What a place! We got a table at 8 pm and had dinner in twenty minutes. I ordered the crab cake and enjoyed them. My girls split a generous NY strip steak while my hubby ordered the swordfish. Great food great service great place!

These guys run a great restaurant. The menu has a very good selection and isn't overwhelming. The service is first class, from the door, to the table and back to the door. I am a big fan of the Atlantic Salmon salad and the reuben sandwich. Even the ice tea taste light and fresh. I've had oysters here in the past and they were fresh and out of this world. The Clyde group knows how to run a restaurant and this is no exception.

This was not my first time dining at Old Ebbitt Grill - but it may have been my last. I took a friend to celebrate their birthday - expecting a great experience. Unfortunately, our wait staff person did not provide timely attention and it appeared that we were more a disruption to her day than welcomed guests. Granted, this was lunch time in downtown D.C. and the restaurant was full - however, it took a very long time to get our meals. I had the Atlantic salmon and some type of vegetable mix. The salmon was very bland and the vegetable mix of zucchini, onions, olives, and grilled corn was minced small and was too oily and overcooked. The menu definitely needs to offer healthier options.

We recently were visited by lifelong friends who have never been to Old Ebbitt Grill, which we explained was our favorite restaurant in DC. Our experience was absolutely fantastic and reaffirmed our fondness for OEG. The service and food were outstanding (particularly the oysters). Our friends had the cannelloni and shrimp capellini. My wife had the blackened soft shell crab and I enjoyed a Riot burger. Everything was cooked to our satisfaction. The only drawback was that we were so full that there was not room for dessert. We will return for that the next time our friends visit (if not sooner).

We had had a long day and looking forward to our dining reservation. We were stuck between 2 very loud parties on a bench with no room to even put down our purses. We waited about 10 minutes with no server and decide to leave, we were not in the mood for all of the noise!

This restaurant should be on the list of places to visit alongside the DC monuments and museums. Everything on the menu is awesome & very reasonably priced. I especially like their Cap Cod Mussels & Linguini and the 1/2 priced oysters during their happy hours. Totally worth the long wait. But if you're doing it right, you would make reservations & not have to wait!

I went to Old Ebbitt for the dozenth (or so) time on Saturday night, and I was really disappointed by the poor service we received. Our food was fantastic, as always, and delivered in a timely fashion. However, I felt that the service wasn't up to snuff and I hope it was an anomaly. I would hate to scratch Old Ebbitt of our list for the future.

Took my wife for her birthday dinner (I mentioned it in the Open Table on-line reservation comment box...and Old Ebbitt remembered without me saying anything). Food and service were great. But, don't expect a lot of privacy with tables close together throughout most of the restaurant - that didn't bother us or take away from a geat meal. Expect the atmosphere to be busy with conversations and staff moving everywhere.

Pleased to report that this latest visit was a great improvement over the last one. For one thing, we stuck to menu items that Old Ebbitt is known to do very well. The crab cakes were excellent, as expected. For dessert, we shared the chocolate bread pudding, which could have been a bit warmer but was very good. The service was great and my mother said it was the best meal she has had in a long time. As long you are are making my mother happy, then I am happy :-)

Got the recommend rib app which was tough and inedible, told my food runner who was rushing entrees ontop of 4 uneaten ribs, ready to swoop them away and on to the next course, when i explained to him, they were tough and i wanted the chili instead. Never got it, had to ask for silver for entrees! Now I know 1789s old GM would never allow that to fly where he used to manage, why here at the ebbitt? Gonna have to belly up to the bar in this day and age for service here now i guess...?

My true test is if a establishment is consistent and the Old Ebbitt Grill is consistently very good. This is the first time I dined using OpenTable and was glad for the chance because it is normally very busy and requires waiting. This time I suspect it was later between peak lunch and dinner as well as mid-week. The food, service, ambiance was very good from all aspects. There was a major change since my last visit a couple of years ago in that now I am a bariatric patient and this was my first experience dining out since surgery. My only recommendation would be to enable such customers the ability to have a choice within their limits and provide nutritional information for the menu.

We accidentally stumbled upon happy hour with our early dining time of 6:30pm. Half priced oysters 4-7pm! We first ordered mixed dozen... With 7min to go... We followed with another dozen of the plumper Wellfleet oysters from MA. Add an entree each and a dessert to share. We ended up paying less than $50 each (inc tax and tips) and finished in time to stroll over to wave at President Obama at the White House before the sun sets! Hahaha Couldn't get a table? Bar area is popular. They also claim to be the oldest saloon bar in the area.

Stopped by with a friend for dinner. The place was really busy and we arrived 10 minutes early. The service was fine, not excellent. It took about 10 minutes until our server first greeted us. I had the clam chowder, shrimp capellini and crème brûlée. The clam chowder was alright - nothing special. The shrimp capellini was pretty good. The pasta was soft yet firm and tasted better than olive garden or such. The sauce was creamy and not too cheesy which was good. It included 10 shrimps, which is better than other places I've been to. The crème brûlée was OK. It was between cold and room temperature-I generally like it more when it is heated up. From my experience, I don't see why this place is 4+ stars with 2000+ reviews.

I ordered a steak salad and asked that the steak be medium. What I got was essentially raw, only slightly brown on the outside and cold on the inside, not even warm. I could not eat it. The server was so busy (not enough staff) that the server did not return to our table until everyone had finished. The place was overcrowded, understaffed and, I assume, the cooking staff was overwhelmed. I will never set foot in the place again.

This was my first time here. I made reservations about a week out for three and we were seated in the bar area with plenty of open tables in the main dining area. It appeared that our waitress was attending to too many tables so we didn’t get much attention. She passed by our table a couple of times with my wine glass empty. Great food but service needs improving.
