Old Ebbitt GrillMrs.We were there Sun to celebrate our daughter's
College graduation. We are from out of state, our first time there. It was great food & service . Our waiter was the BEST!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ServiceCelebrated a co-worker's birthday and the restaurant provided a complimentary dessert with a candle. The waiter was very attentive and made it a special occasion. I definitely tipped him extra since he didn't have to go beyond his duties. Such great service is definitely appreciated! Food was good but the dessert (warm Blondie with ice cream and chocolate chips) was amaaaaaaaazing!5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food - a bit loudFood options were good and everything that was eaten was delicious! We were sat next to the bar so it was quite loud during most of our 2-hour meal.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMCharged atmosphere, excellent food!We had and excellent time at this perfect hotspot charged with lots of folks enjoying great food and excellent service.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMIconic DC gemDo not miss the opportunity when you are in DC to have a fabulous dinner, lunch or just a drink at the bar. Reservations are highly recommended for dinner. Great for people watching too. Up the street from the White House.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA Washington InstitutionI start off any trip to D.C. With an evening at Old Ebbit's Grill. Great atmosphere. Always hopping. Terrific cocktails, oysters on the half shell, and I have never been disappointed by my food selections. Reasonably priced wine list, too.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways Dependable -- A ClassicOld Ebbitt hasn't changed in the 30 years I have been going, except to modernize the menu a bit to suit current tastes, but the ambience and dining experience have remained the same. I recommend going to the bar and getting a burger...one of the best in DC.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMPower lunching near the White HouseGreat lunch spot in central Washington just one block from the White House.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMImpossible to be in DC withoutImpossible to be in DC without visiting Old Ebbitt Grill each and every time. Reception, attention to Open Table requests, food and service are of the highest order. Breakfast there each and every morning is a must, regardless of the provisions of excellent local hotels. Ambience is absolutely great and never to be missed. Tried to book for dinner this time but the earliest they could fit us in was 11.00 pm or on standby! - The lesson we learned: book earlier!5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent DC brunchIn DC for Mothers Day with out of town relatives, wanted good food and classic DC local. Very knowledgeable regarding the food choices. The food was excellent and cooked with great taste and just right.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat BrunchThe Breakfast Club was outstanding and the Mimosas were the best I have ever had. Be sure to try the Chocolate Brownie Cappuccino. A brownie swimming in cappuccino and covered with ice cream and whipped cream.
The place was very crowded as it was Mother's Day, but there were no problems with waiting (if you had a reservation) or service or timeliness of food.
Definitely planning on going back.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMImpossible to be in DC withoutImpossible to be in DC without visiting Old Ebbitt Grill each and every time. Arriving at 10 a.m. was a big help towards that.
Crabcake - dense; flavorful. Get the sauce on the side. Steak fries -slightly undercooked.
House salad - no low-cal/low-fat choices, but the greens/tomatoes/cucumbers were very fresh.
Our guests enjoyed the salmon salad, grits/eggs/ham, and caesar salad with chicken, although he was expecting the chicken to come in chunks instead of 3-4 large slivers.
Valet Parking - very slow to return car-20 minutes.
Overall experience was awesome - relaxed atmosphere, good food, good service (not intrusive but on point).5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOld StandbyGood food at a decent price, consistent level of service, and comfortable ambiance. Those are the qualities that best describe the Old Ebbitt Grill.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA must visit whenever I am in DCI have visited here on personal pleasure trips, for celebrations, on business trips with colleagues and never been disappointed....in fact while I appreciate the history, location and food....this visit exceeded my recall...food was great as was service. The sense of tradition is great....my first visit as a 20 something in early 80s!...my latest to celebrate a grad school commencement. MLS from Boston.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMClassic placeI've taken out of town family guests here twice now and it never disappoints. It was delicious! Can't wait to go back!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMDeliciousThe strawberry french toast was wonderful. I tend to stick with the basics and took a risk because I wasn't sure how good strawberries would be with french toast (I prefer bananas) and it was delicious. My guest had the strawberry crepes and said they were wonderful too. A great place, I would go back.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMA must when you visit D.C.When I have meetings and/or I'm in Washington, I always make a point to dine at Old Ebitt. The atmosphere is terrific, the wait staff is superb, and I love the options on the menu. Try the Crab Cakes or steaks. The chili is also one of my must eats. My favorite is to eat breakfast on the weekend as I end a week-long trip.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, not for 5 or moreHad an incredible meal. However the booths are small. I'd you have a party of five, one person doors on the edge. Very uncomfortable.
If hosting a group again, I would not choose this restaurant in th future.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMStill on top of their GameAfter 100 + years the Old Ebbitt Grill has expanded and gotten even busier by doing what they do best. The serve good healthy American food at a reasonable price at a prime location in DC between the White House and the Willard Hotel. Service is good for the crowds that they serve and the food quality was excellent ... given the challenges of the volumes of people whom the serve. Make sure you have a reservation!!!!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMVery pleasedWe were seated immediately in the original section that we had requested. The service was great as well as the dinner.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMHistoric saloon, great food all dayOld Ebbitt is a DC must visit. Great service, food and atmosphere. Great at any time of day.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulousWe had an amazing evening. The food, service, and atmosphere was perfect. Thank you so much!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner on a Wednesday nightWanted a nice place to meet my out of town cousin for dinner and had never been to Old Ebbitt Grill before. There was a big crowd waiting to get in but my reservation whisked me past everyone to a great booth and had a super waiter. I fell for the crab cake special and was glad I did. Food, ambiance, service were all outstanding - and not expensive. I will go back.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMThe perfect eveningI planned to bring my lady out for a special evening to propose and it worked perfectly. The waitress was really nice and touched all the points. She even brought us a bottle of Prosecco on the house to help us celebrate the occasion. Thank you for making out night super special!5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistantly GreatThis is our favorite dining venue each time we visit in Washington DC. I always recommend making reservation or expect over an hour wait for dinner dining. Always crowded!5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a TreatHad a fantastic dinner with a dear old friend. Great beer and cocktails in a lively bar, followed by a delicious dinner. Service, food, and atmosphere is always pleasant. Try to request the main dining room. Did not like sitting our back in the building lobby, but it was only a minor drawback.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a good eatI usually take out-of-towners here for a meal to introduce them to DC. It works every time and the food is delicious. I forgot how loud it an be, though.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat restaurantThe Old Ebbitt has the best raw bar in the city!!! Prices are very reasonable and the service is outstanding.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat ExperienceI had a reservation for my husband's birthday dinner at 7:30, we were starving by 6:30, so they accommodated us early. Our server was very helpful with the menu and attentive. She even put a special touch on my husband's birthday dessert, which was very thoughtful and appreciated.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMA fun place!A very lively restaurant that was packed on a Monday night. The menu has different types of food for a very reasonable price. The bar is well stocked. We were sitting right next to other couples. Service was a little on the slow side. The house soup was very good. We both had salads which were good but not great. The peanut butter pie was yummy.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMOld Ebbit Grill - A solid performerI always take my out-of-town visitors here. It's in a great location...centrally located, near landmarks, great sites for an after-dinner walk. Ambience is casually elegant. Service is friendly, responsive and efficient. Waitress checked back just enough, and kept our drinks refilled all evening.
The restaurant has a solid menu with consistent regulars & hi-value specials. The food is good; i wouldn't say great. There's a lot of seafood, a few steaks, and fascinating sides. They are flexible about substitutions or special preparation requests. Everyone in my recent party of six was satisfied with the food, though two of us noted our entrees (halibut and pork chop) were a bit overcooked and dry. Go for the crab cakes or steaks.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMNeonatal Feeding ClubOur party of 9 from the Pediatrics Society had a wonderful dinner and engaging discussion at the Old Ebbitt Grill. Our waiter provided excellent service without being intrusive. We'll do this again!! thx5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMImpressive!!We loved the atmosphere and the decor, the food was excellent and the service was very good. I particularly enjoyed the old style gas lighting. For such a large restaurant and the amount of patrons I was surprised how quick and well prepared the food was and how attentive the staff was.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFantasticAlways a winner. Highly recommended for any occasion. Try the oysters or the crabcakes.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently Fantastic!Old Ebbitt Grill has been our favorite restaurant for quite some time. I've had most of the menus items and all have been superb. The service is always good and it is good for casual dining or special occasions. Joe V tending the oyster bar is the best bar tender I've ever seen should you want to belly up vice going to a table. You can't lose at Old Ebbitt.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMOld Ebbitt GrillGreat menu with a lot of choices. Food was good, as well.

This is my favorite DC restaurant!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were 3 couples & all hadWe were 3 couples & all had a delicious meal. Four of us had the halibut with asparagus salad, ramps, & lemon butter sauce. Just delicious. One person had a hamburger with crispy fries as she had asked & the other had the petit filet with bean sprouts & Bernie's sauce. Everybody was very happy. The price was also reasonable & we sat (as requested) in the open area in the courtyard so the noise level was moderate.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a fun timeOutside of the great dinners, nothing in the town beats before and after dinner drinks at the back bar with Joe. Joe is the quintessential bartender- outgoing, warm and friendly. Drop in any time I am in DC.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat evening at Old Ebbitt GrillWe made reservations for 3 at 5 p.m. on a Friday evening. We arrived early and were seated immediately. The welcoming atmosphere from the host to the servers impressed my 2 out-of-town guests. The food was also excellent, particularly the raw oysters. Great atmosphere, popular with visitors but doesn't feel "touristy". Recommend!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AM
