort would be wise to eliminate entrees of this nature which more often than not, turnout less than expected."

  • "My husband and I recently had dinner at this restaurant and really enjoyed everything. We were visiting Hilton Head for our anniversary. The view from our table was very beautiful and we had a view of the sunset. Our meal was superb. I had the pork loin dinner and my husband had the grouper. Both dishes were cooked very well and even the vegetables done nicely with very tasty sauces. The wait staff were very attentive. We would highly recommend this restaurant especially for a special occasion."

  • "We're snowbirds who like to dine around, but this was our first visit to Old Fort Pub. The ambience was very comfortable, the food was excellent, and the service was impeccable. We finished dinner just as the sun set across Skull Creek, giving a beautiful end to a wonderful evening."

  • "We had a 6:30 reservation and waited at least 20 minutes for a table. We were told they were serving a wine dinner and they were very busy and had a limited number of "open table" tables. I thought when you make a reservation thru "open table" you are given available times! If we had known they had a wine dinner we would have chosen a different time or even a different night. Once we were seated we had very good service."

  • "What an outstanding meal! Everything from the chef s onion appetizer (gratis) to the truffles served at the end of the meal was great. Top picks for the meal: Seafood boulebaise. It was in a light pink sauce and was full of seafood. In addition, the pecan pie was terrific. I would recommend it highly!"

  • "Old Fort Pub provided an awesome experience on our anniversary. Before you reach the front door you know you've chosen the right spot. Mature trees drape the lawn, moss dangling above, dimly lit property (we went at night) with the backdrop of water transforming the restaurant into a magical retreat. The staff was highly attentive, cordial and most importantly the food was awesome! Dress more on the formal side as if you are out to celebrate a special romantic evening and Old Fort Pub will handle the rest."

  • "The Old Fort Pub provided us with a very enjoyable evening of dining. The Old Fort offers a somewhat quieter dining experience than many of Hilton Head's tourist oriented restaurants. The food was fresh, high quality, and well prepared. The Old Fort's dining room is nicely appointed and very attractive , yet does not feel "stuffy"; plus it offers a gorgeous view of Scull Creek and surrounding Low Country. Overall a very nice restaurant offering high quality food in a civilized setting."

  • "As always....... a perfect dinner at The Old Fort Pub. I had the bouillabaisse, which NEVER disappoints and my sister had the skirt steak, which she still hasn't stopped talking about. Shrimp and Grits was the special, and we wished we had brought a third person with us so we could have tasted that too! Service is always 5 star, and last night was no exception."

  • "We were not told about early bird Menu or special they were having 3 for $33. We had to ask. Secondly. They totally figured the check all wrong. Charging us full price when we had the 3 for $33 special. Not a good practice for a nice place. I felt that they wanted us to order off the main menu which was higher on price."

  • "This was our second time at Old Fort Pub. The appetizers were quite good but not particularly inventive. We ordered the She Crab Soup and beet salad. My dinner was swordfish steak --- it was dry --- with fennel, caraway sauce and a big mound of mashed potato. I didn't expect the mashed potato and am not a big fan. Then, we made the mistake of ordering dessert -- pecan pie that the server recommended and lemon tart. Really just average lemon tart. The pecan pie had so much chocolate sauce that one could not really taste the pecans. I personally would not return, given the price and atmosphere that is a bit stuffy."

  • "As usual our experience was down right outstanding! We had friends visiting from Flat Rock, NC and asked for a window table as it was their first time dining at Old Fort Pub. We arrived in time to enjoy a beautiful sunset with a champagne toast. Our friends were swept off their feet by the ambiance, excellent service and superb food. We all commented that this would be a wonderful, intimate place to have a wedding followed by a reception dinner. What a gem. We'll be back again."

  • "We had a very nice meal -- the early bird was an exceptionally good deal. The service was good, and the meal was nicely paced. Our only complaint was that, as the first customers for dinner, we were given a lovely table in the corner. However, a couple minutes later, the next to arrive were seated at the table right next to us, when there were 35+ other open tables in the restaurant. We heard every word of their conversation for the next half-hour, until the restaurant got busier. What upscale restaurant seats in that manner?"
