  • "I have dined here many times. The food has gotten better, but the prices still seem out of line with the cuisine. It is good but not an epicure's delight. The wait staff is always pleasant and attentive. The ambiance is very nice, especially dining on the patio in good weather. This could be enhanced substantially by using cloth in lieu of plastic to cover the tables. The seats are also very uncomfortable as there are no cushions and you sit on metal mesh chairs. Finally, most customers have taken to very casual attire, including shorts and sneakers. If you wear a coat and tie you will likely be the only person dressed in that manner-a real shame given the potential this setting offers."

  • "Beautifully set, and highly recommended, but a bit disappointing. We had a reservation, but had to wait over half an hour for our table. Two of the dishes we wanted were no longer available. The food was good (the bread was great -- but you have to ask for it), and our first waiter was charming. However, he disappeared and a rather scowly waiter took over. After being made to wait for our table, we were unceremoniously rushed out. Not only was the check delivered with the message that they were closing, but it was handed to my husband (I was taking him out!). That kind of sexism does not sit well with me."

  • "We had been on the east coast for five days and this was the best meal we had - hands down. It was fresh and delicious and the service was terrific. We had a reservation and they kept it to the time although they were remarkably busy on a beautiful summer day. Uniformly delicious!"

  • "The outdoor dining area is the prettiest in the Washington area. We went on Monday and wines are half price. I had seared salmon which was delicious. Salad was mediocre. They let us park in the parking lot earlier and we went on a long walk on the canal before dinner."

  • "The food was excellent but we barely saw our server. To be fair, it was Father's Day, so they were really busy. But we waited a long time for our drinks, and the server gave the check to my father, and gave the credit card slip to him to sign even though it was my (his daughter's) credit card he had run. If the server had at least been pleasant (a smile here and there, for example), it would have made things a lot better. Still a terrific meal, though!"

  • "Spotted the Inn on my way to hike in Great Falls a few months back. Checked out the menu online and saw brunch $28 per person. Decided to go for Fathers Day and found the only option was a special Fathers Day menu for $59/person. We asked for kids menus for my 6 and 8 year old sons and they offered pasta or chicken fingers for $25 a plate. The food was fine and the outdoor seating is fantastic, but the price points were not at all what I was expecting based on the regular menu."

Since it was Saturday on Father's Day weekend, only the brunch menu was served. We had the tuna tartare, arugula salad, lamb burger and mussels -- all fantastic.   • "We went with high expectations, based on previous visits. Once seated, our waitress came over after a short wait. We ordered drinks and were given menus. She wasn't very attentive and seemed to be in a rush. We ordered and the food arrived by the "runner", who couldn't take drink orders and we were ready for a second round. We waited for about 20 minutes before she came over. Again, she seemed in a rush. Luckily the food was good, which saved the evening. ( this was a birthday dinner ) All in all, good food and ambiance but poor service."

  • "My Wife and i went to Old Anglers In for our Anniversary on a Saturday night. We were prepared for a long wait, slow service and average food since the restaurant was so busy! We were pleasantly surprised however, the service was great (Thanks Ann!) and the food was better than i remembered. Kudos to the chef and kitchen for being able to handle such a large crowd with perfection. We will definitely be returning soon!"

  • "I live only a few blocks from Old Anglers and when I moved here I was really looking forward to spending a lot of evenings here. Unfortunately many changes were happening at the time here and I was greatly disappointed a few times. The last being about 2 years ago with a extremely rude head receptionist , bad food and wine..Went back Friday evening was delighted to see happy faces, great food and wine and very courteous service. Congratulations to a old established restaurant which deserves to be told when they are doing it right..Will return soon.."

  • "Old Angler's is a Washington oldie. Going there is reserved for special occasions, like Mothers Day, when it had a prix fixe $80 menu. That was way overpriced. You could have gotten the same food off the regular menu for $15 or $20 less -- if they let you. The food is satisfactory, but you are paying for the history, the ambience and the location by the C&O Canal. I took someone else's mother for the day (her kids all live out of town), and it was a beautiful day worthy of the Old Anger's Inn."

  • "OAI is a regular stop for my wife and me. She insists that her birthday dinner be there every year. Everything was excellent - food, service, and atmosphere. For the quality of the dinning, the prices are excellent. The prices are not cheap but considering the exceptional experience of the dinning, they are below what I would expect to pay. We normally visit in the summer so we can eat on the patio; we have never dined inside. We plan to visit a couple of times this fall and winter see the inside of the restaurant, check out the Christmas decorations, and see what they have on the winter menu. We really enjoy every visit. We highly recommend Old Angler's Inn."

  • "Made 6:30 reservation weeks in advance...asked for "Just not near kitchen please"......arrived on time....saw name on list with no open table notation... and sent to outside table- next to noisy kitchen entrance...plenty of empty foursome tables....punished by being sent to area with no space heaters on a chilly night..... waiter wore sunglasses most of evening and had no belt...odd...."

  • "Goregeous setting with food that was not that special. They served a fixed price dinner on Motherrs Day which was $81 per person for 3 courses. Somewhat higher prices than their everyday menu prices. But the food was not so special. Disappointing really. Served over-tenderized lamb without much flavor left except all the MSG sodium. Dessert tartlettes with cold soggy crust as if they came right from the freezer case. Foie gras was delicious but it was oddly paired with strawberries and walnuts that did not work well together. "

The food was great and the service was good for the size of the crowd. If you want to dump some money and have a great meal in an outstanding country setting near by, then this is the place."

  • "Mother's day dinner with family. Lovely to be outside enjoying an fresco dining. 3 course prix dice menu. Crab sportive small but nice. But halibut overcooked and tasteless. And they managed to turn out a very tough filet mignon for my daughter. Desserts were ordinary with crème brulee more a sauce than dessert. We thought food upgrade since new chef but sadly dissappointed. Enthusiastic of ham-handed service and ambience could not make up. Add in a $500 bill for 4 with a tart pivot grigio..... You get the picture"
