  • "Crowded, have to figure for the location as the food I was served was barely eatable. Four cocktail shrimp were small for $3.50 a piece, and while ice cold were mealy and without any flavor. Followed by roasted beet salad that lovely, had great sear marks but zero taste. I mean totally zero. There was a dressing on the beets and they were bedded in a soft goat cheese, cannot figure why it all tasted of really absolutely nothing. Wow, hard to do! Ice tea was good, but took about 10 minutes to get my second glass. Tablemates seemed ok with their chili and eggplant...hopefully I just ordered wrong, as a kitchen under Clydes's management and in such a historic setting should be MUCH better."

  • "OEG is consistently fabulous. A must-do on any trip to DC."

  • "I really wanted to give 5 stars and the only reason I couldn't was because the food was only okay. For the steep prices the food should have been much better. The service was outstanding and the ambience was perfect. It also took quite a long time for us to be served (about 30 minutes)."

  • "Wow - I can't say enough.....I've recently had both dinner and brunch and both times the service was impeccable, food was superb and the prices are extremely reasonable"

  • "I carefully chose Old Ebbitt Grill during a recent visit to Washington to take my parents for lunch as it was conveniently located, its green-velveted main dining room appeared quite appealing and the food seemed to be acceptable. However, from the moment we stepped into the restaurant, we were "welcomed" by the most unpleasant "host" at the main counter. The "host" looked despondent at best while doing his job and, when he finally got to call a server to show us to our table, he frowned at me and told the server "take this 'Ana Izar' and party to a table", while also rolling his eyes. This unusual rudeness and bad customer orientation prevailed during the whole meal - which we also had in a corner area detached from the main dining room."

  • "After being recommended by a tour guide, we only had time to go to Old Ebbit on purl sat day just before leaving for the airport. It was amazing! The crab dip was outstanding, as was the clam chowder. In fact, all our meals were terrific. Next time in Washington DC, we are going to make it a dinner spot! Can't wait!"

  • "In DC for business and went on a Tuesday evening. The oysters were the best I've ever had. All the food was wonderful...This is not the place to go if you want to have a conversation without yelling. The place is very loud and diners are packed on top of one another. However, my experience is that most popular DC restaurants are like this."

  • "Old Ebbitt's was bustling and lively, but the room we sat in in he back was perfect. Full of people great decor but not too noisy. I would not want to sit at their "outdoor" tables in the adjacent mall. Now about the food...no question there! We tried everything and it was all great. We had 3 kinds of raw oysters, cold shrimp and fried oysters. Yum! Everything was so fresh. Then salad with beets, fresh cherries and pinenuts for me and clam chowder for my friends. For the main course crab cakes, salmon and cod. Each perfectly prepared, sauced and so fresh. Cheese board for desert. Lovely dry French Rosé to go with. You can't go wrong at Old Ebbits Grill."

  • "The restaurant is a legend, and it lived up to its billing. Great ambience, great service, great food."

  • "Steak ordered medium--rare, server (not waiter) brought out steak that was medium-well. Waiter had entered the order wrong in the computer--it was right on his hand notes. He said that they would cook another steak. Another steak appeared in less than two minutes. It was medium well. It was cooked more than my wife's steak which was medium and cooked properly. When they said they would correct their error, I expect them to do so. Also sat in the atrium area of the restaurant which had a slight musty smell. Otherwise, the meal was excellent."

  • "Our waiter was excellent in trying to make up for the flying food, crying, tantrums, etc. Food was wonderful and I'm glad we experienced this historic venue."

  • "This is a great restaurant. Be aware, however, that there are two distinct areas: the pub/grill with an old English style ambiance dripping in antiques and charm, and the atrium which is more of a faux al fresco section cordoned off from a lobby area. When I made reservations, I was unaware of these two separate areas. Since I had two children with me (13-year-old and 8-year-old) the atrium suited us just fine. However, if I wanted a romantic dinner or more of an upscale experience, I would have been disappointed and would have wished I were in the pub/grill area. The atrium is nice but the acoustics are poor and sound travels."

  • "I had the dinner at Old Ebbit Grill with my family on July 6th. We definitely had a blast; the food is fresh and amazing but not too pricey. The service and the atmosphere were perfect; I'd recommend all my friends who'd have a chance to stop by."

  • "Yep. We ate brunch here and enjoyed it so much that we later returned for drinks and lunch. Great decor. Although the restaurant has been around for over 150 years, this is not the original spot. It has moved 3 times. However, you could have fooled me. It looks like the original grille. Great food and very friendly service. I thoroughly enjoyed my eggs Long Island (a version of eggs Benedict) with dijon hollandaise sauce, spinach, and fried oysters (it is an oyster house afterall). The cocktail menu looked interesting but too early too drink so we went back later for drinks and lunch. The Riot Burger was fabulous as was the red and yellow beet salad! I also had a cocktail with muddled strawberry and rhubarb. SO good!"

  • "This restaurant is a great find in Downtown Washington D.C. It isn't a quiet restaurant but actually very loud which adds to the ambience. It is definitely for the young business crowd and the servers did a phenomenal job with ensuring that food and beverages were delivered in an efficient manner. I would highly recommend it."

  • "This is a not to miss gem. Classic DC spot where history and elegance meets. We loved everything from the hosts to the wine. Our seafood was too die for. We enjoyed every second of our dinner. I could not have asked for a more romantic dinner with my boyfriend as we were seated in a corner booth, even though the place was extremely busy, we felt completely alone. This was worth the money and the very very little wait we had."

  • "We were in town for the 4th of July and had read a review on Old Ebbitt's and just had to try it! We absolutely loved it and plan on making it a stop the next time we are in DC!"

  • "This is our go to place for lunch, brunch, or dinner! We love to take our out of town guests here for a little flavor of D.C. After our meal, we walk to the White House and the monument! The raw bar is the best ever! We even have gone with our little ones, during the day, and the staff was very accommodating."

  • "My filet steak was great and very well priced. The wine pairing was also excellent and a bargain. My only complaint is the everything is just too rushed. The crab cakes were tasty but no better than the ones I has has Nationals Park. Way too much breading."

  • "We have lived in the area for years and Old Ebbitt Grill is one of our go-tos with out-of-town guests. It is a Washington DC treasure!"

  • "Many people suggested going here for dinner because it is a DC must. We were seated right away and it was very crowded. The food was good but not great. The service was ok not very attentive. If I was to go back it would be to check out the bar scene other than that I would say been there, done that."

  • "I happened to run across this restaurant on the Open Table app and we were close by so we decided to give it a try. It ended up being one of the best meals we had on our vacation. The Riot Burger was sooo good!! The fresh oysters were also great and the server told us where each oyster was from. The crab cakes were so good, they tasted smooth like butter. The kids enjoyed it. The staff was super helpful and friendly. Our wait was at a minimum. This in my mind is what's important. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!"

  • "We booked a reservation for the 4th at 6:30 prior to the fireworks. We were sat within 2 minutes of entering the restaurant. I heard there was a 2 hour wait & was impressed with how quickly we got in. The service was awesome and I cannot describe the delicious food in works. We started with their unique salads, order the 5 oz. filet...cooked perfectly and finished with Key Lime pie. Thank you Old Ebbitt for a memorable family dinner!"

  • "If you are looking for a fun dinner close to the Washington Monument, go to Ebbitts. Food is delicious and great selection. You can get a burger to a steak. Yummy crab & artichoke dip! Vibrant atmosphere and my 15 year old LOVED it."

  • "Three diners...two had the shrimp and angel hair and loved it! I had the classic filet mignon which was quite good but not extraordinary. We had the chicken vegetable soup which was quite good as was the asparagus tempura. No need for dessert. We were full. A relaxed and unhurried meal. Friendly and knowledgable wait staff. We enjoyed it."

  • "I booked The Old Ebbitt Grill for a late lunch on the 4th of July. I was expecting it to be a little disorganized and chaotic due to the holiday in the city, but I was pleasantly surprised. It was crowded with people, but none of the staff seemed daunted in the slightest, and it never took away from the experience. Everything was enjoyable. The food was outstanding and the drink menu delicious. This will be the first place I hit on my next trip into DC! Flawless from start to finish!"

  • "Great atmosphere! Food was good but that was due to my decision on entree. It could have been great if I had decide on a more scrumptious entree. I recommend making a reservation. It makes the whole transaction a lot less time consuming and stressful. Overall, I will definatly visit again."

  • "Celebrated my birthday on the 4 th of July. We had reservations which was a very good plan as the line out the door never stopped in the 2 hours that we were there. We went right to our table.. The only inconvenient thing is that the restrooms were downstairs and we had to navigate the line of potential diners to get to them. Don't know where wheelchair people would go."

  • "Prices are competitive for excellent quality staple foods, but $13.00 for a small wedge of quiche will always seem to expensive, no matter how many potato slices accompany. That said, I always enjoy my food and experiences in this establishment that reminds of patriotism and quality time spent within its walls."

  • "This place was great. I definitely recommend setting up a reservation, as my wife and I got in within ten minutes. We heard some groups waited as long as an hour and forty-five minutes to get in without a reservation."
