The waitress was eager to make a recommendation for wine, based on our type of food and seemed very confident. I considered it low hassle, but she was always around to ensure our drinks were filled. Never felt pressured to order or leave. Highly recommended for many different types of dining, because of the variety of patrons.

My husband and our two young adult children all had a wonderful dinner on a Saturday night in D.C. The restaurant is filled with U.S. historical artifacts and the service was great. The calamari appetizer (could have been an entrée) was delicious as were the crab cakes. Can't wait to go back and try everything else on the menu!

This is a very popular, bustling place within walking distance of the White House. My husband and I went for our anniversary dinner and enjoyed the historic feel but I would not recommend it for romance. It is very noisy and close quarters. The menu had an large selection but not overwhelming. We both had the crab cakes which were excellent. The staff was very friendly and attentive.

My husband and I have long enjoyed travelling to Annapolis and enjoying oyster shooters and other raw bar treats. But with three kids we don't often have the time to go across the bridge. A friend told us about Old Ebbitt Grill, which we were both familiar with but didn't know they featured a raw bar. We ordered the Orca Platter, a smorgasbord of oysters, shrimp, clams, crab legs and lobster. It was FABULOUS.

1st night, 1st restaurant. We were early so we sat in the bar to wait for our table. We got the wine list and ordered a nice bottle of wine. $100 range. The bartender wouldn't let us transfer our tab so we paid for it at the bar. When we got our table, our server saw we had our wine already, gave us menus and never came back. He waited on the surrounding tables. 20-30 mins later, we asked for another table. After getting seated again, the manager stopped by to find out what happened because he wanted to make sure the employee could handle the tables he was given. Not apologetic to us at all. Crab cake was awesome but Oyamel, Legal, Capital Grill and Hamilton had far better service and food overall.

I don't get out as much as I like but when I do I have fairly high standards. I have been here three times over the last 6 months. Overall, I have been disappointed. The menu is average and the preparation and presentation of the food should be better for what they charge you.

We live in the DC ares so often pass Old Ebbitt Grill on our ventures near the National Mall. For his birthday, my fiance suggested we try it out, and we had a fabulous time - great draft beer selection, "affordable upscale" dining, and a friendly, unpretentious atmosphere. I had the crab cake dinner. The crab cake was truly one of the best I've had in the area! My only wish was that there was more. My fiance had the Maine lobster special and they chefs even split the tail, claws, etc. to ease eating.

My husband ordered the pork chop and I told the waiter "well done", The pork chop was raw in the middle and we had to send it back. Four of us had an excellent lunch for $200.000 excluding beverage. That's because I brought in a bottle of red wine (all the way from Florida) from my collection. The 2008 St. Supery Rutherford Merlot was unbelievable with the Salmon Salad. Norman had the floor while we were there and was quite pleasant. He also enjoyed a taste of the Merlot. Another plus was the corkage fee was very fair. This is a first class dining establishment. Will return.

This was our second time to the Olde Ebbitts Grill; the first time we happened upon it with our at that time 7 after an exhausted walk around DC. This time it was no accident as we were enchanted the first time. My wife and I arrived late in DC on a business trip excited to dine there after a long day commute. It was superb; my soft shell crab with grits and corn was the best I have ever had. My wife had the crab cake which was also superlative; great and generous lump meat with just a little delicious filling. Started with fresh oysters.... Divine

Planned a birthday dinner for a coworker during our recent visit. They acknowledged her birthday immediately and also brought her a personalized dessert at the end of our otherwise in impressive meal. The crab cakes are the safest order on the menu. Delicious and actually full of crab! Negatives: Lobster tail served saturated with bodily fluids making it really disgusting to look at or taste. Meatball sliders were supposed to be hot but were served COLD. If it wasn't for the ambiance I wouldn't return but it's still great service and affordable prices across the street from the White House. A great spot to have a drink and usually a great place to grab a bite. I won't give up in it next time in in DC but I'm disappointed with the food.

We enjoyed our Anniversary dinner here with a host of raw bar items. The quality of the seafood was, for the most part, the best we have had in the city. The architecture is grand and the service impeccable, however many fellow diners are overly casual, creating an off-putting atmosphere. But don't let that keep you from excellent food and discreet yet friendly service.

We love eating under the gaze of Teddy Roosevelt's stuffed big game in the classic dark wood bar. Martini's come to the table still in their shaker - very cold. The fresh seafood is always good and the raw bar includes crab claws and shrimp for those who don't want the raw oysters. Local cheese pate also makes a good starter with peach compote and toasted raisin bread. The 1 1/4 lb steamed lobster is a bargain, but we went for the lobster pie with parmesan mashed potato crust and were not disappointed.

I've been to Old Ebbitt Grill several times and have always been pleased with food. I always get the Trout Parmasean with mashed potatoes and spinach - and its always good.
