Old Ebbitt GrillLunch at Old EbbittLunch at Old Ebbitt is what it should be. Above average food in a great and historical setting.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThe BestThis was one of the highlights of our dining experience in DC. Beautiful decor and great food. If you are in DC try to have a meal there. The servers were great, the food was exceptional and the ambiance was outstanding.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways excellentWe always try to have Sunday brunch at the OEG whenever we visit DC.
The service is always superb, and the extensive brunch menu is sure to please.
We loved our waiter, Edward. The ambience is vintage DC, within walking distance of the
White House and the National Mall. A visit to DC is complete when we top off our visit with
The Old Ebbitt Grill.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMA must visit when in town.A must visit when in town. We went for Sunday brunch. Our waitrer was super helpful in helping my 3 boys (6,4,4) find something they liked on the menu. Great ambiance and food! Make reservations in advance. We just missed a huge waiting line!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMCelebration DinnerThe first time we dined at Old Ebbitt Grill was two years ago for a birthday celebration. It was fantastic then and is just as good now.
We were celebrating our daughter's graduation from GWU Law and coincidentally my birthday fell on the same day. We were seated in a terrific location. Our service was top notch and we had a great time. Our food was prepared fast and served hot. We ordered a wide variety of dishes and appetizers and every dish was excellent. We were all served at the same time with efficiency. We ordered a bottle of house Pinot Griggio. Old Ebbitt has their own private label California wine and it was reasonably priced and very good. We were not rushed in any way and our server was friendly and funny.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat RestaurantThis was the second time for my wife and I. We brought her parents, sister, and nephew from out of town. Old Ebbitt Grill was very accommodating with hiccups on our reservation (due to us, not them), had fabulous service, and provided impressive fare. My wife's family was thoroughly impressed, and we will definitely recommend Old Ebbitt as often as possible in the future.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMBrunch at OLD EBBITTWe had company in town that has gone to Clyde's in Georgetown for years, but we couldn't get a reservation late the night before so we opted for the Old Ebbitt and were very happy. They now say they would rather go to the Old Ebbitt. For me it was a no brainer5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMMrs.We were there Sun to celebrate our daughter's
College graduation. We are from out of state, our first time there. It was great food & service . Our waiter was the BEST!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food good serviceOld ebbitt is always a tasty and pleasant experience, but you'll want to make sure to get a reservation to avoid long wait times!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat! We were seated right away. Food was delicious. Great historic restaurant.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMCharm and eleganceA little bit of old world charm and elegance! You walk into old world ambiance and are greeted with a smile. The Maitre d, attired in a suit, seats you at a cloth covered table with fresh flowers. The waiter was great, service was great, the food came in perfect timing and in abundance and absolutely delicious! Wish we had room for dessert. I will definitely recommend Old Ebbitt Grill and will be dining there again on our next visit! The only negative was that it was on the loud side and my husband has a hearing problem. It was difficult to carry on a conversation.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMIconicThis was my 2nd dining experience at Old Ebbitt which was just as good as my first, perhaps better because of the reason I was there. I took a co-worker who knew of Old Ebbitt from her favorite t.v. show, West Wing, and from reading Washington news. She follows politics and was fascinated by the place and we both had a great time.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial Occasion HappinessWent for our son's college graduation. Our waiter Thomas was very personable and efficient. Slightly noisy ambiance but it is a saloon/grille. Our meals , sea-food were superb!. The wine selection is very nice and complimented our meals perfectly. We were taken to our table on time. Food was delivered piping hot and without a long wait for as busy as they are. The only suggestion is that the noise leval is distracting. It is located very near the White House and the Metro. It is casual dress so after a day of sight-seeing you don't have to gussy up to dine. Touristy, but then it is Washington D.C. The history and antiques are very interesting.Prices are very moderate for D.C. Wonderful time.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMOysters Are Forever - BondedWe always try to take guests for an experience - iconic place - room with a view. Have done it for years - folks walk away thinking what a great place is and take this impression back to Dubuque, Iowa - or wherever they've come from.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderfulWe just went for lunch. They do not have outdoor eating, but we were seated in the center Atrium near the fountain which had an outdoor feeling. Our server, Charlie, was attentive and very friendly. I had the seafood medley with crositini. It was just enough and out of this world with flavor. There were many Items on this menu that sounded good. We will be back the next time we come to DC.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat AtmosphereBrought my parents here for a real "DC" experience. The place is huge and does a huge volume of business, but they manage it very efficiently. They were very accommodating and friendly when we checked in. The wait staff was excellent, attentive and professional. As far as the food, the oysters were very tasty. The main courses (we had halibut, crab cakes and ribeye) were solid but not spectacular. The pricing is surprisingly reasonable. I would definitely return.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMEvery morsel was yummy! My husband and I had dinner at OEG on a Friday night afer work and it was a wonderful way to end the work week. We both agreed the crab cakes were the best we've ever had -- we wondered how on earth did they stay together with so much crab! For dessert we had the "Peanut Butter Pie" and it was perfect!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMQuintessential Washington,Quintessential Washington, D.C. I recently moved to DC, I've been to old ebbits before, but I love the food, energy, bar, bartenders, best oysters on the east coast. Overall great place.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMPopular place! This place is jumping! Must have reservations unless you want to join the groups waiting on the sidewalk.
But the food, service and decor are worth it. Fast paced, a fresh menu and casual antique bar surroundings
make for a pleasant meal. Caution: if you're with a group and want conversation, ask for a booth.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ServiceCelebrated a co-worker's birthday and the restaurant provided a complimentary dessert with a candle. The waiter was very attentive and made it a special occasion. I definitely tipped him extra since he didn't have to go beyond his duties. Such great service is definitely appreciated! Food was good but the dessert (warm Blondie with ice cream and chocolate chips) was amaaaaaaaazing!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMDC institution Maintains QualityThe Old Ebbitt Grill is an "old-school, Washington institution". I had not been there for a while and it was not my intent to come back (all the other restaurants I wanted to go to did not have any reservations available for the times I needed.) The overall dining experience was very positive- seated promptly for the reservation, consistent service by the wait staff, nice wine list, varied selection of appetizers and entrees- not too many as to be overwhelming, but enough of a choice. I would say the food was very good, and I would certainly come back.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMDon't miss The Old Ebbitt GrillI never go to DC without dining at the Old Ebbitt Grill. The history of this restaurant is very interesting. The decor is fabulous for those who like to feel transported back to an elegant time.
All of my family had wonderful meals which were unique in their presentation and taste.
The bar is quite loud but gives the restaurant excitement.
The only thing I would change would be the bread service, which was tasty but small loaves which were cold. I recommend hot bread basket.
All in all, I am looking forward to a return visit.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGood price, good ambience,Good price, good ambience, good food, good location.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat meall, but extremely loudOld Ebbitt Grill was a terrific restaurant with great service and delicious food. We were seated next to the bar and it was so loud that it was almost impossible to converse. I would recommend requesting a table in the main dining room so that you can enjoy the company of fellow diners.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat as always!Started going here in the early '80s but haven't been in about 4 years. Boy, has it expanded! Yet somehow the vibe is still there. Bars are overcrowded (in a good way), tables are full, and menu is superb. We had Cape Cod Day Boat Scallops (six of them!) and a huge Grilled Chicken whose formal name escapes me. It's also a good people-watching place.Glad to know that somethings never change!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food - a bit loudFood options were good and everything that was eaten was delicious! We were sat next to the bar so it was quite loud during most of our 2-hour meal.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMCharged atmosphere, excellent food!We had and excellent time at this perfect hotspot charged with lots of folks enjoying great food and excellent service.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMIconic DC gemDo not miss the opportunity when you are in DC to have a fabulous dinner, lunch or just a drink at the bar. Reservations are highly recommended for dinner. Great for people watching too. Up the street from the White House.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA Washington InstitutionI start off any trip to D.C. With an evening at Old Ebbit's Grill. Great atmosphere. Always hopping. Terrific cocktails, oysters on the half shell, and I have never been disappointed by my food selections. Reasonably priced wine list, too.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMApparently a must when in DCWe were told this was a must do while in DC by others and validated by our concierge at the hotel. Get a reservation in advance. We did and tried to change it but not possible. We were there for an early dinner at 5:30 and it was packed. Nice atmosphere, good food overall, and the service was very good.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways Dependable -- A ClassicOld Ebbitt hasn't changed in the 30 years I have been going, except to modernize the menu a bit to suit current tastes, but the ambience and dining experience have remained the same. I recommend going to the bar and getting a burger...one of the best in DC.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMPower lunching near the White HouseGreat lunch spot in central Washington just one block from the White House.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMImpossible to be in DC withoutImpossible to be in DC without visiting Old Ebbitt Grill each and every time. Reception, attention to Open Table requests, food and service are of the highest order. Breakfast there each and every morning is a must, regardless of the provisions of excellent local hotels. Ambience is absolutely great and never to be missed. Tried to book for dinner this time but the earliest they could fit us in was 11.00 pm or on standby! - The lesson we learned: book earlier!5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent DC brunchIn DC for Mothers Day with out of town relatives, wanted good food and classic DC local. Old Ebbitt grill was perfect. Table ready on time, service excellent, food outstanding.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMbeautiful! The atmosphere was beautiful. The menu looked so delicious, it was very difficult to decide on what to order. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Everything that we ordered was delicious and the people sitting next to us felt the same. I would definately recommend the old ebbit and look forward to returning when we visit the dc area again.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent burgers!!!...UpscaleExcellent burgers!!!...Upscale pub food....great atmosphere!!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOld EbbittThe waiter was excellent. Very knowledgeable regarding the food choices. The food was excellent and cooked with great taste and just right.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat BrunchThe Breakfast Club was outstanding and the Mimosas were the best I have ever had. Be sure to try the Chocolate Brownie Cappuccino. A brownie swimming in cappuccino and covered with ice cream and whipped cream.
The place was very crowded as it was Mother's Day, but there were no problems with waiting (if you had a reservation) or service or timeliness of food.
Definitely planning on going back.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMImpossible to be in DC withoutImpossible to be in DC without visiting Old Ebbitt Grill each and every time. Tried to book for dinner this time but the earliest they could fit us in was 11.00 pm or on standby! - The lesson we learned: book earlier!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day BrunchWe were seated immediately - on Mother's Day! Arriving at 10 a.m. was a big help towards that.
Crabcake - dense; flavorful. Get the sauce on the side. Steak fries -slightly undercooked.
House salad - no low-cal/low-fat choices, but the greens/tomatoes/cucumbers were very fresh.
Our guests enjoyed the salmon salad, grits/eggs/ham, and caesar salad with chicken, although he was expecting the chicken to come in chunks instead of 3-4 large slivers.
Valet Parking - very slow to return car-20 minutes.
Overall experience was awesome - relaxed atmosphere, good food, good service (not intrusive but on point).5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOld StandbyGood food at a decent price, consistent level of service, and comfortable ambiance. Those are the qualities that best describe the Old Ebbitt Grill.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA must visit whenever I am in DCI have visited here on personal pleasure trips, for celebrations, on business trips with colleagues and never been disappointed....in fact while I appreciate the history, location and food....this visit exceeded my recall...food was great as was service. The sense of tradition is great....my first visit as a 20 something in early 80s!...my latest to celebrate a grad school commencement. MLS from Boston.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMClassic placeI've taken out of town family guests here twice now and it never disappoints. The place is classic, service is top notch and the food consistently delicious.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst visitTop notch. Friendly service and the food was better than what I can prepare and cooking is my hobby5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMVery Reliable and FunAlways enjoy the Old Ebbitt Grille. A top choice for our family for special occasions when in DC.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome! What a great find! I have Celiac and our server Gabby was AMaZING at helping me find GF drinks and foods. It was delicious! Can't wait to go back!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMDeliciousThe strawberry french toast was wonderful. I tend to stick with the basics and took a risk because I wasn't sure how good strawberries would be with french toast (I prefer bananas) and it was delicious. My guest had the strawberry crepes and said they were wonderful too. A great place, I would go back.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMYummy!!Old Ebbitt Grill was wonderful! I had reservations and I was escorted to my table immediately. EVERYONE was extremely pleasant...from the host and hostess to the waiters and manager. I visited Old Ebbitt once a few years ago and wasn't impressed. I'm so glad I gave it another chance. The food was excellent. I couldn't decide between two of my favorites, french toast and crab cakes. When my friend told me that she had never eaten French toast (I couldn't believe it either!!) it was a no brainer...I ordered the French toast, she ordered the crab cakes and we were both in Heaven as I we tasted both entrees. She's a new French toast convert! The crab cakes were pretty good too...not a lot of filler. Old Ebbitt is my new go to spot in DC.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMA must when you visit D.C.When I have meetings and/or I'm in Washington, I always make a point to dine at Old Ebitt. The atmosphere is terrific, the wait staff is superb, and I love the options on the menu. Try the Crab Cakes or steaks. The chili is also one of my must eats. My favorite is to eat breakfast on the weekend as I end a week-long trip.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, not for 5 or moreHad an incredible meal. However the booths are small. I'd you have a party of five, one person doors on the edge. Very uncomfortable.
If hosting a group again, I would not choose this restaurant in th future.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
