Diner Reviews
  • "My husband and I had a fantastic dinner here on Saturday night. I had Strawberry Salmon and he had the Mahi Mahi. Both were excellent. We also shared the lobster mashed potatoes. They were awesome! Service was great and we were able to wait in the lounge until our table was ready. If you want to eat here for dinner on the weekend, make sure you get a reservation in advance because it fills up. Great experience. We'll be back!"

  • "This was the second time we have eaten at "Off the HooK" once for lunch, once for dinner, both times have been outstanding. The fish is always fresh and flavorful. We will definitely be back."

  • "Out service was great. The food was made with quality ingredients. I was surprised that the cost I dinner did not include a side. We heard great things, but we were not wow'ed. The prices are too high for what is delivered."

  • "One of the best meals we have had in Pittsburgh. The service provided by Steve was outstanding. If you have not tried it, DO. Feast on the appetizers to experience the savory flavors available."

  • "Not impress that you pay3600 for a plate of fish and don't get any side dishes! Really, no potato no veggie, is this how they eat their meals at home?"

  • "My wife and I had a recommendation to visit Off the Hook for our anniversary dinner. We do not go out often, due to issues with food allergies, however, the staff assured us that they could easily accommodate our concerns, and we were delighted with the evening, quality of the food and overall experience. I cannot think of a better dining experience, because the only other restaurant we were considering is now closed. Off the Hook is certainly in a class of it's own, and we are now confident that our entire family can be accommodated with the exceptional quality of the food, selection, and service."

  • "We enjoyed a good meal with 2 other couples, one also celebrating their anniversary. Our food & service were good. We will be back in the future."

  • "The lobster in the whipped potatoes was over-done and the miso-style walu was quite salty. Everything else was great."

  • "The dining experience was exceptional. The service provided was excellent. The waiter described each feature perfectly. When our dinner was served the presentation was excellent and the taste was far beyond our expectations. When I made the reservations I stated that this was a special occasion as it was my wife's birthday. One of the first things by the waiter did was to wish her a happy birthday which I thought was their way to acknowledge that this was indeed a special occasion. I would recommend, and have already recommended Off the Hook to friends and relatives."

  • "My husband chose Off the Hook for our 24th anniversary dinner. We had been one other time and knew the food would be delicious. I wanted dessert, so we skipped appetizers and salads and went straight to the entree. I had the crab cakes, which are much more crab than cake. Perfect! I picked the parmesan fries for a side and they were crisp and flavorful. My husband had the stuffed shrimp, and since I was not offered a bite, I would say he was pleased with his choice. His side was the lobster mashed potatoes, which are sinful and definitely worth the calories. I barely had room for the triple chocolate latte for dessert, but it was too good to pass up. A visit from the owner, Lisa, made the night special."

  • "We had a birthday party here recently, and it was fantastic! A very well run restaurant, excelling in service and food preparation. Lovely surroundings and easy to find. The recent addition of an outside eating eating area provided yet another eating experience for a lovely summer day. Highly recommend and will return often!!!"

  • "Our second visit. The owner hovers....and it shows. Preparation and sourcing is paramount. Finest seafood anywhere. Try the Cobia grilled with, of all things, a falafel on the side. Or Halibut lightly crusted ....eats like cake."

  • "Even if you make a trip to the shore you aren't going to find seafood better than this. Everything is flown in fresh daily and prepared to absolute perfection. The owners are very visible and clearly have their finger on the pulse of this fine restaurant. A little pricey, but you are paying for quality."

  • "We again took out-of-town family to enjoy another great dinner. The service was great and all four of us had delicious fish prepared differently and amazing desserts."

  • "Have lived in Cranberry Twp, PA for 5 years now, traveled the USA, Europe and Asia extensively so my rating of Off the Hook will be more critical than the average person. While the service was good it's not to a finer restaurant in NYC, LA or Orlando. The menu was excellent and the food came out properly prepared, hot and on time. The portions of fish were a bit skimpy in size so if you're a big eater you might be disappointed. Try the blackened cauliflower. The pricing is at the the very high end so you'll pay $100 a person (includes 20% tip). It was our anniversary so it was worth the spend but it's more of a 'special occasion' restaurant than an 'every Friday night' hot spot. Good decor to boot."

  • "We have been there several times before and thought the food was excellent. This time we were not impressed. The fish was not up to OTH standards, although our waiter was excellent."

  • "Food excellent though everything is separate which is pricy. Need more healthy sides. Atmosphere very nice and there is outdoor dining. Owner very friendly."

  • "Hands down the best seafood North Pittsburgh has to offer. It is a little on the expensive side, but worth every penny if you consider the excellent food quality. A little disappointed that the bar does not offer any high end RUM brands. Every type of rum I asked for they did not have. Just the basic low shelf rum. It is more of a wine restaurant, so if you are looking for other types of cocktails the selection is limited. Also, the portions of fish were much smaller than what was served on our previous visit several months ago. Maybe it was just one night or a different chef, but if the portions continue to shrink I'll be looking elsewhere."

  • "My favorite new restaurant! Love the menu including the wine list. The owner visited every table and made sure the patrons were well taken care of and enjoyed their experience at the restaurant. It was nice to see an owner that was hands on!"
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "Our food was excellent. However nothing- nothing was hot. Just warm to cool. Myself, scallops - just barely warm, crabmeat on top, cool. Potatoes just warm, same with my husband's food temp. For the price, I expect hot food. Service was excellent."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "The food here is excellent and the service is great. It is a bit noisy, you have to lean in to talk to the folks across your table. The night we went the restaurant was full, so the noise was pretty high-and this was a Wednesday, so it may be a bit worse on a weekend. The only problem is with the prices of the wine - this may be standard prices in many high end restaurants, but it seems excessive here. I know that's where restaurants make a lot of their money, but paying much more for a single glass than you would normally pay for a bottle is too much. I had a glass of wine with dinner and one after - so did my husband - those four glasses added close to $60 to our bill. Bottom line, nice place but too expensive for regular dining."

  • "The meals we ordered were fantastic. The waitress was informed, helpful, and unobtrusive! The hot rolls were fantastic! I will return to the restaurant and I have already told others about the excellent dining experience. Though expensive, it is quality food!!!!"

  • "Excellent food and service. Listen to your server especially when they tell you the sides are enough for the whole table to share! Will definitely recommend to others."

  • "Outstanding selection of fresh fish flown in daily. Most served without sides which are a la carte but outstanding. We had miso prepared striped bass, blue fin tuna, Cajun cauliflower, and shared a Mediterranean salad and a chocolate mousse parfait ;the latter complimentary as we were celebrating our anniversary. We were seated near a well known Pittsburgh steeler so had some celebrity gawking. Excellent wine list. Server was outstanding - recited specials in detail from memory."

  • "Oysters, soft shell crab and tuna were unequivocally the best in Pittsburgh. The negative was the very, very slow service on our entree. The waitress did come over once and said "there is a large party in the back room so we are backed up". 55 minutes AFTER the appetizers were cleared we finally got out meal! Fortunately, the hostess/owner mitigated the situation some by insisting we order dessert on them. Clearly, they need additional kitchen help when they book large, private parties. We will return but only when there are no private parties booked or they correct their kitchen staffing levels. This is the only issue that prevents us from rating this a 5 star. On the other hand, the hostee's action kept us from rating this 3 star."

  • "This is one of my favorite places in the Burgh, and hands-down the BEST place for seafood. It is flown in fresh every day and perfectly prepared every time. The service is excellent. For example, my friend is gluten intolerant, and they brought her gluten free rolls in addition to the delicious rolls they always serve. This time I tried the soft shell crabs done in an almondine style, and they were awesome. Good wine choices, great service, beautiful food! A little pricey, but if you love great seafood I promise you will be hooked as well."

  • "We had been meaning to try this place out for a while because we heard good things. We finally got the chance to go for our anniversary, and it was a very nice experience. Food and service were great. They also gave us a desert on the house because of the occasion. The wine list is extensive and probably the best selection I've seen in the area. We brought our own special occasion wine and the corkage was $10. All in all, a great experience and we are excited to return."

  • "Brought my wife and parents here for dinner... everyone was thrilled with their entrees and food and the quality of service. The coconut rice is something that simply has to be experienced and the lobster whipped potatoes were another standout. We got the grilled asparagus and it was delicious but I think I would go with the steamed next time. HIGHLY recommend this place. It would be absolutely perfect if they had a better view than a parking lot. I think if they put a bit more into decorations internally to make the environment a little more interesting it might be good. I was so happy with the experience that I left a $100 tip on a bill of $280 for four. Not a cheap place but wow was it good!"

  • "The selection of entrees was mouthwatering and overwhelming in a very positive way. My wife and I couldn't decide between the chef specials which included cobia, stripper bass or the blue fin tuna. Overall it was a wonderful dining experience."

  • "Fresh seafood prepared to individual tastes. Staff was friendly and accommodating as the cold air was blowing on us IATA our first table and we asked to be moved. The place was not busy so we were moved to another location without a problem. Meals are a bit pricey but worth going for a special occasion."

  • "Excellent food. Maybe just a little more garnish with blackened mahi. My guests kept raving about the 'layers of flavor" in their mojito salmon and swordfish carbonara. Best calamari I've had in the US (been all over),the ichiban was memorable. All the appetizers were great values. Next time I'm tempted to dine on them alone. I wish the wine list could have had a few less expensive selections. I would have bought more bottles in that case.(I was in wine-liq. business in PA for 30 years, Maybe a special list of SLO cheapies ?) Excellent service, crumb scraping, fresh flat wear between courses, etc. Given the room, the crowd and hard surfaces and walls, they couldn't help noise level."

  • "We enjoyed our night out at the restsurant. Great specials and fish was delicious but nothing was served hot. Rice was cold. Crab cakes just ok. "

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner at Off the Hook for my birthday! The scallops entree was very good as was the lettuce wrap appetizer and the calamari. I was a bit disappointed they were out of champagne for one of their signature cocktails but the white sangria was light, sweet and fruity so I had that instead. I felt the clientele was an older crowd to the extreme. Even for my birthday they gave me a free dessert with a candle but they didn't sing so that was very tasteful :) I would go back for a special occasion or business dinner but not that often for pleasure with the higher price for dinner. Thanks, Nicole "
