  • "We have driven by the restaurant a 1,000 times and finally decided to try it because I could use my open table app. I am happy we did. The food was amazing and the interior was gorgeous! I was with a party of 5, we all had something different...I don't think you can go wrong with any of the items on the menu. The staff could have been friendlier... But it didn't ruin my meal!"

  • "Beautiful Gulf dining; gorgeous setting. Hostess was not the best; rather distracted & less than cordial; but our wait staff made up for that 10x over & the food was fantastic. Our reservation were made far in advance, though we would not have needed them as the dining room was not busy although this was peak season. We had 3 adults & two children 10 & 12 years old. White tablecloths & napkins! There was no children's menu; but we preferred that.....this was not a fast food venue. A great selection of meals; beautiful views of the ocean as the sun was setting.....perfect 1st evening on Captiva Island!"

  • "Probably the best restaurant in Captiva with regards to food quality and ambiance (the Green Flash is a close second), though a bit pricy (but you get what you pay for). We were celebrating our anniversary so were offered a table in a small alcove for some privacy. The food was excellent and the only issue was slightly undercooked slices of duck breast which was corrected promptly. The server graciously apologized and the chef provided free desserts to make up for that. All in all a pleasant experience."

  • "We had 5 people in our party including a 2 year old and the food was fabulous, the atmosphere is great and the service was perfect! We walked across the street for the sunset and ended the night just perfectly! We will be back next year!!!"

  • "We had the crab cake and seared ahi appetizers and both were fantastic. My wife had the sea bass special and I had the jerk grouper, and both were cooked perfectly with unique and delicious presentation. We will definitely go again when we're in the area."

  • "Eight of us wanted to have dinner during Sanibel's spring high season and it was no easy feat to find a restaurant that could seat us. When the Mad Hatter put us on its waiting list, I asked them to recommend other possibilities. They urged us to try Old Captiva House and we loved it. The food was delicious and we sat in the front dining room to witness a spectacular sunset. The server was pleasant and knowledgeable but a little less attentive toward the end of the meal than we would have liked. Still, with good food and great friends, the evening was a success. Everyone in our party would be happy to recommend the restaurant to other friends and to return."

  • "We had so looked forward to having dinner again at Old Captiva House- Had requested a nice table but I have found such requests made on Open Table are ignored- Hostess showed us to a table in the serving crossfire between outdoors and indoors-when we pointed to two alternative tables we would prefer we were told someone had already requested those. Shown to our seat, we waited quite a while to be acknowledged by anyone, then flagged the hostess down to ask if we might order a cocktail. The wait staff couldn't handle the volume of diners-we were rushed through ordering, then never saw our waiter to order wine with dinner-busboy cleared us, asked if we'd like dessert, tossed the menu on the table and rushed off-food was ok-wasn't a nice time"

  • "The Old Captiva House is a preserved gem of a "Florida Remembered". Excellent food in a rustic, but elegant environment. Watch the sunset and then step in and enjoy truly exceptional food in a nostalgic relaxing environment with quiet piano music in the background. As a 5th generation Floridian, I recognize the Old Captiva House for the beautiful anachronism it represents."

  • "Can't say enough good things about the food. The server we had was excellent but he had at least a dozen tables. We felt bad for him as the establishment set him up to fail. He did the best he could. Hope they fix that issue."

  • "The food preparation, presentation and flavors were outstanding! I don't know when I have had a more exquisite meal. The food was creative and a mix of flavors that I had never had before. I cannot say enough about this wonderful meal! Everyone coming to Captiva FL must have at least one meal here, you will remember it until you return!"

  • "Food was very good. Probably the best restaurant on Captiva. The fish is fresh and prepared in various ways. The wine list is good. The service is slow."

  • "We went to this restaurant when our kids were young, approx. 15 years ago and wanted to try it again. We were very pleased with the experience; food, atmosphere and service were all good. We were given a window table with a view of the ocean and the sunset. The menu offered a number of great choices and we liked the two-size approach to the mains. The only difficulty was parking with so many assigned spots. We'd definitely go back.i"

  • "Everything was perfect. Not a flaw to be mentioned. Great food, service and location Steak, ahi tuna, and scallops were all tasty. Bread was delicious. The drinks were some of the best I've had. I don't think you can go wrong with whatever you choose here."

  • "We enjoyed a very nice meal, having the tilefish special and the popano off the menu. Fish was cooked perfectly and beautifully presented. Wait staff visits were well-timed and helpful. There were a few large tables that created enough noise to make it difficult to talk at times."

  • "We dined at Old Captiva House twice during our week recently at Captiva. The food was really very, very good. It is so nice to be able to go to a dining room that has a great menu and be able to dress comfortably. The first night everything was perfect. We ate inside in the cheery, comfortable dining room. The next time we dined on the outside patio on a lovely evening. That night our service was a bit spotty, maybe because it was one of the first evenings offering outside dining? But, again, the food was very good. We would definitely go back and we would definitely recommend eating there. It is a wonderful island atmosphere with better than average island dining. Overall...great!!"

  • "The Old Captiva House is a gracious place to dine, reminiscent of times past. The dining room is spacious and tables set apart to give a sense of privacy. Our waiter and our server were attentive and helpful, aware of our needs, but never interrupting our meal. The menu offers variety, and even moderate portions of entrees for those who choose. We enjoyed a fish chowder and a shrimp cocktail as appetizers, followed by the scallops, and a delicious citrus-ginger creme brûlée for dessert. Towards the end of our meal a powerful rain storm hit Captiva, with thunder and lightning. It was amazing to watch the lightning displays through the windows to the garden, enjoying coffee and feeling no rush. It was a perfect evening!"

  • "Things started out well. The menu is great, our table agreed that we would like everything on it. We each chose something different and all were delicious. The bump came when our meals were delivered by someone other than our waiter. We had finished our first glass of wine by that time and wanted a second glass. We waited so long that my dining companion went to the hostess station and asked her to find our waiter. He had to go a second time, she dashed into the kitchen and sent another employee to our table to take our drink order. Our table was cleared by the same man who delivered our meals and he asked if we wanted coffee or dessert, we declined. Our original waiter delivered the bill."

  • "Besides the great ambiance with the live piano and charming decor, this restaurant offers an excellent menu with great presentation! We dined both inside and outside on the open patio with heaters and both were lovely. I liked the variety on the menu and at great wine selection at reasonable prices! The service staff were attentive and friendly and knew how to pace a nice dinner properly. I hosted a party of 6 several times during our stay at the Tween Waters Inn. I would rate Old Captiva House the best I've had on both Sanibel and Captiva islands. Bravo!"

  • "Our family of seven adults enjoyed a nice, appropriately paced, dinner here to cap off a nice vacation week on Captiva. The servers attended to our every need and the live piano music was very enjoyable. The entree choices were all good, from the seafood choices to the steak filet. Definitely worth trying for a fine dining experience."

  • "We selected the Old Captiva House for Christmas Eve dinner. Out of a few other restaurants in the area where we also dined, it was by far the best one. The quality, variety and presentation food were all outstanding and, at reasonable prices. Having smaller portions available for all entrees is helpful, particularly for smaller appetites. We had the snapper, NY strip, crake cakes and bacon wrapped shrimp. It was all yummy."

  • "we have been vacationing in this area for 20 years and Old Captiva House has always been a dining must for our family. The menu appeals to everyone with options for meat, seafood or vegetarian lovers. The atmosphere is comfortable and service is impeccable for a fine dining experience. Added bonus is Gulf of Mexico view from the front steps! Highly recommend this reataurant!"

  • "Huge room with white furniture which makes it seems like old Florida which pretty much sums up the crowd there. Tables are miles apart from each other with large open space in middle of room for some strange reason. Ordered the rack of lamb medium and it came rare. Everyone else was almost finished eating when it came back, but it was very good. Everyone else thought there food was just so so. Had to wait 20 minutes to get the check as the waiter simply disappeared and had to be summoned by going up to see the hostess who didn't seem to think much of it. Prices are high given the quality of food. Nice wine list."

  • "The appetizers and entrees were delicious. The Ahi Tuna Appetizer was absolutely amazing, and the entrees were almost as good. All around, excellent food. However, the desserts were pathetic. We got the key lime pie and the chocolate mousse and they both tasted like they were store bought at a Kmart. I was very disappointed in the dessert but the rest of the food was amazing (making the poor quality of the desserts that much more surprising). Aside from dessert, food was excellent, service was excellent, ambience was ok, live piano music was great, all around great. If the restaurant recognizes the dessert issue it would be an easy/quick fix, and a better dessert could make this dining experience excellent. Of note: Food was very expensive."

  • "Excellent food, beautiful sunset view from the front dining room. There is outdoor dining but the views are obstructed. Service was attentive without being overbearing. The pace that the courses came out at was good. Key lime pie with coconut crust was excellent. We enjoyed a quiet dinner."

  • "Helter skelter service with half full restaurant. Ambience and music fit for crowd age 70 and older. (I'm 63) Tables left without settings looking bare in the middle of a largely empty dining room. Overpriced. Not enough servers. Unimaginative menu."
