  • "Good for a nice lunch while we were touring close to the White House. The center section is the oldest section original to the restaurant. The food was good, but nothing particularly special. "

  • "We went to the Old Ebbitt Grill based on Open Table recommendations. We were expecting something nicer. The atmosphere had much to be desired. There was a huge crowd waiting by the front. Very touristy. Strollers were lined up in the waiting area. The food was good. We got calamari and the mixed seafood appetizers. Would not get the calamari again but the seafood was amazing. Crab cakes were good but my husband's liver was over cooked. Can definiy bring kids here and the dress code is very casual (felt overdressed in a spring sundress). Good place to go if you are looking for a casual, family friendly place that is better then a chain restaurant. "

  • "You must try the Oyster stew - it is to die for!! The steaks are pretty darn good too. It is so large, you are seated within 10 minutesw, no matter what. Your car: always a place to park with them your car for the day if you want. "

  • "Whether you are looking for a romantic date spot or just a fun dining experience, Old Ebbitt Grill has it all. From the rustic wood decor' to the paintings on the wall, the atmosphere is something that you will never forget. The food is excellent as well. They have everything from burgers to steaks and seafood, they have it all. We were there for our wedding anniversary and enjoyed the experience very much. If we ever get back to D.C this will be the first place we visit."

  • "Besides the history, the location is fantastic. Make sure you make a reservation thru OpenTable... upon arrival we saw a HUGE crowd, and found wait time was over an hour. We got there at 7:55pm for an 8:00pm ressie we did make online, and we were seated exactly at 8:00pm. I don't recall the last time I was seated at my exact time. The waitress was fantastic, the food was amazing, and we enjoyed a couple of drinks while taking in the atmosphere mix of what seemed few locals and lots of tourists. So however you travel into DC, make sure the first stop is OEG. "

  • "Great food and service. Kind of nuts because it is tourist season. I am a regular."

  • "We had such a wonderful meal at Old Ebbitt Grill. We ordered the Maine cod and the crab cake. Neither one was a disappointment and the cod simply melted in your mouth. The immaculate table setting and the waiters in long aprons were a nice touch. We made reservations and were glad we did. It was packed!"

  • "The bread is outstanding and so is the clam chowder. This was only my second visit, but I can't wait to go back and try a few other things. The waitress we had provided some of the best service I've ever been given."

  • "I enjoyed oysters, ruben sandwich, and chili. but my wife did not care for the seafood salad. The tables for 2 are very small and cramped together. Service was very slow and server was polite but not very attentive. We like "Old Ebbitt" and usually rate it 4-5. We will return but this time it was just OK. "

  • "Unfortunately, even with a reservation we were 15 minutes late being seated and then shunted into an auxiliary courtyard type setting. One goes to the Ebbit Grill to enjoy the ambiance of the main restaurant, not to be shunted out of the main stream."

  • "This was a great dining experience!! Excellent food, terrific service and wonderful wine!! Highly recommend this for a night out, brunch and special occasions!!"

  • "Old Ebbitt has been one of my favorite places in DC for so long...with all the rich wood and brass decor and the proximity to Washington power centers, I sometimes forget just how delicious the food is! But it is always great for a work lunch or family dinner and a great spot to impress out-of-towners!"

  • "I made reservations 2 months in advance and they tried to seat me in the mall area outside the restaurant. I made them move us but only table was in the bar, and we had 2 kids with us. The oysters were great, but the rest of the meal was underwhelmingly bland. Sad that this place is moreije a Ruby Tuesday's than the cool old school restaurant in the past. "

  • "Extremely crowded, noisy, average food but expensive. The service was good."

  • "I started with some oysters on the half shell and they were perfect. The Seafood Jambalaya was excellent. After the meal we went to the side bar for an after dinner drink and thankfully the bartender Mike talked us into having the Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding. OMG it was unbelievable."

  • "The food wasn't best that I experienced in DC, but the atmosphere and the history of the restaurant was really what convinced me to come in first place, and on that note, The Old Ebbitt Grill delivered! Lots of charm and in the building itself, and with a list of notable VIP guests that had eaten there throughout the years, I figured it would be worth checking out :)"

  • "Very good, very friendly service. A bit on the noisy side. 3 of the 4 of us had very good meals. I'd pass on the gumbo and jambalaya. Dessert was excellent and the cocktails worthwhile. Wouldn't hesitate to dine there again."

  • "Just next door to the White House, this restaurant had an interesting choice of dishes on the menu (we were there for a late lunch) and the staff was quite knowledgeable about its history. The entrees were good - my husband loved his roasted turkey sandwich and my chicken cherriyaki was good. It's very noisy, however - I believe someone mentioned in another review an enclosed courtyard that was quieter but I forgot to ask for it. The dessert, btw, was out of this world! A warm blondie with vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, whipped cream and some other yummy sauce. Overall, we are glad we chose this place, and opentable was a great way to make reservations. And you do need reservations!"

  • "My husband and I always go to Old Ebbit Grill when we want to meet our DC friends for lunch/dinner. The food is always good. As long as you make a reservation you won't have to stress over a wait but plan to spend sometime at the bar if you arrive during prime time."

  • "The restaurant was great. The food was good. The waitresses was very friendly (I wish I remembered her name). If you are looking for a quiet restaurant then this is not a good place for you as it gets pretty loud there. Overall I'd recommend it to anyone. Location was perfect (right next to the White house)."

  • "We took a couple of older ladies to lunch because they both enjoy oysters and clams on the half shell. The restaurant has various sizes of "Walrus Platters" consisting of raw oysters, clams and iced shrimp. We ordered a platter, and it was so good, our guests jumped at the opportunity when I suggested a second platter. We then had soup as our entree. The staff was accommodating and kind to our less mobile friends. The friendly valet service capped off a perfect outing."

  • "It was a wonderful place to celebrate our engagement, they accommodated all our requests and the staff knew the menu really well and worked with my food allergy. The food is excellent and both times I have been there (4yrs apart) have been a wonderful memory and the food quality is still excellent"

  • "A DC landmark and wonderful place for brunch. Bloody Mary's and Eggs Chesapeake were outstanding. Wait staff were extremely attentive and made sure all was perfect! A wonderful morning! And valet parking makes it that much better!!"

  • "We heard about this place through websites and people who already visited D.C and we loved it. We went there for brunch and it was amazing!! The food was delicious and the host was kind and the waiter was helpful and efficient with the service but then the crowd started to grow and it seemed like our waiter was the only one taking everyone's order hence the delay in our desert and check but the other waiter saw us waiting for good 15-20 mins and she took over and made sure we were taken care of.. So all in all no complains!"

  • "We have been to The Old Ebbitt Grill on several occasions but never for breakfast. My husband and I both had the poached eggs with oysters on english muffins with cheese grits. Excellent light and fresh hollandaise sauce over the eggs made the dish wonderful. They were very crowded that morning due to Cherry Blossoms, but the service was outstanding. We will be adding this place to our breakfast venue, not just for lunch or dinner anymore!"

  • "I was a bit nervous booking over the internet and could not have been more pleasantly surprised. It was extraordinarily crowded- Cherry Blossoms- but we had the best table in the house within a few minutes. The Ebbitt is a family tradition-- and has kept us well-fed since my grandparents worked in the White House in THE COOLIDGE ADMINISTRATION! I took my youngest sister to D.C. April 12 and 13 to revisit some family history (great uncle was also Treasurer at the National Gallery of Art and his ashes are scattered in a garden there) and we were thrilled that the Old Ebbitt we have always known and loved is still at the top of it's game. Great waiter, delicious food, happening crowd, it sparkled. Thank you for the beautiful new memory."

  • "Last time I checked, when you order a steak you usually get a steak knife. The steak came out without one so we asked the guy who brought it out for one. He wasn't very friendly. Our actual waiter never returned to check on us until we were halfway through the meal. Bread never arrived like he told us it would so we had to ask for that when our food came as well. I have had much better service there... No complaints about our meal."

  • "The menu is varied. We had 4 people in our group; we each ordered something different and shared it. The food was fantastic- salmon, crab cakes, pork chop and steak. Wine is reasonably priced. Oysters are great. Service is excellent. We will go there every time we visit D.C."
