  • "It's been a long time since I've ventured to Okura from my Palm Springs area, but I have always liked it and had wonderful meals. I still feel that way."

  • "We were on vacation and had a real urge for some Sushi. We we're very surprised that a Sushi restaurant in the desert could have fish as fresh and great tasting as it was. We loved it so much we went back two nights in a row! I wish they had a place in LA!"

  • "Three of us went for an early dinner and ordered a bento box, three rolls and sashimi. Everything was fresh & tasty and the services was wonderful. When the restaurant started to get busier, I was surprised at the number of groups that came in with young children, but they were all well behaved. $108 for three of us, including one drink."

  • "My wife and I were staying in the area for a weekend getaway and were in the mood for sushi. I looked up sushi restaurants in the local area and Okura Robata looked like the best choice. They did not disappoint. The food was fantastic. The service was top notch and the ambiance was fabulous. We ordered the all you can eat sushi. The selection was very extensive and very fresh. The food was brought out quickly as we ordered it so we were not sitting and waiting around. Can't say enough good things! We will be back."

  • "While other sushi restaurants offer an "all you can eat" menu it is generally overloaded with white rice, no way around it unless they charge you for uneaten rice. At Okura they offer a variety of beautifully prepared dishes with an abundance of vibrant flavors that all compliment each other and the best.. sans the white rice. We had the Hamachi Carpaccio which was delicious, delicate pieces of Hamachi topped with a complimentary drizzle then topped with a serrano chili slice, Yumm. The Sashimi Salad is also the best, all without rice. But....if you like rice they have an abundance of interesting rolls and nigiri to chose from. Make sure you make this a stop when in the mood for sushi, you won't be disappointed. PS. Best Happy Hour!"

  • "In a strip mall, but still great inside design. I had samples of various items. I thought it was all good. Was it the best sushi I have had? No, but it was good. Service was great."

  • "This is nit the best sushi we've ever had but it's the best we've found in Coachella Valley. We did the all you can eat which includes some sashimi, cooked food choices as well as sushi and rolls. Everyone at the table has to go sling but for $32.95 per person if you're a sushi pig this works. Very fresh fish. "

  • "We had a great dinner there last weekend. The restaurant perfectly accommodated our group and we had amazing service!! The food was excellent...try the spicy tuna on crispy rice!!!"

  • "We ordered sashimi sampler, rock shrimp from a la carte menu, and hamachi mango roll from specialty menu. The sashimi is nothing fancy compared to other places we went, and a few pieces of fish were not cut up to standards. We love the sushi roll and the starter. However, the service is not great. The restaurant did not have that many customer but we have to wait 15 minutes to order. And the table next to us was also trying to get the attention of the server but they just simply ignored us again and again. "

  • "Seated quickly, great table. Server was chatting with another table when we arrived. This went on for over 10 minutes so we went to the bar and ordered our own drinks. This hurt her gratuity. Shouldn't have happened."

  • "Okura is absolutely the best place in the Valley to eat Nigiri or Maki sushi, but even more so to sample a myriad of wonderful Japanese tapas on the "all you can eat" dinner. It's been one of my favorites for years. While the food continues to be great, the service has deteriorated immensely over my past several visits. There is no flow to the dinner. You can wait close to half an hour at times and then get bombarded by six items simultaneously. Items that typically arrive quickly don't. On this latest occasion, four of us ordered a dozen ala carte items before even contemplating sushi. The miso soup was the 11th item to arrive--just shy of an hour after we sat. Until Okura solves this I suggest skipping busy weekend nights."

  • "The whole family loved our flavorful meal. Good portion size, presentation and super fresh. We are in the desert for only a week and my kids want to make sure we go back before we leave. Great service and affordability ensure that we will be back."

  • "We love Okura's happy hour, it is probably the best one in the East Valley. Food is fresh and delicious. However, the service is always bad. The hostess literally yells "reservations??" at us as we were walking in the door. The waiter who usually takes care of us routinely forgets our drinks, and the food almost always comes all at once. This past time our food came in advance of our drinks, a requested second round of drinks forgotten all together. I recognize that happy hour isn't where they stick their best people, but we usually rack up a bill of $70-$90 on happy hour food and drinks, so we'd be tipping $15-$20 for great service. It's a shame. From now on I think we will sit at the bar, the female bartender is lovely and efficient."

  • "We had an Open Table reservation at 7:00pm. We were told when we checked in that they were just setting a table for us and it would be 5 or so minutes. Great! Well, we waited over 30 minutes and people that came in after us were seated before which was odd and we wondered if they had forgotten us. Not the case. Finally got a table, but the food wasn't that great and over priced so we truly after going three times will not be back."

  • "The important thing: our 3 orders of sashimi were fresh, generously-proportioned, and well-presented; as was our two orders of wakame and cucumber salads. Nice sake by the glass list. We ate well for a reasonable price, and the fish was very good. On the other hand: this is a strange place. The ambience is more "1970s Peppermill Casino" than sushi bar. It's very popular, and the large waitstaff is disorganized but friendly. Our 4th order of sashimi wasn't delivered, but there was plenty of food and we didn't miss it. We had no trouble taking it off the bill. The lighting is dark and it's a bit noisy. We'd go back."

  • "Food is consistently great service is always bad. Someone needs to teach the staff on how to properly pace out coming food orders. 2 people in our party ordered the "all you can eat" and it all seemed to come out at the same time crowding the table with way too many dishes . At the sametime no one was removing the empty plates or making room. instead they would come over and stair at us almost lAs if we should be removing the empty plates. observed this at several tables each vist. Great food."

  • "Best Japanese food in the desert! We've never had a bad meal here. Weekends are jumping, so if you're looking for a quiet meal, weeknights are better. Sushi is superb."

  • "Another great meal! I usually do the all-you-can-eat for $32.95, which includes a very large selection (albeit smaller portions). This is one of the best sushi, if not THE best, you can find in the desert."
    Dined on 3/17/2014
  • "I would be giving zero stars for service if I could. Made a reservation only to sit and stare at empty tables and spots at the sushi bar. I was told that people were late for their reservations....even though I was there at the time of my reservation. Food was ok. Sashimi offered generous portions but by our 8pm seating they were out of a lot of fish."

  • "We always make a stop at Okura's when we're in the desert for the tennis tourni, and it does not disapoint. Wonderful Happy Hour and don't miss the salmon skewers!"

  • "Exceptional quality fish! The majority of our orders are sashimi! Fresh, melt in your mouth, close your eyes experience! Everyone there is friendly and helpful and wanting to fulfill your every want! I have the opportunity to hit this lovely restaurant in March for the past 5 years... in town for 3 days... and I wine and dine at Okura all 3 evenings! And I look forward to it next year!"

  • "My wife and I have dinned here many times. They have an exotic sushi menu and more. My favorite part is the all you can eat because it is so much more than just rolls and sushi. For example, Kobe beef carpaccio and Serrano himatchi carpaccio are just couple of the many options avaliable in the all you can eat menu. Service for the most part is really good especially once you place your order. With that all being said, my wife and I were a little disappointed for the first time. It seemed as though they added more rice with a little less fish. Quality was not as good as what we have been used to at okura. Could of been an off night for them. All in all still one of my favorites."

  • "We enjoyed a very nice dinner and beautifully presented food at Okura which is consistant with our previous experiences here. We came with another couple visiting from out of town and they enjoyed it very much. The restaurant was packed, with a line almost out the door when we arrived for our reservation. Okura seated us immediately and on time which we greatly appreciated given the crowd waiting to get in. Only compaint is that I asked for real crab on my roll and got the immitation stuff."

  • "Our service with our waitress was excellent food as always delicious One thing that really upset me was that I even called in to make sure I did the reservation correct through online and I specifically said I would be needing a booth for my wife my daughter and I We get there and they sit us in the middle table I then said what's going on I specifically said I wanted a booth not a table in the middle of everyone all the hostess did was nod her shoulders like saying that's all we have!"

  • "I didn't expect the restaurant to be busy as I booked on Open Table and my first choice time-slot was available. I couldn't have been more wrong. The number of walk-ins was amazing. After waiting in line for several minutes, we (2 of us) were seated at one of their counter-height tables. The wait-staff service was very efficient and friendly. We had sushi and sashimi with the edamame and cold spinach with sesame dressing. Everything was fresh and flavorful. Booking in advance was our best decision!"
