Diner Reviews
  • "We needed a place to have dinner after a movie and I found o'Donoghue's. It fit the bill perfectly. Pub fare and cold beers. We arrived 20 minutes early and were immediately seated. No problem. We will return."

  • "The location is great and the basic bar food menu is good. The place is crowded and very loud so don't expect a quiet dinner and relaxation from a hectic day. "

  • "Knew I wouldn't have allot of time prior to a show on Times Sq and an Irish Pub seemed like a good fit. The had my table reserved even though busy on a Saturday, was seated right away. Food was surprisingly excellent. Figured/hoped it would be good but exceeded expectations. Mussels in a wine/bacon/blue cheese sauce was incredible. Loved the flat bread pizza. Bangers and mash better than most and son loved his yellow fin tuna entree. Service to take orders, drinks etc... a little slow and dinner came a bit quick as apps were barely finished but otherwise for a busy place it was a really nice dinner. "

  • "We were surprised at the food. My Italian spinach ravioli was superb and my husband had traditional Irish shepherds pie and it was very good. Waitress attentive and prompt service. Only negative was tables a little too close but ask for a different one."

  • "good food and atmosphere food quality burger before a broadway show"

  • "Food was not good. I ordered a buffalo chicken flat bread and it wasn't remotely "buffalo." It was a basic pizza with fried-beyond-recognition chicken."

  • "Especially for those visiting NYC, what a great location -- only a block off Times Square. Would definitely recommend a reservation if going there for dinner. The service was attentive without being obtrusive and the food, though tasty, was what one would expect from pub fare. Even though I didn't recommend this restaurant as "kid-friendly" we did have our grandchildren (ages 14 & 12) with us and they too enjoyed the overall experience. We were very please with how accommodating the wait-staff was to them."

  • "The food was good, but despite having a kids' menu, the restaurant was not kid friendly. It is definitely more of a pub than a restaurant. Would be a great place to go after work or before a show... as long as you did not have your kids in tow like we did."

  • "Met friends here before a concert. Really nice pub; liked the atmosphere a lot. Bistro seating plus regular tables and of course a bar. Well designed because although it was as noisy as a bar should be, we didn't really have to shout to be heard. Beers were all great tasting. Flatbread appetizers were just average. But my cobb salad with grilled shrimp was delicious. Crisp lettuce, perfectly seasoned shrimp, lots of avocado, egg not overcooked, dressing tasty. My husband had Seafood Fra Diavolo: calamari, shrimp and mussels in a spicy sauce over linguini. Nice presentation. He said it was very good. In other words: nice pub with food that is much better than typical pub food. We'll go back for sure."

  • "We had delicious, traditional Irish food and enjoyed it. The restaurant in a little narrow so there isn't a tremendous amount of seating but they accommodated our table of seven comfortable and our waitress was very attentive."

  • "This was our second time dining here and was actually requested by my group."

  • "I was disappointed because it was too noisy. Food was fair. The Ruben sandwich corn beef was a thick piece of meat, not nicely cut. Rest of food ok. But, not great. Macaroni and cheese fair. Bread pudding good."

  • "Lovely hosts. Enjoyed traditional irish fare. Bangers and mash."

  • "We didn't have much time for dinner, but this was just perfect. We were able to have our drink and enjoy a heart-warming dinner before heading off to the theatre. It was just perfect."

  • "We selected this place for pub food and a selection of beer. Food was decent. My beef stew was nothing special and meat was chewy. Service was also fair. I had to ask three times before my table received any water, while I noticed tables that sat down after my group immediately received all their drinks (INCLUDING water)."

  • "Sad there were not many traditional Irish meals on the menu. The Shepherd's Pie was good."

  • "My wife and I were in NY for the Toy Fair. We visited O'Donoghue's on a cold evening and were first greeted with a warm and cozy atmosphere. We had a great corner table where we could talk and have some degree of privacy even though the room was full. Our meals were fabulous. I had the pork chop with veggies and mashed potatoes which was perfect comfort food on this cold evening. It was our most positive dining experience on this trip because the total package (atmosphere, waitress, food) was perfect."

  • "This was a good, inexpensive restaurant, to enjoy pub like food before attending a theater performance."

  • "The menu had a wide selection, including lots of Irish favorites. The food was generally excellent and the portions were fairly generous. Lots of flat screens to follow numerous sporting events. The waitress was knowledgeable and friendly. The prices were reasonable. A definitely worthwhile stop in the Times Square area."

  • "The food was fairly priced for a prime spot location in Manhattan n the theater district. We had a great seating location for four. It can get loud but it is a pub. The drinks and food were good and enjoyed by all. Only downside was right near the front of thy establishment was a homeless man asking for money when we entered."

  • "Christmas day lunch - good menu and size of portions was great. We did have a table right next to the door which was off putting due to the cold wind and noise of customers paying etc at the cash desk. The main lady at the front door was not friendly at all and seemed rather put out when my mum asked for her freezing cold potatoes to be reheated. She came back with what sounded like a very sarcastic, 'are they warm enough for you now?' comment. However, our main waitress was extremely friendly and made some recommendations that were not on the menu."

  • "We are a family of four who went for Christmas lunch. We had looked for somewhere serving a version of a traditional lunch and the price was good. When we arrived we were pleased to find it was busy and there was a good atmosphere. There were sports on the tv screens and Christmas music playing. We were served drinks immediately and our food came shortly after that. The meal was nice, a little different from what us Brits usually have but enjoyable anyway. Our waitress was very friendly and chatted to us each time she passed our table. It wasn't the day to take a long time over the meal and we were given our bill quite quickly but this was understandable as they had people waiting. We enjoyed our Christmas lunch in New York."

  • "We had reservations that we were slightly early for. The hostess, stared at us with a "deer in the headlights" look, did not speak & went to get the manager. The manager then told us we were early, & instead of offering us to wait at the bar, instructed us to "leave & come back". We came back at her requested time, to be greeted by the same hostess, who again, could not seat us without going to find a manager. A "walk-in" table was seated before us, at a better table... we were seated at a very small table practically in the line of traffic. Twice our drinks were removed from the table before inquiring if we were actually finished with them. Food was "ok". Not one of my favorite spots in NYC."

  • "My open table reservation was made almost a month in advance. We arrived promptly only to be greeted my the manager who started out telling us that she had cancelled all open table reservations because of the Holidays. I assured her that mine was not cancelled and she did find us a table within 15 mnutes. The table was in the louder bar area, but it all worked out well. Food was very good ,server very helpful and attentive and the bar crowd was loud but not over the top. My three teenagers were all entertained by the bar crowd. I would return."

  • "I was meeting a close friend from out of town and decided on O'Donoghue's. Overall, great experience as food was good, selection of beers was exceptional and service was outstanding. I used open table to make reservations for two and when we showed up with 3 people, the service team could not be any more accommodating. We were promptly seated and let's just say the seating was cozy. O'Donogue's is a pub so it is crowded, busy and loud. So not the place for an intimate meeting or rendezvous. Service was food were great. I highly recommend O'Donoghue's ad you cannot go wrong."

  • "Lovely little pub with wonderful Irish fare in the heart of the theatre district. Prices are reasonable, service was top notch and the mac and cheese dish was delectable. Highest recommendation! My husband enjoyed the bar and flat screens with an iPad for two hours while the rest of the family took in a show. Perfect!"

  • "O'Donoghues is our favorite pre-theatre dinner place. The food is always hot and well-prepared. The service is the best. They make sure you are in time for your show. Waitress always chats about the show you are going to and remembers you."

  • "We came here for dinner following a show. We had grandparents and kids along. When you walk in it's a warm, lively Irish pub feel. We sat in the back in a nice booth overlooking the whole bar/restaurant. Restaurant really only includes a handful of tables in the back. The atmosphere was great, football on the TVs, people enjoying the bar, but it was definitely appropriate for family dining. It was a little loud for the grandparents, but overall, it was a good dining experience."

  • "We would recommend this place to people who are deaf so they won't be blown away by the noise level. Otherwise, it was a hopping place and the food was good for the kind of restaurant it is."

  • "We went to dinner at O'Donoghue's before the theatre. The restaurant was cozy, warm, lively and appealing. Very good menu choices from sandwiches to steaks. Happy Hour specials and super Irish Coffee. Would recommend for those wanting a inexpensive venue before the theatre."
