  • "Very good, very friendly service. A bit on the noisy side. 3 of the 4 of us had very good meals. I'd pass on the gumbo and jambalaya. Dessert was excellent and the cocktails worthwhile. Wouldn't hesitate to dine there again."

  • "Just next door to the White House, this restaurant had an interesting choice of dishes on the menu (we were there for a late lunch) and the staff was quite knowledgeable about its history. The entrees were good - my husband loved his roasted turkey sandwich and my chicken cherriyaki was good. It's very noisy, however - I believe someone mentioned in another review an enclosed courtyard that was quieter but I forgot to ask for it. The dessert, btw, was out of this world! A warm blondie with vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, whipped cream and some other yummy sauce. Overall, we are glad we chose this place, and opentable was a great way to make reservations. And you do need reservations!"

  • "Finished off a whirlwind day of sightseeing at the Ebbitt. The food was wonderful. It will definitely be a stop on the list when we the city visit again."

  • "As always, Ebbitt never fails. The food is great, the service is outstanding and the atmosphere is exciting. Make a reservation and you won't wait. Thanks for always providing great food and service."

  • "My husband and I always go to Old Ebbit Grill when we want to meet our DC friends for lunch/dinner. The food is always good. As long as you make a reservation you won't have to stress over a wait but plan to spend sometime at the bar if you arrive during prime time."

  • "The restaurant was great. The food was good. The waitresses was very friendly (I wish I remembered her name). If you are looking for a quiet restaurant then this is not a good place for you as it gets pretty loud there. Overall I'd recommend it to anyone. Location was perfect (right next to the White house)."

  • "We took a couple of older ladies to lunch because they both enjoy oysters and clams on the half shell. The restaurant has various sizes of "Walrus Platters" consisting of raw oysters, clams and iced shrimp. We ordered a platter, and it was so good, our guests jumped at the opportunity when I suggested a second platter. We then had soup as our entree. The staff was accommodating and kind to our less mobile friends. The friendly valet service capped off a perfect outing."

  • "I strongly recommend this place! A reservation is a must however."

  • "It was a wonderful place to celebrate our engagement, they accommodated all our requests and the staff knew the menu really well and worked with my food allergy. The food is excellent and both times I have been there (4yrs apart) have been a wonderful memory and the food quality is still excellent"

  • "We heard about this place through websites and people who already visited D.C and we loved it. We went there for brunch and it was amazing!! The food was delicious and the host was kind and the waiter was helpful and efficient with the service but then the crowd started to grow and it seemed like our waiter was the only one taking everyone's order hence the delay in our desert and check but the other waiter saw us waiting for good 15-20 mins and she took over and made sure we were taken care of.. So all in all no complains!"

  • "We have been to The Old Ebbitt Grill on several occasions but never for breakfast. My husband and I both had the poached eggs with oysters on english muffins with cheese grits. Excellent light and fresh hollandaise sauce over the eggs made the dish wonderful. They were very crowded that morning due to Cherry Blossoms, but the service was outstanding. We will be adding this place to our breakfast venue, not just for lunch or dinner anymore!"

  • "I was a bit nervous booking over the internet and could not have been more pleasantly surprised. It was extraordinarily crowded- Cherry Blossoms- but we had the best table in the house within a few minutes. The Ebbitt is a family tradition-- and has kept us well-fed since my grandparents worked in the White House in THE COOLIDGE ADMINISTRATION! I took my youngest sister to D.C. April 12 and 13 to revisit some family history (great uncle was also Treasurer at the National Gallery of Art and his ashes are scattered in a garden there) and we were thrilled that the Old Ebbitt we have always known and loved is still at the top of it's game. Great waiter, delicious food, happening crowd, it sparkled. Thank you for the beautiful new memory."

  • "Last time I checked, when you order a steak you usually get a steak knife. The steak came out without one so we asked the guy who brought it out for one. He wasn't very friendly. Our actual waiter never returned to check on us until we were halfway through the meal. Bread never arrived like he told us it would so we had to ask for that when our food came as well. I have had much better service there... No complaints about our meal."

  • "Excellent food, especially the crab cakes. Great service and wonderful decor."

  • "The menu is varied. We had 4 people in our group; we each ordered something different and shared it. The food was fantastic- salmon, crab cakes, pork chop and steak. Wine is reasonably priced. Oysters are great. Service is excellent. We will go there every time we visit D.C."

  • "My fiancee and I went here because we heard about the raw bar during happy hour ! We both love oysters so we had to stop by this place while on a day trip to DC. The food was amazing! The oysters were fresh and clean and tasted like heaven! We ended up getting two more orders of oysters! Stopping here was worth every penny and you cant beat the prices for fresh oysters in DC. We will definitely be returning in the near future!"

  • "The menu is innovative from salads and sandwiches to dessert. The bar tender was exceptional in running an excellent and attentive afternoon of thirsty patrons waiting for tables during the peak cherry blossom festival! The ambience is satisfying and classic. Old Ebbit Grill made a family gathering a special occasion in the heart of Washington, DC."

  • "Typical American cuisine. Food is good but not spectacular but a great place to bring out of town guests to lunch at a land mark and tell them the historical significance of the place. Fun place to dine."

  • "Old Ebbitt is consistently good. When I lived in D.C., we always took friends/visitors to Old Ebbitt and then a short walk to see the White illumunicated at night. Crabcakes are some of the best in the area and their oysters are phenomenal. Now that I no longer live in D.C., it's a must for me whenever I return."

  • "The menu has changes seasonally, but also keeps the restaurants favorite items. I recommend the New England Clam Chowder, Crab Cakes. The Oysters are out of this world, must have as an appetizer."

  • "Spent the day with friends touring Washington and ended our day at the perfect place. The food, service and surroundings were the perfect way to spend time with friends, relaxing and enjoying a fabulous meal. Love the decor. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. Every entree was cooked to perfection and the desserts were well worth every calorie. If your in DC, I highly recommend stopping in for dinner. Reservations are highly recommended."

  • "Our experience at Old Ebbitt Grill after the Cherry Blossom 10-miler was great - fun atmosphere and the food, as always, was awesome! Old Ebbitt Grill is a favorite of ours and I highly recommend making reservations prior to going. If you do not make reservations though, just pull up to one of the bars and enjoy drinks and you can eat at the bars! On April 6, the bartenders, waitstaff, and cooks did a great job and deserve kudos for a great Sunday! Until next time as I know I will return many more times!"

  • "Flew in from Florida to meet my son for a meal. Location is right next to the White House - easy to locate. The place was packed at 7pm on a Wednesday night. Glad I made a reservation! We were seated 15 minutes after arrival in a comfortable velvet cushioned booth. Though the sound level was loud, we were able to make conversation quite easily. The menu fit both our needs - cheeseburger & beer for him and pasta & wine for me. The server accommodated our every request. It being a small world, she was even familiar with our Florida hometown - what a delight! Even on a busy night, we never felt rushed to end our meal. We were too full for dessert, but I will put this place on my list to return to - anytime I am in Washington, DC."

  • "This restaurant is an institution in DC, with many years of history and a prime location for visitors to the capital. Definitely make reservations well in advance and don't expect a quiet, intimate dining experience unless you have booked a private room --- this place is always packed and noisy, but the food is delicious and well served."

  • "This well known eatery has lasted decades for a reason: great location, wonderful food, comfortable, excellent service, and despite the crowds, with reservations we were shooed right in. The trout was a specialty and justifiably, but a lot of food, and we could have spit an order easily. Garlic potatoes and broccoli with it were perfectly cooked. One in our party had the salmon and raved about it. I will definitely recommend it to members of my future groups coming to DC. Really nice evening all around."

  • "All of our trips to DC we eat at your restaurant and always look forward to a different menu. Our last one was a treat on April 6 with Catfish, Green peas, black eye peas and kale in a ham broth. How much more southern can you get. We also had a wonderful desert. Thanks for always being there and one can get reservations very easily. Inez and Billy"
