  • "However. . . the service was wonderful I don't remember in detail how it looked before the current remodeling, but it a lovely and inviting restaurant the entry is very pretty smiley staff at the host stand unfortunately we were out for an ordinary Saturday night with friends, and should have consulted the menu before going to Oceanique- it is more money than I remembered the food is presented beautifully everything was fresh and tasty- I enjoyed my food very much- I had the vegetarian entree my husband ordered the beat salad and it was gorgeous and delicious- a meal in itself on a side note, our friends were slightly grumpy, so our waiter brought a special dessert for them we would return... without the friends"

  • "This was our first time at Oceanique and we were delighted with everything about the experience. The service was impeccable and every course of the dinner was delicious and beautifully presented."

  • "We have been dining at Oceanique since it opened ad every meal has been memorable. The basics stay the same but the flavors change in subtle and interesting ways."

  • "We've been enjoying Oceanique for over 15 years. Chef Mark is still playing his "A" game! The food is spot-on. The new decor is a very enjoyable touch. This is truly one of the best all around fine dining restaurants in the Chicago burbs. A definite not-to-miss place."

  • "WE HAD THE DEGUSTACION 7 COURSE MENU, AND IT WAS EXCELLENT."

  • "During Chicago's Restaurant Week, a former colleague and I met for dinner. It was the best dining experience of all of the restaurants in Chicago that participated. So, I returned for dinner one evening so that I could do a proper journal for a blog. The bartender was outstanding with accommodating my requests for a flight of whiskey cocktails. The soup, salad, entree, and dessert were incredible. And the individual l'amuse selections that came interspersed between each course make the whole experience worthy of having returned for a second visit. There will be a third, fourth, and nth visit, the third visit already scheduled for the very near future."

  • "Food, service, and ambiance of top Chicago restaurant in Evanston neighborhood. Staff extremely friendly, yet professional. Unique dishes fit for foodies. Enough variety to satisfy moderate to high budgets. A "must" for an annual special occasion."

  • "Some restaurants are way too exotic for us, but Oceanique served up a perfect balance of extremes: a superb example of taking ordinary, you-can-buy-it-anywhere seafood and preparing it in unique ways that were a culinary adventure, yet also dishes we could easily recognize and appreciate."

  • "We have been here twice. Food, service, ambiance extraordinarily good!!!!! Amuse bouche extra fillip unexpected; owner/chef came out with an added one just for my wife & myself - delicious, unexpected, appreciated. The Wednesday lobster special the best restaurant bargain we have ever had - we will be regulars there from now on!"

  • "Food was really good, though overpriced. Service was indifferent. Unnecessarily, they tried to seat us at a bar table near the bathroom."

  • "Amazing creations from the Oceanique Chef! Wonderful melding of flavors across all the dishes...service was a bit touch and go at the start, but improved throughout evening. Good customer service recovery... The tasty food definitely left a positive impression on the evening. Definitely a place to go back to and explore the Chef's other gastronomic creations."

  • "Been going to Oceanique since the first month that it opened over 20 years. Food has always been special. What was shocking on recent visits is how uneven the service has been. I think that other tables may have been fine, but our server was slow and service was at best at the minimum level. Long wait before she showed up, waited forever for pores of the wine, never offered coffee, so I got some afterwards myself. Large bill, poor service."

  • "We went on a Monday, so there were not many people there at first. We had char and skate, both delicious. We started with oysters which were very fresh, but without much flavor, in spite of the small toppings. The restaurant has been redecorated which is nice, though a little spare-looking. The staff were very helpful and attentive. Desserts were outstanding. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. It's a bit more expensive than some, but understandably so."

  • "Do the tasting menu! Great portion sizes (small enough to enjoy the whole thing but very satisfying). Favorite dishes: lobster/bufalo mozzarella salad and seared scallop in kimchi broth. Overall, we were remarking on how all the seafood was amazingly prepared and high quality but by no means was it the most noteworthy part of any dish - such incredible sauces/preparations. Two very minor things: other reviewers mentioned an amuse bouche but we didn't receive one (maybe because we did the tasting menu?) Also, the lighting in the front side of the restaurant flickered in a way that made us both feel like we were under very subtle strobe lights. Not a glaring problem but if I'd had the wine pairings it might have started to get to me :)"

  • "I think the chef has stepped up the already high level of his game. The food was especially delicious and over the years has always been at a very worthy level. The new decor is lovely, although the noise level is also higher due to (for me) too many hard, reflective surfaces that don't absorb the sound as well as before. That is my only, very small complaint and conversation was not difficult despite that. Service is always great. Free additional mini-courses added to the generosity and joy of the experience."

  • "Very good Groupon find. Loved the food and enjoyed every bite of it. Loved the presentation, the menu and taste of everything we have ordered. The lobster salad, chicken liver and bouillabaisse are outstanding. The Napoleon desert out of the world. The food is definitely standing out in the crowd. The wine prices by the glass are little to expensive . $20.00 per glass of wine is a little to much. There should be more affordable choices of wine by the glass. The service was very good. We will be back."

  • "We had a really nice evening at Oceanique, but not sure I would have been happy if I hadn't had a Groupon. We each had the $80 five course prix fixe--for which we paid $40--a very, very good deal. With the exception of my Barramundi, which was bland, all of the food was delicious. The restaurant has been redone and is very attractive--however, it is brightly lit, and the two top tables are very close together--takes away from the "special occasion" atmosphere. Hard to find a glass of wine under $20. Chef came out and said hello--nice touch. If they have a Groupon, grab it!"

  • "Everything was outstanding, except the wine list was overpriced. Yes, they had excellent wines. But for those of us who enjoy really great food and aren't wine snobs there really wasn't a reasonable option. That will make us think twice about coming back. I find a $20 glass of wine a bit much. It should be half the price."

  • "We came here to celebrate our 37th wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed. The food was excellent and a nice touch was the small samplers we received prior to the main course. One was a shrimp sampler which my wife is allergic to, so the staff prepared a similar salmon sampler. Of course I enjoyed my shrimp. One of the downsides was the noise level which precluded this from being a more romantic moment. When we first visited this restaurant many years ago they had lush velvet curtains which seemed to absorb some of the ambient noise. That would have been nice to have now as ones hearing degrades with age."

  • "I had the Filet Mignon which was cooked to perfection and my husband had the lobster. We loved our seats and the Pinot Gris wine was delicious. Everything tasted wonderful including dessert; we practically licked our plates."

  • "Can't believe this restaurant has been around 20 years and we had never been there. Outstanding, creative food and great service. Worth every penny."

  • "Although the hostess seemed a bit overwhelmed, we were seated on time. Had the special 5 course dinner and it was really good. Bar and entrance was crowded but not bad on seating. The poor valet guys had to work from inside the entry way to restaurant which made it more crowded, this part should be more organized and it would be less cluttered for them and customers."

  • "Oceanique is the perfect special occasion restaurant. Sommoliers are great to come to table and make suggestions on wine if you ask them to. The 5 course was so tasty and nice portions. Lovely evening."

  • "From out of town. Went there based on Yelp, TripAdvisor reviews. Had to eat in bar area, not main dining area. Loud, cold (the draft from the main entry on a cold night was unpleasant), and service was disorganized. Food was good but considerably overpriced for the offering. I would go back but only if I could sit in the main dining area as the ambience of the bar area is congested, at least when I was there. Went to Quince the next night where seafood, service, and ambience were better."

  • "Went for our 2nd time to Oceanique last Friday night for my wifes Birthday and had the 5 Course tasting menu w/wine pairings. Always one of my favorite things to do as it exposes you to new dishes and new wines that you may not be willing to try normally. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. Oceanique is becoming one of our go to places. P.S. A.J. the Sommeiler was terrifice. His passion for wine was unmistakable w/out being over the top or elitist. Thanks for making the wine pairings so much fun!"

  • "The menu can be a bit daunting, so ask the waiter about al la carte. I had the lobster, which was outstanding. Complimentary tastings of special items was delightful. In general, the dining experience was exceptional and delightful for the taste buds."

  • "Oceanique is for Foodies because the nouevelle menu is half classic french and half fusion, top quality ingredients, thee food is delicious and visually stunning. As with most nouvelle restaurants, the portions are not large especially considering that entrees are $35-$40. Part of what you are paying for is the wine list and the pairings menu, which I am sure is fantastic if you are a wine person. Restaurant week was a perfect time to try this restaurant week since the price level does not make it a regular eats kind of place. The interior is tasteful and intimate but does not scream hip or over the top elegance. Still, it is a destination restaurant especially you are a wine person or for special occasions."

  • "I went to Oceanique on a visit from NYC while visiting my daughter. New York prices but not New York quality. Everything served was fine but nothing special. It reminded me of the numerous restaurants in NYC that get a 22 or 23 food rating in Zagats (though Oceanique is pricier) and are utterly forgettable."

  • "Not many restaurants I came across made me feel completely satisfied. Oceanic certainly did. Every dish was just perfect and small tasting portions were served between the dishes I ordered. I will definitely visit this restaurant in the future."

  • "We had another excellent meal at Oceanique this past weekend. The service was first class as ever and the food was beautifully prepared, balanced and completely delicious. The Restaurant has recently remodeled giving the restaurant an edgier feel so we now have an old world classic dining experience in a trendy and upscale atmosphere. I had a superb calimari for my appetizer and a wonderfully prepared Lobster for my main course. The wine list is extensive and the sommelier is very capable."
