  • "Oceanaire needs to step up their efforts if they want to compete with Joe's......"

  • "My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary by dining here. It was my second time coming here and once again, I fell in love. This place is so amazing and the food and ambience is what keeps folks coming back. The lobster mac and cheese is phenomenal and the service is amazing as well...the waiters are very attentive. Wanda Sykes just happened to be dining the same day I was and they sat her across from us. No one at the restaurant made a big fuss over her & she was treated the same as everyone else. At Oceanaire, everyone is important :)"

  • "Food was good, Eric, our waiter, was excellent and made the dinner an occaision"

  • "I am a tough critic of crab cakes, but the ones served at Oceanaire are some of the best I've ever had. This was a pricey, special occasion dinner that was close to the location of all my dining companions. Everyone was pleased with their meals (others ordered scallops with risotto and trout) and the service was excellent. Negatives were the noise level, which made it hard to hold a conversation. Also, don't believe the description on the menu that the chocolate cake with carmel sauce serves two - it would serve a small army."

  • "Superb service and outstanding food. I have been a regular fan for a long time and have never had a bad experience."

  • "Great seafood but v. Pricy. The sourdough bread is amazing."

  • "I would highly recommend Oceanaire Seafood Room - DC, based on their seafood selection, extensive wine list, atmosphere, and convenient downtown location (i.e. they have valet parking, but it's right across the street from Metrorail's Metro Center). We chose to celebrate our fifteen anniversary there, it was our first time in the establishment, but it won't be our last!"

  • "probably best seafood restaurant in the business district"

  • "Wonderful, as usual. Always a treat. The food is outstanding and the valet parking is great."

  • "All around great dining experience! Having excellent and attentive service made for a night of magic from start to finish!"

  • "Pricey but always reliable and BEST Crabcakes in a town full of them!!! A chain and the corporate seams show in other cities but not DC, which feels one of a kind."
    Dined on 6/23/2014
  • "We were a group of 5 who had not seen each other in six years or more, and we so appreciated the ability to have meaningful conversation. The large birthday party next to our table having a great time, and we were still able to visit without strain. The food was excellent, appropriate for all except the most ardent foodies. It is clearly a big operation that is part of an established franchise, but every entrée or starter that came to our table received very positive reviews. The service was great. It was my first visit to Oceanaire, but cannot for a chance to return."

  • "I took a friend there for her retirement and she loved it."

  • "The fish tacos were great, and I was particularly pleased that the waiter agreed to substitute a delicious green salad for fries."

  • "First time to DC. We had great food And wonderful service. Could not ask for anything to have been better. Fabulous crab cakes! Don't let the fact that it is a chain scare you off. It was extremely good. We have even looked up other locations of Oceanaire do we can eat there will visiting other cities. Our waitress "V" was one of the best we have even had. A big thank you to her."

  • "Our meal was great, and so was the service. I'm pretty picky about finding a good place to eat, this place nailed it. Great crab cakes and tuna, sides were also excellent."
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "As it has always been, it is very expensive and full of itself. On top of that, the blackened fish was so peppery that it was inedible and had to be sent back (which to their credit they exchanged without issue). But really?"

  • "This place not only has great seafood but fantastic service as well. Never a disappointment."
    Dined on 6/18/2014
  • "We had dinner at Oceanaire at about 6 pm, early, but there was still a very noisy bar scene, which we could hear even though we were in one of their high backed comfortable boots. I would not call it energetic; I'd call it annoying."
    Dined on 6/18/2014
  • "Excellent food and service...plan to share dessert, they're quite large"
    Dined on 6/16/2014
  • "We have eaten here many time previously, this was by far our worst experience. The entrée we ordered was not what we received and it was a chef special. It had been prepared over. The crab cakes were fantastic as always. The our side of broccoli did not come out with the rest of the meal and had to be requested. We paid $9 for valet parking and my car was simply parked on the street across from the restaurant."

  • "Expect a wait during holidays or special occasions."

  • "Been to Oceanaire several times this is first time service was not at its best. Took more than one hour for our main course to arrive and when it did the food was not hot."

  • "One of the most incredible seafood restaurants we have ever eaten in. Service was outstanding."
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "The wait staff was top notch. The wine list was broad in both variety and price. The food was very good. It was pricier than we felt it should have been. It was good, but just not *that* good. A one time visit within an easy walk from the National Mall made it ok, but I would not make it a regular stop. We sere seated with a half-wall between us and the bar during the World Cup. It was not conducive to comfortable conversation."

  • "My wife and I went here prior to attending the a show at the National Theater. This restaurant is convenient to the Warner also. There is plenty of parking in the area and they also valet for $9. Brian our waiter was top notch. He was knowledgeable, attentive and very timely. I had the seafood mixed grill, my wife had stuffed shrimp. Both meals were very good and ample in portion size. We could not eat dessert. We were full. There was a table of 8 near us that was celebrating a birthday. To say the least they were pretty loud. Had it not been for them I would have rated our experience a 5. The restaurant is a bit on the pricey side but for a special occasion it was worth it."

  • "Excellent service and excellent seafood. The crabcake was fantastic and the entrees were prepared as we had ordered. Service at times so prompt and well-done that one didn't notice them. Service was not attempting to push you out the door and provided us with each of courses on our timing."

  • "We had it all, wine, salad---love the beet salad, entre and dessert! Sean was outstanding and was even able to get the chef to prepare a custom dinner entre for my companion with specific food needs. Can't say enough good things about the entire experience. Will definitely return. Sean was very attentive and though he had many tables to service we never felt neglected."

  • "It was my husband's birthday and I planned a surprise dinner with dear friends and then a play. Our service was wonderful and our server amazing! We all enjoyed our entrees but the best part what the Chilled Shellfish Platter. Expensive but worth every penny!"

  • "My friend and I dined the day the Belmont was running, and California Chrome was going for the Triple Crown. We dined at a table and not at the bar. We had finished our meal, and the race was about to begin on one of the T.V.'s in the bar. I told the waiter we were going to watch the race, and we planned to return to our table. The waiter said he could not do so as they needed the table. Obviously he wanted to turn the table quickly to get more tips. The food was good but overly expensive. I shall use my dining out dollars elsewhere and not return to Oceanaire as there simply are other seafood places in D.C. with food equal to theirs, more reasonably priced. "

  • "We ate at Oceanic as a pre-curtain meal before a show at the National Theater on 6/7/14. I made note of our plans via our OpenTable reservation and it was clear the staff and our server were aware and prepared to time things appropriately. This awareness plus the outstanding service tips our review into 5-star territory, despite what some may consider the high prices. We highly value service, so include it into our valuing the dining experience. Our party sampled just about all the categories on the menu. We had scallops, swordfish, salad, gazpacho, mussels, filet mignon, crab cakes, mashed potatoes, risotto, steamed spinach and a variety of cocktails. Nobody had less than superlatives to express when considering their meals. Recommended"

  • "Incredible seafood, doesn't matter what you order, save up, it's pricey but well worth it. "

  • " We go for good fresh seafood, especially fresh, simply grilled or pan-seared fish. Skip the appetizers--good, but not special, and you won't be able to finish your fish, which is a waste. Great selection of wines. "

  • "Dined here with my wife for her birthday. We find the food to be consistently very good--I loved the crabcakes, we both loved the lobster mac & cheese, and the creamed corn is not to be missed. The wait staff is really better than very good--they're pretty outstanding. Will definitely return in the future."

  • "Layout/seating is pretty bad; very tight space. First booth was almost a complete circle that seated no one comfortably (4 of us). The second both/table combo wasn't much better - the seat depth of the booth part was horrible. Sourdough bread was gummy. The mussels, good; the escargots, fair; the beet salad, good; the clams, not so good (small, overcooked). The Chilean sea bass, good with an excellent vinaigrette; Alaskan cod, not so good, - overcooked; Ahi tuna, good; bone-in rib-eye, not good - asked for med rare, it came rare or raw in some parts. Mashed potatoes were hot (a good thing) as was the asparagus. Chocolate and raspberry sorbets were good. Service was very good; efficient, friendly, and she stopped by periodically to check in."

  • "The restaurant was impressive and the food was delicious. I've heard of the restaurant for years, but finally got to try it. My only concern was the slowness of service. We had theater tickets at the Warner, so we went here because of the close location - and arrived almost an hour and a half before the show started. As the time we needed to leave approached, our waiter seemed to disappear, and when we asked for the bill - it was easily 10 minutes until he came back with it. We were late for the show because of how long it took to bring the bill and then get it paid. I'd recommend the restaurant if you have plenty of time to wait."
