  • "We have recently moved to DC and have been to Old Ebbitt Grill several times and have never been disappointed! We have always tried a different meal and the food was always delicious. This is our favorite place to dine!"

  • "Ebbitt Grill is my number one go to place in DC for great food and drink. Their oyster selections are always outstanding. Anytime I have someone come to town I never miss bringing them to Ebbit's."

  • "We have often come to Old Ebbitt on Easter morning when the restaurant opens at 8:30. Seems it was much busier this year and as a result service was much slower than other times--both holidays and non holidays. Food was very good, although fewer breakfast items , more brunch. Service was friendly , but slow."

  • "Our evening at Old Ebbitt Grill was Outstanding. This was a repeat visit for us although we brought our adult children along with us this time. Service was topnotch. Food was delicious. This will remain a favorite for us when we visit DC in the future."

  • "the place is magnificent the atmosphere is vibrant just next to the white house but not recommendable for groups of more than 4 at all half an hour waiting for our burger, and none was cooked the way we ordered "

  • "We enjoyed the food at OEG on Easter Sunday. The hosts did a great job seating us on time for our reservation. The waitstaff service however was very poor. We weren't greeted for almost 15 minutes at our table. Our server was less than friendly and we had to ask about specials. We waited another 15 minutes for drinks. It was all without explanation. Seems like 30 minutes is way too long from getting seated to being served a drink. The table bussers were however helpful and friendly."

  • "A lot will depend on your server. In our case, he was just OK. Not really that attentive and no real follow up after order came out. Glad we saw this place and if we return it would be to sit at bar but most likely not for the dining experience "

  • "Great service, went for Easter and did not have to wait at all to get a table ;) "

  • "We were a bit concerned that this would be a touristy place...however the food was very good and the ambiance was great. Its a very nice spot and a quick walk to the White House. I would recommend this for a good dinner while visiting the Capital!"

  • "We ate at Old Ebbitt Grill twice on a recent visit to DC to visit family. Food is very good- their crab cakes are incredible. "

  • "We were told not to miss Old Ebbitts Grill for a great dining experience and we were not disappointed. While the noise level was high and the service lacked a little due to it being so busy, we still enjoyed the entire experience. Thanks Ebbitts for providing a great way to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary."

  • "Delicious dinner at Old Ebbitt. My husband used to go here with his parents and, given that and the amazing location so close to White House and our hotel, I figured it would be an "old school" menu and/or mediocre food. Instead, we got a kale salad, amazing crab cakes, delicious clam chowder and even an easy kids menu. Good salad options and flexible with substitutions and timing (kids' food first, extra soup, etc.). It was a delight. The only downside was it was crowded even at 5-5:30 pm. We ended up adding people to the reservation so they advised us to get there early (easy enough with kids!) but even then there was a 30-45 min wait and people lined up. Wow! I guess it's worth it. And thankfully they accommodated. "

  • "Great American steaks and seafood. The Crab cakes were great, and service and location are top notch. Close to the white house."

  • "This was our first night in DC with our family. I was glad I made advance reservations only waited less than 5 mins. Staff were all friendly and attentive. My daughters both had pasta house specialty, Cannelloni with spinach prosciutto in a cream sauce. They both loved it. The restaurant was very busy but service was quick and efficient. Overall a great first dining experience at a great value. Would definitely go back again."

  • "We booked a reservation ahead of time as it was recommended to us by others. we arrived late but the host still took us in even though there was an hour 40 min wait time. service was excellent!! The wine was delicious. Food was good. Great history regarding the building. Would try the brunch next time. "

  • "Went to Old Ebbitt because of its storied history...should have left it in the history books. Interesting decor...but, food crumbs on the floor. Unbelievably crowded. All and all not a great experience. Food wasn't horrible but not great either. All and all, not a pleasant experience. Would not reccomend."

  • "We we to the Old Ebbitt Grill on the recommendation of a friend while visiting D.C. Overall the experience was mid-level for us - excellent atmosphere in the bar areas but we were sat in the atrium of an office building to which the restaurant is attached. The food quality was sub-par - all four of us didn't really care for our meals even though two were house specialties. We marked this off the list as a potential return and would rather go to a lot of other great restaurants in d.c. Than this one."

  • "The service was poor. Our waiter was sarcastic and he really had bad breath. The food was barely mediocre. The only dish that was enjoyed by the five of us was the steak. It was over cooked. It was ordered medium but came well done. Was highly disappointed."

  • "Good for a nice lunch while we were touring close to the White House. The center section is the oldest section original to the restaurant. The food was good, but nothing particularly special. "

  • "We went to the Old Ebbitt Grill based on Open Table recommendations. We were expecting something nicer. The atmosphere had much to be desired. There was a huge crowd waiting by the front. Very touristy. Strollers were lined up in the waiting area. The food was good. We got calamari and the mixed seafood appetizers. Would not get the calamari again but the seafood was amazing. Crab cakes were good but my husband's liver was over cooked. Can definiy bring kids here and the dress code is very casual (felt overdressed in a spring sundress). Good place to go if you are looking for a casual, family friendly place that is better then a chain restaurant. "

  • "You must try the Oyster stew - it is to die for!! The steaks are pretty darn good too. It is so large, you are seated within 10 minutesw, no matter what. Your car: always a place to park with them your car for the day if you want. "

  • "Whether you are looking for a romantic date spot or just a fun dining experience, Old Ebbitt Grill has it all. From the rustic wood decor' to the paintings on the wall, the atmosphere is something that you will never forget. The food is excellent as well. They have everything from burgers to steaks and seafood, they have it all. We were there for our wedding anniversary and enjoyed the experience very much. If we ever get back to D.C this will be the first place we visit."

  • "Besides the history, the location is fantastic. Make sure you make a reservation thru OpenTable... upon arrival we saw a HUGE crowd, and found wait time was over an hour. We got there at 7:55pm for an 8:00pm ressie we did make online, and we were seated exactly at 8:00pm. I don't recall the last time I was seated at my exact time. The waitress was fantastic, the food was amazing, and we enjoyed a couple of drinks while taking in the atmosphere mix of what seemed few locals and lots of tourists. So however you travel into DC, make sure the first stop is OEG. "

  • "We had such a wonderful meal at Old Ebbitt Grill. We ordered the Maine cod and the crab cake. Neither one was a disappointment and the cod simply melted in your mouth. The immaculate table setting and the waiters in long aprons were a nice touch. We made reservations and were glad we did. It was packed!"

  • "The bread is outstanding and so is the clam chowder. This was only my second visit, but I can't wait to go back and try a few other things. The waitress we had provided some of the best service I've ever been given."

  • "I enjoyed oysters, ruben sandwich, and chili. but my wife did not care for the seafood salad. The tables for 2 are very small and cramped together. Service was very slow and server was polite but not very attentive. We like "Old Ebbitt" and usually rate it 4-5. We will return but this time it was just OK. "

  • "Unfortunately, even with a reservation we were 15 minutes late being seated and then shunted into an auxiliary courtyard type setting. One goes to the Ebbit Grill to enjoy the ambiance of the main restaurant, not to be shunted out of the main stream."

  • "Old Ebbitt has been one of my favorite places in DC for so long...with all the rich wood and brass decor and the proximity to Washington power centers, I sometimes forget just how delicious the food is! But it is always great for a work lunch or family dinner and a great spot to impress out-of-towners!"
