Diner Reviews
  • "I had a terrific dinner here with kids. Waiter was quite friendly, helpful and accommodating. Fish dinner choices were great. Prices a bit high but so is everything in Hawaii - at least food was good (unlike other restaurants at hotel.) Kid menu has choices other than fried foods too."

  • "Had lunch earlier in the week - food was marginal, service was terrible. Decided to give it another chance for dinner. Food was terrible, service was marginal. Daily catch was good, steak unexplainable and lobster over cooked. Wine service was rushed and glasses over poured. Grossly overpriced with a hint of arrogance throughout."

  • "We enjoyed Ola's for a nite out to celebration two of my daughter's birthday's. both of them ordered a "medium-rare" steak which arrived more "medium-well" done. One daughter graciously requested that it be sent back so she could get one cooked as she wished and the other daughter accepted the steak although it was cooked a bit too much. Ola's was very apologetic and comped both daughter's meals. The birthday girls also each received a free dessert. I say that was unexpected and exceptional service and we happily look forward to returning. Plus the setting by the ocean is fabulous!"

  • "It was our first visit to Ola and it was also our anniversary. We had such a wonderful experience and have made Ola a "must visit" every time we travel to Hawaii. The food was outstanding. The ambience was amazing and very romantic. To top things off, our server was absolutely fantastic. What a great guy. His name is Chris. I cant say enough about his service, the way he described the offerings and his suggestions were spot on. This is a must "go to" at least in our travels it will be. Chris & Char"

  • "Most amazing restaurant in Hawaii. We had to go back again."

  • "I like Ola's food, wine and outdoor seating, but wouldn't choose it over the other Turtle Bay restaurants unless you have kids in your party. The room is boisterous. One couple's baby had a meltdown at the next table while other people's kids scurried between the tables. It is, what it is. Given all that, our service was impeccable. Our server kindly brought my friend's young niece her dinner with the entrees so she could eat before she fell asleep at the table (she had just flown in and was jet lagged), and then showed up right on time with ice cream while we finished our entrees. He was super goodnatured, and helpful with wine selections. Delicious local food choices, included a tasty and fresh Lomi King Salmon Salad and pumpkin bisque."

  • "I like any restaurant that sources their food locally. They did pretty well at this."

  • "We had dinner here during our stay at Turtle Bay and loved it so much we went back for a second dinner, then lunch the day we left. The butterfish at dinner was to die for- the best fish we 've ever had, and we love fish! It was so moist, and the flavor was perfect. The setting right on the beach at Turtle Bay couldn't be more beautiful! You can literally choose to have a table in the sand or inside the open building. The service was terrific. We can't wait to go back during our next visit!"

  • "The food just didn't taste good. It seemed like it was prepared by an inexperienced or careless chef. The service, however, was good as our waitress was very attentive. Overall, our dinner was disappointing."

  • "Had high expectations for Ola having eaten the night before at their sister restaurant (The Grove in Kailua), but came away disappointed. Poke appetizer was too salty; risotto mushy; butterfish served cool. Food preparation uninspiring. Service poor - our server was an orbiting satellite, stopping by very infrequently. There are not many fine dining options on the North Shore and Ola is not up to the task to handle the high volume of patrons. Mgt. graciously offered return visit; we declined. For the prices charged, they should do a much better job. Go to The Grove instead. Worth the drive."

  • "Ola's has a wonderful, friendly staff. Excellent view of Turtle Bay cove and the beach and it's fun to watch whales in winter and the stand-up paddle boarders. The beach is safe for swimming almost year round so it is a popular spot with locals and tourists. It is the only eat on the beach nice restaurant on the N. Shore. The food is very good, although it is more expensive than other n. shore restaurants and you can easily run up a $75 bill at lunch. You are paying for the setting and it is worth the extra $$."

  • "As the only beachfront, on the sand, nice restaurant on the N. Shore of Oahu, Ola's has a special charm. You sit under an open air ceiling built of natural wood. You are right on the beach and have a wonderful view of the protected cove that makes this Turtle Bay beach safe almost any time of year. Watch paddle boarders, waves, and whales in winter while you dine. Have a nice glass of wine or gourmet beer. It's not cheap, but worth it for a special occasion or girlfriend lunch."

  • "Booked well in advance, met our request for a quiet table by the water, pity it was blowing a gale. protected by weather shutters. Service was attentive..they just seemed to rush the first 2 courses of the special degustation menu. The waiter slowed down the delivery speed by asked before bringing out the other courses...with matching wines. Well worth the money and a great night all round. My valentine was suitabley impressed."

  • "We had Thanksgiving dinner at Ola's in November, 2013. Our table was literally in the sand on the beach! We dined in our shorts and Hawaiian shirts and it couldn't have been better. Home-style family Thanksgiving dinner was wonderful and priced fair considering the location and the occasion. Would recommend to anyone."

  • "It was my first time at this restaurant and I must say it was an enjoyable experience. Our server was awesome and so nice. The view was so beautiful. The only thing that was kind of a bummer was that the steak we ordered was too charred. We told our server medium and when it came out and was a little too over cooked to well done. But besides that it was great!"

  • "We had a very nice supper after our day of golf at Turtle Bay and flight back to the main land. We were a bit disappointed that there was no tablecloth on the wood table for supper in the open air dining room but the tables in the sand a few feet away were clothed. Portions are good sized and accommodate changed in the menu pairings of entree and vegetables. Desserts were awesome"

  • "Been to this restaurant a few times over the years whenever my partner and I visit Hawaii from the UK. It's an idyllic beach restaurant right on the beach. The service is great and the staff definitely know there food selection. The food prices are certainly pricey and there could be a better/wider selection but if you're looking for a romantic beach restaurant this is the place to go"

  • "Excellent evening! We were greeted by three lovely ladies, smiling! We were seated outside nothing between us and the ocean. A perfect way to start our vacation. Chris, our server made us feel welcome and his recommendation was personal and accurate. We had the octopus and a lovely farmers market salad. We had wine by the glass. I didn't delve into the wine selection, but I was satisfied with the pairing. I had the Butterfish which was served hot! It was perfectly cooked. My husband had the pork belly and told Chris it was the best pork he ever had. We eat a lot of pork. Chris then served us dessert and brought us a treat! Creme Brûlée and chocolate cake. The coffee was delicious too. Thank you for a Wonderful dining experience."

  • "We very much enjoyed the food, ambiance and view at Ola, but the service left much to be desired. While several of the things we had tried to order seemed to already be gone for the day (and it was only 12:30pm), the food we did receive was also very good. Also, several things we ordered (like drinks) either took around 20-30 minutes to arrive, or never came at all, so that was interesting. But if you just want a nice beach place with locally-sourced ingredients and a laid-back atmosphere where you'll have a relaxed dining experience, then Ola is the place. Despite the ridiculously bad (albeit friendly) service, we would go back, because what we did receive was well worth the wait."

  • "When going to a high-end restaurant, my husband and I prefer to have a cocktail in the bar before dinner. So we arrived a little earlier than our reservation and were surprised to find there is not a bar or cocktail area at all. We were told (by a somewhat snooty hostess) we could order our drinks at the bar where the wait staff gets their drinks and take it to the reception area, which was awkward. Other than that, our experience was good. Our waitress was wonderful and gave us exceptional service, and the food was very good (steak and seafood). We would come back when on Oahu and at the North Shore."

  • "We were very disappointed with the taste of the foods. Either things were bland, dry, or flavor combinations were not complimentary. The cheese sauce on my steak ruined an otherwise good cut of rib eye because it masked the meat. The garlic soybeans didn't taste of anything. The poke had too much mayonnaise. The grilled tako was slimy and unseasoned. The chocolate cupcake was dry. Service was excellent. They checked on us regularly to fill drinks and remove dishes. Requests we also attended to promptly. Staff was always friendly and helpful. Location and scenery were beautiful! Right on the sand!"

  • "We chose Ola, again, as our dinner the other night was very good. Not so much tonight. The order was messed up: my mahi mahi with pumpkin risotto arrived sans mahi mahi. Husbands dish was not hot. we alerted the staff: server came over. New dishes arrived. Husbands dish was right. My dish was sooooo salty. Not edible. what is up with that? I wondered if the chef was mad at me! Manager did come over, eventually and said that " sometimes that happens'. sheesh. Server was appalled. She comped us desert, and took my meal off the bill. that was very nice, but, we were surprised that the dining experience was so vastly different than the other night."

  • "Expensive for the type of food. They were also out of many items that were on their online menu. The fish that was on their chalkboard, was not what they had, and our server said that it was last nights special. Very disapointed."

  • "This is a great place for a romantic dinner. The menu is mostly seafood and it is prepared amazingly. I would recommend a night that is clear with a bright moon or an early evening so the scenery can be enjoyed."

  • "Our table at the window afforded a perfect view of the ocean and was lovely. The menu was a bit limited, but we selected the Poke to start. If it was fresh, it was prepared in advance, so did not taste fresh. Our drinks were delivered promptly. I ordered the fish special, Hebi with a luau leaf and coconut sauce over Okinawan mashed potato and vegetables. The fish was a bit dry, even with the sauce, which reminded me of squid luau. It really was not flavorful on the fish. The Okinawan mash was not mashed, but runny and cold. The entire entrée was not hot. It just didn’t taste good. I come back but will probably try one of the burgers next time, which was popular that day. As I said, the ambience can’t be beat and the service was friendly."

  • "Four of us shared a lovely sunset dinner on Christmas Day (2013) at Ola. Because we were actually able to get a reservation, I was skeptical (so many Honolulu and leeward locations had filled up a month earlier). But we were very happy with the restaurant: even though it's housed in a resort that seems to cater to golfers and their spoiled children, the restaurant itself is separate. It sits right on the beach (one of a very few in the whole state that can say so truthfully) and the surf sound is wonderfully soothing. The bar is ample and well-stocked, and the food selections were filled with local seafood and other regional delights. Wonderful service: our waitperson was a lifelong resident of O'ahu. We'd definitely go again!"

  • "We have had the hummus trio, butterfish & catch of the day (grilled mahi) plus creme Brulee & mint cheesecake. All dishes were delicious & very nicely presented but the butterfish dish was light as air / simply melted in ones mouth."

  • "If you want a very casual lunch on the beach this is a great place with a great view. Food is good for lunch. Nothing fancy and served quickly. It was a busy place on a Sunday afternoon. Recommend reservations but wait time did not seem to be long."

  • "We arrived for special birthday event. They did not have reservation even after we had confirmed. We we sat by the backside of a restaurant that was chosen for beach panorama views. We got to see the sidewalk and random cats scavenging for food. Service was marginal and the food was moderate to lukewarm Overall experience was not good. Would not go back. Party of six so not too cumbersome."
